BOOT LOOP (ics) - I am LOST - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I had CM7.
Downloaded the new ICS 4.2 RC (ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_I9000.zip) and flashed it (wiped everything beforehand).
And I got to boot loop.
Then I read have to flash kernel afterwards, I tried already with 2 kernels: FuguModICS_GT-I9000_update.zip, I9000_ONECOSMIC_RC41_KERNEL.zip
And still in boot loop.
What else is left for me to try? What did I miss?
Thanks

I had the same issue. I pulled battery booted into recovery, do the usual wipes & clears & flashed the ROM again. 2nd time it worked fine although trashed my IMEI number so make sure you have a back up of this to save time.

I did it 3 times already !
And the same result

Which hboot version you on?1.23 or 1.27
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using Tapatalk

How do I check my HBoot version?
Can't find any direction in the internet for galaxy s

Didn't notice its for galaxy, I had probs with my sensation until I fix my hboot.
Can you not boot it into bootloader?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using Tapatalk

I can boot into recovery. I got CWM v5.5.0.2

Did you unplug your SIM Card and Your SD card during the installation ?

Cwm is old, most people use 4ext touch.
Maybe go back to the thread you got the Rom from and ask for guidance.

I unplug SD card, but not sim card
Now tried also without the sim card - same result
;(

Hmm...
Try it. But i don't trust that work.
The most important is to unplug the sim Card.
May be you didn't have enough free space on your internal SD.
Try to format internal SD in CWM in gingerbread.
http://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon2.gif
EDIT : BEFORE have you check the MD5 Sum of your file ?

deleted. Ignore post reread original. Thought you were using RC1 & someone else has suggested you download file again.

How much space is needed on the internal card? I have like 1Gb in there

I think is enough.
So i advice you to install an GB Stock Rom, like JVT or JVU (+Root & CWM) and install the zip file when you are in GB ROM.
Perhaps your problem came of your initial install (CM7)

It was the MD5. Now I downloaded the file again and advanced to the next stage: endless spash screen.
But no boot loop.
Thanks a lot

"endless spash screen" Doesn't understand ^^(i'm french) EDIT: Oh Splash Screen, Okay i understand.
You do all Wipe ?
EDIT: What splash screen is endless ? with the google logo ? or Boot animation ?

i shutdown and wipe and reboot and all works!
it was not google splash screen. it was some animation with many colors - boot animation maybe?
Thanks for all the help guys.

Try this ... i solved this problem after 3 day
Flash RC4.2 don't reboot and flash Davil 14.2 led kernel. Reboot... if dont work reflash rom.

[Q] [Help] ICS black screen on bootup

Hey guys,
My situation is that I'm trying to get a working ICS rom working, but I get a black screen on bootup for both Virtuous Quattro and Ice Cold Sandwich. I've also tried different kernels, but the same thing happens.
What I did:
Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery
Backup
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Install zip from sd card > Choose zip > Picked my zip here > Confirm
The actual rom installs with no errors or anything... then when I try to reboot, I get the white screen with "htc" in green font, as normal, then it just goes to a black screen. The backlight is on, but the screen is black... softkeys are not lit, either. Like I said, I've reflashed multiple times to no avail. I've seen videos of people on YouTube flashing on IncS, but their devices go straight to the bootloader animation after the htc logo screen.
Anybody encountered this before or know how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Your phone must be rooted before this and also verify your downloaded zip file with checksum to make sure about proper download.
I actually encountered the same problem a few days ago. I realized it was because I flashed an incompatible Kernal zip file. So I reflashed the ROM and rebooted without flashing any kernals and it worked for me.
I have rooted, and have superuser access. I have also redownloaded and checked the md5 sums. I'll try to download it again and test...
I just redownloaded and rechecked the md5 sums, and I still get the black screen. I've also tried no kernel, and tiamat and still nothing :S

have u converted you filesystem to ext4?
btw, what rom was previous? stock one or custom?
and i recommend you to use 4ext recovery instead of CWM
I have to use CWM for now, since I don't have access to fastboot right now (i'll download it later), but how do I check if it's ext4 or not in CWM? And if its not, do you know how to make it ext4?
And i'm using CM7, not stock

if u have CM7 ur filesystem already converted )))
i think the reason of crashes on boots is old version of recovery. try to upgrade urs CWM or install the latest 4ext recovery
It's very easy to change CWm to 4ext: go to http://4ext.net/ and download 4EXT Recovery Updater, install it. With its help u will instal 4ext
Are you s-off?

I'm not S-OFF, but my bootloader is unlocked... i think it doesn't really matter much in this case if I have/can flash CM7 without issues
I'll try another version of CWM or try 4ext recovery tomorrow sometime

i'm afraid s-on is the reason of ur problems
I completely agree s-on does matter always.
I have the same problem on Quattro.
If you are s on you have to flash via fastboot the boot.img inside the Rom.zip from your wanted rom after flashing Rom via recovery.
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
Indeed sniper is correct. However what I would do, get a rom working then look into becoming s-off. Its so much easier to mod your phone after.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Okay, thanks guys! I'll try it out later and see how it goes by flashing boot.img using fastboot.
Thanks guys, it works!
For people who come here looking for answers, basically just open the new ICS rom zip, extract boot.img, cd to that folder in cmd, and type:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
and it should now boot properly.

Or just make s-off one time and flash roms without any necessity to flash boot.img manually

I have HBOOT 2.0, sadly I accidentally updated my original htc and it updated HBOOT as well... and I can't be bothered to downgrade now lol
I'll do it later when I have the time to download the downgrade toolkit

HELP!! Playground ICS won't load...0 Files on SD Card

I tried to flash Playground ICS. I managed to get it to work but the screen kept sort of jittering and moving. So I rebooted it but got stuck on the HTC loading screen. Couldn't get into the ROM again in any way not even by reflashing.
Then I was searching around ClockworkMod to try to fix the issue and by mistake wiped everything from the SD Card...So now I have no zips on SD Card and can't flash a new ROM to get the phone to work.
Is there any way I can put stuff on the SD through Recovery or Fastboot.
Please help fast!!
All help is appreciated.
Tried mounting SD from Clockwork...it shows on Computer but can't access it.
Ok guys solved the SD card problem just mounted it on another computer....
But can I get any help as to why I'm stuck at HTC logo when flashing Playground and when I got it to work once it was buggy? I even flashed Tiamat first.
Flash kernels after roms.

It's a problem with the kernel that is part of the rom. Flash a different kernel. Well documented in the Playground thread.
Do you have any recoveries backed up off the SD Card?
Well this isn't my first ROM....factory reset...wiped dalvik cache...flashed ROM...flashed kernel...flashed boot.img...nothing missing I guess..

Hey dude I saw your post on that thread....which kernel did you flash pls?
Was it the tiamat kernel for the ICS rom?
You could flash x-ics-v3-VDD.zip or vivo-tiamat-ics-031412.zip. Both will work with Playground. I'd use the x-ics kernel.
I'd use one of them if the Wifi module driver file wasn't corrupt...can't find any other link...
Download and reinstall Playground and then install the kernel. Download to your computer and transfer to sd card.
Flash a different Rom....

[Q] Install BCM ICS RC4.0 Update 0

Hey guys,
I'm trying to install BCM ICS but constantly stuck on checking partition screen at the beginning of the install. I searched extensively on the forums and found that it's maybe the sd card.
My question: do I need an ext-4 partition on my sd-card to get the rom working?
What I did:
-Installed Blackrose
-Got the partition layout 220-16-200
-Flashed CWM recovery again via fastboot, just in case I lost the recovery
-Rebooted in recovery en wiped everything
-Install BCM 4 ICS
-Stuck on check partition screen
Thanks
BD1122
For BCM you must have 4ext recovery
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the fast responds. I'll try with ext4 recovery .
BD1122
Thanks, got it working now. Only sd card is now damaged and it can't find my wifi network.
BD1122
Edit: Wifi now working after reboot.
Tried a sd card of a housemate of mine and that one is working. So will buy a new one tomorrow.
BTW this rom in incredible fast! Faster than gingerbread in my opinion.
Thanks for help again!

Hold on! If you originally formatted the SD card with CWM and didn't fully reformat with 4ext then try that first. CWM is known to screw up formats. Worth a shot anyhow.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA
I haven't formatted the sd-card with CWM. With CWM I couldn't install the rom. When the damage message appeared, I threw the card in my pc and formatted it.
I tried different format styles but nothing worked. Now the card isn't even recognized by my pc.
But thanks for the suggestion.
thank you,i flash it success

i can't install 4EXT after i setup Blackrose.
My devices was brick? (

[Q] CM 10 Stuck Reboot Issue

Hi,
I would like to begin by thanking all the CM 10 developing team for their fabulous work!
Also, I'm sorry if this is a repost or posting in the wrong area. I searched allover but no one has had this issue on this device. I finally had to make a account as this is my first problem that's why I could not post in the development question.
I recently got the HTC Vivid. I did everything required to install Cyanogenmod mod, i.e. install rom, (I'm S-On) fastboot boot.img, etc...
After I had the phone setup and apps installed, I rebooted the phone. The phone stuck on the Cyanogenmod logo. I knew there was a problem after it did this twice. So, I booted into recovery to reinstall the rom after a full wipe. When selecting "choose zip from internal sd card", it gave "cannot mount internal emmc". I knew I had to start from the beginning as this is a soft brick. So, I relocked the bootloader, reverted to stock, then did everything again.
Again it did the same thing but this time it mounted the internal emmc but it would not boot past the logo.
I tried looking allover, even in other device forums, I did not find anything. PLEASE HELP!
JUST FYI, I AM NOT A DEVELOPER AND ALSO NOT A NOOB! I have rooted all the devices I have owned and I know what I'm doing for the most part. This is the first problem I have ever encountered!
Thanks
mubby93
Sounds like you are using clockworkmod
Uhhh...
Get twrp or the other recovery...
Then flash that...
Boot to recovery
Mount via USB in recovery
Let windows tell you it needs formatting and format it

I will give that a try when I get home.
Is the problem from cwm then?
Isn't it recommended to use cwm with cm?
Sent from my HTC Vivid
No... CWM is not recommended...
Its unofficial and breaks partitions

We seriously need to remove all links to cwm for this phone

I also did RUU back to stock, locked bootloader and did it again.. same result
EDIT:
I did it again and this time it worked! It even rebooted properly. Thanks!
