So i am planning on rooting my note at some point soon but before i do i was wondering if there are any roms on rom manager yet and if there are which ones. I just find it a lot simpler then having to manually flash all the time

I think ROM manager is not compatible with the Note. It is not a supported device.

You'll find out that you will have to flash manually a lot, because not all Roms have the same flashing sequence, and no flash manager can cover all the options.
I'd never want to give up manual flashing myself, because it's such fun (don't ask me why, though).

I am new to Android and just got a Captivate. I understand its pretty glitchy with the Samsung software and am wondering about a couple of things:
1. I hear a lot about rooting. What does this actually do for me? Is this loading a new Rom? Or are those two seperate things?
2. Which is the best software Rom to load on it with the best performance and least glitches? Is getting stock 2.2 Froyo on it an option or does it have to have the TouchWiz interface?
3. Whats the easiest way to load it?
4. Can I save the stock Samsung ROM in case I need to return and replace my captivate (warranty)?

1. Rooting gives you superuser permissions. Read about it on this site.
2. Since you obviously didnt read the site I'd suggest loading Cognition. Beyond that I'd suggest any of the roms you can read about on the site.
3. If you go to cognition you can read about how to install with odin from his ponack website. Just click the link to download and Read his site.
4. If you get rooted and install clockworkmod's rom manager from the android marketplace I think you can do a nandroid backup as well as a rom backup. I am sure there is a thread in general about how to do that. Just go read it.
Will the cognition rom root my phone as well or is that a seperate thing I need to do? Should I first Root , do the Titanium Backup and then mess with the rom?
Also, once I have Cognitions rom installed, I wont be able to check for software update on the phone , correct? I will have to download future releases from his site?

What is the best way to root? Are there different roots or is rooting all the same, just different procedures. I saw this one and it sounded simple: One click Root/Unroot for Captivate

You can use ODIN one click here on xda to return to stock. First thing you need to do though is search captivate dev section on three button fix. Make sure you are able to get into download mode as this is essential before modding your phone

I updated to froyo 2.2 (leaked version) on my samsung captivate, and I was wondering if there was a possible way to downgrade back to 2.1.

I like the froyo 2.2 just couldnt figure out how to get superuser, im trying to install a custom rom on it, never done it before just wanted to try one out and see! New to all this so probably have more questions haha !

You have to be rooted to have superuser privileges.
Flashing a phone rom is like installing a new OS on a PC. Be careful on doing so and watch some videos and read up on it if you get brave to try flashing custom roms onto your device. Usually ppl use a windows app called Odin to do so. Make sure phone always charged 100% before flashing any new rom also. It could mess up battery stats otherwise and could risk brick if its almost dead then dies LOL. Assuming that's the context of flashing you meant.

Flashing in simple terms means to install a new OS version/Updates/Themes etc on the phone. The most common method found here in XDA is to use something called as Clockwork Recovery Mod.
Seriously, go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364 you will know what you need to do to flash a custom ROM. And may I suggest Firefly 2.1 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914284 as your first ROM. It is a good ROM. You will enjoy it. There are some other ROMs, if you ask which is the best, clearly there is none, it is purely on preference. Once you have flashed one ROM, and then a few, you will know which one you like.
1. installing a custom rom does not require a rooted phone, you can copy the update.zip to your sdcard and get into recovery, select the custom rom zip file and flash from there.
2. have you flashed a bios on a computer? flash a phone's rom is very similar to that.

Before I start I want to say this is probably a very noob question, and I've tried searching the forums with little success (I don't fully undertand a lot of the information). Now, my question/issue.
I've rooted my device using SuperOneClick (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367) and had no issues. Using ROM Manager I can't seem to get ClockworkMod installed. I select the "flash clockworkmod recovery" option then select "galaxy tab att" (I'm in Canada with Rogers but I assume it will work as there both GSM). It pops up that it successfully downloaded but then never installs. Is there a better way to do this? Any help would be appreciated.
You obviously haven't even bothered to check or search the development section. If you had you would already know how to do it.

Thanks for the friendly response. I actually did search the developer forms and didn't understand anything that I found. Which is why I asked here in the general form, I assumed it would be a way to get a better answer more suited for a less experienced user like myself.

OH AND ALSO, you would know to post in the Q&A section NOT IN THE GENERAL section.
Just flash the overcome 1.6 kernel (and the rom together) see dev section.
Or try stock Gingerbread rom from chainfire and flash his jq1 kernel after that

Considering I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make clockworkmod to work, and the articles in the dev section don't make a lot of sense to me I'm doubting that will make anything easier. I was told this was "the forum" to go to for help with Anrdoid work, I guess I should have been told that is only true if you already know how to do everything. Is there a better form for beginners?
Everybody once was a beginner. If you read the overcome manual, you'll know everything for flashing your tab. If you don't understand what the manual is about, then perhaps you shouldn't even consider flashing it.
Why do you want clockworkmod so badly?
The clockworkmod is intergrated in the kernels i just mentioned.

I will track down and read that manual, thanks. Regarding why I want cwm it is (as I understand it) the easiest way to install or change your existing rom. My end product is I want Gingerbread on this device, and I thought this would be the best way to install that rom.

Yes but you are expected to first "read" and then "learn". If you cant follow guides as simple as the ones here then you really shouldn't be attempting to flash anything to your device yet. At least not until you have read various topics.

I want to get into rom flashing, but to be honest I find it rather confusing to say the least.
It would appear that ROM manager seems to be the easiest way to flash my phone correct?
Am I right in saying that all I need to do is download whichever rom I wish to install, rename it to "install .zip", put this file on the internal SD (not quite sure where exactly), then use ROM manager to flash, then it's done?
Is this the safest way of doing a flash?

I thought ROM manager took all that out of it. All you need to do is make sure your on latest CWM (which is does for you before you can download, i believe) and then you pick your download. Once it finishes it asks you whether you want to install and it does it all for you...
There is no "safe" way to flash. Something can always go wrong. I advise you follow the directions on the threads of your chosen rom. That way you can learn of the current bugs, the best way to flash based on your current situation (GB, Stock, another ICS etc) and what you may need to do before hand e.g. wipe/factory reset
If you have any questions on a particular installation method search the forum and the thread. If you cant find it then ask within the thread of your chosen rom.
Usually if its another rom i believe the best thing to do is wipe/factory reset from recovery menu and then choose zip from sd card. (But you still shoud read the first 2 pages and last 3 pages of the thread)

What is the CWM, and why do I need that?
CWM = colockworkmod. Its basically the a new recovery menu that gives you more freedom to what you can do whilst in the menu. You have it on non-rooted devices (stock firmware/samsung firmware) but as i said it provides more freedom. I believe almost every rom uses a version of it, either adapted or not.
Im not sure you will be able to use ROM manager on a device that is not yet rooted (rooted means you have administrative privileges like in windows). You will need root access as you will be changing the system files which if done incorrectly will cause something to go wrong. Which is why you wish to use ROM manager. TBH is very hard to do something wrong with the SGS and not be able to come back from it to have a fully capable phone again.
Don't rush into anything though. Don't root or flash anything without knowing the risks and what could happen, and in-turn what needs to be done to correct it. If you know this then usually you will understand what went wrong and how to fix it.

Hi I have a few questions for my nexus 6 that I am getting today
1) I am going to flash a the new marshmallow update, which one should I pick because for root you need a specific build but on the google factory images the latest build is not supported? I really don't know.
2) After I flash 6.0 can I just do the fastboot flash recovery twrp.img without flashing the boot.img
3) When I go to a new rom like Chroma by Zephik do I still need to change the boot.img to flash the beta super user
For now these are all my questions and I would really appreciate if you could answer it.
side note: I cannot use NRT becuase I am on a mac, if you guys have any alternatives I would really appreciate it too.
1) Flash any of them, they are all rootable. I would recommend going with the latest one. Unless I am mistaken, I believe K, N, and R each have the same radio so there effectively would be no real difference in the end result, as a custom ROM will overwrite everything else.
2) Yes, there is no need to have a modified boot image or root if you plan on flashing a custom ROM.
3) This depends on the ROM, they should have instructions in their post as to what they require. I am pretty sure Chroma comes with a custom kernel already, and I believe it comes pre-rooted as well. It could be that you have to root the ROM after you flash it if you want root though, there are some ROMs that are like that. The OP should have installation instructions.
As for your side note, I don't recommend using a toolkit of any sort. I recommend learning how to use fastboot, and doing it manually. That way if you were to need to fix something in the future, you would have a general understanding of what you did and why, and perhaps that will help you in how to fix it. Rather than clicking a couple buttons in a toolkit. Also, toolkits can fail, and not tell you why. It is often hard to figure out what went wrong when it is doing multiple steps at once, rather than one at a time like if you were to do it the manual way. It really isn't that difficult, and it is very well documented process at this point with tons of guides with pictures and even videos out there.

Thanks so much, I actually used adb/fastboot when I was rooting my mytouch 4g so this knowledge should come in handy, one other question if I were to root the latest factory image can I use the MRA58K.img that Chainfire posted for 6.0 or do I have to find a modified boot img that matches the latest factory image which is MRA58R, thank you so much again
