A friend of mine came forward with a bricked phone and asked me to fix it. It could not boot into android nor enter recovery mode (it just stays there infinitely).
I figured the last resort would be to use odin mode and flashing the stock rom so I did a little search an came up with this article.
But when I tried to flash the stock image there was an error in the process. You can seen a screenshot of the result down below.
Now I have no idea what to do next!!!
Please help me.

@op
I still doubt it bricked or not
Once try this
Find first line on my sign for note 1 and go to post #2
Get kl3 India rom (installation instructions there)
Before flashing that rom make sure
-un install kies, and install usb driver (find from toolbox on my sign)
-close firewall, anti virus
-use different usb port, don't use any extension cable
-download pit file from toolbox on my signature and select for pit (don't unchecked re-Partition, it will auto select once you add pit)
And select tar file for pda
And flash
If it is successful then wipe cache and data from recovery.

I got some questions. Should I flash the PIT file before flashing the ROM or just along with it?
And here is a picture of the bricked device when I attend to enter recovery by pressing (Vol Up + Home + Power). Same thing happens when trying normal boot.
Flash both kl3 and pit file at the same time.

Thanks. I'll try it tonight.
And don't uncheck re-partition, as it will auto check once you select pit.
Thanks also Dr. Ketan for answering my pm, I hope you dont get tired of me.

Looking at the image as per my knowledge its only failed to flash firmware n its lik half dobe.

Try restarting yr phone normally once. then wether it puts on or not.
Remove battery insert n press power button n remove it n then put it again and
This time try to enter download mode n then follow dr.ketan method of flashing stock rom via pc odin as it is told.

Since you find it too difficult to deal with the who pit thread then there are two options below"
1. if can get warranty, try to seek help from SS
2. If not should try to flash this custom pit file, together with GB rom. Then restart in recovery, format cache, data (same as factory reset) and usbstorage (internal sdcard). This PIT will repartition (make sure repartition is ticked in odin) emmc and you will lose about 3gb internal sdcard.

Thanks forest, I was skimming you're thread on reviving emmc bricked devices and I must say that I'm not unfamiliar with command line as I am a Linuxer.
I will try the PIT file and I hope it works cause I don't really have time to meddle with partitions manually.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to go back to gingerbread with Odin or Heimdall?
I'm on SGSICS (4.0.3) ROM, with ICS Semaphore Kernel.
(Don't say -search it on youtube- )
Please make it easy to understand, thanks!
Search on YouTube, xda or google!
Seriously though there is loads of info about this.
Make sure kies is off.
Get Odin. Get pit 512.
Get stock ROM from Samfirmware. One with the three files. Phone, pda, csc..
Now start Odin. Select all four files.to the correct spot. Pit in pit, csc in csc etc. check re-partition
Once selected start phone in download mode. (power button, home button and volume down on my phone)
Connect phone to PC.
When Odin is ready hit start.
Phone should now reboot.
I have found occasionally phone doesn't boot at this point. This is no problem.
Repeat process. This time don't use pit file and make sure repartition is not checked. (use only phone, pda, csc)
This time everything should work.
Also do factory reset here and clear cache.

This guide will walk you through the process of installing a stock ROM on your phone.
Do this at your own risk, I'm not responsible for any bricks.
1. Things you need to read first before attempting anything:
Keep the phone properly connected to the PC!
This guide is only for those with a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (International version).
Before continuing, make a backup of all your data.
If the phone gets stuck at the boot screen, try doing the procedure again..
2. Download the following files
A Stock ROM/Firmware file.many available here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14273101&postcount=1 (and also more detailed
instructions and videos)
A .pit512 file : from link above also.
The Galaxy S Drivers
These are probably already installed on your PC (if you have Kies installed). But if not, download here.
Windows [32 bit]:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
Windows [64 bit]:

ODIN v1.3.
This is the program you'll use to put the stock firmware on the phone.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Make sure you have extracted the contents of the Firmware, .PIT and ODIN rar files to a folder.
2. Turn off your phone and boot into the Download Mode (Volume DOWN+Home+Power Button).
3. Start ODIN. Then connect the phone to the computer. ODIN will say 'Added!'.
4. Tick the Repartition option
5. Then, in ODIN, select the following files in .pit, PDA, CSC and PHONE
a) .PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
b) PDA: PDA_JS7.tar.md5
c) PHONE: PHONE_JPY.tar.md5
d) CSC: CSC_XEE_JS1.tar.md5
The stock rom you choose will maybe differ from the above( stock ROM (XWJS7 2.2.1)but just make sure that PDA PHONE CSC of your firmware are in the same places .

}
6. Now, click on Start.
7. When it's done, the progress bar in the top left will say PASS, and the phone will reboot. You can now disconnect the phone from the computer.
NOTE: If something goes wrong, your phone might show the following image:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Jv7eyrf0N...px-Samsung_Galaxy_S_Black_Screen_of_Death.jpg
DON'T PANIC! This happens sometimes if there is a USB connection error.
Disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery for 5 minutes, reinsert it, turn phone on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 2.
That's it. You are now on stock ROM

I can't help you if you don't provide more information..
What did you do when you tried to flash stock KK4 with Odin? What happened?
What Odin said when the flash was completed? Did the phone reboot itself?
Did you flash the version with the Bootloaders or not? (You need the Bootloaders version if you're coming from Eclair or Froyo)

You mentioned you were on Eclair, you can't flash something that is meant for GB and up without having the required bootloaders.
Do you get any response from your phone? Tried the button combos?
If so, you might have to buy/build a jig to force your phone in download mode and be able to flash KKA with bootloaders.
PS.: Next time, do more reading and make sure you fully understand what you're doing before flashing.

A USB jig? if so, you simply put it in your phone's usb jack (make sure you battery is charge) and it will force it in download mode. From there, read the steps I posted above.
JIG is not working and this is hard brick .. can't get downloadmode .. only showing firmware upgrade fail .. can't go to recovery or downloadmode ..

1) Use Jig to get downloadmode
If it's works just flash a rom / firmware using odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
2) when jig isn't help you and can't get in to downloadmode
remove your battery and put it again and open odin and connect your data cable to phone
Some times odin will get your phone with "Firmware upgrade fail!" ..
If your phone get into odin ( yellow signal ) make it fast and flash any bootloader file using it ( that compatible to captivate )...
after that you can go to downloadmode using Jig
3) If this not work try removing battery and pushing vol. keys and connect your phone with cable ..
In this sometimes your phone will get into odin .. flash a bootloader file using odin
Try 3rd step over 20 times there is a chance .. ( there is no other way to do this except that JTAG/riftbox .. i never want to try this )
I did this over 100 times and last my phone recognized by computer ..
But phone will not show any downloadmode symbol this will connect with that "Firmware upgrade fail!" screen ..
This is all i did

Oh ok, volume up and down + power button, you release them when you see the AT&T screen
Hey guys,
I own a SGS+ and tried to flash a ROM a few month ago.
Not sure which one it was in particular but it was a 4.1.2 ROM.
Normally it worked pretty well but that time it broke my phone apparently.
So now a few month later I tried to get it to work again.
My phone stucks at the splashscreen, easy said.
It boots till the splash screen and then it's on for about 3-4 minutes I guess and then the screen turns off.
But apparently it still runs because if I try to start it again over the power button it doesn't work.
I have to remove the battery, insert it again and then I can use the power button.
I tried several things and I'm out of information here.
So maybe one of you guys can help me out here?
Thanks for reading!
Try wiping cache an dalvik cache and fix permissions. If that doesn't help do a full wipe and install a new rom. If it still doesn't work, flash a stock rom via odin. Also, which recovery are you using?

Already did everything you mentioned, multiple times.
Well I used at first CWM 6.0.1.2 then switched to 6.0.2.8, then 6.0.3.2, then 6.0.3.6 and then TWRP 2.4.0.0 and TWRP 2.6.0.0.
I tried those who should be for the bricked phones.
Try to flash a new kernel, then flash a new ROM. You should be able to get into download mode...

That's not the problem.
I can get into download mode, I could get into download mode all the time.
I don't think you got my problem right:
My phone stucks at the splash screen.
Doesn't turn off only screen turns off but the phone is still running.
I can only reboot if I take the battery out.
So it boots up to the splashscreen and stucks.
I flashed a few new roms and nothing worked.
If you can get into download mode, try flahing a stock rom via odin.

I tried that one too, no success.
The phone still stucks in the splashscreen, nothing changed.

Download BroodRom(Not ics or jb just the old GB edition) it's a lifesaver.
1.Go to recovery.
2.Format EVERYTHING(data, cache, dalvik AND system.)
3.Download mode
4.Flash broodrom with Odin.
That should work!

Not really, still the same.
My phone still stucks in splashscreen.
Does nobody else know a solution?
I can flash normal, go to download mode easily and everything else too.
It just stucks in the splashscreen.
Follow my tutorial about how to flash back to stock. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44047896&postcount=2

Maybe you didn't flash appropriate ROM for your device. Read this thread, especially the first post by our forum mate xsensman and try to check if it could be concerning also your device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890667
Even through I know how to flash, I tried the two links from the guys above and tried them.
Again nothing happened either.
Flashing was okay, everything was fine.
Unfortunately the phone still stucks in splashscreen.
No one else knows what I could do?
verify serial No

Mate, something is strange there. With splashscreen you mean bootloop, right? So you see the logo, but the phone doesn't really loads the Android?
OK, here we go: please remove the battery and write down your serial No and google a bit is it really i9001? There are about 20 different types of SGS so just to make sure which model do you have.
That bootloop can happen for several reasons, but I would assume that in your case it happens either for:
bootloader isn't working properly
you haven't flashed the proper ROM for your device.
I suspect very strongly the bootloader, so re-flashing the bootloader via Odin, theoretically, should revive your phone. Just check (as written above) do you REALLY have i9001, (as otherwise -if not- you could brick it with the bootloader for i9001):
First post, "5. Follow the instruction" (all files there)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32144697
I'm 100% sure that I have a real i9001, not a special edition or something like that.
And I flashed before it got broken a few month and the roms worked just fine.
Well but then it broke somehow.
I just see that my phone with the CWM-Recovery can't format /data and hangs.
Can't do anything unless I remove the battery and boot up again.
Could this be a hint for you guys?

I have no idea what may that be, but are you sure your phone is bricked?
Have you tried to use normal TWRP 2.6 instead of that one for bricked phones?
I don't know, but maybe this helps:
Guide: How to Recover from a bootloop http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660596
@tetakpatak: Yes, I did it like the post "suggested".
@3L4CK_5C0RP10N: No, I'm actually not sure, that's why I wrote "bricked/broken".
I'm not the best guy at those things as you can guess.
No, I didn't tried the normal one, gonna try it now, atleast it's worth trying.
I read the post you linked me here and tried those things, unfortunately nothing happened.
Even tried it with ADB, also no solution found there.
But thanks already for the work guys!
suggest you try the following:-
1) power it down, remove battery, remove SIM card and Ext SD card and press and hold your power button for at least 30 seconds to a min, before reinserting battery and entering CWM recovery
2) In CWM recovery, enter Mounts and Storage and Format every partition, that can be formatted, repeat it twice ( You will lose all your data ) meaning you will be trying to get a clean environment for a fresh start. Do not reboot but pull out battery, press power for a few seconds and insert battery.
If you need your data, in mounts and storage, enter usb storage, here with usb connected to PC you can copy your entiere internal SDcard to PC, for salvage later.
3) get into Download mode, to flash the oldest i9000 Stock ROM 2.3.3 with AriesVe.ops using Odin 4.43 ( with ops ticked) How to flash follow this
download ROM from here

Hello, peeps!
So I was when starting an application, my phone doesn't respond. Tried the power button and it didn't work so I removed the battery and placed it back in.
Here's when my nightmare starts. My phone is stuck at the "GT-N7000" screen, and I cannot proceed further. I'm unable to start Recovery Mode (Vol Up + Power + Home), and only Download Mode works.
However, I tried flashing stock roms, Odin showed no progress even after almost 2 hours.
What seems to be the issue? Is it a hard brick?
Questions should be in the Q&A section.
Is odin able to detect the phone.. ( the port square in odin turns yellow/blue?).
check if there are any Kies processes running in the task manager.. kill them, restart odin and restart phone in download mode and try again.

stuck at the NAND Write part, and the progress bar shows no progress at all (the green bar thing). Could this mean hard brick?
do you have warranty? If yes, take it to Samsung and tell them to rectify it. If no warranty then, you will need to get into recovery may be by flashing a kernel using odin.

Wow...thank you for such quick replies!!
Nope, no longer in warranty..Can I have a link to the kernel file?
Thank you so much!
Before you go about this.. try a reboot PC, reboot download mode phone. try a original USB cable and main USB port of pc and flash again,
If above still stops at NAND
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
look for a tar.md5 file which is odin flashable. If you remember the build number of you phone, then pick that else get any JB kernel and flash using odin. check if odin gives a pass.

I've flashed it, unfortunately it's stuck at NAND (kernel flash). Are there any alternatives?

Sorry for double posting, here's the screenshot..
you dont need to select it everywhere... just the PDA ONLY.
1. download http://d-h.st/FVh.. this is a PIT file.. select it in the PIT partition. Check it and also repartition.
2. select the kernel file in the PDA..
3. press start... (you will need to reboot into download mode every time to start flashing. so remove the battery.. reboot into download mode.. (vol down+home+power)... after you get the screen volume up to continue.. once the screen shows DOWNLOADING, then connect to pc .. open odin
Thanks again!
How long does it normally take for the entire process to complete? The progress bar of "Set Partition" isn't moving at all
There seems to be some issue with the USB Port or Cable or PC.. you need to check ...a full flash of rom takes about 5-10 mins.
use only the back usb port, don't use the front or extension usb ports, they often throw up problems.. good luck
elprix and
I tried everything suggested, but the progress bar doesn't even move
What are the symptoms of hard brick btw?
EDIT : I tried with Odin3 V3.09, and it is stated Re-Partition failed.
EDIT2 : Tried multiple files, progress bar not moving at all.
It don't write to NAND. But it still is able to set partition. Have you tried a different pc? Uninstall Kies completely and then again install Samsung usb drivers.

Hi everyone!
I experience a similar problem as the original poster! Yesterday my phone was fine, but then it rebooted and got stuck. Now I can only get in to "Download mode". There it says:
Odin Mode
Product Name: GT-N7000
Custom binary download: No
Current binary: Samsung Official
I've had it running Paranoid Android successfully for months and then this happened! So where do I go from here,,,? I have Odin downloaded, drivers installed, so what should I try to flash and in what order?
I would be thankful for any help - feel a bit handicapped without a phone!

Did you try it to flash stock Jelly Bean?
If you can enter ONLY in download mode, that is the single solution, before Service Center.

I went from XXLQ4 to this that I use now. You will not have a problem by using this version.

Download and try with it. So your volume up key is fine? When you get in download mode you hit it to enter in it?
And after installation in Odin - it goes to recovery to finish installation? Do you see that Android with open stomach?
Similar to this, maybe it is on the other side...

If he still cant boot / go in recovery with firmware which you gave him, is possible to extract stock jb (.tar),put cocore kernel (version with recovery) then make it .tar again and flash in odin? I think will work and he will be able to go in recovery.

Yes, but it will increase binary counter. If he has warranty. Sounds like there is something wrong with kernel partition... Installation does not go to recovery after finishing steps in Download mode.
