Hi, I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem. My data works when I turn on my phone and will work for a while, but when I start using it, not even 15 minutes, sometimes 5 minutes later, my data will just stop working. The 3g icon is still there and the arrows point up and down, like its still connected, but when I try to go to any website, it goes straight to Web page unavailable. All of my apps can't connect to the internet either. I'm so confused and cannot understand why this is happening
Nevermind, the problem was u2nl. Don't know what it was doing but it would stop responding and would cause it to not connect. I deleted it and I'm now just using an app called Autoproxy and it works fine now.

I've been using my Hermes and now my Kaiser on my T-Mobile Web'n'Walk connection (same SIM). I have the GPRS connection on all the time, and push email working, but randomly (sometimes after a short time, sometimes after a few hours) the connection seems to be dead.
The G indicates that it's still connected, vxUtil pings to www.google.co.uk works, but nothing else works (syncing, web browsing, etc). This is really strange and turning the connection off/on doesn't fix it - I have to actually put it in flight mode and re-enable the phone (which gets irritating quickly).
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Just want to add that IE shows "Locating..." (which I assume is the DNS lookup) and then "Opening..." and just gets stuck there... while ActiveSync just keeps spinning forever and gives up after a while. Ping still works.

It doesn't seem to be related to reception... I could be sitting at my desk with full reception and it would just stop working randomly. If there's low reception I would expect the connection to re-establish itself after I get better reception.
The most weird thing is that PING works but not the actual data transfers.
I've had this problem with my Vodaphone 1615. I work in a rural area and cannot get above 2 bars in my office. I have used Kaiser Tweaks to change the registry so that the connection drops when it isn't being used. This isn't ideal as it takes a few seconds to reconnect every time I want to use the data connection but at least it doesn't hang. Before I was soft-resetting to reset the connection which takes a lot longer.
@doody
I have exactly the same problem with my intenet connection when i use PocketCM Keyboard!
Without PocketCM Keyboard the Intenet Connection works very fine.
Are you use PocketCm Keyboard?

Hmm interesting, but I don't have PocketCM keyboard, and I've never installed it before!
i have the same issue with t-mobile. (uk)
very annoying when using gps tracking software. i think i had it with my last win mob phone so it's not kaiser specific.

I've had it on my Hermes and now my Kaiser. I'm wondering whether it's a T-Mobile specific problem?
certainly seems like it could be our network.
I have the same issue with T-Mobile NL.
After a 1 hour connection the connection stops and must be restarted.
Sometimes I must even do this by stopping and starting the Phone in CommManager.
Not sure if this is related but i have had a few messages pop up saying that i need to end the current call to connect to the internet (something like that).
The strange thing is, no call was in progress. Weird.
I've seen a similar problem, I think. I'm soo new to the this data on the move milarky (I'd probably still be on dial up if I wasn't such a game nut) that I wasn't sure if it was human error, but sometimes the icon would show E with the arrows and neither explorer or google maps mobile would seem to be to connect. A soft reset would resolve the problem.
I'm on O2 btw.
same problem here
I've noticed the same problem when i'm on a bus or a car, listening to streaming radio or using google maps. connection hangs every 20-30 min. but I still can see the "E" with four bars. Sometimes it appears to happen when I receive an e-mail or SMS
It happens also when i'm not moving, but it' less common
Do you think this is a netwok thing? It's very annoying for me to disconnect-reconnect while on the road...
thanks
I upgraded to R3A last week and so far everything's gone smoothly.
The only thing that's bugging me is that the network icon (H) spends most of its time greyed out (see screenshot). I only ever saw it in that state briefly in previous firmware.
It doesn't seem to affect connection or call quality. It's not indicative of a bad signal, as it'll still go back to 2.5G when 3G is lacking. The resulting G will usually be grey as well.
Presumably it means something's less than optimal, but I can't find any info about it anywhere.
Clues anybody?
Are you sure you are able to connect to a data connection, for web browsing etc? Because the last time this happened to me, i was not able to connect, and had to do a hard reset to get it fixed.

Data connection works fine. There appears to be no issue with functionality of anything.
The set of "custom" status icons (colored ones) doesn't contain icon for HSDPA (or something like this, dataconnection available in you location) so it is shown as standard icon (only black&white). I bet if you have only EDGE or GPRS available, there will be the same icon as the others are.
it should mean that data connection is unavailable at the moment (because it can get back in a later time) or something is wrong with your data connection (that is why we have sometimes to reset the phone to make it work back).
Guys,
I have a Xperia for almost one month, and last night it suddenly stopped to be connected with the network. I tried to connect manually, and it worked, but the calls still couldn't be done! One hour later, the same situation started again and my phone can not connect to the network.
I don't know what to do anymore, I have already hard reset the phone, and nothing happened!!
Help me!

I get exactly the same thing, running Jacks latest lite-ROM, based on the R3A. Connection icons are greyed out, but I still have an excellent data connection.
What's more is that after a fairly long call, the phone usually looks like it's in flight mode. However, if I try calling myself from my second phone it works just fine, and I can recieve sms-es. But, I cannot send texts or call out, since the phone thinks it's cell-module is turned off. This always corrects itself after a soft reset, and usually passes by itself after about ten minutes. But the connection icons stay greyed out.
If I try to turn the phone-module back on, nothing happens.
Weird, innit?

My friend and I both have N1's there are times that his radio bars are green and sometimes gray. I have not seen this with mine yet (just got it today). I only have seen gray. What would these color differences indicate?

yeah green = connected to google servers.
grey = disconnected from google servers.
Thanks Guys
Wanted to bump this. I am having this same issue, and my bars go from green to white especially after unlocking from standby. When they are white, I can't connect to anything even though I am connected to wifi at home? This issue is REALLY annoying. Anyone else dealing with this or know of a fix? Sometimes it randomly changes while I am using it. The only way to get it to go back to green is signing into google talk, which sometimes takes 3-4 tries with server connection errors in between. When I am at home I have little to no internet connection via cell, and gprs is all I can connect to, which is why I use the wifi at home. I just don't understand why I can't use the internet if the google server is not connected, and why it drops the google server connection constantly. I should be able to use wifi for browsing apps even if its not connected to google???? Or am I wrong. Please help.
Thanks
(I am running stock, and the phone is not rooted btw..thanks)

try changing your wifi sleep policy to never...
settings--> wifi or whatever--> press menu --> sleep policy --> never
that SHOULD fix it when you're at home... outside i don't know since i dont use data.
cheers!
You're mixing cause and outcome. Your WiFi doesn't work at home, or your phone doesn't want to work with your home WiFi - that's the reason you can't connect to internet, and that's also the reason why you're seeing grey bars.
I have started having this problem this week too. My WiFi is fine. The browser connects and loads pages fine. My connections are now always grey/white instead of green regardless if I'm on WiFi or 3G/2G. All Google services do not work. I am not receiving push emails nor can I force sync in the Gmail app. I've tried to connect by opening up Google Talk but it closes right away. My WiFi sleep policy is already set to never.
My phone is running stock 2.3.4, unrooted.
Ok first of all up until today my phone has been running JPY with no problems.
Now today i can use the stock browser to browse the internet but its very slow, If i use opera mobile like i have for the past few months i cant connect to any pages as it times out saying "connect to server".
Sometimes the market works sometimes it dont and its just took nearly 10 mins to download a 2mb app.
Now i have reflashed JPY using odin and still have the same problem, i have also tried a sim card from my other phone and it does the same with that so can only be the phone, I have hard reset the phone and still nothing.
Any ideas?
Also cant even download email unless i use wifi then everything is fine, Checked apn settings and they are all ok
Is it possible that the problem is caused by your service provider?

99.9% sure its nothing to do with that as my other phone on the same network works fine, as does my sim in my other phone, im certain its something to do with the phone.
I'm having this issue too.
Data only actually "works" about 1/3rd of the time, it connects as "H" (HSDPA) and occasionally drops to "3G", but doesn't consistently work.
I've tried disabling HSDPA and I get the same issues.
I've seen reports of other people with similar data issues on Gingerbread...
I don't want to go back to Froyo, but will if I can't get data working more consistently...
The first few days my WiFi was functioning just fine. Now it seems no matter the network, if I try to connect it just doesn't happen. It will show connecting under the network for a split second, and just appear to stop trying. Anyone else having this problem? It's really bugging me that even my home WiFi will not work on this phone. I've tried forgetting the network, restarting etc. My note 3 is having no problem but it's just getting nowhere on my 5.
Mine does this sporadically but eventually connects if i toggle wifi a couple times. I cannot replicate the issue or narrow it to a specific router - happens at home and at work.
