[Q] Black Buzz Brick? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have done something incredibly stupid: Executing this command
heimdall flash --factoryfs factoryfs.rfs --cache cache.rfs --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin --param param.lfs --kernel zImage --modem modem.bin
from a directory containing P1000 files while my i9000 was connected...
Now the i9000 will not display anything at all, pure black screen all the time. No logo, no error, no icon, no boot, no recovery, no download, no charging.
3-button combo does not do anything besides a very faint, short buzz. Same happens when pressing Vol UP+Vol DOWN and then inserting the battery.
Is there any solution besides soldering on the mainbord?

Odin recognize the phone?
Then try this:
Start ODIN, load all files; PIT, PDA, PHONE & CSC. Check Re-Partition.
Boot your phone into download modus (hold 3 button combo for downlaod min. 5 sec.) even if it is black and connect to usb. Then press Start.
Good luck!
Sorry for my bad English

Odin I haven't tried.
Heimdall does not detect any compatible device.
I'll try to get some windows computer to check with Odin.

So Heimdall shows this:
heimdall version
v1.3.1
heimdall detect
Failed to detect compatible download-mode device.

Sometimes Heimdall have USB driver problems.
Try it with odin and windows.

Odin does not show anything.
Plugging in the phone via USB to a Windows computer does not prompt any device driver installation.
Kies does not recognize the phone when it's plugged in.

That is exactly why we shoul not mess with Boot Sector.. Well wot about the battery status ? Is it charged ?

Yes, I agree. Let it be a warning .
It should be charged, yes, since it was connected to USB for a long time. But it does not show anything, not even a charging battery while connected.

Download mode workin ?

No, no download, no recovery, no logo, nothing. 3 button combo does not work.
Best it does is display a very black screen.
Also tried a Kies 'diagnose connection errors'. This, of course, does not help a bit either.

Have you install kies on windows befor you start odin? Odin needs the USB Driver from Samsungs Kies.
The last solution is the servicepoint.

Now do one thing Try to put it in d download mode by pullin out the battery and vol down mode(weather it shows d triangle logo or not).. After 1 minute connect it with odin and see if odin detects.. Your second Last hope

i think u can ask in forum how can do that for you.

Black brick
I guess I ruined my I9000, black screen, no charging .
With a jig plug it goes into download mode, but windows does not find a driver for this USB device. So Odin can not find a device.
Any idea how to get connection to the phone???

Pulled out the battery, connected USB, pressed Vol DOWN, inserted the battery.
Only thing that happens is the slight 'buzz' the phone gives. Nothing else.
And unfortunately Odin doesn't detect anything.
Well, something happens. After some time, the phone is quite warm. So it's not only a black screen, it's also a little heater.

Sounds mighty similar. Your phone does not display anything either? No logo, nothing?
If so, maybe I could try a JIG as well before shipping my phone to some phone shop..

Have u install Samsung Kies? Odin and Windows need the driver from Kies.
when it is installed reinstall it.

I've also done a lsusb from Linux, it just doesn't show ANYthing from the phone.

Then try it with a jig. Maybe you have luck and it works.

u may probably hav to fix your three button download mode by flashing new SBL.bin files but its highly complicated and may cause a thermonuclear war so d easy way is that u can use terminal emulator on ur cel nd enter a command for downlaod or recovery modes

Big problem. Suddenly my phone will not turn on. Sits at the white Galaxy S GT-I9000 screen and does not boot. When I put it into download mode and plug it into computer, its suddenly saying "USB Device Not Recognized".
What do I do? PC won't recognize it, it wont boot. can't flash it.....I'm freaking out here...
Did you flash anything to it or root it?

Hi Rick. Try to re-install samsung usb drivers. during this time, take out the battery from the phone. once finished installing the drivers, put back the battery into the phone. Go into downloading mode. Fire up odin, put in the necessary firmwares + pit files. Once done, then CONNECT your phone to the usb port of your computer.
Hope it's okay.
Edit: Let's hope that it is the computer usb drivers are corrupted. Alterntively, if you still can't do it, try it on another pc.
Nope. I was rebooting it to flash XXJPC to it, but couldnt do so because it was saying that USB message and wouldnt detect it. So I went into recovery, did a factory reset, and now it wont boot.
Another computer does the same thing *tears*
*BUMP*
Lets try a different route. I will pay a generous sum of money to anyone who offers to and does manage to fix this for me?
rick, looking at this, if your usb is not recognised, it is either the pc or the phone usb port might be damaged.
if it is a hardware issue, then use the bounty to get it fix.
I was at that same point with my vibrant. After failed attempts of getting into download mode using buttons, here's what I did.
Download and install samsung usb drivers and android sdk.
Plug into the computer and use adb to get into download mode (adb reboot download).
Then flash with odin.
Doing that worked for me when nothing else would. Try it ?

I can get into download mode just fine.....my pc just doesnt recognize the usb device. tried 3 differente pc's, 2 running win7 and one running xp.
Did you install usb drivers on each of the machines?

I installed the samsung USB driver executable. and I also tried to use those drivers that it installs to manually update the "unknown USB device" in device manager, but they won't take.
Try uninstalling all drivers, then stick a MicroSD in your phone before plugging it into the usb.
Assuming you have Samsung Kies in your PC, try to upgrade it at 1.5.1.10074_45.
How long do you wait the boot?? The first boot after flash is very long, wait at least 5 minutes with flashing "S".
I did not just flash anything. My phone got really hot and laggy (as I was using it while charging it via USB port) and so I rebooted phone in an attempt to resolve the lag. when I did, it would not go past the WHITE Samsung Galaxy S I9000 screen, does not get to the flashing S screen.

if i understood you correctly, you have two separate problems:
a) your phone does not boot up
b) your phone is not recognized by any computer when plugged in
could be a coincidence, but probably is not. i'm guessing your bootloader got screwed up somehow. if it is a coincidence, it could be that your usb port on the phone is effed, or your usb cable is dead. try first using a different cable and see if your phone can be recognized by any computer. perhaps then you can go into download mode and reflash.
also, have a look at this post, might help you (although, if your usb is effed, there's not much point in trying any solution that involves your phone being connected to a computer): http://androidforums.com/780720-post3.html
EDIT: also, have your tried the obvious stuff, like pulling battery?
I ve seen many threads with the white screen problem ... it has in most cases been the drivers ... you desinstall all drivers from pc using Kies option for resinstall the drivers ... then you pull the battery off few sec (give it a min or two) then you get to download mode and you flash the beast ... dont connect your phone before launching odin or else it will not be recognized ...
for the few other people who didn't manage to fix it ... it was a hardware failure
That post you linked, is worth a try. But its for a motorola.....Where do I get my SGS bootloader to use instead?
ohh you were implying to try to use the motorola usb drivers?

I never said anything about a white screen. and I am not uneducated on flashing SGS, or using Odin. Far from it. My phone was first showing USB symbol when it wasnt plugged into USB port, then phone started running really hot while charging and got really bloated like it was overheating. So I rebooted and its now force closing at the first boot animation. I can get into download mode and recovery, but will not recognize in any of the 3 computers all running different versions of windows on them, with either of my USB cables that I tried.

[Resolved] Can't access device via Heimdall

Hello all,
The past day or so I have been attempting to install a fresh custom rom on my vzw tablet. I presently have a stock copy of DJ11 that is rooted installed.
When I put the device into download mode and connect to the computer, Heimdall (version 1.1.1) gives me the following error
Failed to access device. Error: -12
I have tried reinstalling the drivers, both off of the tablet and from the ZAdiag program included with Heimdall and the error persists. I have tried many different combinations of opening/closing heimdall/disconnecting and reconnecting the tablet while in download and out of download, and I have tried on two different PCs. Nothing seems to fix the problem.
I have seen another post on the forums about this particular issue, but the method of resolution that user was able to make work has not worked for me.
It seems to me that the tablet itself is to blame, like it is locking Heimdall out.
Basically at this point, any rom that requires use of Heimdall to install is not going to work. I do have CWM3 and the Verizon Bootstrapper installed, so if anyone has a link to a completely stock copy of the rom that comes in a zip, please link it as I would like to try that method of installing a new rom.
Thank you for any insight at all!!
Have you checked with odin to make sure the tablet is not connecting?
I had the same problem and pluged the device in another usb port, then hold power, volume down e home and after a while odin showed the yellow bar.
then disconnected it and put in another usb port, after that heimdall found it.
and to mention my tablet was dead, no screen no donwload mode, and not responding to button press. and still i was able to connect and ressurect it doing this.
Thanks for the good idea! When I connect it with Odin open, I get the yellow bar. I think that Heimdall is connecting as well, it just isn't being allowed to make any changes. Access denied is my suspicion. I'm not sure what would cause that, or how to correct it.

I am pleased to report that I was able to find a solution. With Odin running, I was getting a yellow bar indicating the device was connected. I ran Heimdall while Odin was still open...and voila, it worked without a hitch.
Thanks again for the assistance. Keep this one tucked away in your memory in case you ever experience something similar!
You can also update the USB drivers through Heimdall like the instructions say.... Might be a safer way than to have ODIN open too...
You just need to downgrade the usb drivers after using Heimdall to use ODIN again...

Captivate stuck on phone-!-computer screen, even with jig

So I was flashing a stock rom from Odin, and Odin froze, so I unplugged the phone and took out the battery. Now, when I try to get into download mode, all I get is a screen with a phone-!-computer. Even with a usb jig, it just goes to this screen. My captivate is also not recognized by the computer when I plug it in when its on the phone-!-computer screen.

But I don't see the Libusb tab in device manager when I plug my phone in.
When u initially installed the drivers for Heimdall, they only installed to the usb port that u were connected to. So u need to be plugged into that specific port and then u should see it in the Device Manager.
And u really don't need to uninstall the drivers that u need for Heimdall, as long as u installed them after u installed the drivers from Kies. See this post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19998299&postcount=115
And if u have tried everything in the Stickied thread--Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help to no avail, then ??

Yep I made a jig and it works but it doesn't go to the downloading screen with the shovel instead it just goes to the screen with the phone exclamation computer.
Then try this...may sound odd but anyway--just pull ur battery and leave it out for 5 minutes or so and then put it back in and try getting back into download mode and see what happens.
Btw, which stock odin were u trying that got u in this mess ?

What did you try before it was recognized? Did you just plug and replug the usb into the computer until it worked?
Mine did this before, when I accidently forgot to convert back to RFS before flashing back to stock, and I thought I was totally screwed. After this screen comes up the first time it will not go away, even if a download jig is used, until you get a good flash.
Try this:
Open your Odin, and have it ready with whatever you were trying to flash to begin with. Pull the battery on your phone, put your download jig in, and now put your battery in. It will still be the error screen that comes up. Pull your jig, and now plug your phone in. It should show on Odin now, and this flash should take correctly.
---------- Post added at 01:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:50 AM ----------
Also make sure the USB port you are using is a direct link to your board. I always use one of the original USB 2 ports on the back of my computer. Not using a USB hub either, but straight from the port to your phone.

[Q] Cm bootloops, odin dont detect phone

Hello guys.
I got a galaxy s (GT-I9000) from someone, so don't know what theyve been doing with it. Anyway, when I try to turn the phone ON, either it goes to the cyanogen mod splashscreen and reboots, and does that on a loop. Or it simply doesnt turn on. I cannot get into recovery mode, however I can get into download mode. I usually have to pull the battery a few times before I can either turn it on or get into download mode. Yesterday, when I plugged it in USB while OFF, no indication of charging (atleast visual) on screen was visible. Today, I plugged it in USB while phone was OFF and the battery indicator is seen, but battery si empty and only white "cirsle" is on middle, doing nothing. It stays that way for about 20-30 seconds, then the screen goes black, and only the white circle thingy is seen for a few seconds, then goes back to battery with that circle.
Anyway, when I got it in download mode a few times, I tried to plug it in PC to do something with ODIN, but it doesnt detect it. Windows says "USB Device Not Recognized" with the yellow triangle. I searched threads here and on google, and tried all I could think of.
So, I tried to reinstall drivers atleast 3 times, rebooting the PC in the process, cleaning the registry each time. Tried all of my 6 USB ports on PC. Tried 2 USB cables.
I had a galaxy s before, and setup on my PC was fine (so the drivers, cables, usb ports) were all OK, I could use odin and all. Thats why I dont think the problem is on my PC, or I must be missing something.
I have win7 x64 for the record.
I would just like to get this phone to work, any suggestions?

as far as I know
I will probobly try to get phone recognized by odin on a win XP pc today or tommo. IF that wont work, I read about something that JTAG could help me.. Can anyone confirm?
I'm having exactly the same problem actually. My son's S1 was running an old version of DarkyROM (back from when it was mine) and it got a bit messy so I decided to run it up to a CM9 nightly. Ran the Heimdall stuff as per instruction, got CM9 up and running but hosed it when I tried to flash the Google Apps package. From thereonin, formats and clearing everything leaves it upbootable but recovery and download are easily accessible. Odin just doesn't see it though.
Cause?
---------- Post added at 02:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:45 PM ----------
Oh yes, I might add that I can still mount by USB and upload ROMs etc. however trying to reinstall CM9 now gives me a Status 7 error and kicks me out. Grr.
---------- Post added at 03:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:46 PM ----------
Possibly solved. Go here:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/41704-cant-install-cwm-recovery-on-my-rooted-galaxy-s2/
Heimdall seems a little picky, so if it throws up an error when everything seems fine then run zadig.exe in the /drivers folder of the Heimdall install, Options > List All Drivers, select Samsung USB Composite device in the dropdown and Install/Replace the driver. Do this in download mode. Then use the Heimdall frontend to push the stock ROM to your phone as per that link.
Yep. Just checked. Phone now booting. Give me a shout and I'll help you do exactly what I did.
I can now confirm that the PC setup, drivers, cable and pc usb ports are all fine. Had another GT-I9000 from a friend and odin connected instantly, could flash stuff no problem.
So on my GT-I9000 something else must be the problem. Can anyone give me another option or is the JTAG my only option?
So when I turn the phone ON, "GALAXY S CyanogenMod" appears and loops... I cant get into recovery using VOL+ ; power ; menu (or any other button combo, must have tried everything) but I can get into download using VOL- ; power ; menu... But if I connect phone to PC, odin dont see it and windows says "USB Device Not Recognized".
I've heard of people getting connected with nexus drivers, who knows what was on the phone before right.?
Sent from my I9000 running JW5 with Dmore3.3 and Semaphore 2.7.4
When you press volume down + Home button + power on then you get the Download screen on the phone. However, that does not allow Odin to detect the phone and make the COM box turn yellow. You also need to press the volume up in order to activate the Download mode and turn the COM box yellow.
OKAY I have an update!!
I sent the phone to be JTAG(ged). I have no idea what they did, but the phone boots up now! I can use it normal, I can go to stock recovery or to download mode.
However, I have a new problem now. I cant connect the phone to PC with usb cable, it doesnt detect it. The phone makes the "sound" when I connect the usb cable, battery icon gets that electricity power icon, so it chatges, but on windows I get "USB device not recognized" with yellow triangle.
I tried it with USB debugging on AND off, I tried all 3 modes in usb settings (mass storage, kies, media player) and always same result.
Tried to connect while in download mode, even pressed volume up while connected (once tried to hold vol up, made no difference). Odin dont detect it, and windows says "USB device not recognized" with yellow triangle.
What could be the issue here? What else can I try? I will point out that PC setup should be fine (tried another I9000 from a friend worked no problem) but just in case, I will uninstall drivers, wipe registry, install new drivers, try every usb port and 2 usb cables to try to get it connected.
Any ideas?

When you say Odin doesn't see the phone, I presume you had put the phone into download mode?
the phone doesnt register in odin or with my computer. i need to know how to make my computer see the phone so i can use odin to fix it.

For the second time, did you put the phone into download mode? Odin isn't going to "see" it if it isn't in download mode.
I go into download mode and odin doesn't see. my computer doesn't recognize the phone at all. I want to know how to get computer to recognize that phone is connected so I can run odin or hard push file to phone.

Like @cwhiatt is saying, are you certain you're in download mode - by pressing and holding volume down + home + power? If you're in TWRP, that's recovery mode, not download. Just want to make sure that's not the issue here.
In download mode there should be a blue/green screen that says "Downloading... Do not turn off target".

Have you tried other cables? Other ports? Other computers?
some usb cables are for power only while others do data if it has just a lightning bolt on it, that's a charger if it has the universal usb logo that's data cable.
Your problem is fixed ?
