Ok, so i attempted to manually retrieve the update released today, can I not do that yet(as in MUST it be pushed to my phone first)? Now i have to effing wait sub-24hrs for it again Admittedly i couldnt wait...this fone is nice minus the few issues it has and that we are all aware of.
Ive never had a chance to see the update experience on an Android fone, therefore as far as im concerned it did what it was supposed to...only it failed. the "No update was installed..." screen appeared after my fone was restarted and unlocked. I didnt take out the SIM, fone is rooted, start up media scaning is (more or less) disabled with an app i use, and i have the free lagfix from the market; the One Click thingy lol. Any Ideas anyone?
mine found update downloaded then tried to install and said cannot install and when i got to resume updates it says "no firmware" i think i just need to flash to stock before trying update
mine keeps saying that it cannot connect to the att servers.
Aw id rather not...took alota time for me to find apps an methods to make this fone more usable smh

My phone is rooted and I have the same problem as ericos123. I think going back to stock would fix this problem. Sucks I have to redo everything.
What's the easiest way to go to stock? Anyone know?
will i lose all my media if i go back to stock?
Mine downloaded the file. I performed a backup prior to the update and started it. It came back and said "update failed" and when I attempted to resume it, it said no firmware. I checked the baseband and it said JH7 which is the version being pushed.
So I assume it actually passed but it failed on something minor as the phone operates just fine.
So far, that also seems to be the consensus that rooted/modified users will get errors. I modified my framework apk to put a better batter icon, and it is still there. Maybe it couldn't overwrite it...
Check your baseband and see if its already updated. (and if you couldn't get your update, use the date-forward trick (change the date forward 24hrs)).
Ok, I've tried the update 4 times and I can't get it to take. I've used Odin to go back to stock JF6 (checked re-partition). I also did the master clear thing! I compared my phone to a co-worker who has a completely stock Captivate and they appear to be identical!
The patch downloads fine, however when it restarts and begins to apply the patch, it gets to 50% and then says "Updates fail". It boots back up and says that the update was not successful!
Any ideas??
Check your "About Phone" screen. Mine failed as well, but when I checked mine this is what was different:
Baseband version: I897UCJH7
Kernel version: 2.6.29 | [email protected]sep-11 #2
I was stock + root prior to trying the update. Here is hoping this is a fix for the GPS, I will try and report back.
I don't think you do, but I'm not sure. That said, idont know how to bak to stock myself...guess it time for more XDA searching lol

my failed at 100%, rooted and got rid of the att apps. maybe the update updates some att apps?

I have two stock non-rooted phones and they both performed the update successfully.
Mine's rooted, and a few stock ATT apps removed. Update successful, took about 10mins total.
Yet to check for any changes/improvements.

I'm in the same boat, can anyone verify this if this means the update was done successfully?
So what's the status on those of you who have already applied the leaked JH7 through Cognition or another way? Are you all going back to stock to then get this new update? Is it possible to apply the GPS fixes to my current rom/kernal or should I do Odin and then apply it? It's not that big of a deal to do everything individually (voodoo, black bar, superuser) if I have to without Cognition. I really want the GPS fixed.
I manually moved the date up two days (Sept 24th) on my phone and checked for update. It finally started to download the OTA update. It failed after 50% installation and rebooted by itself. My phone was rooted with lag fix and removed some AT&T software. I'm wondering the reason it failed because it is trying to install QuickOffice and update other AT&T software. But I already moved some of the AT&T software and already installed QuickOffice through Android Market.

Mine stopped at 50% too... ugh. Let me know if you find a workaround, and I'll do the same...

Same boat as me. I am rooted.. and removed att crapware and did a battery icon change. But no other major changes.
(From my Captivate via XDA app)
Failed first time unrooted. I used Odin to go back to stock, failed again same place,50%
Got the firmware today.. when it loaded it ran the entire progress bar and later said that it failed.. however in the settings it say jh7 and additional attempts to update says no updates available. Also.. after the update the superuser app is still installed and appears that root is still there. Any thoughts?

You have to unroot before you can do a ota upgrade. Rooting is suppose to block ota upgrades because a ota upgrade would remove superuser.
I read somewhere that people have had to flash back to complete original. I've rooted and removed AT&T crapware. Also, being new to the Android platform I need some guidance on how to go back to factory orig. I've heard of odin.. but base on my limited research I haven't seen if it is available to mac. I am familiar with Unix/Linux.. they are my primary OS'.. but messing with a phone OS is just a different animal altogether.
I had to redo the phone but the update never showed up.. So what I did was just flash the update from samfirmware and it is working even though I have to redo everything...

My phone is rooted and I updated without issue.
Well i just tred to update mine this morning, i finally got past the communication errors. The download went fine, but when it was installing it went from 0 to 50% percent in about a second and then said update failed and rebooted.
I'm on the stock JF6 rom, however i used odin to get there.
My Sim card and sd were left in, however my sd is blank
And i don't know what any other info i can post to be helpful
2.1 update
just did the update with one click root loaded.went though with no problems phone is faster with less lag.also i can still use as wi fi hot spot. new Quikoffice,Media hub,Mobile Video and you tube. well this may mean no 2.2?
I also did the ota update with root installed, allowed 3rd apps, with wireless tethering, and it went through fine for me but I still have poor gps, did not seem to do anything for the gps except removed the option to enter lbs test mode. Anyone know how to get to the lbs test mode after update?
Samsung Mini-Kies Updater
If anyone is having troubles with Mini Kies (I had the problem where the application crashed, using Win 7 x64), I'd recommend using the regular Samsung Kies application. I was unable to do the JH7 update even after restoring to complete stock with Odin (50% update failed error). This was easy, and now I am fully in JH7, and so far the GPS lock is much, much faster.
My Galaxy S3 GT-I9305 LTE was running Liquid Smooth 2.37. I bought the phone second hand, it arrived loaded with a stock ROM for Australia's Optus network.
I promptly rooted and flashed the phone to Liquid Smooth and the phone ran fine for months on the 2 Degrees Network in New Zealand.
Recently, (not sure how) I lost notification and phone ring sounds, I first tried restoring my cwm backup on an external sd card - it failed.
Then, after numerous reinstalls, trying various LS and other roms, I lost baseband and have no cell signal - but after flashing to a stock 4.3 rom I have sound back.
In the phone's 'about' section the baseband field is empty.
I've read tons of help posts but nothing works, maybe I need a more methodical approach, but every entry point seems to have a roadblock.
Here's a few of the things I've tried with results in brackets,
Firstly, I thought I'd re-flash back to the phone's original stock ROM using Kies, but the weird thing is Kies doesn't restore, it upgrades to the latest 4.3 ROM, which fails to restore baseband.
I wanted to send the phone back to the 4.1.2 it came with or was it an earlier ROM? I can't remember as I didn't note it down.
Anyway, I must have tried reflashing a dozen stock roms I've found online using Odin. Some of them partially work, I get sound back, (it seems only the 4.3 ones work, with the german I9305XXUEMKC I9305VD2EMK2 reliably loading - it even gives me a NZ english install option) but none restore the baseband.
And all the ones I've found for Optus, which should work, including earlier Android stocks, are rejected. I get the 'unsupported device' or status 7 error in Odin.
I've tried 'fixing permissions' in cwm then reinstalling but I get the same 'status 7' error.
So I decided to install I9305XXUEMKC, install cwm, root the phone and try installing different baseband kernals and/or custom roms to fix the (probably corrupt) efs.
But I'm going round in circles trying to root the phone. Using CWM, supersu shows as successfully installed, but when I boot into the OS, root checker shows my phone is not rooted. Knox seems to obstruct every attempt I make to disable it as well. I keep getting these 'knox stopped etc...from working messages'.
I'm at my wits end. I can't revert back to an older rom, I can't root and modify any existing 4.3 roms.
I want to try everything before I have to ship the phone off to a repairer who may charge me hundreds of dollars to fix the phone.
I have a (previously) rooted D950, and I can't get the OTA At&t update to install. I've completely removed root, and double checked through root checker that it's gone, and the update errors out every time with a message about having been rooted.
I read another thread where some people report being able to retain root after receiving the update THEN downgrading and rooting 4.2.2., then installing the OTA again, but it seems that I jumped the gun and rooted first, which is now causing the install to error out.
Has anyone else experienced this? Found a workaround? Ideas? Totally frustrating.

Here is the link to a detailed guide . Dev hyelton's page includes links to AT&T ROMs.
If you need help with LG Flash Tool:
- Connect your phone with usb to laptop/computer and open device manager
- seek for Ports: COM & LPT, right click onto Android LTE usb port connection, click "properties", click "Advanced", then change port number to number 41, click "OK"
- DOWNLOAD LG Flash Tool and install .exe
- DOWNLOAD MegaLock.zip (3kb), unzipped (7kb)
- Exchange MegaLock.dll in your system folder "LG" with the unzipped MegaLock.dll file that you have downloaded
- Open LG Flash Tool, input .dll file of downloaded stock rom.zip folder and input .tot file of this folder
- Click onto USB instead of LAN, then click "OK"
- Left arrow at the window top should be enlightened now
- Click onto this arrow
- Wait for all popup windows telling milky way download and connections to fail
- Wait then for the check of CRC and .dll files
- One or all ports should be opened, "READY" enlightened
- Disconnect your phone from computer
- Connect again and watch the immediate start of the flashing process
- After completion you must install most of the app updates, update your LG and/or AT&T profile before installing kitkat update.zip
If you'll stick in updating stock rom to kitkat, watch my video on YouTube (it's about LS995 Sprint, but AT&T LG Flex will proof the same installation process):
Visit my blog at http://www.myreviewsofreviews.for the detailed description how to avoid bootloop during the installation of LG Kitkat update.zip via ADB sideload
Thanks, but this is not a fix. Unfortunately, that guide is of no use since his links are still down. Further, I was hoping for feedback from others who have experienced this issue, and found a resolution. I have read that this is also happening on devices that have not been rooted.
I am not looking to flash a rom through FlashTool. I'm looking to fix the OTA error. All I want to do is install the OTA update.

Not sure what you were hoping for but the guide is correct process for your problem. You need to flash back to 4.2, don't touch anything in the way of modifying system files or deleting bloatware, sign into your main Google account, update all your apps...then root the phone and when it reboots look for the ota. I would give it a couple min to setup after flashing back to 4.2 so that it successfully finds the update rather than telling you you're on the most current software. I had your exact problem too, I was one of the first AT&T users on here to take the update I tried everything to
A: retain root with supersu features and some root cloaker programs etcetera
B: factory reset, call AT&T, to get them to push the update again because I just could not get it to successfully flash without detecting suspicion of root.
Flashing back to 4.2 to retain root worked for me over 4 times now on 3 different flex phones (I had some hardware and then software issues on my replacement model)

You say flash back to 4.2, but I am already on 4.2. Never left 4.2. That's the issue. The device is defective. They're sending me a new one.

You didn't understand my post at all it seems, I gave you the instructions to flash back to STOCK which would have fixed your problem. I did accidentally word my post incorrectly saying "flash BACK to 4.2" obviously I knew you were on 4.2, so clearly I meant use the aforementioned guide to flash back to stock then take the update. Looks like you went another route, congrats

Huh? Wut
Not sure where things went wrong here.....
Me thinks some thread cleaning is in order...
Stand-by....
Cleaning finished.
Come on folks, let's relax and take a breath. Sometimes things just don't work and there's little to be done about it. If common known procedures don't work, then hopefully something else will, and just move along to something else.
Or in this case, the device is being returned which of course solves all.
No need for anybody to get all bent out of shape, what started out as being helpful, just took a bad turn somewhere for unknown reasons.
Relax, be cool....

KitKat update on ATT G FLEX running on Tmobile.
This might be a stupid question . I have my ATT G FLEX D950 running on Tmobile. It is on Jellybean . I am unable to pull the Kitkat update and it says "Phone is not registered on network". I am assuming I need to get my phone on ATT network to pull the update. Am I right? is there any other way out ?

Kinda, yes.
I had the same problem. My phone was never activated on the ATT network so it would not recognize it. You have 2 options:
Get a prepaid sim from ATT, use it once and than put your Tmobile sim back in there or ask a friend that has ATT to use the sim for a few minutes. A text or a phone call is all you need.
Worked great for me.
I have a stock rooted T-Mobile Note 4 with TWERP recovery installed and when I attempt to set up the Gear VR I get a notice I need to do a system update. I then get a notice saying the device has been modified in an unauthorized and to try updating via kies.
Anyone know of a solution to this? I'm DYING to try the headset and am at a loss at the moment. Your help is GREATLY appreciated!

I was exactly in the same shoes. All I had to do was download Kies 3 and boom. Installed latest firmware. Good luck, it'll blow you away straight from the Intro video. I've never experienced anything like this before in my life lol.
.
Kies wouldn't work for me, had to flash the update via odin. Here's the link to the update thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2902574
Had to re-root and reinstall TWERP after, easy enough though.
So far I'm loving the VR. Pretty amazing stuff!
