Weird s-pen issue! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My spen is acting up, I lost my original and bought an official replacement, now my spen draws without even touching the screen. I'm on rocket rom v19.
Anyone else experiencing the same?
Thanks Ben.

Thats a well known fault.
You pen is broken and you have to replace him.
The lower right corner is the worst area on the screen where this happens.

Even i am facing a similar situation, the screen detects and starts writing even when my s pen is hovering half an inch above the screen. The Samsung people are replacing the S pen, hopefully that will resolve the issue otherwise somebody gonna get very angry..

Help - screen shaking when touched!

My phone has been working perfectly with JM5 & samset v1.9f with CFlag fix v1.80.
Then the other day I noticed the screen was shaking slightly when I held my finger on the screen, as if it couldn't locate where my finger was correctly. Also it shakes alot more severely while it's charging.
Has anyone heard of this problem before? Could it be a software fault that reflashing firmware will fix, or is it a hardware fault.
Please help!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
it's called haptic feedback
it's on by default, you can turn it off from Settings
is that what you mean? or it's something else?
Maybe it's the touch point itself which doesn't register correctly.
Are you using an aftermarket (non-Samsung) charger? I remember reading about someone else having trouble with the touchscreen going bonkers while he was charging the phone on a non-standard charger, which for a capacitive touchscreen might indicate some kind of electrical grounding issue, (edit: or maybe not (link)).
edit: Maybe you can try discharging the screen by wiping it with a soft cloth used for cleaning vinyl records.
I have only ever used the charger that came with the phone, and the usb that came with it to attach it to my laptop.
The problem still exists while it's not charging, it's just alot less severe.
I'm going to have to flash it to stock firmware and hope that fixes it. If not I'll have to send it out to be repaired.
I hate phones sometimes......
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I should also add my screen is perfectly responsive, there are no dead zones.
It's as if the touch screen can't tell which part of my finger is touching the screen. For example; If I put my finger flat on the screen rather than the tip of my finger, it shakes alot more.

Thanks for your help, I read the link you posted, very helpful. Maybe the charger was faulty and that damaged my phone overnight?
I tried the charger at someone elses house and the increased screen shaking still occurred. But if I connect it to my laptop by usb, it reacts the same as when it's unplugged.
I will try wiping the screen with a vinyl cloth when I get home. It has got a screen protector on, but I can't imagine that affecting it.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
definitely not the screen protector
i have one installed, and i don't experience those screen shakes you described.
I found this interesting thread about someone having very simular issues: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/te...tions/31237-please-help-droid-has-shakes.html
It hasn't helped in solving the problem, but at least I know I'm not alone with this issue.
Edit
After reading the post more carefully, it seems that this persons issue somehow fixed itself.
Perhaps the best thing to do is check if this issue is covered by warranty (so I can send it to be fixed at a later date if problem is still there) & see if mine fixes itself too...

i used to experience this on my HD2 and Milestone, i must say that the galaxy S'es touch sensor is one of the best and have very seldom experienced this problem.

Yes my problem is simular to that, but it's only that bad when it's charging from the mains.
I'm going to flash to stock firmware tonight. If that doesn't sort it I'll take it to a t-mobile shop & see what they suggest.
Apparently I've got 2 years warranty so if it gets worse rather than 'fixing itself' I can always send it to be repaired. I just don't want them to give me a refurbished one, knowing my luck it will be full of dead pixels...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Sounds like something interfering with the contact between your finger and the screen, or faulty hardware. ( Screen protector, wet fingers. )
If you are reproducing increased troubles with charger than it may very well be faulty hardware.
I can also attest to the high quality of the Galaxy S's touch screen, it can track 5 points very accurately.
It's not the screen protector as it was working fine with it before Tuesday, when the problem started.
I'm going to flash the firmware tomorrow when I have time, if that doesn't fix it then it must be hardware. I'll report back.

Intersting...
Ok, I flashed JF3 and the problem was still present.
I went to a local T-Mobile shop & showed them the problem. They basically said the phone still functions correctly, and recommended to stick with it and possibly get it repaired if it gets worse at a later date, which I fully agree with as I could get a refurbished phone in a worse state.
I reinstalled JM5, samset v1.9f, and used the update.zip ext4 instead of Cflag fix. I notice for some reason the problem seems less severe, but that might just be imagining it.
Thanks to everyone who helped.

I'd take it to an official samsung service point. There's no way a phone salesman would have a friggin clue about whether or not that's safe. It might make your battery explode and blow your nuts off if theres some shortcircuit in the phone or something...

i solve this problem

I am using a HD2 and I noticed this problem when the phone is plugged in with a laptop. With Wall Charger, it works fine.
open up
i had the same problem with another phone. i tried everything. after that i just turned phone off, get all screws out of the back side. i pressed all connectors and after that put the plastic on it, turn the screws back in and restarted my phone. now i never got the problem anymore
NOTE: if youre not sure about what youre doing, ask somebody who know he can!

Very BAD screen issues

So for some reason, my screen keeps recognizing clicks that i don't do. In another way, it clicks on itself. I can leave it on the table with the screen on and by itself, it will make a phone call, or open an app or something. It only clicks on stuff that are in the bottom 1/5th of the screen. Its on every rom, not just the midnote 2.0 that i am using.
Anyone have a solution?
Sounds like a display issue. have u recently sat on it or maybe applying pressure to that part of the screen? or it may be cause by magnets on cases etc....not really sure if it can be fixed unless u replace the whole screen entirely...
Same screen issue!
My Galaxy Note just started doing this as well. Mine is on a stock rom, and I've tried a factory reset and it hasn't helped. I'm wondering if there's some sort of screen diagnostics out there that can help identify the issue. The problem is intermittent, but sometimes when it gets going its just click after click after click on the same spot...
Nope I haven't sat on it. Do you think Samsung would fix it under the two year warranty?

After the factory wipe and reset do you check to see what applications are running? Do you have absolutely no other apps that have been installed?
There have been some early warnings of virus being written for android so I have used an antivirus program for last eight weeks and never had a problem - perhaps you have an unwelcome visitor?
Otherwise definitely go for a replacement, especially if the phone is only a few weeks old.
I use an antivirus app that I downloaded from the market a little while ago. I ran a scan with it and there is nothing wrong so I guess that my best bet would be to get a replacement. Will Samsung replace it even though I am in the us?

[Q] Z1 screen skipping

I noticed that every once in a while, the touchscreen on my Z1 "skips". i.e., if I draw a straight line with my finger, it will actually come out as a few short lines with a break between them.
I notice it most in the pattern unlock screen. I will draw my pattern, but it will connect 2 dots, jump, connect another 2 dots, jump again, until I get the pattern wrong error, and in the second attempt everything is fine.
Has anyone else experienced that?

This happens every once in a while for me while using Swype keyboard. I thought it was a Swype issue, but if you're having this then maybe it's the phone. Haven't noticed it anywhere else but haven't tested.

I have this problem too... I tested it with "touch test", and confirmed my suspicion...

I've run into something like this when trying to pull up the pie menu. Normally, sliding up onto the screen from below will trigger the pie menu to pop up (similar to the default "google now" trigger gesture). Every once in a while it'll instead register as a number of taps on whatever is already on that area of the screen (thus triggering some untended action or link most of the time). Of course it won't happen when I'm trying to reproduce it or running some kind of test, but when I least expect it, it happens again.
To verify this issue you can also try going to: Settings, About Phone (last entry on the bottom), Diagnostics, Test Device, Touchscreen.
If the recorded line really does skip you should contact your reseller/ Sony.
If it is just an occasional error it might be Software and not Hardware related. I have not had this problem yet, though.
Oh finally so it's not me alone. Great phone but this single problem lets it down. I'm suspecting a lot ppl have it and dont realise. Not everyone uses swype keyb or swype pattern unlock.
My suspicion is the sony screen protector fitted at factory. Tempted to rip it off.

Hmm strange my phone's been having fur over a day now. I removed the screen protector that came supplied in the box and found the problem still existed. Now I've got a real cheapy one on and swyping has been real good.

Hey guys I'm having the same problem, too! Which firmware version were you guys using? Because I think the newest firmware .257 has problems has touch I will try to revert to .524 and update you guys later
EDIT : Okay, I have just went back to 524 firmware to test and I can confirm that the problem still persists.
No problem here, maybe it's related to screen protector?
Ok now

Hi, is your problem fixed? havent tried changing my screen guard.
Nope not really even though I was convinced at first. Problem comes and goes randomly.
My real issue is using Swype and it's driving me mad. As a workaround if I use my thumb it works fine. Must be the amount of surface contact while I swype.

Please see this video

Probably it is a cause of a hardware issue.

So is hardware problem and will never be fixed?
For few weeks I never saw that problem on mine so I was not worry about it but today I tested few nice games and I realized that after a minute playing the game (Minimotor or HAWX) the virtual joystick stopping working. I have to retouch the joystick with my hand or take off my hand from the phone. All the time.
This is bad, so the Flagship Device is comming to be a Crap Device.

Z1S (tmo), swype problems

I did the diagnostics with the touch screen, and turned out ok, but sometimes I get swype issues that are similar to the touchscreen problem on older Z1's-- you can see the swype drag line break up and I get garbage (2-3 letter) words onto my text fields. If I change hand positions/put the phone down, and retry--swype works fine. Anyone else having similar issues?

..the only FW which can fix this problem is .136. Reported it does, but always can be the exception.

agree! after flashing .136, problem is still there.
i have already highlight this issue to a sony rep at their forum few days ago. he have already escalated this issue.
Trying to hit the store tomorrow.... But I can't reproduce the error consistently, but I have gotten it to fail on the touchscreen test mainly on the lower half of the screen. And every time, if I reposition my hand, it fixes itself. I do notice more dust on the screen when it has problems.
Makes me think the screen is too sensitive in certain cases (dust, fingerprints,??) , or considering this problem started after I got a very, very fine scratch near the top of the screen....i.e. a scratch on the anti shatter film is creating some problem. I'm getting a zagg screen protector but it would be nice if Sony offered a replacement film.

S-pen issues

Hello,
I have been noticing that my s-pen sticks/freezes sometimes. Hard to explain, but im going to try. Lets say I am swiping to type a message, once i take the s-pen off the screen, it continues to swipe the keyboard unless i move it even further from the phone. Same happens when i browse the web, sometimes the spen keeps scrolling the webpage even if i am not touching the screen but. I have air view option turned off.
has anyone experienced anything similar?
Thanks
Anyone?

A few weeks. It doesn't always happen, maybe once or twice a week
So i got a new s-pen and the issue is still there. Called samsung and they expect me to mail my phone to them for repairs, which will take 2 weeks. Then the representative just hangs up. what a bull
Here is a video of the issue

I had a simmilar issue with my note 7, the s pen was the culprit, bought another and problem solved, if you got another s pen and the problem is still there, then warranty claim is a must

Update, I sent the of time for you repairs to a Samsung facility in Texas. They did a good job not damaging the phone. So far everything works great, but I had the phone for less than 24hrs. I'll update the thread in a few days
Any update? I also sent my phone in for repair of a similar issue and when I got it back, it seems like nothing was fixed. Samsung wrote that they "replaced cosmetic" whatever that means?
So far my phone seems to be working just fine. Samsung replaced the screen and the s pen. I also wrote a note with a link to a video of the issue when I sent in the phone
started doing the same thing a few months ago. Initially if happened every few weeks but became more common as time passed. Finally sent the phone to Samsung again. Received an email from them today with findings.
Problem found:
AUTO REBOOT ON POWER OFF
Solution:
REPLACED PBA
So looks like they replaced the motherboard or components of it.
