That is actually a very common issue, and bad USB port is also common.

unable to connect USB

So I've searched through threads and can't seem to find any solutions. I'm running Axura 2.1CE w/ JK3 kernel. I've used multiple cables, on different computers and none of the computers are able to even detect the device. Any thoughts?

I had this happen to me a couple of times. One time i just needed to restart my phone, and at least once it was a bad flash and I just had to reflash over and master clear. never had it become a permanent problem.

can you not get into download mode using hardware buttons?
The usb cable that came with the phone is not working for you even after installing the proper samsung usb drivers? What windows OS are you trying on?
Make sure it is a data cable and not a charge only cable. Look at the tag that is on the cable and it should tell you what it is.
Like UpNSmoke said.. make sure your using the correct cables.
It is suggested that if your having issues with a computer recognizing your phone to plug the cable in to the USB Port that is on your Motherboard on your Computer.
I would also suggest that if you haven't already - use the drivers that are in Design Gears ODIN 1 Click Back to Stock (links also provided in the sticky here as well). These are the one's I've been using since I've had my phone - and haven't had any issues.
Another thing you can do is - plug in your phone - and then re-install the drivers while the phone is plugged in.
And lastly.. I seem to have better luck with my Windows 7 box then my work's Windows XP machine. Good luck..

The cable I used was the one that came with the phone, what's odd is that I've never had this problem until earlier this week. I've tested it on Win7 x64 and Win7 x86

Tried ODIN 1-click and every machine I've run it on is windows 7.
I haven't had any luck getting a decent connection to my phone yet either. I've tried several different drivers, x86 and x64, different versions of each. Different versions of Kies and Kies Mini. I've tried suggestions from online. Nothing has gotten me anything reliable. I almost forgot, I've tried 2 different phones also. It would be one thing if it just NEVER worked, but for it to work sometimes and other times not, mostly not, is frustrating. I'm afraid to try a new ROM since everything I see about unbricking a Captivate requires a USB connection.
You definitely need to have to have a working USB connection before flashing... and plus you need it to return to stock using ODIN.
Have you tried re-installing the drivers with the phone plugged in and no dice?
I've tried plugged in, not plugged in. USB hub, USB motherboard connection. Just about everything I've seen online I've tried. Some don't work at all and others work briefly but usually within a day refuse to work more than it does work.

[Q] [HELP] Rooted my NC, now my HTC G2 doesnt work...

This is kind of a mixed forum question....
but I managed to get my NC up and rooted (awesome job btw, totally rocks ), and now my HTC G2 isnt being registered by my PC when i plug it in for charging. They use the same cable so I usually just swap them out.
Any ideas? Its still charging, and I tried different usb ports and uninstalling the device profiles in DevManager... but still no dice.
Any help will be appreciated~
The nooncolor has a slightly different cable... try using the original cable from the G2

Im using a regular B/W nook cable, which doesnt have the different prong type in it, its just a regular Micro SD cable like the G2 and other phones use... but still no luck. My computer keeps treating it like an Unknown Device and i think its trying to use the adb-usb driver that i had to use for the NC
So ive gotten a little further and realized that Windows is assigned the wrong driver to the phone. Is there anyway to figure out what the old driver was or where the base one is for Windows? It keeps defaulting to the adb-usb driver and thats whats causing the issue~
Shouldn't you have the option to rollback the driver to a previous one in windows?

The B&N Nook Color cable is not normal.
Just download pdanet for android to your computer. It will find and install the appropriate drivers.
Okay... so I tried all of that. I mean, Im not a novice, but Im not an uber-pro either. From what I can tell, when I use the micro SD (non-adapted) usb cable and plug it into a HUB, the computer kinda sees my phone, but doesnt actually know how to properly load it and says "Cannot install correct driver"
But when I plug the usb directly into a slot on th MoBo or front port, it just doesnt see it at all and gives it power to charge.
SearEuslee, WTF!? (heh, sorry couldnt resist trying that)
Anyways, any help is most appreciated :C I really want to root my phone, but cant when the computer doesnt see it anymore....

Is USB Debugging enabled?
W-7 will be automatic, with the drivers built in, but not vista. You will have to install them.

Sorry, should have mentioned this. Yep. I have. I've not been able to see it in either environment (currently running win7 on the machine I'm typing on). The last time I was able to see it was on an XP machine. Never on Vista and now on this new 7 box. I have also factory reset this as well but still nothing.

I have Win 7 and it wasn't automatic. I'm pretty sure you need to install them, either by installing Kies or just installing the Samsung drivers.

Made me LOL...
Turned it off. Connected to PC. Selected mass storage, then the option to mount. Then got the USB device not recognized message again as well as the option to look at the USB device properties which indicated the unknown device and to "replace the device if windows is unable to recognize" it. I also opened kies express which I also downloaded to load the most current drivers (for US). Still nothing.
If the wifi didn't work on it, I'd probably take this thing skeet shooting and use it as a clay pigeon, I'm that frustrated...
Deinstall all program including drivers and kies. Reboot and in system/config look if their is all cleaned so no Usb installed
Now reinstall kies.
On your tab in system connect to kies on connect and not to Usb.
Now connect tab to windows and only when no connect is fossiele then install usbdrivers.

Ok...completely uninstalled everything and checked the registry for any instances of Samsung to make sure all drivers are removed. The only difference now is that I couldn't find the link to Kies Express, so I'm just going to install standard Kies. Crossing my fingers.
The tablet shows connected to Kies when that is opened but when I close that and try to connect as USB and mount. I get the same error message about USB device not recognized. I also try to update the driver in system properties but get the same error that the device driver is up to date "unknown device".
Windows 7 is automatic. On the dialer type *#7284# and set usb to pda.
maybe your usb cord is fudged
Yeah, thats a good reminder. The aftermarket cords have caused a few temporary bricks.
Vista trouble
my experience is trouble to connect kies gtab while i'm having my portable hdd with my laptop
Oooh, thats a good point too. Disconnect those other usb devices when flashing your precious! And all usb ports are not created equal. Only one of the three on my laptop recognizes my tab in odin or heimdall.

I spent a couple of days trying to connect my Tab to a number of different OS's from XP up to Win7 on 3 different computers. Each time the dreaded message of "USB device not recognised" came up. The solution was so simple after all the frustration. Soon after purchasing the tablet, I bought a car charger which came with a connection cord. Looks the same as the original except without the the Samsung logo on the flat connector. As soon as I plugged in the original USB lead, voila! "Device is ready to use" message appeared.
Moral of the story. If you are having problems connecting your Tablet to a PC through USB..... make sure you are using the USB lead that came with the tablet.

The cable i have is the original samsung cable and as mentioned earlier when connecting it to my labtop it works... I have been reading up a bit on other forums and i think it has to do with my computer not being able to recognize the device.. hopefully i can find something useful and post it here to help anybody else. if anyone else got any ideas, please share...

[Q] USB Doesn't Recognize with all drivers and method.

Hello,
I am newbie here.
I have my captivate since January. I like the device itself very much.
However, I wasn't able to update the firmware to Froyo or Gingerbread at all due to a lot of difficulties that I faced.
My phone is ROOT(just to confirm, I have 'superuser' app - does that mean my phone is ROOT?).
I used to have laptop with linux 10.04, and believe or not it was so difficult to ROOT my phone.
However, I have Win7 64bit Professional currently.
And trying to upgrade to Gingerbread. (My phone is 2.1 firmware as of now.)
The problem that I'm facing is that my phone won't recognize at all when I plug into USB ports.
These are what I've tried so far,
(on both USB debugging mode & mass storage mode)
- Yes, I tried several different ports as of suggestions from other post.
- I tried to install & re-install drivers. (I tried SGH-i897_Captivate_USB_Drivers_5_02_0_2.zip driver & Samsung Galaxy S USB Driver for Windows x64)
- I did restart my computer more than 10 times.
- I installed current kies and re-install several times.
- I installed older version of kies 1.xxxx.
- I did delete drivers from device management.
I am really running out with ideas to solve my problem.
I've been researching a lot & can't find any more solutions.
CAN ANYONE HELP???
Thanx!!!
Have you tried a different USB cable? Preferably the one that came with the phone (unless that's the one you're using now, of course)?

The cable that came with the Captivate is known to not work with all computers (my guess is it's some sort of voltage range it doesn't like). There are a few threads on this in this forum.
My suggestion is to get a Motorola cable. Here's why:
My stock Samsung cable that came with my Captivate worked on my old PowerMac G5, but not my brand new iMac. I thought it was an attempt by Apple to deny use of Android phones on their machines.
I tried using a store-bought USB cable by RocketFish. It still didn't work.
Out of desperation, I tried the Motorola cable that came with my wife's Bravo, and the phone connected with no problem.
From your description, it sounds like you could connect on an old computer/OS combo, but not with a new computer/OS combo. So try to get your hands on a Motorola cable (or other third-party cable) and try that.
@ apbthe3 yes, I am already using the cable that came with the phone. Thanx!
@ KreepyKen I did try the cable that I have with on a mac computer and the mac seems like not recognizing either. I'll go to AT&T shop to see if they can try with motorola cable. Thanx!
