I am eligible for a discounted update, putting the Bionic at a price point of $150.
I am also poised for a "free every two" offer 7/12
Wait or not?
Sell the DINC2 and upgrade?
Or hold on and wait for the next "greatest" thing?
Ideas?
Thanks in advance
not that the Bionic is a bad phone but
You have an upgrade,
I'd use it on the Razr, Razr MAXX or galaxy nexus. If its the money, the Razr is a better and newer phone for $200 and i believe its bogo right now (or will be if i remember reading right)
I figure I can sell the DINC2 for 100 to 150. I havnt had the chance to put hands on a RAZR yet.

I've owned a Dinc2 then a Bionic then a Galaxy Nexus. If this update fixes the data craptivity then the only reason to buy a Nexus is it's unlocked bootloader and ICS. If you don't care about such things then I would take the Bionic over the Dinc2. Want more detail PM me.
I think for the lower price the bionics is a great deal over the razr or nexus. Its nearly the same phone as the razr and the only reason for a nexus over a bionic is the unlocked bootloader. I say go for the bionic and save some money.
If you're able to get a Rezound, I would get that instead of a Bionic, or anything Motorola. Much better Rom Development community on HTC than Motorola. I'm not a fan of the 3 button setup that the Nexus has (I've had an Android for 3 years and got used to the 4 buttons too much to change)

Update, working a deal that puts a stock bionic on my hands for $75 + the incredible 2. I keep my upgrade and wait for ICS love for the bionic.
How much of a deal breaker is not having the boot loader locked? Noob question...... Why is that important to have unlocked?

Not having a bootloader makes things more difficult. I don't believe its the only reason for the amount of development though. The bionic suffers a lot from Verizon showing it up with the Razr and the nexus not too long after it was released. If the bionic wouldn't have been.delayed so long, I'm sure we would have seen more development than we have.

Lets see what Motorola brings us with ics. I've read rumors that it may come with the option to unlock the bootloader. While I don't necessarily believe that, with Google taking over and them announcing unlocked bootloaders for Europe, its not entirely unbelievable. If it comes to be true, development will really take off.
Motorola really should unlock the bootloader and allow this phone to live up to its name.

Wow there is some serious bloat on this phone!
Updated to. 902 with the new sim. Looking to root and freezing this stuff.

I would trade your Bionic for the Rezound. I had an Inc2 and loved it. Wish I went to Rezound instead of Bionic. If you are into installing roms, the Bionic is not for you. Development is dead here. Motorola killed this phone. Also there is a booby trap waiting for you around every corner with an encrypted bootloader phone if you want to mod it.
If you aren't going to mod/ rom it performs pretty well. I now get data drops every day just about (which I didn't before), but they are only for a couple minutes I guess. Restart connections app from the market helps.

Not wanting your property covered in huge logos doesn't mean you hate a brand. This thread was quite useful to a number of people it seems. Maybe you could find another forum where everyone loves huge logos. Maybe an Ed Hardy or Affliction forum?

Agreed, plus you're not locked out from rolling back to .905 anyway.
I just switched to the ICS leak .2233 and WOW! Soooo much better than .905. I honestly have no desire to go to a custom ROM anymore. The ICS leak is perfect. A OC'able kernel would be nice, but the .2233 comes at 1.2ghz already, good improvement over the old 1.0ghz.

Too Soon
This site just went live today, and they are adding phones to list as they go through them. I think it's way too soon to say we will not have our devices included on this list in the near future
At least Motorola is being crystal clear that unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty, unlike HTC. HTC likes to say it may void it, but may usually means does.

Do any of the OEMs care? I highly doubt it. For every one person who joins a cause about unlocking devices, there's probably 50 'average consumers' who are perfectly happy with what they're got out of the box. To them, the extent of tinkering is figuring out they can change their launcher.

Unlike HTC, modifying the cid will not be possible. Our cid is signed and if you change one byte of it the device will refuse to boot ever again except into fastboot and recovery. Fastboot and recovery cannot flash cid. So you'd be bricked if you tried.
Also I found this one interesting....

Yeah, I bought the 3D because Sprint hyped it like crazy, and then 4 months later it was as if the thing no longer existed. It's a shame, because it really was a good phone, at least the one I had was. Despite the superficiality of the 3D thing, the rest of the hardware was pretty solid.
Felt kinda the same with the shift. I dont even think they had any advertising for it,yet it was the only evo to have a physical keyboard. And what was the other one,oh yea the evo design. Sad i had to google that one lol

Wow, One S owners getting screwed. Considering it was released at the same time as the One X, that's a pretty raw deal. It's too bad, it's the last flagship that's normally sized (at 4.3").
Not to derail but I'm with you on the 3d. I still have mine and refuse to get rid of it because no one wants to pay what it's worth. On cl it goes for about the same as the evo 4g but if you've ever used a 3d it's twice the phone in every aspect. No one gave it the credit it deserved. That goes for the shift as well.... Even with the keyboard it was one of the best evos of it's time. And yes, I still have one of those around here too (Mom likes the keyboard).

Totally agree it was under rated. Too much focus was on the 3d features which were classified as a gimmick. It had crazy power over my og Evo

i'll tell you what,,,,,,i just gave my girlfriend my EVO 3D since i just had to have the HTC ONE...
the EVO 3D was and still is an excellent phone...i abused that thing over and over installing ROMS, bricking and all that comes along with that..
and it still works and looks brand new....i cant say for sure yet (cuz i still am tinkering with my HTC ONE) but that was the best phone i've owned hands down
I just bought an OG evo on ebay lol. I regret selling my evo When I went to early upgrade for my One they mad me trade in my 3d and I was so pissed

why so many people only read,do not reply?
the XDA seemeingly desolated..............
My thinking: the stable of 2.3 gingerbread more the fast of the 4.X androis = 5.0
Enviado do meu Galaxy Nexus
Your talking about 5, while we haven't even been updated to 4.2 yet. Don't count on it. This phone is almost a year old now.

But on Motorola's site they say which phones are not getting updated, for AHD it says theyll email when next update is available...not ruling out anything yet!

yeah ,the phone is old. through its performance is enough. Wish the X will have a good treatment like nexus.
For Atrix HD ,the 4.2 maybe on the way now.I believe.
After all ,moto's phones were similiar. If RAZR can get update ,it will have the chance to update.Only if the limit of hardware.
AHD is made better, bigger, stronger, better screen,(plus takes SD card, and playing games is way better on AHD) and can be found cheaper...[and with otterbox defender it is virtually indestructible for day to day phone use] Maybe a nextel hack would be nice...

It is a good choice, has a low price and a good performance .Especially its hardware, last month ,i take it climb the huashan mountain in China,it fall down from the step, nearly five metres ,but it is not broken ,only my screensaver broken.
maybe the shortcoming was the battery ,if it can use the maxx battery ,i do not find the reason to buy a new one.
Well if the rumor is true then there is a chance that it will run okay.

MOTO and Android need optimize now, for a certainty ,moto's optimize is worse than Sumsung ang HTC, never so much as MIUI ,flyme ,Emotion,cm.

If they don't lock it down like a medieval princess up the tower in a chastity belt then it will be. Motorola Nexus...that's an oxymoron
