I guess until the sources are released by Samsung we won't see any more variations.

not until the sources are made available, the chainfire is just a default kernel with mods, not a fully changed kernel

[stock rom] ics 4.0.3 kernel

Hello all,
I upgraded to ics after a full wipe and it is working great but I would like to know if it's safe to use another kernel instead of CFROOT. I was thinking about Franco's or Abyss Note. Is it safe to use one of them? Is there already a version for ICS, and if adfirmative, where to download them? Ty all!
Its a development thread.Go to QnA

As said above, do not post questions in Development. I moved this to Q&A - be certain you don't do it again
Yes sorry, I wont again
Anyhow I was wondering if one of them ported their kernels already to ICS, as chainfire did. I felt pretty comfortable woth Abyss' one...

the only alternative kernel for ICS TouchWizz ROMs now is DAFUQ but that has some features missing, check the known issues of it..

Flashing ICS Updates

Hi All,
This will sound a stupid question, i have flashed SpeedMod Kernal (K3-3) how to i go about flashing a ROM also?
I know most ROMS say how to perform but SpeedMod says no CWM or CIN9 roms?
Anyone help.
What I did:
1. Flash Stock ROM 2.3(choose your country from the Stock Rom topic) with Odin 3
2. Root your device
3. Install CWM
4. Install safe ROM (CM9 as example)

Nothing stupid about the question, but it doesn't belong in Development. I've moved it to Q&A. Please be more careful about where you post

So what ROM are you on now with the speedmod kernel? Stock ICS?
What ROM do you want to go to?
Currently on latest UK ICS 4.0.3 (Offical) rom from Samsung Kies software. Sorry should have stated before not on 2.3.6 anymore.
Any suggestions?

Okay, flash the Speedmod kernel in CWM. This puts you on a safe kernel with stock ICS.
Now, you can flash a CM9 variation of a rom or aokp or one of the other ICS roms that use samsung base.
Edit:
After you flash speedmod, boot up your phone and check settings, about phone, and make sure the kernel is speedmod. Let your phone settle for a little bit, maybe charge if it needs to.

[q] safe kernel for xxlq2 ics

Hi Friends,
I flashed my SGN N7000 with stock ICS rom XXLQ2. I noticed in the xda forum stock ICS rom has a e_mmc fault and can be cause heard brick.
Could anyone suggest me a safe kernel which I can full wipe/ reset facrory and all other recovery options without any fear.
I'm looking forward your earlier response since me new to this android..
Kind Regards
Speedmod or Abyss are known to be safe.
Any 2.3.5 kernel is safe.
Go to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Download a GB 2.3.5 kernel, and you got yourself a brand new phone. Did the same 2 days ago to go to Paranoid Android ROM v0.4. Can recommend this, I'm very happy with it.
To do this check out this tutorial by me here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5K5Wm_201Y&feature=plcp

I can recommend the Goku Kernel. It's based on Speedmod but comes with a few extras like additional cpu governors... And even the latest beta is stable. What's more funky81 is actively developing his kernel.
By the way because it's based on Speedmod the emmc bug is fixed or more precisely circumvented.

[Q] How to root and install Custom rom On Galaxy note on LRL kernel

Hello Guys
I am a newbie here. My question is my Galaxy note is running on Android 4.0.4 on LRL kernel. Is it okay to root this kernel and install a new custom kernel? Can you guys give me some direction? Thanks in advance
goto philz thread and download the kernel for your rom build. Flash it from stock recovery. Stock ics kernels are not safe. This is safe kernel. you will auto root when you install this kernel
Hello Sir
Thanks for ur reply. But can you explain what do u mean by not safe? Sorry I am quite new here

Go through this
Stock ICS kernel has a brick bug which could erase your phones critical files and render it useless. So when on ICS Stock roms always install a safe kernel.
Wiping in recovery when on a stock kernel is dangerous and can trigger the bug

[Q] CM Kernel?

The question probably doesn't belong here but unfortunately I couldn't find what I wanted to know elsewhere. I've seen that there is a CM port kernel in the kernel list but what does a CM port kernel actually do? Can you install Cyanogenmod ROM with it? Sorry for the basic question but it would very nice if somebody could help me out here!
The kernal fixes some problems in the Roms is what I read? I'm not sure if you can install it with or without it.
You can use the kernel, if you have installed the T700 cm-11.0 build from eousphoros:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/orig-development/unofficial-cyanogenmod-11-android-4-4-4-t2835170
BG, Nvertigo
Thanks guys!
So I need to flash the ROM first and then the Kernel?
Yes. You will also need to root again the rom isn't rooted.
