I have a Samsung Galaxy S original model number GT-I9000HKAOPS. Like many others I jumped the gun and used Kies Registry Patcher 1.6.0.0 to upgrade to Froyo. The firmware version I upgraded to was XEU which I understand is the UK unbranded ROM. Also like many others doing so has changed my Product Code to KOR. With the recent release of the official Optus 2.2 Froyo version I decided to flash this firmware, again using the Kies Registry Patcher. On completion I noticed my product code is still KOR. This has a number of side effects such as Kies continuously prompting that a firmware upgraded is available, plus indicating the wrong market area.
My objective is to restore my Galaxy S back to how it was when it was supplied or how it should be if I had only flashed the official Optus Froyo ROM. I have a rough idea how to do this though I have a few questions:
1. What is the best way to restore my product code? I have seen references to deleting your nv_data.bin as well as entering in a code via your dialler.
2. If rooting your phone to delete nv_data.bin is the best way, this installs an updated kernel as well as other files. If I restore my product code then upgrade to the official Optus Froyo firmware will this replace the updated kernel and remove the other files added through rooting?
3. What other things may have changed upgrading to the XEU ROM that may reside after flashing to the official Optus Froyo ROM?
4. What else may I need to do to achieve my objectives?
Please note I have searched for many hours trying to find solutions and answers to achieve what I want to achive without much luck, any advice would be appreciated.
How to Restore my Galaxy S
Hi - I'm also looking for the same solution but didn't get any. Did u get a chance to get any results ?
I found a solution in regards to the repeated prompt to update firmware through Kies. The fix is, if you have used Kies Registry Patcher 1.6.0.0, to run this again and set enable spoof to false, then click ‘Write Registry’. Next time you run Kies the prompt to upgrade firmware is gone. A residing problem is that if you try to manually do a firmware update through Kies, it comes up with a message stating ‘This device’s version cannot be update’. I imagine this is due to the mismatch between the currently installed firmware, (PDA: I9000DTJP5, PHONE: I9000DTJP3, CSC: I9000OPSJP4) and the current device product code(GT-I9000HKAKOR).
Another interesting question, if anyone has upgraded direct to the official Optus Froyo ROM using Kies without any hacking, have they got the same PDA, PHONE, and CSC details as I have.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787163 go to this page i used the automatic method takes like 2 mins.
Thanks a lot for the post. It was really helpful
Thanks again

I have had great success, all without rooting or any other complicated steps, though it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
The steps I took were to use the Kies Registry patcher ver 1.6 to cross grade my phone to the XSA Froyo ROM which is the Australian Telstra, Virgin and etc ROM. Given I’m on Telstra this is ideal ROM for me. The problem I ran into though is the ROM would ‘fail to convert to upgrade mode’. Kies would then report a failed upgrade and would prompt to attempt recovery. I ignored this message a number of times then decided to run with it. Doing so gave me step by step instructions to put the phone into download mode, from there the installation of the ROM began. Once the ROM was fully installed I formatted the internal SD memory, did a factory restore and all is sweet. Product code is XSA, sales code is XSA as well. This is a better outcome to what I was hoping to achieve.

I have a UK Samsung Galaxy S I9000 phone that was unlocked by the previous owner but still had all the "3" branding which I wanted to remove. I was already on ver 2.2 (updated via Kies) although I don't know the exact revision.
After lots of reading (obviously not enough) I followed a guide to reflash via Odin v1.7 to I9000XWJS3 using separate files for PIT (803), PDA, PHONE and CSC. The guide said to tick Re-partition on which might have been the cause of my problem.
Needless to say after the flash, I got the error message "Can't mount /dev/block/st110" and subsequent reboots just give me a black screen. I still had access to the download mode so I tried another posts solution to fix the black screen starting with a flash to I9000XXJPC with a 512 pit and re-partition again. This time the odin process started but no progress bar materialised. After a very long while I disconnected. Thankfully I can still enter the download mode but this time am hoping someone with more knowledge is willing to help me though the process of recovering my phone if its still possible.
Just looking for any stock UK firmware and then I will let Kies update from now on.
Many Thanks

You still can use xxjpc, with repartition ticked. Many a times, odin will fail for no reasons. Try again, but make sure you close Kies completely.

Thanks g00ndu. You gave me the courage to re-run xxjpc again by confirming I was on the right track and this time it worked. Small donation on its way for helping me recover my phone.
I have one further question though. Can someone confirm if the I9000XXJPC firmware is for the UK? I hope to only use Kies from now on but it now says "the version of the device cannot be updated". I am using the latest version 2.0.0.11014_49.
Thanks again
Edit - Kies lists the current firmware version as PDA:JPC / PHONE:JPC / CSC:JPC (KOR). Something tells me I have the wrong country firmware. If anyone can provide a link to the correct one and the Odin settings I should use it would be greatly appreciated.
Still trying to get a solution to this and have noticed that my product code in Kies registry entry is GT-I9000HKDKOR. I am wondering if this is because I used a wrong CSC file?
Any directions would be very welcome.
Thanks
Go to www.samfirmware.com and grab the Europe/UK firmware. Get a 2.2.1. one. All the CSC, Phone, Modem files should be in the package.
Thanks snapper.fishes. I am now downloading I9000XXJPU (512.Pit) - hopefully this one is correct as some of the downloads for 2.2.1 show (803.Pit). As there are no instructions with this I assume I don't click re-partition. Is this correct?
Thanks for the help
This is almost soul destroying....
I ran the update "I9000XXJPU (512.Pit)" as mentioned above and it flashed successfully. I am now on 2.2.1
Re-plugged in the usb cable and no windows popup to view the sd contents and nothing in "My Computer". Kies recognises something has been plugged in but remains on "connecting" - the phone itself shows the usb graphic and "connected".
I then went into Settings -> About Phone and there is no USB Settings option.
And just to rub it in I typed in *2767*4387264636# as per the wiki guide on here to view the Product code and it's still on Korea GT-I9000HKDKOR.
Edit - Have now tried *#1234# and the phone says:
PDA: I9000XXJPU
PHONE: I9000XXJPU
CSC: I9000OXAJPU
Not even sure if this bit helps
In case this is a help to other novices like me with the wrong product code. I found the following info and you don't need to be rooted to run it:
E.g. Changing CSC to XEU: Note - this will only work if the multiCSC was used when firmware was flashed
Type *#272*IMEI# and select XEU to install. (to check IMEI: *#06#)
Phone will reset to the default setting (perform a backup beforehand if req)
XEU = UK's product code
As for the USB issue (no USB Settings menu option in About Phone), is this just a change in the 2.2.1 menus? I noticed a USB Settings menu in "Wireless and network" and they have changed how this works. Kies still refuses to connect to the phone, but maybe this is just Kies.
Thanks
Jpu firmware is broken with kies. I think from memory that jpy and onwards allows that connection.
Jpu wasn't considered a official firmware but it worked incredibly well.bar the kies problem.

Me Too!!
I'm getting the same error the op did.
What happened? I flashed CM7 and it worked fine. I then decided to do a restore with the backup I had made earlier with CWM, this is when **** went wrong. Couldn't boot up after this or get to recovery. Went into download mode and tried to reflash factory firmware. JL2 Andriod 2.2 for Bell Canada I9000. Says successful but just boots to 3e recovery with " /dev/block/st110, (Invalid argument), E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA: "
Below that it says: " your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions. copy default media content failed.
My biggest fear is the dreaded Int.SD card failure, the op gave me hope but same thing after every reflash.
Any suggestion?
I also have a Bell I9000M that did that. After attempting several combinations what ended up working for me was flashing JPU with 512.pit and repartition enabled, modem, PDA and CSC all selected in odin 1.3. That got me a working device. Then flashed JH2 to get recovery 2e back. Then flashed to the ROM I was originally on (Darky's 9.3). After that I flashed a CWM zip for the JL2 modem to get data back.

Also very important, for JH2 I did PDA only. No pit, no repartition.

Dude you totally saved my bacon. I was dreading the possibility of having to go to Bell. Totally worked, though coolirs media or something keeps force closing but at least the phone is working. Just gonna flash cm7 now since I have to start from scratch anyway.
Thanks again!

Thanks icejagans. Its a relief to know that this is just an incompatibiliy between kies and the JPU firmware. Do you know if there has been an official 2.2.1 firmware available via Kies for UK unbranded I9000s?
Edit - icejagans you're a star, the JPY update fixed the USB oddity I was having and even Kies now connects OK. I will mark this thread as solved.
Thanks for everyones help
Hi,

Hi
I'm helping out a friend, and we are having some troubles being able to update via Kies.
In Kies, the firmware is listed as: (blank field/none)
And we get the message "no update available"
1. USB debugging is disabled (tried enabling)
2. Tried editing Regedit
http://getandroidstuff.com/tutorial-force-kies-update-samsung-galaxy-regedit-guide/
3. Tried flashing pit, PDA, modem and CSC that are corresponding to eachother.
XXJPU from here:
http://www.samsunggalaxysforum.com/...cial)(firmwares)galaxy-s-i9000-download-only/
4. Tried hard reset
Nothing seems to work. Are the any edits in the above shown tutorials which could lead to succes?
It has taking quite a lot of time and searching and googling, and we are close to giving up. We are 2 android well experienced android users, one of use mobile supporter, and we can't get it to work. All of our experience combined, didn't fix the problem.
What to do?
Thanks in advance
Why do you want to upgrade via kies??? Just use Odin to go to whatever firmware you want... what are you running now?

Because the owner don't feel safe using Odin and want's the function to be working.
Running stock 2.2.1 XXJPY now
We tried flashing different ROM's via Odin
Kies updates official firmware that came with the phone .
You have flashed stock firmware Kies cannot update that .
Only update path is now via Odin .
You can try spoof firmware to correct product details .
http://www.appbrain.com/app/spooffw/com.johnan.spooffw
Other question is are you trying to upgrade too a firmware that does not exist
that is 2.2.1 is the very very very latest firmware .
Gingerbread 2.3 has not been released by Samsung yet .
jje
The problem is that the firmware field is left blank...
it doesn't recognize the firmware I guess, but it should be stock 2.2.1 and then it would be able to recognize it, but it doesn't.
Are there any known problems regarding x64 windows?
Will try the spoof, but I think it is the same as altering Regedit
Howcome, Kies can't update that stock firmware we have flashed? the system files should be the same, as of modem, PDA and so on.
Kies spoof method is your only choice .
Stock firmware from samfirmware etc is not the firmware that came with your phone so IDs do not and will not match .
Below an example of legitimate O2 UK firmware ID upgradable by Kies .
Replace that with stock and codes change and fail to match anything on the server .
KIES does not recognize stock firmware .
Stock is not what comes with the phone .

Hi,
I flashed my SGS to CM7 and don't really like it. I have downloaded the firmware ( I9000DXJF4 )from sammobile and flashed it. However, I am unable to upgrade the firmware using Kies to the new firmware available thru Samsung.
My current version is as followed
PDA: I9000DXJF4
PHONE: I9000DXJF4
CSC: I9000OLBJF4
From the look of my phone, everything seem to be back to its original setting, with all the singtel (my telco provider ) apps. Now I am trying to upgrade to Froyo 2.2 (I think) using Kies. Kies prompted that it is unable to update the firmware. I tried the latest version of kies and also version 1.5. Both are unable to do so.
Anyone can kindly advise?
Try changing your CSC code to XEU. I encountered some issues with KIES updates when having CSC code KOR.
Hi,
I tried to change to XUE but this option is not available. I go into CSC by *#272*HHMM#. Is it wrong?
*#272*???????????????# (??????????????? it's your IMEI, it must have 15 digits)
or try https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nfye.insanity.toolbox
Hi,
Thanks for your help. I got my IMEI code. It pop up in a small window. Then I tried to change the CSC using the method u mentioned. But nothing happen. When I press the call button, it say "USSD code running..." then follow by "UNKNOWN APPLICATION"
I also tried to install the software, but it is only for android 2.2 and above. I tried to find the crack version for the premium version but cant find any. Do you have the premium version? Can upload to mediafire and send me the link?
Never try to install via KIES ..
Install via ODIN the Firmware you want it's simply better, even if ODIN is unofficial.
Introductions you will find by googleing I think .. it's easy.
Good luck and have fun
Hi,
Ya, using Odin now. But still prefer Kies over Odin. A lot of stuff become automatic with Kies.
I just flash to DXJG4 hoping to be able to link to kies but it failed.
I read that once the lagfix is fixed, there will be problem with kies. Am I fixing the lagfix in anyway thus leading to this problem?
Did you get solution to your problem? I had the same problem with a Galaxy Wonder... when i tried to upgrade via kies i got this screen..
That I cannot post actually because the forum prevents me from doing it...
BUT...
I tried OTA upgrade with perfect results... And the funny thing is that I NEVER before could start OTA...
BTW everything's fine now and I bumped to 2.3.6 ggbrd

Hey Guys, since there is no A6+ forum on XDA so far, I am putting my question in this forum hopefully I get your support.
I have A6+, I flashed official firmware with the right model number, and the process is successful using ODIN tool and I get the green message "PASS".
but after the reboot, it shows this message:
SECURE FAIL: MODEM
Security Error: this phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked.
Any help is appreciated.
you have solved the problem ?
