It's a state of the phone when the CPU turns off but the radio is still on.
It activates automatically when you leave your phone in stand-by for some time, like 10 minutes or so. You can check if it is working with CPUspy or if you don't want to download apps notice if when you turn on the screen it takes a second, instead of turning on inmediately.
ei
is it different in sleep mode?
Is there a way to activate it by myself??

No, there isn't. ensoy is lying, or he is wrong. The option in No-frills activates deep sleep checking (in the app) but not deep sleep itself.
@ensoy There is some space between being noob and being stupid, you know.

You can very well use SetCPU from the playstore to control your CPU speeds (the inbuilt powersave governor will be helpful). All you need is a rooted device.
Hey, I started using this ICS Rom (the AOKP version), comming from overcome
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697589
I have a major battery drain. Like 50% in 10 hours without using the tab. Any ideas how that can be?
Also is there a custom ICS Rom which is known for its good battery life?
Thanks.
CM9 drain off battery too fast too... Maybe ICS isn't optimized for our tab...
Yes, but that seems like a lot to me... I am thinking about switching back to Overcome, I cannot take my tab with me anymore with this battery consumption.

Install CPU spy to see if your CPU is going into deep sleep.

I installed CPU spy... Tab used deep sleep mode about 80%, but battery goes off too fast...

How should I do that? I mean, do I run the app and then simply leave some time?
EDIT: The tab does not go into deep sleep. Does that mean I have a wakelock? How can I find out, what is keeping the tab awake?

Install ''BetterBatteryStats'' from play store and see what is causing the wake lock.

I don't know if this is something: com.google.android.location woke up 515 times, but i can't find it in titanium backup to freeze it.

could I get a link?
I don't know how I did it but the tab is now on 125 Mhz when I don't use it. However, CPU Spy says that it does not go into deep sleep. How can that be and what is the difference between deep sleep and simply going to the lowest CPU frequency?
Cm9 stable release without gapps install is giving me battery backup almost same as overcome.no more over heating, lags or bugs.perfect build.
nightly build cause overheating n fast drainage in my tab. however didnt try latest versions as after stable release i didnt flash any other rom.my main concern use to be battery life so always come back to gb.bt now 2.3 is outdated for me.

i installed cpu spy in my tab..
it display deep sleep under unused cpu..why it happen? i install betterbatterystats...almost all process less than 2% used
Run betterbatterystats for a few hour and post the screen capture here for kernel wake locks and partial wake locks.
Maybe we can help.
Saying less than 2% doesn't mean much.

If it us really NetworkStats, from my own experience, it was bad modem.
What is your baseband showing.
You may need to replace the modem.

huh? baseband version is unknown
how to replace modem?
We nail the problem then.
In the dev forum, there is a sticky thread called modems.
Get one, maybe jpz.
Unpack it, copy the modem.bin to /radio/modem.bin
Reboot, check baseband.

Hello all
Thus is my seconed galaxy s2 ,the firsylt one was perfect i rooted him and he was never getting over heating and i controled the cpu hertz just perfectly until it felt to the toilet so the ensurance gave me anther galaxy s2 , and to this galaxy i did CF root and he was rooted perfectly ,i did everything right by the guide and followed every step, i downloaded rom toolbox and started to make CPU control profiles for battery life of course, but my phone always got stuck and turned off randomly i think and got over heated so fast( about 50c) so i stoped controlled the cpu and my phone is still getting to 45c in a metter of seconds when im even surfing, and it never happend to me with my last phone, please help me guys!!!!!(sorry for my bad english)
Thanks in advance

Its SGS1 thread , yet I guess you should go to CWR and wipe every thing + battery state ,than go directly to download mode and install the Rom using Odin

I have changed my firmware from 10F to 10H as I heard that it is much better. I rooted it and then reset it to factory settings and I deleted some of the bloatware. I used LG gearbox and set the CPU speed to 1000mhz on two cores and used this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2048315
In additions, I installed fast dormancy toggle from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2021248
Yesterday, I used the phone with light usage such as browsing for a few minutes that's all, but still the android system was on top, I hardly used it why is this?
On the CPU it shows that it was running on 51mhz for more of the time than deep sleep, that must be the reason why the battery had been draining.
android system is more than one app, is the system it self...
Its logic why is on the top
yeh but even wen my phone was not in use how come it was hardly on deep sleep? compared to the galaxy s3 this battery is much worse as on s3 the android system is below the screen and screen is on top for usage. on the s3 when the phone isnt in use it is mostly on deep sleep.

Even in deep sleep the clock is working, the alarm, keys software...
Like when we are sleeping, heart keeps beating, etc...
That's why it's logic to be on the top

Disregard this, the guy is wrong. Your phone should be in deep sleep most of the time.
Could you please obtain "BetterBattery Stats" or a similar program to post screenshots of your kernel and partial wakelocks? This would help us figuring out what is wrong. My friend has the same phone, and Android system is on top for him too most of the time. We are still trying to find out what is going on.

He's right... Sorry, my mistake
When in deep sleep :
In first place should be "Cell standby" and after "Phone idle".
It's what I have in mine...
After 9 hours my battery drain was 1% in deep sleep.

Check the CPU Governor ,, for dual core we set it "hotplug" but about quad core I do not know .
But mainly the problem with governor ,, governor means something like profile . It controls the CPU frequency to get performance or powersave or both of them .
To change governor install any CPU app and you will find it .
Search about governor with quad core in google . Sorry my phone is dual core (Optimus 3D) .

My phone is no longer set to dual core 1000mhz. now it is set to 1500mhz dual core, as lg gear box has stopped working on my phone lol.

The Governor has no influence on any app or system process holding a wakelock. The governor merely controls the way the CPU frequency is scaled depending on load conditions.

Yeah . I know
The governor controls the deepsleep which makes system off
So by the governor can enter deepsleep then the system will off .
I know what I say , I do not post things I'm not sure about them

maybe phones battery isnt calibrate. let battery get empty completely & charge it again. repeat this job several times. then use battery calibration & easy battery saver.

did you make sure your apps running don't keep your phone awake? and that the phone does go into deep sleep?
a bit off topic but my problem is that the battery has been stuck at 24% for the last 12 hrs, I've not been using the phone because the earpiece speaker is broken so waiting to get it repaired. I've tried rebooting the phone and still at 24%, I'm going to play a video until it drains the battery and do a full charge. battery info shows the phone has been on for 2 days 11hrs since last charge on standby most of the time.
battery
i charged the phone yesterday night now the battery is still on 100% with no use all day. if i open wifi or start for example an app the battery goes down like a countdown.whats the problem then?
