Someone in asus transformer forum has ported floating notes and used it in their tablet from the xyboard
I tried to install but it doesn't work
this is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473298
Any ideas why?
Running EOS ics rom 1
Here's what ALMOST worked for me.
Download the .apk
Open Root Explorer ( in the market )
Browse to / sdcard/Download
Long press signedFloatingNotes.API
Select copy
Browse to /system/app
Click button on top that says mount r/w
Select paste at bottom of screen
Long press signedFloatingNotes.API
Select permissions
set to owner read+write, group read, orhers read
Select OK
Click signedFloatingNotes.API
Click install
Click OK
Click button at top that says mount r/o
Exit Root explorer
Go to app drawer
Select widgets at top
Browse to Floating Notes
Long press and dump it on your home screen
Read the directions that pop up.
Enjoy.
If you're not running ICS then the app drawer steps can be omitted and just long press on the home screen and goto widgets and select floating notes.
By the way. You need to be rooted to do it that way otherwise I'm not sure if you can change the permissions and you definately cant mount /system/app as r/w.
**Another edit. Installs fine, looks awesome, but force closes and won't work. Maybe a dev can figure it out. I'm unfortunately not one. Don't know about the likelihood of someone taking it on but I'll be watching this thread Sorry to get your hopes up.
It's unfortunate that it doesn't work, I was looking forward to using/seeing it in action. The Xoom needs the awesomeness that other tablets have. Thank you for the above steps, though!
edit* Don't know if it matters, but I found the xyboard system dump with the app, but still can't get it running on Xoom. I'm not versed in this type of stuff, so I don't know the tricks and whatnot. If anyone's interested I've uploaded the apk.

Not sure if anyone posted this, but I thought I saw someone mention the lack of apps in marketplace under top paid/top free, etc.
I noticed that when you switch to landscape, marketplace will then load the rest of the apps under each category (continuously, as you keep scrolling). Probably old news, but figured I'd throw that out in case there are others out there that were confused like me, considering it was my first time ever using droid marketplace
new market
The old market will only display 10 apps and 1 app need to be off the screen to enable scrolling.
Download the new market from the post below. copy it to your SD card and use Astro file explorer to install it. The new market is made for tablets and you will not need to switch to landscape to scroll to more apps.

Open astro. Click menu. Click more. Click preferences. Check the box next to browser downloads.

Or he could just follow the instructions on the linkied thread...
Still doesn't work, the new one that is. It just crashes when I try and open it. How do I go about reinstalling the old market? It says something about no certificates when I try and reinstall it. Thanks
There are instructions in a thread in the Themes and Apps section.
It involves using adb but it's really no biggie.
So I just rooted my nookcolor, got it working perfectly except for two keyboard related issues:
1. Whenever I select to use the gingerbread keyboard, no keyboard appears when I click on a data field.
2. When I click on 'Keyboard Settings' in the settings menu, it crashes to the home screen. I'm really just trying to turn off the setting that shows the pop-up when a key is pressed.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
Okay so I've solved the first issue by installing the gingerbread keyboard apk, however I'm still running into the second issue. I cannot for the life of me access my keyboard settings, whenever I clicked it the screen just crashes to the home screen. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there an APK for settings that I could replace to get this working?
Keyboard
Look in the extras area for NookColor Tools
It's a screwed up place to put the keyboard selection but it's there!!
Thanks for the reply however I do not see an 'Extras' section. I've looked in both the Nookcolor Tools and the regular NookColor settings. I see the 'Keyboard' settings that crashes on me, however I don't see an 'Extras'. Could you point me in the right direction?
Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I know what you're talking about. However, that's not my issue. My issue is that when I click on 'Keyboard Settings' inside of settings, it crashes to home. I want to set my keys to not pop up when i type.
I also have a newly rooted NC and am having Keyboard issues too. (I just saw this thread as I was posting my own). I have the same issue of it crashing when you try and look at the settings. I also had the same issue with the GingerBread keyboard not showing up in a text field. I uninstalled it because I think it is broke.
I have been working with trying to get Japanese Keyboards to work with the nook so here is what you might want to do. It is ass backwards.. but its how I've been doing it to get keyboards to show up when I try to use them.
- Download a new/different gingerbread APK
- If you install it.. i bet you won't be able to select it from the keyboard list.. even after restart.
- Make sure in NookColorTools the check box is checkd for allowing 3rd party apps (if the bottom fails you might need to uncheck it and recheck it)
- Buy Root Explorer
- navigate in RE to the mysterious /data/app/ folder and find the apk that you
downloaded.. and copy it.
- navigate to /system/app/ and push the button at the top to allow writing of files.
paste the apk into this directory.
- hold in the file and it will prompt to install it.
- it might ask to replace existing ... say OK.
- Install successful.. now you will see the keyboard to choose from.
I was able to solve my gingerbread keyboard problem by just re-downloading the apk and pushing it to /system/apps/. after that i was able to select it and it's working just fine now.
however, my only problem now is accessing keyboard settings. it just always crashes to home screen. all i want to do is set the pop up on keyboard to off!
bump! anyone?!
THIS THREAD IS NOW OBSOLETE - GO HERE FOR A MODDED APK THAT WORKS WITH THE XOOM
Known compatibility (not sure if this would change between roms, but I thought I'd include it):
Wifi Xoom with stock rom
Wifi Xoom with tiamat rom
Wifi Xoom with Eos nightlies
This method has been mentioned in a few other threads that discuss how to run hulu on our Xoom but I figured I would try to contribute with a bit of a guide for those that may need it. I take no credit for this method, its simply something I came across in numerous locations (including XDA and somewhere else for my Motorola Photon - same method works) and would like to consolidate the information for other Xoom owners.
On to the guide...
Root access is required for this method to work as well as Titanium Backup. If you do not have root access and do not want to root, you can use the hacked flash apk that allows you to watch hulu in a browser on your Xoom. This information can be found here.
1. You will need to first download this Zip Folder.
Inside you should find 3 files.
2. Take these files and move them to your Titanium Backup folder (where all the backups are stored). All three files need to be moved here.
3. Open Titanium Backup. Toggle on over to the Backup/restore tab and scroll toward the bottom. You should now see the HuluPlus app here.
4. Click on Hulu Plus and select Restore..
5. The key step! You must select App + Data. Selecting only App will result in Hulu+ being restored but upon opening, indicating that your device is not supported. Select App + Data!
And there you go. Open Hulu Plus and you can begin watching. Unfortunately this is a backup from a phone so it automatically switches to portrait mode and really isn't designed for tablets. If you have an app like Orientation Switch that can lock your orientation for you, you can set it to landscape for the time being and that will make things a bit better.
I know this may come across as a bit of a redundant thread, but I thought I'd try to contribute, as XDA has helped me out a lot. Also, if you could please provide feedback if it worked for you/didn't work for you that'd be great! Enjoy

Can you elaborate please? What exactly is not working?
Basically have the same rooted set up as you do. I have uninstalled, downloaded, restored through Titanium several times and it loads but still says device not supported and I cant go any further. I do restore app+data. Any other thoughts?
Did you install the hulu APK (the normal way, sideloading it like any other apk) and then backup -> restore?
And are you running on stock honeycomb or Tiamat?
I did not side load apk.. I had originally downloaded apk and installed then I uninstalled and put files in Titanium backup folder and restored. I saw a few posts that said all you needed was the restore. I have Tiamat

OK so you must be my lucky charm. I shut it down and restart and it works like a champ. I'll let you know if I have any problems. Thanks
Awesome good to hear it worked!

To be clear does this mean you HAVE to watch it in landscape? Normally hulu wen you click play (on my Evo for example) automatically goes into landscape anyway and that's a "phone" so i am a bit confused by this statement. Or do you just mean the menus and stuff are portrait instead of landscape like they normally would be on a tablet.
THANKS!

Your last part is correct. When you open the app with normal orientation (nothing preventing it from rotating) it will switch to portrait mode just as it would on your phone. However, just as on your phone, it will switch to landscape to play video. The only part that looks bad in portrait really is the initial screen, as it leaves 70% of the screen empty. After that it looks alright. It might just be me as well, but the menu screens in landscape mode seem to not like to load the preview image.

I still get the "Device Not Supported" message
After a few restores of the app, its now working
Thanks much.
Did you happen to have a prior backup of the app or any instance of huluplus on your Xoom prior to trying the backup? I have tried this on my Xoom on a few different Roms with clean data and it works first time when I do it. Just trying to gauge why it doesn't work right away for some people
Anyone Have any luck getting a replacement keyboard to work. I have tried Slideit, Swype, Swiftkey. All of them crash regardless. I can set them up, its just once there ready to go it crashes. Then i have to go back to using the default keyboard. I even tried using the old Nooktools for the original kindle, can't seem to get anything to work. Anybody have any luck?

I finnally did this, but what sucks is that in landscape mode the keyboard doesn't fit the screen properly. But in portrait mode the keyboard works amazingly. Guess I will fiddle with some other keyboards till I find one that works if there are any. They really did not want keyboards to work.
Bump.
So ive noticed that keyboards do work. in both portrait and landscape, but the landscape only works correctly with the lock screen password. This is due to the home key bar, it covers over part of it. Anyone have a way around this or a fix? possibly settings change to the keyboard apps. Not sure how to work this.

got the same prob with the crashing app. which *.so file is it I need to move for using swiftkey?
You need to install SwiftKey normally. Use root explorer go to data/app. I then find SwiftKey and move it to system/app. I then go to data/data find the com.touchtypeSwiftKey go to this folder. Then /lib and right click move the file in lib folder. I move it to system/lib. Restart device then it should work. But be careful

I have the same problem in fact I installed 4 kind of keyboards Go keyboard, SwiftKey 3 tablet, Thump keyboard and Multi keyboard with the same result when the lanscape position some keys hide behind home key bar.
How do you do it to make it work perfectly with the lock screen password I tried but it did not seem to work maybe you can show me a way before some expert here can make a tool to hide the home key bar.
TIA
For those of us with the AT&T Galaxy S5 who were oh so pleasantly surprised to find that AT&T had disabled some features on their Galaxy S5 model in favor of their own bloatware, here is a fix for enabling car mode for hands free use while driving. This method does not require any flashing, custom ROMS or recovery.
This is a list of modifications done to my phone for reference. Not all may be required. Rooted with TowelRoot (SuperSU), Safestrap recovery installed (with busybox), Xposed framework with Wanam xposed installed (to turn of the emergency call feature on lock screen, disable wake with home button, and disable camera shutter sound), SQLite Editor installed and all AT&T bloatware turned off (make sure AT&T DriveMode is turned off if nothing else).
1. You must have root. If you don't yet have your phone rooted just go to towelroot.com and get Geohot's towelroot app and run it.
2. Refer to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2720257) for instructions on how to install the DriveLink APKs. This thread references the Note3 running Android 4.4.2 but the same process is used on the S5.
3. Refer to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733065) for instructions on how to enable the quick setting tile for Car Mode.
4. Place "DriveLink.apk" and "DriveLinkRemote.apk" on your external SD.
5. Browse to where you placed "DriveLink.apk" and "DriveLinkRemote.apk"
6. install the 2 apk.
7. Open up SQLite Editor
8. Select the Apps tab -> scroll down to Settings Storage and select
9. Click settings.db
10. Click system
11. Click search icon on top right (easiest method to filter) or scroll through db (harder way)
12. Type "notification" in the Filter Value field and press ok
13. Tap "notification_panel_active_app_list" -> select pencil icon on top to edit
14. In Value field, all enabled toggles are listed. Now, add the word "CarMode" (no spaces or quotation marks) to end of list (make sure to have NO SPACES between entries and semicolons separating each entry) (Note: I added a ";" at the end of CarMode as there was one already after the last tile in the list)
15. Once you add "CarMode", click save button.
16. Close SQLite editor and reboot
After reboot you should be able to activate car mode with the added quick setting tile (steering wheel).
NOTE: If car mode crashes at the main screen go to settings -> App Settings -> swipe over to all, scroll down to car mode and select it then click clear cache, clear data, force stop. then uninstall it. After it is uninstalled reboot the phone TWICE then re-install car mode and reboot. It should work after that.
Special thanks to RevelationOmega and ivanjong for doing all the real work!
I'm on basically stock, rooted, no busybox, no safestrap, no xposed.

I didn't get the button and the app didn't show up in my app drawer. it installed ok but nothing worked.

No app shows up in my drawer either, but the toggle opens it fine for me. Just to cover all bases: when you do the database edit for the button, make sure to type it with capital "c" and "m". It is case sensitive.
step 6: install the 2 apk's.
are you guys clicking the apk file and installing them or are you pushing them to /system/priv-app?
I was just installing them conventionally but I'm thinking that was the issue...
edit: I was messing up the list I was editing.
having problems?
For those having trouble just a few tips:
-You will not get an icon in your app drawer. The only way to launch the app is with the quick launch button unless you use an app for creating shortcuts maybe.
-When editing the database make sure you are editing the line notification_panel_active_app_list. There are other lines with very similar names. Also, make sure you enter the item as CarMode with a capital C and M with no space.
-You don't have to push the apps to the system folder they can be installed as user apps. Just click on them and install them as you would any other app. This is how it is set up on my phone.

Car Mode allows you to control certain functions of your phone with hands free voice commands. You can make and receive phone calls, listen, compose and respond to texts as well as control navigation and music. Car Mode brings up a simplified launcher with four large icons for phone, messages, navigation and music that are easy to control while driving if you choose to access these manually. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Hope this helped.

This great, all well explained but by searching for "DriveLink.apk" and "DriveLinkRemote.apk" on the route mentioned, can not find it, sorry but I am beginner in this, or if someone could give me the two apk, serious excellent, thank!!
Hi guys, I have an AT&T Galaxy S5 Active and as many other users I don't have the CarMode toggle in the notification bar either.
I followed all steps here to enable this icon in the notification bar, but unfortunately it partially worked.
First I had to download the 'DriveLink.apk" and "DriveLinkRemote.apk (from the link you provide on step two, post #19) as I didn't have them on my phone. After installing I modified the settings.db with SQLite Editor and added 'CarMode'. After rebooting the phone the toggle appears in the notification bar (which is a good thing), but when I press the icon there's an error message saying 'Unfortunately, car mode has stopped'. So, I did what you said if I found the app crashing: 'click clear cache, clear data, force stop. then uninstall it. After it is uninstalled reboot the phone TWICE then re-install car mode and reboot'. However, after doing all that it KEEPS crashing and giving me that message. It just takes me to the welcoming screen of the app, then I click next and when I agree with the terms of service and click next to keep going it crashes again!.
Any ideas or suggestions to SOLVE this issue???? Is it possible to enable car mode on the AT&T S5 Active???, or maybe I need to download different 'DriveLink.apk" and "DriveLinkRemote.apk files as the ones available on the other thread are meant for the S5 G900 only???.
Please, if anyone using an S5 Active did manage to enable CarMode it'd be greatly appreciated to share the way to do it
Thanks!
