Anybody tried this yet. I believe it's only limited in US. This would be nice on our Note.
tried it. 7 inch screens or above, sadly.
No available in The Netherlands yet.
Would like to try it out.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-ms-office-media-streaming-and-more-hands-on/
has download links for outside the US
but it will object to being on a screen smaller than 7 inches, and refuse to run.
I'm not sure how it checks this, and whether dpi changing is a valid solution.
How to use /set /have /put Onlive Desktop on ANY SMARTPHONE OR TABLET!!!
How to use /set /have /put Onlive Desktop on ANY SMARTPHONE OR TABLET!!!
Simple trick to bypass 7 inch protection and use this cool app on any device...
If you dont have app download latest version with black market alpha
http://www.mediafire.com/?hgdljhid6kvomke
Just download from google play lcd resolution - ///must have root and busybox///
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wemobs.android.lcdresolution&hl=sr
Set density around 100 – 160 and Onlive Desktop will probably work... - Tryed on Galaxy Note and density 160... (lowest possible...) and it worked
Only bad thing it wont probably be full screen, so fell free to try different resolutions, and maybe you set full screen
Hope i helped! If you have any question or better idea fill free to say
Niiice! That actually works, even with Paranoid Android when only Onlive Desktop's resolution is set to 160.
Thx for the tip!

This app will let you control your computer through via both 3g and wifi. The companion WONT work for win 7 home which is what i have. So i have a question: Anyone know a way to make it work for win 7 home or another app that will work the same way?

Which is $30, whereas this looks like it's free. I'm in the process of installing the free app on the market, and the free desktop companion as well.
OP, have you tried it? Most features that work on one work on the other, so might want to give it a go at least.
1. androidVNC on captivate
2. tightvnc on all home computers
3. all computers wake on lan
4. add a dash of dropbox and some dd-wrt lock down on the side
5. enjoy complete remote access and admin
Bonus: I like that VNC has dual monitor support. Both screens show on your device with "pinch and zoom" and touch scrolling capability.
What about going the other direction?
I'd like to control the Captivate from my Windows 7 PC x64 running a VNC viewer.
What apps are the best for that?
I can't get droidVNC to work. It always rejects the correct password.
I agree with agentdr8. LogMeIn is easily the best way to go. I'd love if TeamViewer made an android app though. It seem unfair that iOS gets all the loving.

I know it has. I switched over on release day and never looked back. Very polished for a beta app.
Sent from my Captivate
PocketCloud does not seem to function after only two successful logins (very cool when it worked). I don't know if it is a limited demo thing or it broke (can't find any mention of limitations . . . ).
I love TeamViewer (used it to help family with computer problems before) but I can't get it to run on my Dell Streak running Froyo (always comes up ForceClose).
Will have to try VNC and see how that works for me.
i notice this app in the android app store today. has anyone purchased this $4.99 app? recommendations? pros and cons?
damn, instead of fixing their app they want us to buy it AGAIN?!
this kind of behavior by app makers really makes me mad!!
...and besides, by the comments, it looks like it still changing the host's resolution, that is the biggest issue with this app for me, as it messes with all open windows locations and sizes.
this is bull****, it should be an update. i have the old app and it's the best for streaming videos but not for actual work, for that i recommend teamviewer.
i disagree. this app is great and is well worth the $5 dollars for their hard work. you can always request a refund for the first app. they might not give it to you but its worth a shot.
the app runs incredibly even on my ****ty internet
it originally does change your resolution size however when reverting back to normal resolution the orientation of your desktop is left unchanged! you can make it not change your resolution at all in the settings for the connection itself.
great app
I bought it since I do not have it yet. yes it DOES change the host resolution to 720p which is VERY annoying but otherwise it is pretty good.
THanks for the heads up....although I SWEAR that I saw this thread in the Asus Transformer section....now it is in Xoom section?
I like the app, except I wish it had the ability to blank the screen on the host. Resolution change doesnt bother me as it does this to match the screen resolution of the xoom. Also you can not use it outside of your own LAN yet which is a pretty big deal.

Sure you can, it's called port forwarding.
By the way this version of the app utilizes the dual core tegra more efficiently and they are already optimizing for 1280x752 instead of just 1280x720. I was running around in WoW for a few minutes, it was funny

Yes you can, you can use it as long as you know your IP address and the port that is assigned to Splashtop, it tells you that when you configure it the first time.
I bought the program based on the comments in the market after the OP here made me aware of the program. I think it's a great program and it does exactly what it says it does.

That's normal for remote desktop. Even the windows client from Microsoft does this.
If you don't want this behavior you're going to need to find a different protocol, like logmein or VNC.
I bought it, love it. Might as well get it now before the price raises to 10. Even if not going to use it much like me.

that is not correct. RDP can just use the host resolution (or any available resolution in the host) like any other! even spalshtop for iOS can do that!!
check your facts before posting something like that!
Ok just to be fair, if you adjust it to use the computer's native resolution, it doesn't change a thing host wise. It defaults to best fit the device using it, and most people don't know how to change it or didn't know you could.

that is something that already existed in iOS version, but not in the non-HD version and the description of the app didn't mentioned it... some posts confirmed it changing the resolution anyway, like the non-HD version, but I'm glad they actually implemented this setting this time. (can you confirm it not changing a host resolution larger the 1280x800? 1440x900 or 1920x1080? thanks)
Just waiting if they can refund the old version now, as I have no use for it and was just it for this single option to be implemented.
Yes, my res is 1440*900 and it doesn't change a thing host wise for me.

thanks =D
(if anyone with ~ 1920x1080 can confirm this too, it would be very nice!)
I have tried
phonemypc
Team viewer
Loads of vnc ones
And this is by far the best viewer application at the moment.
Audio streaming has problems though.( solved my set up is PC to HD TV to amp, just had to changed it from HDMI audio to standard and it worked)
I will be sticking with this for a while.

i bit the bullet and decided to purchase the app. im loving the app. a cheaper alternative to gotomypc or teamviewer. i love the fact that it streams the desktop, audio, and video to the xoom. highly recommend this app!
Somebody made a video demonstrating it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpEo7pyX8XQ

Just got the 10.5" WiFi version with the Samsung keyboard (BEAUTIFUL together, I might add) a few days ago. I also picked up the Samsung mouse, as it's quite useful for when I'm using this for server connections, etc. I've populated the microSD slot with a 16GB that I had lying around; but have plans to grab a larger one soon. I tried, unsuccessfully, to run CM11 (which is not working with wireless AC it seems), thunder rom, which failed about 5 times out of the 6 I tried to install it. In the end, I just Odin'd to the factory image, rooted, and debloated. This preserved everything that I needed and wanted, without issue.
Currently, I have the following installed; your feedback is welcome for better or for worse:
AdAway - Obviously to remove ads
Air Comic Viewer (Paid) - Connects to my Linux Air Comic Server to read comics
AnyConnect - Connection to work VPN
BusyBox Pro - Obvious...and for goodness sakes, people...buy it and support the developer
Chrome Device Support Library - Supposedly helps performance of Chrome on Samsung devices.
DVFS Disabler - Xposed module to disable DVFS
ES File Explorer - Best file manager available
EZ Weather - Not totally sold on this weather widget, but it's not horrible either
F-Droid - Really, just for AdAway
Google Keyboard - Still my favorite soft keyboard
Hancom Office Hcell 2014 - Actually, not a bad office suite so far...I'll be comparing it against WPS
Hancom Office Hshow 2014 - See above
Hancom Office Hword 2014 - See above above
JuiceSSH (Paid) - SSH with tunnels and all kinds of goodies; totally worth the money
KitKat SD Card Full Access - Xposed module
LolliPop HD Theme - For a couple of icons
Marvel Unlimited - Moar comics!
MyFitnessPal - For fatties like me
Nest - Control the thermostat and smoke/carbon detectors
NovaLauncher (with Prime) - Much better than TouchWiz, IMHO
Open VPN Connect - For home VPN
Plex - Movie/TV consumption from my server
Remote Transmission - Control the torrents running on my server
RetroArch - Ultimate emulation app
Sixaxis Controller - What better to play RetroArch with?
Subsonic - Music client for my Subsonic server
Subtle - Some nice wallpapers
SuperSU (with Pro) - Again, support the devs!
TeslaUnread Plugin - A must when you've got Nova Prime
Titanium Backup (with Pro) - Can't say it enough...support developers
VNC Viewer - On the off chance I need to graphically remote into my server
Wanam Xposed - A must-have module for Xposed
WPS Office (Kingsoft Office) - For comparison against Hancom
Xposed Framework - Ultimate tweaking
YouTube AdAway - Because f**k ads
Performance is up after tweaks and freezing all the crap that I don't need/want. My goal is to replace the combination of my personal laptop (Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro) and my Nexus 7. The Tab S, even at the 10.5" size is light enough that I can hold it for very long periods of time to read/watch stuff. The screen is incredible. (By the way, I HIGHLY recommend using the Basic display profile. It removes all of the unnatural saturation that is so common in AMOLED screens. DisplayMate did a breakdown of the same technology on the Note 4 screen, the only other device to feature this, and it makes the color profile as close to reality as you can get in AMOLED.)
Anyways...I feel like I'm reaching the end of stuff to install and configure, but wanted to not only share my setup and get suggestions/feedback. Anyone have anything constructive to add?
How about sharing battery life results? I installed a custom kernel and set it to battery savings settings and still get no lag. I get about 9 hours screen on time.

I assume you mean the Samsung S mouse. How well does it work and when does it? I was also thinking of this but wanted to try it out first. Was curious which screens does it actually work in. I too VPN into my job and connect to my VDI session. That is indeed where I can see it being useful but was curious if it worked inside Android at all. The Samsung Kiosk in Best Buy near me did not have one to test. Any feedback you can provide would be helpful. Wondering if I could use the 50% Samsung coupon on this but want to know if it's really worth it or not.
Thanks

Yes, I do mean the S mouse. It works 100% of the time in Android. In fact, it works really well. There's a small learning curve compared to normal mouse actions; right-click to go back, middle-click for home, etc. The best part is that it makes some applications really work well, such as 2X RDP; the right-click in an RDP session is exactly like it would be in Windows. It also makes for easier navigation in the office suite and chrome. Pair that with the multi-window functionality and you can multi-task with ease.
It's definitely worth it for me.
As a side note, I compared the office suites and found that I actually prefer the Hancom suite; it's just a bit closer to Microsoft's desktop version in my opinion.
Also, as of this post, my tablet has been on battery for 4hrs and 6mins, with 2hrs and 26mins screen time and I'm at 80% left. At that rate, I could easily get another 6 to 7 hours in. Most of that time has been using both the keyboard and mouse on Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi has been on the entire time. Rather fantastic, I must say!

I'm on stock kernel and had the same amount of screen on time. Yesterday, I ran a test. I had the device strictly on battery for quite a bit. I keep the tablet on auto brightness, use the bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and even did some gaming with RetroArch and my PS3 controller for a bit. Most of the day on it was spent on a VPN or at least browsing something. Here are my battery screens for that period:

How can I turn my Note 8 into a second monitor, or duplicate my pc screen onto it. I want to use the phone as a drawing tablet with PC photoshop.
I tried using the RD Client, but to draw lines you have to double tap somewhere and that is VERY annoying when you want to draw brush strokes.
I could use an app, but they are all very limited compared to OG Photoshop.
So, I'd like to use my phone like one of those Cintiq tablets.
have u ever try to use TeamViewer? it can be a second monitor.
you can set your note 8 as a Wacom tablet. I've read that somewhere.

RD Client is useless and not touch optimized, download RD beta client, it is touch enabled, will behave much closer to what you expect. You should also customize the screen resolution and scaling to get the most out of the note 8.
So Im in need of a fully functional desktop mode becase I have some apps that are apk but arent made for small screen (adobe connect etc.) so i need to use the desktop mode on my pc
Is it possible?
Does asus offer a mode similar to samsung dex??!
theoretically, there was a barebone desktop mode added in stock android 10, but so far it seems that asus removed it : /. Maybe with OEM Asus dock it would work, but I don't have such one on hand. (Got one from baseus with 3xUSB3.0, USB C with PD, RJ-45 and a HDMI, works like a charm, just cant make the desktop mode work. Streaming screen thru HDMI works nicely tho)

FYI I don't have this phone so your mileage may vary.
You can try "scrcpy" and make DIY desktop mode. It is open source screen mirroring app for windows, linux and mac and is almost lag free even over wifi. It only needs adb, without any client app on the phone. It will basically mirror your phone's screen to pc and enable you to use your pc's mouse and keyboard as phone's one. In dev options on your phone you need to enable usb debugging. You proppably would also like to change DPI. If you have root you can also try this app which has a lot more options than just changing dpi https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farmerbb.secondscreen.free
