[Q] AOSP of 2.3\2.2 Rom??? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do we have any of those roms anymore?
Because I had a rom like that a long time ago that wasn't Cyanogen...it was amazing, sold the phone, and now im back to a Captivate again. I'm looking for a rom that is similar to a port from Nexus S. It's happened before, so can i have it again? Looked high and low for those and XDA is like the last forum to have those roms. Now everyone wants 4.0....well the phone isnt made for 4.0...only for 2.3
I dont like touchwiz. just want AOSP 2.3 or 2.2....thats all. Thank you for your help!

Not sure what there is besides CM7. Which is very nice. But I'm sure you could find something by looking/searching in the dev section. And you can't really say this phone isn't meant for ICS. All the hype for ICS is because there is much to be hyped about
Sent from my CM9 ICS i897 Captivate

yep, plenty of good 2.3 in the dev section, just read through them.
However I find that, on my three captivates of varying revisions, I get the best performance out of ICS roms.
Battery, on the other hand, I have been struggling with. I prefer WEUI overall, but I cannot get through the day without 2 sometimes 3 charges. So, currently my primary phone is running ICSSGS RC4.2 with UGKG3 modem on the 850 band. With that I can easily go 10+ hours of my normal use without having to worry about it.
all personal opinion, of course

[Q] Stable ROM for sister's Captivate

My sister has been suffering with the Captivate's stock rom for the past year, and she's bugging me to upgrade it for her (she's technologically challenged). I'm lost with all the unfamiliar ROM options over here. I don't care if it's Froyo or Gingerbread, or if there's no longer Dev support for it - I don't plan to touch it once I get it loaded up for her. I just want the most stable ROM I can put on there that will get her through the next year of her contract. Please specify ROM AND version you'd recommend for this purpose. Thanks in advance!

I used Paragon RC6 for a long time and it was very stable and fast. It's a FroYo ROM and development on it is dead.

Just as a heads-up, threads like this usually end up getting shut down fairly fast. I know that isn't what you're hoping for, though, so my advice is to take a look at the roms that have a lot of posts associated with them. They're usually still being attended to, and have good support if something goes haywire. It ends up being a matter of personal choice, so it ultimately has to be up to you.
(That being said, I understand your situation, and I personally put Firefly 3.0 on the phones of people who just wanted something better than stock. Just my two cents. Offer not valid in Svalbard.)
If stock ish looking is your thing. I would recommend Cognition 4.x.x (froyo KB1 base). It was finished in dev tweak for speed and stability and can be Overclocked if you choose to. Also has Voodoo support. As jmtheiss said this probably be locked soon. But I understand where you are coming from.

Thanks for this - I took a better look at Paragon and it sounds like it may fit my needs. I had mainly been looking at Serendipity 6.4 and Firefly because they seem to be 2 of the most popular options, but the Paragon thread makes it sound pretty good as well...
I know these "which rom" threads are frowned upon, but most of us are addicted to flashing our devices and so I couldn't find a relevant discussion here of a good rom to just 'flash and forget.'
My wife ran Andromeda 3 for ever with out a prob. Great battery life, stable, and responsive

firefly 3.0 with onyx kernel got me the BEST battery life ever. (nearly 3 days on extended battery minimal use)for a girl that texts alot that would be a good bet. built on 2.2 android but most girls wont care the difference.

Are ICS ROMs Good? Stable?

I'm running Gingerbread ROMs right now and hesitant to move to ICS. When are ICS ROMs good enough for daily use? I'm looking for stability and speed that is comparable to Apex and Mosaic. Prefer to use Apex right now because it's the most up to date and most stable.
You could read through the threads to see what others are saying. But I installed it on my Dads cappy a few weeks ago, and he hasn't had a single issue with it so far. Before that he was on Mosaic and was having a ton of issues. I used it for a couple of days when I put it on his phone, and it was probably the fastest, smoothest rom that I had ever run while I had the cappy. I would go for it.

Ya I'm taking a brief look, but not sure which to choose if I do move to ICS.
Basic AOSP (clean untouched googgle android) is Onecosmic's. The soon to be CM9 is team Hacksung. There is a themed modded one based of Team Hacksung's work. Wich one is more stable or not depends on the user, up to you to read and try.
I use teamhacksung's every day as my main ROM, and it works fantastically. I'm still running build 12, so there are some improvements since then, but I don't have any issues with it at all. It is significantly faster than all the other ROMS I have tried (I used to use Mosaic...). The only thing that is slightly worse is the battery life. If I use my phone a lot (more than texting...like, web browsing, youtube, etc), my phone dies before an entire day of usage. Granted, I did get my captivate the first day it came out, so there might be a hardware issue there too.
I highly recommend it. It was the best jump I have made, and it stopped me from getting the GS2. Now I can wait for the GC3

The 'best' ROM is whatever you find suits you. Best to just try a few out and make your own decision.

[Q] which one for my needs

i just bought 2 captivates and before i start using them i want to ask which ROM i should flash
-i need all the battery power i can get
-i dont use my phone for much more then calls, texts, emails, GPS and facebook. i sometimes, like once a month will watch a youtube video.
-want all the crapware gone theres TONS of it
what ROM should i look to get. i heard of one called fasty but see that its discontinued.
The latest are the ICS, There are many ICS ROM right now thanks to our Great Devs for all there efforts.
If u want Ginger bread my all time favorite are Mosaic and Serendipity and if u want froyo then there is this ROM FIREFLY.
gingerbread or ICS is fine but i want which ever has the best batter life. ive heard people can get 22-34 hrs out of there phone
I have 2 captivates one is running SLIM ICS and other one ICSSGS and i get decent battery life on both so give them a try and see what suits.
"Best ROM" threads don't last long. Each phone is entirely different. Some get amazing life while other get terrible. It is all hardware and user related. Try them all

[Q] Best (stable) current firmware for Galaxy S GT-I9000

Greetings,
I got a GT-I9000 which will become my main phone. But, before that, I’d like to install the best, most stable, firmware for it.
I prefer stability, and having all the features operational, to speed. I don’t need something ultra-tweaked to be super-fast.
I just want to use all the capabilities of the phone without having to worry if a problem is the phone’s fault or the firmware’s.
I’ve seen a few threads around, with many firmwares, but none made a good comparison or gave me a final decision (maybe because there is none).
I’ll be using the phone in Portugal (don’t know if this is that relevant to the answers).
Thanks.
Edit: I'm not necessarily looking for Android 4. If 3.5.x or something is the best option for now, I'm ok with it.
Hi, try this one out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1489213
It's realy fast and stable, it's worth a try
I think DarkyRom (http://www.darkyrom.com) (Gingerbread) is what you are looking for.
I have been using it for over 6 months and it was pretty stable. I use v10.2.2 and never felt the need to go for 10.4.2.
Yesterday I switch to Dark Knight (ICS) hoping it will be better. I am more concern about battery consumption so I am still trying this one out. Maybe I'll stick with it, maybe I'll go back to Darky. But as of now I would say it's a bit snappier, could be a placebo effect.

Questions about the AT&T Galaxy Note/Roms

Hey everyone,
I'm going to be a brand new Galaxy note Owner soon, out of box fresh stock from ATT...
I've "flashed" roms i guess before on several Android devices... i'm still not 100% in tune with all the LINGO everyone uses these days.. and I gotta say it's become more and more confusing as days go by.. so it's hard to determine and understand "whats out there" available...
Anywho.. to the reason for my post,
I'm pretty sure i'm NOT going to be happy with the stock experience provided by samsung and also all the BLOATWARE...
What's the best rom out there for me to get that would be the closest to stock Ice Cream sandwich? the fastest and smoothest, and also has the easiest process to Root and Rom into?
Any help anyone can provide would be MUCH Appreciated. =)
Thanks.
If it is fresh from ATT it probably isn't an international model. So you need to go to the Galaxy Note ATT version forum on XDA.
It takes time and research to safely jump into the root/flash pool. I've been doing it for a couple of years and still i'm confused by a lot of the lingo these rom developers use, but they are mostly pretty good about explaining the rom, and safe practices in the posts so you will pick up on it.
You should probably ask this question in the AT&T note section. The international note has a different chip set so as far as i understand the roms won't be interchangable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1513
Some roms are on multiple devices so i can recommend some of the big ones. CM9 is my favorite, its coming along nicely and has a good amount of customization. Kang is also pretty good and has more customization than Cm9. those are probably the two biggest roms that are close to ICS AOSP (which i'm assuming you mean by stock rather than touchwiz stock). I havent received my note (N7000) yet so i havent been able to try these out, but i hear ya lose your SPen integration on these roms. I ran CM9 on the Galaxy Nexus from day one.
Hope i helped
