Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to go back to gingerbread with Odin or Heimdall?
I'm on SGSICS (4.0.3) ROM, with ICS Semaphore Kernel.
(Don't say -search it on youtube- )
Please make it easy to understand, thanks!
Search on YouTube, xda or google!
Seriously though there is loads of info about this.
Make sure kies is off.
Get Odin. Get pit 512.
Get stock ROM from Samfirmware. One with the three files. Phone, pda, csc..
Now start Odin. Select all four files.to the correct spot. Pit in pit, csc in csc etc. check re-partition
Once selected start phone in download mode. (power button, home button and volume down on my phone)
Connect phone to PC.
When Odin is ready hit start.
Phone should now reboot.
I have found occasionally phone doesn't boot at this point. This is no problem.
Repeat process. This time don't use pit file and make sure repartition is not checked. (use only phone, pda, csc)
This time everything should work.
Also do factory reset here and clear cache.

This guide will walk you through the process of installing a stock ROM on your phone.
Do this at your own risk, I'm not responsible for any bricks.
1. Things you need to read first before attempting anything:
Keep the phone properly connected to the PC!
This guide is only for those with a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (International version).
Before continuing, make a backup of all your data.
If the phone gets stuck at the boot screen, try doing the procedure again..
2. Download the following files
A Stock ROM/Firmware file.many available here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14273101&postcount=1 (and also more detailed
instructions and videos)
A .pit512 file : from link above also.
The Galaxy S Drivers
These are probably already installed on your PC (if you have Kies installed). But if not, download here.
Windows [32 bit]:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
Windows [64 bit]:

ODIN v1.3.
This is the program you'll use to put the stock firmware on the phone.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Make sure you have extracted the contents of the Firmware, .PIT and ODIN rar files to a folder.
2. Turn off your phone and boot into the Download Mode (Volume DOWN+Home+Power Button).
3. Start ODIN. Then connect the phone to the computer. ODIN will say 'Added!'.
4. Tick the Repartition option
5. Then, in ODIN, select the following files in .pit, PDA, CSC and PHONE
a) .PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
b) PDA: PDA_JS7.tar.md5
c) PHONE: PHONE_JPY.tar.md5
d) CSC: CSC_XEE_JS1.tar.md5
The stock rom you choose will maybe differ from the above( stock ROM (XWJS7 2.2.1)but just make sure that PDA PHONE CSC of your firmware are in the same places .

6. Now, click on Start.
7. When it's done, the progress bar in the top left will say PASS, and the phone will reboot. You can now disconnect the phone from the computer.
NOTE: If something goes wrong, your phone might show the following image:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Jv7eyrf0N...px-Samsung_Galaxy_S_Black_Screen_of_Death.jpg
DON'T PANIC! This happens sometimes if there is a USB connection error.
Disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery for 5 minutes, reinsert it, turn phone on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 2.
That's it. You are now on stock ROM

Thank you, this is even better.
Do you know if i'll keep the ClockWork Recovery? :S
You could download a pre rooted "stock" rom to keep cwm.

super noob question here sorry but what does clockwork do exactly? sorry don't kill me i'm just trying to learn
buckle your seat belts.... here we go
Lots of questions for the newbies, ready to beta test..
1- I'm on Mac, do I just drag this file to my internal or external SD CARD ? Do I look for the file and follow instructions in first post ?
2- Once installed, I'm I ready to install Paul's Rom ?
3- I notice there is two zip's to update....Apply or install ? which one for roms ?
Thank you all
If you're unsure on how to use odin, watch this video

Odin can be found here :

where do we download odin3 and how do I install it if it's not included in the .tar file not to be extracted?
EDIT: question answered. thnx
In a nut shell Clockwork is a recovery image which allows you to not only flash new roms; but also alows back up and restore your phone.

I have a button that says PDA is that what you meant or am I missing something (quite possible)?
so basically if i want to reset my phone back to stock this is what i use? can i get odin3 for mac?
+1 to the question if he meant PDA instead of PDU
This is for flashing custom roms. Backing up your phone between flashes, before flashes, managing sd partitions, flashing themes, recovering after bad flashes, wiping data, wiping apps, pretty much it is the heart and soul of your pretty new phone. This gives you a little piece of mind when modding your phone.

I just updated the "Read before posting and Informative links" sticky... it contains the link to Odin3, the recovery and the drivers all in one place...
Just found out on IRC that he did mean PDA not PDU. But I also found a post by someone saying they bricked, so be careful. Anyone successful yet?
Just be warned, I'm fairly sure I've managed to (drunkenly) brick my Vibrant already via Odin3 flash that didn't finish.
Herp derp.
Sorry man, your not alone another brick just reported.
Define brick?
Phone -> PC?
That is not bricked. Have them reflash the files in the other thread.

Bricked = Paperweight / Phone doing nothing / Not connecting to PC and not able to reflash. There are now reports of 3 full bricks.
yikes.. holding off till this gets stabilized.. on another note samsung kies looks a lil screwy to me and cannot even read any sub titles within the program, text is all glitchy. all I see are the icons and can navigate.
[Q] need help with flashing
I know all the info on here is very usefull but too many people assume us noobs know all the lingo,I managed to root have s.u. and rom manager, ive flashed cwm, backed up everything 3 times with tit bu,dbox and desktop and ext hrd dve,I have cog, andromeda, perception all downloaded and put on sd card as .zip , when i choose dl rom from sd card and check the 3 pre inst options my phone then goes into the bootmode with options to (re-boot now, wipe all user data,re install packages , wipe cache. Iam scared to do the wipe system and user data but have tried the re boot now,re inst packages and wipe cache all which just re boot as though im shutting the phone off and back on again. i need to know if i have to choose the wipe system and user data and when i do what do i do from there I NEED DETAILS step by step, also i dont understand all this odin stuff
Are you able to get into CWM recovery. It's the green one. Choose install .zip from sd card. If it's blue, you're still at the Android recovery. Choose install update.zip, do it until CWM recovery green boots up. Then choose install .zip from sd card. Locate your rom on the sd card and install.

remember when i told you you should read the info in the forums?
it applies here too.
you are 'clayed' soft-brick if you will.....use ODIN to get back to stock....and stop messing with your phone until you understand wtf you are doing....
[Q] just flashed to att 2.1
I screwed up my phone and used odin to get it to master clear i was rogers 2.2 stock now my phone is att 2.1 eclair,i had all my stuff backed up with tit bu,what do i need to do now to get my phone back because right now its like a brand new att which i dont want
i know i know,im tryna learn..trial and error i guess, I got it to work by using odin but now its a 2.1 like a brand new phone how do i get all my stuff from titanium or is it easier to flash a new rom from where i am now
btw im on rogers stock 2.2
flash a 2.2 kernel with odin, that has CWM baked into it (hint, nearly all of them do) and then flash straight from CWM....

My thought would be to shuck off your mortal Froyo coils and move on to one of the great Gingerbread roms such as Continuum 5.5, GR-12, Serendipity vII, or Mosaic III (JVH is good but JVO is better).
CAREFULLY read ALL instructions!! The devs here are remarkably knowledgable but sometimes forget the word everything out fully for the noob.
ODIN flashes happen when your phone is in Download Mode (yellow triangle). CWM flashes happen in Recovery mode (must flash a file that has been transferred to the phone previously).
FROYO: Download Mode = Hold Both Volume Buttons and plug in your data cable. (Make sure ODIN is running on your computer first) - - Recovery Mode = Hold both volume buttons AND power button (wait until kernel image flashes a second time and then let go of all buttons) - - GINGERBREAD: Download Mode = Hold only BOTTOM volume button and plug in your data cable. - - Recovery Mode = Hold TOP volume button AND power button until kernel image flashes a second time and let go of all buttons.
Flash one of these packages if you are on a Rogers Captivate...

Hey man love your videos, the guy at the phone store got my phone working, but it is now a att 2.2,it doesnt have a enable non market apps option so my titanium wont restore my back up can i use this odin link to flash that stock rogers rom
A friend of mine came forward with a bricked phone and asked me to fix it. It could not boot into android nor enter recovery mode (it just stays there infinitely).
I figured the last resort would be to use odin mode and flashing the stock rom so I did a little search an came up with this article.
But when I tried to flash the stock image there was an error in the process. You can seen a screenshot of the result down below.
Now I have no idea what to do next!!!
Please help me.

I still doubt it bricked or not
Once try this
Find first line on my sign for note 1 and go to post #2
Get kl3 India rom (installation instructions there)
Before flashing that rom make sure
-un install kies, and install usb driver (find from toolbox on my sign)
-close firewall, anti virus
-use different usb port, don't use any extension cable
-download pit file from toolbox on my signature and select for pit (don't unchecked re-Partition, it will auto select once you add pit)
And select tar file for pda
And flash
If it is successful then wipe cache and data from recovery.

Since you find it too difficult to deal with the who pit thread then there are two options below"
1. if can get warranty, try to seek help from SS
2. If not should try to flash this custom pit file, together with GB rom. Then restart in recovery, format cache, data (same as factory reset) and usbstorage (internal sdcard). This PIT will repartition (make sure repartition is ticked in odin) emmc and you will lose about 3gb internal sdcard.

Hey,
I tried flashing a new kernal via Odin but my laptop switched off halfway through and now when I switch on my Galaxy S1 (i9000) it get's stuck at the Galaxy S GT-I9000 Samsung screen . I can't get it into recovery although I can access download mode and it is recognized in Odin. I think it should just be as simple as reflashing the PDA, MODEM and CSC file through Odin although If anyone can help me acquire these stock files or by using any other methods to restore my phone back to normal It'll be greatly appreciated.

you can get from My Android Collections and or a solution from My Android Solutions or use a rescue kit
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card, after flashing and reboot , insert them back
Tips before Flashing:-
Backup all your important files, contacts, SMS, game data, images etc to PC or Ext SD card. or make Nanadroid Backup If you have CWM
Backup your EFS Folder to PC or Ext SD card
Enable USB Debugging on Phone. Touch menu> Settings> Applications> Development>
Charge your battery to more than 50% before you attempt any sort of flashing.
Disable Samsung KIES when using Odin. Kill Kies.exe, KiesTrayAgent.exe, & KiesPDLR.exe using Task Manager on PC
Use only ROM and solution for your model and Wipe x3
Thanks for all the help guys but still no luck .
I've tried what you've said xsenman by using the ezboot recovery tool although its still not booting up. It gets to this screen and then stops;

Just go into download mode and flash the ROM again for your Model , all ROMS, are available in My Android Collections
I've flashed the EZboot recovery and then I installed the CFRoot rom although it still keeps getting stuck at the start screen. During the Odin flashing part it says it's passed with no failures but it still won't start.

Mostly if I go back 2 stock it takes Max 20 min. When it pass it should reboot from itself
It still isn't working Donovan, thanks for all your help so far though, any more suggestions?
Does it pass in odin? Does it reboot after pass, does it install something after Samsung logo? Or does it reboots and hangs in Samsung logo right away?
It passes in Odin and then it just hangs at the first boot screen like the picture on page 1. I still can't get into recovery and for some reason to get into download mode I press the down volume key and the side sleep button without having to press the OK button.

Hello, peeps!
So I was when starting an application, my phone doesn't respond. Tried the power button and it didn't work so I removed the battery and placed it back in.
Here's when my nightmare starts. My phone is stuck at the "GT-N7000" screen, and I cannot proceed further. I'm unable to start Recovery Mode (Vol Up + Power + Home), and only Download Mode works.
However, I tried flashing stock roms, Odin showed no progress even after almost 2 hours.
What seems to be the issue? Is it a hard brick?
Questions should be in the Q&A section.
Is odin able to detect the phone.. ( the port square in odin turns yellow/blue?).
check if there are any Kies processes running in the task manager.. kill them, restart odin and restart phone in download mode and try again.

stuck at the NAND Write part, and the progress bar shows no progress at all (the green bar thing). Could this mean hard brick?
do you have warranty? If yes, take it to Samsung and tell them to rectify it. If no warranty then, you will need to get into recovery may be by flashing a kernel using odin.

Wow...thank you for such quick replies!!
Nope, no longer in warranty..Can I have a link to the kernel file?
Thank you so much!
Before you go about this.. try a reboot PC, reboot download mode phone. try a original USB cable and main USB port of pc and flash again,
If above still stops at NAND
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
look for a tar.md5 file which is odin flashable. If you remember the build number of you phone, then pick that else get any JB kernel and flash using odin. check if odin gives a pass.

I've flashed it, unfortunately it's stuck at NAND (kernel flash). Are there any alternatives?
Thanks!

Sorry for double posting, here's the screenshot..
you dont need to select it everywhere... just the PDA ONLY.
1. download http://d-h.st/FVh.. this is a PIT file.. select it in the PIT partition. Check it and also repartition.
2. select the kernel file in the PDA..
3. press start... (you will need to reboot into download mode every time to start flashing. so remove the battery.. reboot into download mode.. (vol down+home+power)... after you get the screen volume up to continue.. once the screen shows DOWNLOADING, then connect to pc .. open odin
Thanks again!
How long does it normally take for the entire process to complete? The progress bar of "Set Partition" isn't moving at all
There seems to be some issue with the USB Port or Cable or PC.. you need to check ...a full flash of rom takes about 5-10 mins.
use only the back usb port, don't use the front or extension usb ports, they often throw up problems.. good luck
elprix and
I tried everything suggested, but the progress bar doesn't even move
What are the symptoms of hard brick btw?
EDIT : I tried with Odin3 V3.09, and it is stated Re-Partition failed.
EDIT2 : Tried multiple files, progress bar not moving at all.
It don't write to NAND. But it still is able to set partition. Have you tried a different pc? Uninstall Kies completely and then again install Samsung usb drivers.

Hi everyone!
I experience a similar problem as the original poster! Yesterday my phone was fine, but then it rebooted and got stuck. Now I can only get in to "Download mode". There it says:
Odin Mode
Product Name: GT-N7000
Custom binary download: No
Current binary: Samsung Official
I've had it running Paranoid Android successfully for months and then this happened! So where do I go from here,,,? I have Odin downloaded, drivers installed, so what should I try to flash and in what order?
I would be thankful for any help - feel a bit handicapped without a phone!
