I have been using custom roms since the 1st week I got my note. It seems the custom roms have become better by day but I always find something that bothers me. the speed is great in rocket roms and also sem to be very stable but there is always something that doesn't work the way it should.
example: I am on rocket rom V22 with abyss 3.8. its fast and stable but now I see that when I get a call, the phone screen stays black or wakes up after 2 rings. Today my alarm woke me up but the screen on the note was black, hence, not giving me option to turn off the alarm. the phone freezes on grove ip app and on browser and even when I end a call. so Now I am all bummed.
All I want is a stock rom which is reasonably fast and stable. I would like to root it and take off the bloat. can someone recommend me a good/stable stock rom that can be rooted easily.
thanks in advance.
I think u should try LA6 of Russian Rom.. Using this since yesterday after i felt Indian Rom is bit lagging in sonera area. Also LA6 has good keypad with numbers as additional row and many UI changes. Hope this is the latest Rom as of now..

is it faster and more stable than LA4? how do I go about rooting it to take off bloatware? I am on rocketrom v22 with abyss 3.8.

LA4 ist ABSOLUTELY stable (and fast too!) - so what do you mean with more stable?
I use this last official stockrom with the Abyss Kernel v3.8 and I am very, very happy with it... the combination between SIO scheduler and the Abyssplug governor rocks my note really hard & heavy. To be honest: No need to use a "buggy" Custom Rom anymore.
Please keep in mind: Using custom made ROMs & Kernels may always occur in "funny" behaviour of your device
For rooting your note try this perfect How-to from Dr. Ketan:

Have fun

I'm using the stock LA6 rom, deodexed, zipaligned and pre rooted. Works perfectly with AbyssNote 3.8 and abyssplug governor. Getting a full day of battery with heavy use. Try it out.
I'm heading toward stock LA6 myself. I tried all of the custom rom and I think there no such thing as perfect rom. It all personal preference.

Are you using the tweaked or untweaked version? I am also looking at this rom but I am afraid the tweaked version has jkay mod and other features on it to make it almost look like a custom rom.

try all roms by yourself ^^ and there were tons of post like this "what rom to choose"... for me rocket romv20+jkay+abbys kernel 3.6 is the best.

If you're a performance freak like me, it's definitely "Rocket ROM"
Hi there, i tested all the roms avalible.
If u want to do a full wipe without boot loops and very good battery and smooth operating try Darky note 3.1 or King Droid 4.0 i like those 2 very much.
They are all the same TOMAAATO OR TOMAEETO. they are based on stock so similarities outweigh the differences.

My opinion is that the best ROM is the ROCKET ROM
I flashed the RocketRom from Version 1 to Version 20.
Last night I saw that there is a new version 21.
I'll flash it later, when I'm home.
It's best ROM because it's very fast and the battery is going slowly down
I also flashed 3.6 AbyssNoteKernel and now it runs as hell
RocketROM v20 + AbyssNoteKernel = <3
I tried many rom too but alway come back to rooted stock Rom. Stock rom is very balance with the right color scheme and it just work. Im really a speed type of guy.

Guys what it the best kernel for checkrom V6?
I mean.. i want advices BUT why did you made such a choice?
For me it is Franco hands down. Tested v2, v6 and the latest 'test' one (this will become v10 tomorrow or the day after, judging by the users' comments), and all proved to be smooth, fast, stable and easy on the battery on my Note.
I would second Franco kernel also. Been using it since v6 had no problems with lag at all. Battery life with this combination seems good as well.
Now this is a good start
I have been in CF ROOT for XXLC1 but i dunno why i feel the stock kernel is a little bit lagged in menus!
Will try Franco Kernel
Thanks for your replys!

Franco 9.....pure awesomeness !! Best battery backup m getting by using it. Earlier tried Abyss 4.2 but got a high battery drain !
Go for Franco !!!
but doesn't changing the kernel change some supported features in the rom ? like ntfs support for instance ?

Check the changelogs of the kernel you are about to use it will give you all the salient features and changes that it has and can happen!
Cheers!

Yeah of course! I have it installed on my phone. just go to the inbuilt kitchen (update it to the latest version from google play store) and download the file given there under the themes section. Its version1.1 as of now. And install it in recovery !!
Cheers! Hit thanks if it helped!
I was using stock CF-Root and it was fine, but the battery drain was a bit higher vs V5 CheckROM. Installed Franco and its running great, 1.5% Per Hour idle.
was using checkrom v6 with Franco's test kernel. Seems like its draining battery more than stock. Gonna verify it over the nxt few days by using stock
Also on Franco test kernel.
Also on franco kernel v9, works like a charm. Good battery life but no as good as CheckROM v5 & franco v6
For me Franco kernel cause constant sods.
I keep trying a newer versions and still same issue. This problem doesn't occur for me on other kernels

Yeah for some of the users Franco gives sods or screen salad issue - pixelated screen while other kernels work fine for them! Thankfully works fine for me

My father has a Galaxy Note. I wanted to install the best ROM (Prefer Light/Lite size) with best Kernel which would give a Good battery life. Any advice ???
I've installed Chrack's Lite LC1 ROM (from here) Which has Franco kernel 9. But, having a few problems. Can't change Voltages for CPU (Using Voltage Control & SetCPU), The options are missing or Disabled. Having FCs while calling someone using phone dialer ("com.android.phone" FC), Network goes down & comes back later. Any way to fix these ???
Thanks...

Nobody can say the best rom because everything is best and it completely depends on the user what they like. For example I like darky rom very much and others may dislike it.
Maybe the OC/UV feature is not included in the kernel and there is no need for it because already the note is super snappy. The phone problem maybe due to improper flashing.Try factory reset or flash the rom again. If the problem persist report it on the rom's thread and the dev might try to solve it.

Darky roms are always super snappy and are known for better battery life.My sgs, sgsII and note all runs on darky rom only.If you want a basic install without any themes and only major tweaks go for base roms and if you need pre-themed and fully tweaked go for full rom.I'm sure you will enjoy the rom
OK So this is the burning question i have to ask next. ??
!!!! N-7000 SERIES ONLY !!!!!
BEST ROM with FULL Galaxy Note Spen Functionality and all the Touchwiz apps.
with WHAT KERNEL ?
and how long have you been running the rom? with how often does the rom Crash (making the phone do a soft reboot)
I am very curious to see what people are running on there Gnote since now that the Gnote now is becoming so popular. i am personally running Checkrom NOTEHDv5 with normal CF kernel and it is stable but sometimes it crashes and there alot of bugs. and i am in the market to changing roms but this is my DAILY use PHone so i am curious what my proud Gnote friends are running on there devices.
i used many of the roms out there and i end up using the new midnote 2.2
i think its the best ics rom so far , with every thing working on it . the good thing about it is down clocked to 1.2 ghz , which is good for the battery .
My choice:
Rocket ROM v23 with Franco Kernel (latest test-version).
Fast, stable, super battery-life. Couldn't be happier with a gingerbread-combination.
Lol i don't know what one i want to switch to :-\

I try many roms and i find this:-
- if you like ICS but without full galaxy note functionality go as AOSP latest vesion
- if you like ICS with full galaxy note functionality go as midnote 2
- if you like gingerbread with battery life go as checkrom
that is my personal opinion
but i want to know, why all people go to rocketrom not checkrom ?
Yes!! What Elk said.. RR V23 with Franco #9
I personally like checkrom but i am using hardcore's kernel and its amazing

CheckROM HD. I tried 4 or 5 ROMs including TeamRocket but this is by far the best. 3-4 days of battery life with light usage, NO crashes, kitchenpro app (google it!).. pretty amazing for me!

Good day everyone. I just want to ask you guys, especially those who are using stock roms, which do you prefer, stock ics or stock gb? I'm coming from PA by Utacka and I pretty much used custom roms from the start so i never actually used stock.
Please provide a reason as to why. I just want to have a stable rom while waiting for the official jelly bean update.
Thank you everyone.

there is no as such reasons to be on a particular ROM.. its each and everyones taste that keep them stuck to a particular rom,
as far as stock is concerned stock ICS rooted with a hydracore kernel works best for me
I would compare GB to windows XP. Sure it was good back in the day, but it's had it's run now and time to stay current. ICS has been released for a good while now and should have had all the bugs ironed out. Little things like the improved task switching (previews over icons), and swipe to dismiss notifications, while small differences make for a better experience over all.
A better kernal like hydracore to improve battery life and a stock ICS (or maybe back to rocketrom) would be what i would go back to if i was so inclined (i'm on utacka's PA at the moment too)

Thank you for the answer. My only intention is to have a pretty reliable phone so I can use my phone when it really counts. I hate that when I have to do something really important, I will encounter freezes or out of memory error that prevents me to actually multitask.
I haven't tried rocketrom but I am willing to try that. My only fear is if it will lag after few days of use. My boss' phone which is sgs2 would go for days or months without a reboot and he is on stock gb. He doesn't know anything about smartphones in general so he thinks he is using a regular phone, and he is pretty happy about the phone's performance. I just want the same experience.
Thank you.

ICS 4.0.4 without hesitation especially with interducing of safe kernel
Flash stock ICS 4.0.4 via PC Odin (the new one like xxlrt or ddlr9) then flash safe stock kernel like PhilZ kernel for your new rom from (also via odin or cwm): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
And thats it!! Full stock, very smooth (compared with older 4.0.4), and most important it is perfectly stable, and everything works.
I only aded a call recording mode beacause I realy need it.
Hope that help!

Okay I'll look into that. Someone suggested about Rocketrom, do you think that Rocketrom could perhaps be more stable and faster than fully stock ( except kernel maybe) xxlrt or ddlr9, and do everything work on that? Files are too large for touchwiz roms so i want to know more about different types of rom before doing some flashing. I won't have so much time this coming months so I really want a reliable phone. Thanks a lot.

I dont want complaining on certain rom, but if you ask i will say my opinion on rocketrom. It is a good and stable rom, i have used it with hydracore kernel and dont find any problems with in about 2-3 weeks of use. But it is based on xxlrq which i found a bit laggy for me (the same story is for completly stock xxlrq). I dont know which is a difernce in xxlrq compared to xxlrt (some says the diference is only in kernel but i dont know).
So i was tired of flashing and stuff and decided to go on completly stock, picked up a latest xxlrt and whoaa, great. The reason why i am on lrt because my note is from german, i think that same story is for indian lr6 and lr9.
Then the story begins:
-Flashed stock GB xxlc1 via pc odin
-full wipe
-flash stock ics 4.0.4. xxlrt via pc odin
-root (dr.ketans guide) - only because of callrecord mod
-first flashed hydracore 4.3std kernel (also great kernel) and then philZ realesed his stock, emmc bug free kernel, so i flashed it.
Now used only a PhilZ kernel because it is completly stock with removed emmc brick bug. And for stock xxlrt rom it is perfect combination for me (just choose right kernel for your rom)
-Added only call recording mode
-settings > application > unninstalling aplications which i dont use ; > ALL > disabling (readers, music, social hub, etc...)
-And thats it!
Perfectly stable, smooth with great battery life, without any problem, FC or else. Without reboot for about 3 days (reason flashed Philz kernel 23.09)
Finally happy with my note :victory:
Hope that helped
