Fellow XDA-devs,
When I was in US for work I bought myself a T-mobile G1 and used the TM plan of my employer for use in the US. When I moved back (quit my job in an unhappy way), I had an ex-colleague sim unlock my phone via his account number through T-mobile customer support.
After one month the device wouldn't read my Belgian Mobistar SIM-card, and I even tried other providers including T-mobile in the Netherlands.
It took me about 4 months to get the my T-mobile G1 repaired.
Because it's a T-mobile simlocked device and an US device every European repair center denied the repair.
Check this forum post at the Official HTC community forums for more info about the first part of this adventure. Still unanswered
hxxp://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/40/t/808.aspx (replace the x's, new forum users can't post urls. Sry mods/admins for the extra work )
The device finally got board swapped when repaired at HTC USA. (Big tnx)
Now that I have my device back it's again SIM locked to T-mobile US and because it's another IMEI code my old unlock code doesn't work anymore.
Since I got back I ain't a T-mobile customer anymore and my ex-colleague also quit I can't get the sim-unlock code.
But to get the code from T-mobile I just need a willing person to provide me with the permission to unlock my phone via his/her account.
Anyone willing to help, please?

Simple. http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com/
I haven't tried it but it should work.
Already tried several services.
None can provide the code.
All you need to do is provide a Tmobile customer with your phones IMEI. They can contact customer care with that and request the unlock code to be emailed to themselves and then after receiving said email can PM you the information on here. That way you have nothing to do with their account.
The reason I'm posting this is because your wording made it sound like you wanted someone to allow YOU to call in on their account.

Hi, im in the uk and i just received my brand new droid 3 global phone today and its great! Apart from the fact it is locked to verizon usa ..
But to my aid i was given 2 unlock codes and i tried them both but they didnt work, so i tried them a couple of times and now my phone says that i have to contact the service provider (which is verizon). So i contacted verizon and they said that i had to be in the us and had to have been a customer for 6months for them to unlock it, so they wern't much help.
So i went to my network here on the uk, and they pointed me here.
I want to use my giffgaff sim (uk network) on my phone so was wondering that is there any way I can unlock this phone? Assuming it is hardlocked, is it possible for me to send it to a phone shop or is it too new for them to unlock it as of yet? Is there any alternative to unlocking it using the two codes i have got?
Hiya,
Have a look at this thread for 3rd party options to unlock your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172521
I'm in the UK too, but had my phone unlocked in the US prior to shipping - at least I can confirm that an unlocked droid 3 will work in the UK (on vodafone in my case).
You mentioned you have 2 unlock codes - from where?
Hi,
Thanks for the reply,
I got them codes from the man who sold me the phone. I thaught that they may be dodgy code so purchased an unlock code from ebay, and told the seller that if it was them two codes that i had, then to give me a refund coz they didn't work. He gave me a refund coz he got the same codes.
I'll check your link out.
Thanks,

Hi again thingonaspring,
Ive checked you link and they talk about unlock codes,
I don't think I have anymore tries left with using an unlock code.
Do you think i can unlock the phone with a cable by sending it to a shop in the uk?
Thanks,
You mean your droid is now frozen?
What do you mean by frozen? It might be, can it not be unlocked?

Well, someone entered the wrong code 3x on a samsung star and it was "sim freeze" or "phone freeze" I think it's called.. or frozen. It says to contact your provider

Yeah, i think i might have frozen my phone by entering the wrong code. What do you think i should do? Send it to a phone shop to be unlocked? Is it even possible to unlock with cables and an unlocking kit?
Can anyone help?
Doesn't matter, found the answer. Sending it to a phone shop.
Thanks guys
What was the answer? For those who end up with the same problem.
hello, may i ask you where you got the Droid 3 from? Is the 3G fully working as well when it came unlocked?
Hello
I apologize if my English is not good, but try to explain my problem
A few days ago I buy a Motorola Droid 3 on Ebay.
my seller said that Verizon is not blocked.
I received a phone but it asks for unlock code.
I know it's wrong that I bought on Ebay, but in Europe you can not found this, end I want this item and lot.
in this case how to get unlock code?
and I tried ebay, but all gave me the same code 72555264
last option would be to find someone who is subscribed to Verizon, and ask the code
If anyone is willing pay $ 50
Seem scary to me as I am having mine sent to me a few day. Hopefully you can get it unlocked very soon. Let me know who can do it for you.
no one wants to help me
There has been people saying that Verizon blocked SIM unlock, or at least changed the code with a recent update. You'll have to try one of those Unlocking Sim cards

PM your email address, I may help you get the unlock code from Verizon.
Let us now if you find a solution.
Not sure, but I think you need to have the phone active on a verizon account when you get the unlock code, so it will work on your phone. The line you use to get the code will need to be in good standing for approximately six months before they'll hand over the code, just fyi.

You'll need to find someone who has a line on Verizon who is willing to help you. Otherwise, you're out of luck.
I know
but I hope that in a later, someone will help me, and not free
Hi again! Finally I found someone, Verizon subscribed. He gave to them all the details of the phone and they send the unlock code. But, surprise! It s not work!! What to do now! It s possible something like this ?? There are two kind of codes or other things that I dont know?? Please, if you know some other informations...help me!
The phone may need to be activated on that line because the phone needs to communicate with Verizon using the unlock code to prompt them to actually unlock it on their end. I recently unlocked one of my T-Mobile phones which I gave to a family member to use on AT&T, and this was the case. It's just another step they can perform over the phone using your info. If you can skype or Google Talk with your friend while they call Verizon, they can tell him any steps he must take with the phone to activate it on his line, then he'll message/tell you what to do. Then once activated, enter the unlock code and it should work. After it is successfully unlocked, he can go ahead and change back to his phone on his account by activating it the same way.
Kinda sucks to have to do this, but I think that is your best bet.
I tried, but without any result. It seems that my friend gave me not the correct code, and now no longer respond. in this case I'll donate it, because it not stand to see him. but maybe there is someone enthusiastic to help.
The only alternative is to use TurboSim. It is cheap, but has some limitations.

Really need a way to unlock my galaxy s4 active from at&t, just bought off ebay and rooted it but haven't found a way to unlock the network yet so I can use 4g with solavei.
I tried using the *#0011# method but couldn't past the initial screen.
Please any help would be appreciated.

All I did was call 611 and told them that I was leaving the country and I need it for business. However they have records that my previous phones have been unlocked for travels as well as me buying phone from them. You could always try and test your luck though. I've read a thread somewhere that someone got their S4A unlocked similar to how I got mine unlocked but they didn't specify whether or not they got it through AT&T or not. Oh and if it doesn't work with one rep, try calling again later with another rep. Supposedly some reps care and look into your records to see if you qualify and others don't give a crap. Good luck!
I have at&t and called them to try to get my phone unlocked. they told me it wasn't possible since I just purchased the phone back in August, even though I've had an account with them for the last decade and have had many unlocked phones with them.
I was told that this policy was changed within the last 2 weeks, not sure if that's a BS line they fed me or not, but have tried calling different reps and have had no luck.
Also, when I enter my number in online to the online request form, it automatically tells me my phone cannot be unlocked. Apparently new policy states that any phone that is still under contract will not be unlocked my AT&T.
where are all the helpful replies?
Im in the same boat. There has to b a way. Why cant we roll back the jellybean build to a version that has access to the unlock panel?
Why is unlocking not possible using a root method of some type??? Is this build truely not unlockable without a custom code? MOD Edit: This is a development site. Please do not ask for illegal unlocking methods here
post some links to helpful blogs etc please
This is the leading site for answers but mod says look elsewhere with no helpful redirection..... WTF?
Where should we go now then?

That's unfortunate. If it was me, I'd just keep trying to test my luck but I guess AT&T wised up a bit.

MOD kinda said they are a development site and don't partake in illegal methods. In case you didn't know, unlocking without carrier consent is illegal however rooting/flashing roms and etc aren't since they are just part of the opensource backbone of android. And to answer your question, google is a good place to start if you can't get answers here.
The reason the mods took issue with this is because the OP is not an AT$T customer, he bought a phone off eBay, and is now looking for someone to help him with his mistake. Carriers only unlock phones for customers as a courtesy, there is no requirement of them to do so. While XDA is all about modding phones, providing unlock codes for people who are not entitled to them is against their policy. Better that he bought one of the many unlocked phones for sale on eBay. I'm surprised the mods didn't also close this thread.
Look up Chainfires region lock away. Got a s4 active off eBay, rooted it with the activerootapp. Then used chainfires Regionlockaway. And popped in a tmobile sim card and enabled aws bands and now using HSPA+.

What are the rules on someone who buys the phone on ebay, but are still on at&t?

Yep got chainfires app on playstore and used irish sim card which worked. I am with at&t and not looking to move but I bought my phone on ebay and if I go to Ireland I feel entitled to use it freely.

So I messed up and bought an AT&T Nexus 6 on Swappa. IMEI checked out okay and all looked good. Seller said he'd used it on Verizon and was a nice guy.
Decided a little later to try out T-Mobile service and it turns out it is still carrier locked to AT&T. They (AT&T) have told me several different stories, but the latest one is that the original owner has to call and request the unlock. Well the person I bought it from bought it used ... And he's been trying to, I presume, find the original owner to see about him getting it unlocked.
Anyway, I messed up and I have learned not to trust an IMEI alone. But does anyone have any suggestions? I tried two unlocking services and they each took a week and came back with unable to unlock and gave a refund. AT&T unlock site says they can't locate the IMEI.
Anyone been through this? When I insert a sim it requests a sim unlock code. With my Verizon sim, I can make and receive calls and texts if I dismiss the sim unlock prompt, but no data. I can't even find where to enter APN settings to try that out.
At my wits end.

i think you can just use a sim unlock website idk a trustworthy one though
I would tell the person you bought it from to take it back. If he refuses dispute it through PayPal and they will side with you, have him pay return shipping, and refund your money out of his PayPal account once the delivery is confirmed by the shipping service. I think you have 180 days to file a dispute through PayPal. PayPal is extremely biased for buyers, which works in your favor in this case.
Whether that guy knew or not isn't important. He sold you a phone without disclosing that it was sim locked. Not to mention if you're seeing the error on verizon then so was he (he scammed you). Either way that's his problem to figure out after you get your money back.
Also please leave this information in his feedback on swappa. Those of us who buy and sell every month or more need honest feedback to know who to avoid.

Yup. They were the second. They couldn't do it. So they refunded. The IMEI isn't blacklisted so I really don't know what's up.
And the fact that I can call and text with Verizon, but only data is blocked, is weird. The phone registers on Verizon's network and shows up in My Verizon under my account.

It has to be SIM locked.
T-Mobile SIM won't register on the network at all even though it's an active SIM. The T-Mobile SIM works in my other phones. Verizon SIM registers but no data available, and it still prompts me for a SIM unlock code even though I can make and receive calls and send and receive texts.
Honestly, if there's a work-around out there I'm down to find out. I can't even locate the APN settings on this thing ... Had to go in through a Nova Launcher widget.
Phone wasn't payed for or ATT would unlock it. They only lock data.

The seller has a good history, and has been communicating with me. I just don't know if he really knew how not unlockable this phone is. AT&T did a number on it, first with the extra software and then with the aggressive carrier lock. I'm not used to carrier locked phones since I'm on Verizon. They don't do that.

You are correct. Swappa will work out fine with a cooperative seller. But if the seller proves to be uncooperative at any point, they have no means to help further. If one opens a dispute on PayPal, it can be cancelled at any time. In a case like this, I'd start with PayPal now.

I believe your phone is SIM unlocked. Before unlocking mine, if I inserted a VZW SIM, I got a popup with something like "unauthorized SIM. Enter unlock code to continue".
I don't follow. If it prompted you before you unlocked it it would have been SIM locked. SIM unlocked devices don't prompt you to enter a network or SIM unlock code.

Correct. I am saying that it appears that your N6 is unlocked.
Nope it appears that mine is SIM locked. Not unlocked because if it was I wouldn't be prompted to enter the code. And it would have data on any active SIM. I'm going to try a refund. If that doesn't work, maybe someone with AT&T will want one. For a great price. Ugh.
