So earlier today my sound out of my speakers seized to exist. well you can still hear the slightest of sound if you place the speaker right up to your ear. The Volume is all the way up. I did receive a call from an unknown number and listened to the voice mail, it was a very odd spam call. I believe this is when it stopped working cause i remember hearing my phone go off then and not after. Ive tried rebooting and nothing. Looks like the spam call got to my phone somehow through voice mail. Any suggestions?
Well i guess i posted this just a few minuets to early... i pulled my battery and rebooted and that seemed to fix it. Not sure what happened, didn't make sense to get hit with something through voice mail does not seem possible. Phones been screwy lately. Sorry to waste a post.
well looks like i didn't waste my time posting cause after i thought i fixed it i lost sound again. I went into sound settings to test it a little after i rebooted to see if it still worked and thats when i lost the sound. So there's definently something wrong somewhere.

This is a known issue with the captivate. Take off the battery cover and press on the speaker with a good amount of pressure.

Yea i read up on this method was afraid to try it cause people said it wasn't a good idea cause they broke it rather then fixed it. But since this seems to be the only solution i've read about i guess its worth a shot. Do i have to do this every time it feels like not working cause its really frustrating when i cant hear my alarm in the morning.

I've been meaning to ask this for months, but I keep forgetting. Today I scoured the site, but can't find anyone with the same problem. Either I'm going crazy or I hear a frequency that nobody else can (lol - "Unbreakable").
Basically, right after I hang up a call, my phone lets out a few audible "twangs." That's the only way I can describe it. WHAT IS IT? Some bizarre audio phenomenon like when cell phones get too close to computer speakers?
I know it's not just my phone - I went through 4 RMA Tilts thanks to RLoD issues, and they've all done it.
Either I'm going crazy (or becoming a superhero) or I'm an idiot and this is by design and I'm missing something obvious.
It just means the call was disconnected. It's useful if your call gets dropped, so you don't keep saying "Hello? Hello?" The phone will twang so you know the other person has hung up or otherwise got disconnected.
Yep I find it annoying too. One beep to let me know I've hung up the phone is fine, but the ding ding ding thing is annoying. Sounds like my phone is going to explode.

Thank you. So it turns out:
1) I'm a first-class goob.
2) It still annoys me.
3) It must not work all the time, because when I have calls dropped, sometimes I do find myself saying "hello" for a time. (Or maybe I've just blocked the sound out entirely.)
4) Now that you mention it, sometimes I DO appreciate it that it lets me know I've been disconnected, sometimes. But why does it do it when I just manually hang up? I certainly don't need to know the call's been dropped THEN.
5) MY BOTTOM LINE (eg - my excuse for being a goob): The sound doesn't sound like an on-purpose thing. It sounds random, like a mistake or a glitch. Hence my confusion.

Thank you for justifying my #5, and thank you for trying to make me feel better about being a goob.
Now let's just let this thread fade into the nether-regions of the forum...
Hey all,
So here's what i did. I've been running perception 9.5 for a long time now with no issues until today.
I went to change my ringtone and i was selecting different ones to hear, then all of a sudden everything went quiet. I plugged the phone into the computer and the sound came back for a bit but then it went away after i tried to change the ringtone again.
Now i flashed serendipity 3.0, thinking that maybe perception borked on me, yet i still have no sound.
Any help would be great =)
Try pulling the battery cover and pressing firmly on the speaker when it occurs.. If it fixes it your speaker is coming loose at connection.

Thanks soo much for the reply =)
I did what you said, both when i knew there was no sound and when i set an alarm. I'm not quite sure if the alarm is what retriggered the sound, or if it was pressing the speaker but my sound appears to work again =)
Thanks so much!
Hey,
Is there a perma fix to this its happened to me twice today haha

It's a hardware problem, so I think the best fix would be to exchange it for a new one through your local AT&T store or an AT&T warranty center.
Sorry to keep brining this up.
It seems like my sound only cuts out when sound is being played (naturally). But if i press the app draw icon to make that little pop noise over and over, the sound doesn't seem to cut out. If i talk on the phone, or play a ringtone it does.
Maybe it's software for me?
Could be. You try rebooting yet? Other than that I guess the only way to know would be reflash the rom or go back to stock and test.

yea i've reflashed 2 roms now with the same troubles. Although i haven't tried it on stock, gonna test that out now
Well, sometimes when somebody calls me or I call them I can't hear anything and they can't hear me, so need to reboot, after that all is well for some time...
Anyone has a fix for that, or know how do repair it without reboot??
Thanks
maybe a software is the cause? I remember when I was on HTC, there were times this happen to me - a hard reset solve the problem for me though.
Thanks, I'll try that... Since you are the only one that replied

thanks let me know if you found out something!
some people have reported problems with the noise cancellation. try turning that off.i think the option is available once the call is started. if so, you could try covering the top microphone hole.
I have this issue also. For me I most notice it when I am calling someone over bluetooth. All of the sudden it will just become silent. I hang up and call back with bluetooth turned off and everything is silent. I can tell that the other person answers the phone because of the screen but it's silent and they can't hear me. The only thing that will get my phone working again is a reboot.
I'm on rocketrom v20 btw.
Hi all, after sending my LG G3 back because of endless problems, poor battery etc I decided to go back to the Nexus line after the 4 and 5 being so reliable to me.
Now, my Nexus 6 is barely 4 days old and the sound has packed up?
There are no in app sounds, Facebook videos, Chrome, YouTube, Netflix etc etc all don't have sound.
I have notification sounds, and when I push "volume up" to increase notification volume i get the maximum "beep" but there is a huge delay?
Had a quick google, seems to be a problem with the Nexus 10 and Lollipop but nothing really shows up about the 6?
Any ideas?
Looks like this one might have to go back too :/
EDIT
I have done a factory reset which hasn't fixed it.
Not to would obvious, but youve checked media volume in settings > sounds and notifications?
Yes, it is at maximum.
Sounds faulty perhaps

No sound
And guess what? My new phone will be here tomorrow, so I backed up my media with the wugfresh tool, rebooted and my sound is back. Weird, huh?
FYI had same problem. No media volume, only volume was ring tone and alarm I hear sound. Also phone calls no volume, only on speaker. Unfortunately how i had this problem was my phone got wet. My phone started to work only after 4 days. So maybe time is what it needs
Funny, I had the same problem, still have I should say, but when off the case, it works fine... Wonder why... Two different cases do that, the third one does not.

I thought your phone got wet in that case.
I also consulted with Google technical support, he asked me to boot in safe mode and it didn't work at all. Now I am waiting for the shipment of replacement. Did you get a brand new Nexus 6 instead of refurbished one, right? Hopefully it may just be the issue of that "first batch".

It did but I didn't mention that to google. They said it was refurbished but it was in a brand new box with new accessories, so I don't think so.

Yep! I did not tell Google as well. Really? So there is no indication on the box showing it's a refurbished device? What is the produce date of your replacement on the box? I did ask him if Google was going to send me a new one, and he said yes. However, I am gonna check with their customer support later if it's refurbished. Thanks for your information!
OK, so it turns out mine is to do with the headphone jack, maybe the software is buggy? But if I plug it in and take it out the sound comes back. The port is clean, so unsure why it is doing it? Oddly I have discovered that while it is having its issue with the sound, the google now voice keeps popping up as if I have said "ok google" (which is turned off?)
Hasn't done it for a while now though, will see if 5.1 cures any of the problems.

THANK YOU!! Started having this issue with my N6 earlier in the week. I'm using PureNexus ROM 7.1 and thought the issue had to do with a recent update, like maybe I screwed up flashing it or something. Re-flashed it several times trying different things and nothing worked. Was starting to get pretty frustrated with the whole ordeal but plugging in the headphone jack worked like a charm.

I work with metal and drills and stuff...
I have noticed that bits of metal between my case and my phone seem to make my phone think the headphones are plugged in...
Hello! I already posted about this on reddit but maybe someone here could help me too (I'm going to paste what I said there):
Yesterday, while I was in a call, I noticed that my phone was making a weird sound. It is a constant buzzing that is only hearable when I put my ear next to the screen or when the place I'm in is completely quiet. Also, when I turn the screen on, there's another sound that sounds a bit like a camera shutter (I don't know how to describe it better). Both of these sounds seem to be coming from the upper part of the phone and can only be heard from the touch screen, not from the back. Again, these sounds are barely audible but they still scare me a bit.
I don't live in the USA so using the warranty of this phone would be a huge, huge problem. It is also worth noting that I don't think this was happening before I updated to the latest system version,
which is 6.0.1-01001. Are system updates capable of causing problems like these?
I would seriously appreciate any kind of help. I am seriously a noob in these kind of things and really concerned. I already contacted Alcatel Support but they haven't replied yet. Thanks!

Well... my phone died like 10 days after starting this thread. It gets stuck in the "ALCATEL 4S" screen and then reboots. If you're in the U.S. I would recommend you to use it until it starts showing signs of it dying (my phone started to get really slow and started rebooting randomly) and then send it to repair
