Has anyone's Ace randomly shut off? Like, the other day, I woke up and found my phone off (while charging) and now (while charging as well) I was using it, locked it and put it on the table to find the green battery icon it shows when the phone is off and charging.
Does anyone know whats going on? I'm not using any scripts or mods. Just Beats and Ram Manager set on normal balanced. Think its the difference in governors? I have a charging profile of 844 max performance and a normal profile of 806 ondemand.
Doubt it, but who knows.
It's the cpu... Even on my ace when I used setcpu and made some profiles the phone became very unstable instead of working more smoothly than before it became unstable
Ultimately I had to delete it and for cpu I use the cm settings

Kk, took off the performance charging profile. Now the phone is running completely ondemand. I'll see if the problem keeps happening.
I think it is though because I've had this problem before way before I knew about CPU settings. But whatever, doesn't hurt to try xD
This was happening to my wife's S2 as well and what we did was put a piece of paper behind the battery and the case to put pressure on the battery so it would stay in place. Seems to be a quick fix.

I had the similar problem when I got the phone brand new. My phone was restarting now and then. Also due to bad battery readings I thought, my battery was defected. So I got replaced in Service Centre. Took me 2 hours to fight with them and finally I won a replacement battery with an old one.
I'm saying this in your randomly turns off thread, because after replacement of battery, My phone never restarted. So This could be a battery problem too.
Another suspicion can be your CPU. Dude, Overclocking can reduce your CPU life span. Not every hardware gives the same performance as same clock. In another words, you can't say your overclocked CPU will ran flawlessly, because your friend's overclocked CPU ran 10 months without problems. I always say this, If you want to stay out of trouble of hardware problems, DO NOT OVERCLOCK CPU. You might are seeing it as "just" 44Mhz over 800Mhz. But, also you don't know whats your CPUs facing. Can you?
PS: On Performance CPU governor uses the MAX CPU clock all the time, even when its idle.
my phone randomly shuts off if i overclock beyond 825 mhz, irrespective of the rom. maybe thats whats happpening?

Let me tell you my story. My ace also turned randomly off and I didn't know what to do.
I did a research and found out that it can (CAN, not surely) be something with the wifi. Go to settings wifi settings then press menu advanced settings and then put to never.
I did it a while ago and I think it works for now.

Hey guys
I know their probably another thread out there with this in it but... Yeah. But go ahead troll me lol, im still a bit of a noob.:silly:
Anyways, i have a Galaxy Ace s5830. I have Beats with smooth sense ROM. I had it upto 883MHz Yesterday but after i turned it off then back on ROM Toolbox reverted it to 806MHZ. 883MHz seemed a lot faster even though some people get theirs close to 1GHZ
My phone afterwards rebooting had issues such as the phone becoming un-responsive when i was even doing nothing (maybe the overclock to 883MHz had some short term effect?) But the phone seemed fine after safely turning it off then back on several times. Still works perfectly i got scared when it started to become un-responsive. But it works well now i have also used pimp my ROM, and the scripts work like a charm. Especially the call quality one (it uses bravia engine or something?). But with pimp my ROM wi-fi and network tweaks it completely broke wi-fi saying wi-fi connecting... Then saying under the network name 'Error'. Dam it took so long to get the IP address then said error like i said lol
At the frequency 883MHZ the phone seemed stable and faster than ever before, i did change it in small increments
So just wondering, what is the safe and most reliable frequencies to set it at? I currently use 225Min and 806 Max. With the userspace governer.
I know the terms of ' Safe ' and overclock don't mix (sorta like water and my dads S2 :crying: ).
Im also considering buying a 2450MAH battery from ebay for about 5.99 AUD. Any suggestions on should it be okay and better? But i mainly would like to knwo about the overclcoking lol.
So yeah, basically what is a good frequency to set it at? Is 883MHZ okay? Am i going to fry it out or completely brick or damage the phone or cpu if i set it at 883MHZ? Would love to buy a new phone but i need to save im only 14
So yeah please help me and you could help others too. Please be welcomed to troll me
I plan on having this phone another 3-4 Months before i consider buying the S2 or Galaxy note when their cheap (like really cheap)...
Like i said please help, and feel welcomed to troll me when you do help :highfive:

Right now I am just using the stock one. I personally wouldn't change my battery to anything other than stock, but people have reported that 1500mAh or 1600mAh work well. I wouldn't use anything that has a higher capacity than that though. Also, if it's very inexpensive it's probably not real.
Clocking actually goes on the rom. I've seen people having OC over 1gHz & still stable with the mad kernel but I gave up clocking as I didn't see much of a difference & also underclocking started giving me FCs on some heavy apps while it was all fair in the unclocked state. And again, there's no such thing as a best frequency. You find your own values. What works well for him might mess up your phone rebooting all by itself. Stock batteries are always fine & they also keep you under warranty. Anyone ever wondered why the phone manufacturers didn't implement clocking as a part of it ? Stability is the word. I've seen here, I've seen there. East or west, stock is the best ! Try keeping as close to stock as possible, just to have that extra touch of safety & stability

Hello all.
I was reading this thread and became interested in overclocking. In my case my device is:
Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830L (labeled as GT-S5830 by CyanogenMod)
CyanogenMod-7.2.0-cooper stable (Android version 2.3.7)
Kernel 2.6.35.7-perf-CL882825 ([email protected] #21)
I was checking in CM settings -> Performance -> CPU settings that I could adjust min and max clockspeed, but in max frequency the maximum one is the same processor's speed, 800 MHz. So my kernel doesn't support overclocking.
After a search in the forums I found there are plenty of custom kernels for this legacy device. But I'm relatively new to the kernel world, so I wanted to ask you for advise. What custom kernel could I try for my device for overclocking? Or King Android, what custom kernel are you using?
It'd the first time I do the overclocking stuff, I'd like to try it to see if some higher quality mp4 videos (which are run by MX Player only in software acceleration) can run better, as well as some games and emulators.
I'm also kind of a noob as you can see. If you want to troll/scold me...
Thank you all.

Hi you can try FireKernel or BlackHawk kernel. Use the search function to find them easily. Both supports Overclocking and are made for CM7. [MAKE SURE THEY SUPPORT YOUR S5830L]
At the moment I'm with Democracy ROM which is based on unofficial CM7 and I don't really feel the need of overclocking. It is all smooth with firekernel at
Min 245
Max 806
Governor smartassv2
Sent from my... oh wait, who cares?
I did my search.
Maybe I forgot to mention I haven't installed a custom kernel before... Does the kernel come as a file itself, or along a CM7 custom rom? And if it comes as a file itself, how can I install it? I already mentioned what CM7 I have installed. It's the "official" stable one.
Would OCing help to improve videos and games performance? i.e, faster, no lag...
You can set it to whatever your phone can handle. Mine can't go past 844Mhz otherwise apps start force closing and such. If your phone is completely stable at 883Mhz then you're good.
As for the battery, no. It's a fake. Buy a 1500mAh like I did. Works like a charm and it brought 3. Lasts a little longer and it's really amazing. Had it for a while now. Still have one in the pack, only been using 2 when I don't get to charge my phone. Really handy.

OCing helps the phone over all. But remember, without much free ram, OC won't really change much. You need a balance of ram and CPU. Like me, I use swap and OC to 844Mhz. Even if it's a low OC, it's still better than nothing.
1. @SuperAce609: I have 104 Mb free RAM out of 278 Mb total RAM. Mine is Galaxy Ace S5830L with CM 7.2. Would OC work for me? Up to what frequency?
And how can you have 600 Mb of RAM? Is your device really an Ace?
2. There's still a doubt I haven't been able to find out myself: does the kernel come as a file itself, or along a CM7 custom rom? And if it comes as a file itself, how can I install it? I was suggested FireKernel or BlackHawk ones...
Any help?

1.- Every Ace is diferent..some Ace's can go up to 960 Mhz while other just 844 Mhz, the thing is: try it yourself overclocking in small jumps. Swap is a small amount of memory of your SD card, that Android use it like if where RAM, but decreases SD card life...
2.- Some Kernel came Built in on Some particullary ROM's but generally cames on a CWM Flashable zip; FireKernel & BlackHawk are specially for CM7; In my opinion FireKernel is the best... And there are others like Battery Extender Kernel or NimsKernel but these Kernel are only for Stock ROM's...
I hope you find useful my info...
Thank you, Blake2893.
Then there's just 2 doubts left, if you don't mind.
There's a fair number of custom CM7.2 roms with FireKernel in the developer forum. Is there one you or someone else could say is the best in terms of stability and least number of bugs? Or is that something I should test myself in the S5830L?
The Ace S5830/S5830L has 278 Mb total RAM by default. If I understand well, you're implying I could modify SWAP partition in order to increase RAM and, probably if lucky, with this make OC work better. How can I do that? Do I also need a custom kernel/rom for that?
The best stable Roms so far are the stock GingerBread based ones... but if you aks me about CM7 there a few like Apocalypse rom(ICS styled ROM) with the FireKernel that suports swap I think...
and for Swap you only need a Kernel with Swap enabled and a SWAP Partition on your Sd card...
lets see im fine and stable with 979 mhz without reboot for 9 hours
overclock is depend on your hardware
best over clock freq.

Using CPU high frequencies is not recommended, your device's life will be reduced considerably
This guide is for people who don't know much about changing kernel settings, etc. Experienced members should leave now.
All flaming will be ignored.
Please, for anyone who will complain that there's no point in disabling everything that makes your smartphone smart, please leave now.
NOTE: Just because I hit 6 hours screen time on average, doesn't guarantee you will. Everyone's phones are different. And how we use them is different too. This is just a thread containing guidelines to help you get the most battery.
Please note that performance may be affected.
Your ROM shouldn't matter too much. But I personally use AXI0M.
Kernel: This matters a lot. I personally use Air Kernel #10, the O2 version. This yields the best battery for me. If you use a different kernel, please don't complain that this guide doesn't have the desired results.
--------------- --------------- --------------- ---------------
All of these settings are optional but will help a lot.
Sync - off.
Screen brightness - 50% or less.
Wifi - on. 3g uses more battery.
NFC - off.
Use 2g networks only - on.
Auto rotate - off.
--------------- --------------- --------------- ---------------
--------------- --------------- --------------- ---------------
These settings, again are optional, but highly recommended. Please don't complain about this guide if you don't use these settings.
Governor: Wheatley
Minimum frequency: 286Mhz
Maximum Frequency: 1.118Ghz
GPU Maximum frequency: 400
Hotplug control/Maximum online CPUs - 2, minimum online CPUs - 1.
Undervolt: This is up to you. Find what is stable for your device. I don't undervolt at all.
All other settings should be left as default.
--------------- --------------- --------------- ---------------
That's it. Give it 2-3 charging cycles or a few days for the settings to settle. And then you should get optimum battery results with minimum effects on your performance.

Basically you are downgrading the performance of the Phone by under-clocking the CPU.
What would be more beneficial is to find a way where we don't have to sacrifice the performance of the phone for Battery life.
Stock rom and faux stock enhanced kernel gives me the best performance and Battery life.
It also helps to hibernate the rouge apps that are constantly waking the phone during deep sleep by using Greeninfy app.

In any case, here's some general guidelines:
- Undervolting, Underclocking, and disabling cores make the device use less power
- Lowering brightness makes the device use less power
- Turning off wireless signals makes the device use less power
- Using lesser signals (2G Cellular, 2.4GHz WiFi) makes the device use less power
- Having higher signal strength makes the device use less processing power, and thus, use less power
Most of that is just common knowledge though, maybe aside from the lesser signals thing. I don't really see anything in this guide as anything significant. It's basically saying "restrict your device's processing power for more battery", which is pretty much true for... anything.
Edit: As for the kernel, I can't think of any significant difference this would make either. Still uses the same drivers and same Linux kernel base, and most kernels have the same optimizations. Only things I can think of that would make a difference is if it came pre-UV'd or implemented a longer WiFi scan interval.
Edit: Somehow I failed to read the very first sentence (or skimmed over it completely, idk)... I should've just left
I never understood the cripple and downgrade your phone for battery thing but whatever floats your boat I guess.

**** yeah, disable two cores and get better battery life. Using airplane mode helps even more

I can get 4.5 to 5.5 hours of screen on time (browsing, whatsapp, hangouts, some gaming) using auto-brightness, WiFi throughout, and a good signal zone without crippling the phone so such an extent. Getting 6 hours of screen on time is great....but if it isn't doing anything when you're not using it....not sure why you need a smartphone.
Actually, I found the that the phone is still pretty snappy when you turn off two of the cores...I don't think you have to lower all the way to 1.118, maybe 1.3 or 1.25 should be sufficient enough plus some undervolting. Screen brightness more than anything is the biggest factor though IMHO. Hope you guys get some good results.
Brightness alone makes up for almost everyone's battery issues.

Honestly do not see the point in disabling everything that makes a smart phone.. well smart.. but I guess it's a good guide for people that just want their phone to last.
can anyone tell me what they are using to test out how stable the phone is when undervolting? What guide lines are there, what is a good indicator that the amount you under volt still leaves stability?

ok so to do this you have to have a rooted phone and maybe custom rom for certain tips
1) not everyone will want to do this but, for me I mainly use my phone for things like facebook, chrome, texting, instagram social stuff and to be honest the proccesor at 2,2ghz in unnecessary for these apps, I would recommend people like me use the app 'setcpu' and underclock the phone to run at 1.2-1.5Ghz, i don't see any slow down! you can set things to change for example 'if gets below 10% it will allow you to underclock more to save battery' or if 'certain apps open it will fasten'
2) custom rom, use smart 3g, this will turn your phone to 2g when phones screen is off so you still get notification but is'nt draining as much battery
any more tips reply and ill add!
Could you give more details about your personal setup, like what ROM do you use and so on?!?

Agreed. I can get 5+ hours on a Mixture of HSPA+ and WiFi overclocked to 2.5GHz.... too many variables including signal strength and how the phone is used.
I guess the CPU speed shouldn't matter since the nexus 4 is still butter smooth running at that speed.

I suppose really the claim in the OP is that these settings will give you over 6 hours screen on time. You're right that it will help some people, but it also will not help others. Perhaps a better thread title would be to state that these are tips to increase screen on time.

Also, currently running the linaro ROM with the linaro Franco kernel and the moto x dalvik patch extremely debloated.
This thread is pretty helpful to me. If you don't find it helpful, it's not required reading.
I'm considering setting up a Tasker profile to manage CPU speed. However, I'm trying to get an understanding of default behavior before I go changing it. I've been checking CPU range with ROM toolbox and the max seems to be changing. I'm assuming that this is due to throttling.
If that's correct, what is the absolute max set to by default?

Everyone has different usage, so this won't help anyone.

sour grapes... it will help some ppl, not others... which goes for just about every thread at XDA.
I'd much rather see "partially helpful" threads than not. I can pick and choose which apply to me, rather than not seeing them at all.
Instead of using the steps in the OP, I just use DS Battery Saver and Greenify. It's that easy.
My battery life doubled when I knocked down the screen brightness from 2/3 to about 1/3. The screen is still plenty bright at that setting, and the battery is much, much better.
Yes brightness is a big help. I use "display brightness" which puts an invisible slider up the left edge of my phone screen so I can manually adjust to my liking

True, I guess there is a chance that someone will have the same exact usage as the OP. Same signal strength, same apps running, uses WiFi for the same amount of time, etc. I am wrong and ignorant. Thank you.

ok so to do this you have to have a rooted phone and maybe custom rom for certain tips

Just fyi, your phone does not run that speeds at all time. You can also lower the minimum frequency and it will help alot. Lowering mine from 1100 to 600 helped a lot.
Hi..Sorry interrupting. . I'm got an idea over over here..Its my first time here, so I hope ya can reply with some detailed Explanation n Tutorial
I was wondering if there an app or something that can make my screenbrightness changes by my action:victory: for example..
When I press home button from an app,it will make the Screenbrightness flashes to max then slowly reduce to its former setting or When I unlock my smartphone from its lockscreen the Screenbrightness flashes to max then slowly reduce to its previous setting
Can do??
Here my specs :
Xperia M2 (D2303)
Android 4.4.4
Rooted
Running on 18.3.1.C.1.15
Hope someone can help me..??? Craving for this one

Depending on devices id assume it would cause battery issues and blinding people for temporary moments forgetting that the device is going to do so. Like on my s6 edge i keep my brightness low and it gets bright enough for me to see outside in direct sunlight(it has been hard for me to find a device to do so) and most of the time im indoors so if i were to use something like that it would make me a little irritated and uninstall right away.
But if a such thing does exist it would either be a flash from thr camera flash, a sound from the speaker, or a notifacation light on some phones that would blink or dtay constant for a few seconds.
