The only way I know of to properly screw your phone is to flash an incompatible radio, but even then I'm not sure that HTC will replace it. First time I've come across someone who actually wants to bork their phone!

Downgrade to froyo. That will completely **** it.
Edit: HTC will probably replace the motherboard, almost as good as a new phone.

For what I known (at least in my country) phones are replaced with a new one if it has less than 7 or 14 days, after that they will repair your phone...
A myth through the web say that you could screw you phone by putting it in the micro-wave for a few seconds (obviously without battery); some people tell that it's detectable, others not, others say only if you cook for long time...

Thank you guys but I want more and exact suggestions by which HTC can replace my cell not only motherboard...I m from india.
Does anyone have an exact idea and yeah one more thing how to flash a radio.

I would be carefull because if you mess up your phone htc could say that it was caused by you when you got the marks on the case as they say you dropped it even if you didn't.

I don't think its worth the trouble, of you deliberately brick it, they will either not fix it, or maybe replace the motherboard.
Maybe you can take it somewhere to get the casing replaced? You can buy that sort of stuff in eBay

No point really if there's nothing actually wrong with the phone besides cosmetic. Post a pic of the damage?

Idk how Urs in India, but Herr in Austria they just repair if phone never fell hard on the Ground or Water. My little Brother bricked his Samsung Galaxy Ace s Motherboard by flashing another Recovery. And Samsung has given us a new phone, it was rooted.

Yeah, this is what happened to my IncS. It was little less than a month old when my wife dropped it on hard ground. The ambient light sensor went berserk, and the phone would restart every few minutes. Took it to a HTC center here in B'lore, and they gave me a new IncS In fact, I was given the choice to take any HTC phone for the same price.
Good luck if you decide on doing the same
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HTC IncS, now on MIUI. Was on Cyanogenmod, VirtuousQuattro RC3/4, and something else before that

so they didn't ask why the light sensor went bad ? i mean does HTC replace a handset if it is damaged due to human error or natural causes?

I never told them I dropped it But of course, unlike in your case, my phone did not have too many scratches on it. Very few, actually. The only apparent problem with it was the light sensor.

Bricked My Nexus - My Options?

So... long story short, I bricked my Nexus One. There is no LED while charging and the phone doesn't boot. I figured if I replace the motherboard, the phone will start functioning again.
From my understanding, HTC charges $196 to replace this piece, which is quite expensive considering I paid $175 for this Nexus. But I found a part on eBay which I think is the motherboard, but I want to make sure before I purchase it.
Attached is the link:

I would appreciate if anybody can confirm that this is the motherboard and if it will resurrect my phone.

Do you know where I can source the motherboard?
I might try buzzing HTC tomorrow for a warranty repair (or swap) for a different issue with the phone. Maybe I can escalate it to the proper person if they give me any problems.
I have searched almost everywhere for it; and it's nowhere to be found.
My options remain:
1) Hope HTC replaces my Nexus for another issue
2) Have HTC replace my motherboard for $196
3) Replace it myself, assuming I can source one
4) JTAG it back to life
5) Sell it in its current state
Do you mind sharing the story of how you bricked it? I'm really interested.

I unrooted the phone and started proceeding with the respective steps. I just flashed CW recovery and was using it to flash gapps, CM, and a radio image. I then rebooted the phone, but it never turned on.
Now, I have a beautiful non-functioning Nexus One! Does not boot at all, no LED when hooking up to A/C, nothing...

Well I read the article long ago and don't remember exactly what the name of it is. But one hacker used his usb cable to trick his nexus one to wake up and it was successful.

Update: I called HTC and mentioned a completely unrelated issue, which was a small speck of dust under the screen. I chose the swap option and didn't mention the phone didn't turn on, or was bricked. I just checked the tracking update and it says "service is completed." Checked my card; nothing was charged.
GO HTC! They are the absolute best!
u probably bricked it with the radio update.. did you check the MD5 checksum before u flashed it? And was it even a proper Radio?
You need to be very careful while flashing a radio... it's like flashing a BIOS on a PC.
You should flash it through fastboot and not recovery, it's safer.
Just so you know when you try to do it again.

[Q] replacing motherboard (will I need to re-root?)

You can replace a motherboard but can't handle root?
replacing the motherbord shouldnt affect the actual software so yes im pretty sure you will still be rooted.
to be honest though i would just get a new phone because i know motheboards arnt cheap.
well, I did get a new phone a while ago. got the evo 4g. but this hero just keeps bugging me, so kind of more for fun, I want to give this a go. I already ordered the motherboard on ebay. 30 bucks plus shipping. I saw a video on youtube and replacing it looks fairly simple. It is going to take a couple of weeks for it to get here, but will post back and let you know how it turns out.

No, you will need to root again. The android software is stored of the motherboard. So putting in a new one will be like getting a new phone, minus new parts on the outside.
If the motherboard you bought is used, then whatever the previous user had on it, then that's what you would find. Hope this helps.

ha proved me wrong lol. either way rooting shouldnt be a problem just z4 that bad boy and itll be up and running in no time
ah, that makes sense now. well it is a new motherboard. found two sellers on ebay both of which have a small supply for 30 bucks each. okay so I start over once I have it. many thanks
I know it has been a while, but just to finalize, got this hero working like a charm. changing the mother board was the easy part. the trick was finding the right sprint store that would get msl code and make everything match up between the new mother board and the phone. they have to actually change codes in their data base or you will not get service.
Damn, you should have asked -- I have a couple extra heroes from friends who move on.
wow, thanks. You know it was one of those things that you brake and get some redemption when you fix it.

Hope for a Bricked Vivid ?? { Discussions of Possible Solutions }

Hello Guys,
I recently PICKED up a DEAD VIVID from a fellow XDA'r for a really cheap price hoping I can UNBRICK it and use it
As I have understood , This phone was bricked during the ICS update Process. Looks like the Original Owner did not know what he was doing LOL,
The phone should be here in a WEEK
Can anypone shed any light on how this can be fixed and what are the possible options ?
JTAG ??? HTC service
I live in INDIA BTW
bump....
Hope I wasn't a Idiot to buy a bricked VIVID ??
I don't think any solution has been found so far. If you hadn't already known, our vivid section is really small with not a ton of development going on. The people that couldn't follow directions were sort of left in the dust, and I don't know of anyone working on a fix for the bricks.

If you can get into Qualcomm dload mode, you should still have a shot at fixing it. If it literally can't get into dload mode, does not boot into fastboot, or any other possible method of pushing files to the phone, then yes, it is bricked. You will have to find a way to use JTAG or send it to an HTC service center.
Thank you all !!!!! hoping for RIFF box to work
I started a similar thread.....I also have a bricked Vivid.....I have been able to get mine to be recognized by QPST on com6 in phone download mode.....the question is, what do I do now? QPST seems to be pretty straight forward, but I have no idea where to find the necessary files to flash the phone. Any ideas?

I haven't been able to find any .hex files for our device. Tried opening the various .img files extracted from the PH39IMG.zip in a hex editor and saving them as .hex files but QPST returns an error. I don't have any experience in hex editing, but I know I can't brick the phone any worse. My g/f has went back to an HTC Inspire so I am going to keep this hope alive as a side project.

Whether this guy who bricked his phone was a NOOB, isnt really an issue now is it? Nor if he is one of the ones whom ticked off PG.. I bricked my Vivid, and 1) I'm not a NOOB. 2) I followed Directions to the letter ... did everything right and it still bricked.. but i had insurance through BestBuy , sent it in and got a new phone 2 days later.. re-tried the same steps i did before which bricked my phone, and it went through without a hitch... We arent here to judge people nor start up another thread which can potentially lead to another mass exodus from XDA

Finally, i got hard bricked...

Hello. Sorry for my english.
I've been living on the edge, like many of us LOL, and i finally got hard bricked. No battery charge, logo, download mode. Nothing. Just a black screen.
I was using ICS stunner 1.4.26 and decided to flash Catastrophic Meltdown 9 (CM9 for friends). The problems was that my battery died when it was installing the kernel, or the boot, i dont know.
So, i have been reading a lot those days but nothing seems to work. I have ordered a Jig but i think is not going to work. Yesterday i used windows, and something was detected when i plugged in the usb, but Odin not.Today it does not work, and windows doesnt play any sound. Any idea? A Jag?
I should say this is the best mobile phone i have ever touched. I would be eternal grateful with all of you if we could fix this mess. I was aware that there were risks. Im aware now maybe i cant fixit and im not gonna blame anyone because it was my responsability, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Same thing happened to me, nothing worked (tried the JIG). I had to send it in for repair, but they didn't see that it was my fault (still had warranty).

From my experience the only way u can get ur phone back in service is go to ssc and make some reasonable reason why ur phone is dead, so u can still claim for warranty and I am sure they will replace ur engine/mobo like my friends did a month ago.

It has nothing to do with your battery dying and everything with trying to flash CM9 directly from super-dangerous LP5 or LP6 leak ICS kernel.
No jig or JTag will revive your phone now.
However, if your Note refuses to go into download or recovery mode, you are in luck - if you have a warranty, that is. Just take your phone to the service center and tell them that it died when updating via Kies. There is no way for them to tell what had really happened and they will have to replace your motherboard free of charge.
Sadly, jig didnt solve the problem. Battery isnt hot when plugged in, is my motherboard fried by flashing the note?
Could a jtag solve the problem?
Try to take it back in for warranty before attempting a JTAG and voiding the warranty (that they can tell)

They were unable to find the exact reason why it got bricked as it was unable to enter download or recovery mode
So they replaced the motherboard under warrenty
Better this it once
All the best :good:

Should i trade?

I already posted this in the nexus forum. I just want to get an opinion from both sides...
I currently have the HTC One m7 on tmobile with a completely blown speaker on the top so both external sound and call sounds are ruined. I unlocked the boot loader and actually dropped it one time so there is a tiny bit of damage on the bezel, so i assume neither t mobile or htc will honor any kind of warranty. I put it up on craigslist and a guy is offering to trade me for a mint condition nexus 4 with a few cases. Should i do it?

I have had horrible luck in the past on warrenty claims with t mobile, it made me not even want to call them. I sent htc an email and they basically said they cant help me, wouldn't even say if they could repair if i paid for it. No shops around want to touch the phone, and the cant even obtain parts. Oh and the best part is that i cant even call them with a blown speaker

I have had AT&T honor warranty even with a Relocked bootloader. If the unit is with in one year...so it still has manufacturers warranty. I dropped but always had a Trident or Otter box case so no visible damage. If you can restore the stock recovery, relock, etc...you can try HTC or T Mobile. I also searched the forums and found a way to make the screen show Locked Vs Relocked. You will have to search that. Hate to see you lose the One without trying first..then if they wont help you..do the deal as a Nexus 4 is not up to the Specs ofnthe ONE but it is Free of carrier b.s., right ? i assume it is the unit you buy from Google directly? I purposely went with the HTC ONE Developer Edition so I would have unlocked bootloader without any Carrier Restrictions...

Blown speaker is not covered? Why can't you flash stock and send for repair?

Agree, flash back to stock recovery, rom, relock...wipe sd card with any superUser (root) files and send it in, many have had warranty honored this way...it just depends what is broken or defective...the only issue is the physical damage that they could claim caused the speaker damage..? Don't know till ya try...
It really bad luck. But a blown speaker should be covered. I'd keep hassling them. With the phone so new, I wouldn't give up.

Yeah the only problem with that is that i cant find the stock recovery for the tmobile version. If i could get the recovery back and remove tampered from fastboot, i would totally be comfortable taking it in.
