XPERIA X8 boot problem - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed ICS on my XPERIA X8 and it freezes at boot. And I cannot go to recovery mode, where is my backup. I know I need to use FlashTool but I don't know how to use it, because it says:
03/021/2012 15:21:18 - INFO - <- This level is successfully initialized

03/021/2012 15:21:53 - INFO - Device disconnected
And I cannot flash the original image.
Hot to connect the phone?
With " Press and hold back button then plug in the usb cable"?
Now I can flash it but it isn't reboot just say device disconnected, then device connected in flash mode, then device disconnected, then flashing aborted

nearly the same problem here trying to unlock the bootloader on my E15i.
Would appreciate if anyone has a suggestion how to overcome this. Thanks

Try this

What?! First of all - not volume down but BACK button.
In flashtool directory You will have drivers folder. Install those drivers. Then reboot Your PC. Copy Your firmware package into firmwares in flashtool directory (.ftf files). Than run flashtool, click on flash, choose the package, click ok, flashtool will aks You to connect Your phone in flash mode. Plug USB cable into PC. Plug in USB cable into phone and while doing this You must hold back button. And flashtool should recognize Your device and start flashing.

I'm trying GingerDX now, and I making an ''XPERIA X8 MEGAPACK''

Anyway, I do not know why this is:
When I first installed gingerDX i have installed many apps. And when I'll removed this backup, and I installed this rom again, the phone freezes at the boot screen.
(I know how to do it. I flashed the stock rom from my backup, and It is working. But I cannot make a backup from this rom

Because You should do a full wipe When You install ROM again there are some files from old one. And this may cause boot problem

Hi, I've tried this but it doesn't work. My phone just keeps rebooting itself after SE logo animation is done. What can i do?

Generally speaking, bootloops imply you are missing the x15 Baseband required for custom ROMs to work: Follow the mediafire link in B.Jay's profile and find the x15 Baseband corresponding to your X8 version (It's in the sticker under the battery)... Hope this helps.
EDIT: Update your FlashTool Version!!!! http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/

now its rooted and i want to install different roms what should i do i mean what should be my next step? should i install Clockwork Mod recovery if yes then how??
Next Step
If you just wanted to install ROM's then you didn't have to unlock boot loader
you could have just rooted it using superoneclick or the way you did and install a recovery by following the link in the following thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921652
then press backspace during load to enter recovery , full wipe(if your now in stock rom)and install custom.zip or update.zip of any rom you like(that works on stock kernel) and reboot.
But since you are unlocked...you can install a better faster kernel like naa or alf
by following the thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350484
(you search for alf yourself in development forum)
and then install a rom that uses these kernel the same way using recovery or flash tool if you hav ".ftf"
1 more thing i want to install Clockwork mod instead of xrecovery how to do that ?
2ndly in order to check bootoader on HTC cellphone we press power button + volume down button
how to check bootloader on X8?
Never Installed Clock Work Mod
I have Never Installed Clock Work Mod...but it always seems to come with all ROM's I install. First I install xrecovery and install any popular ROM....n then TADAA i have CW MOD
Anyway you can install it using x8 toolbox by going here,

or check this

On PC: Go to Alfs kernel thread--> download Alfs v07 kernel--> place it to /flashtool/firmwares, run flashtool, select flash (lightning icon), select Alfs v07, click ok. On phone: Turn off phone, press back button and hold it, attach phone to PC while pressing back button, green led appears, release back button, let the PC work. When Flashtool give the "flashing finished" message, unplug the phone. Turn it on. When it shows kernel logo, press back repeatedly to enter recovery. Install custom.zip, choose your ROM, wait, reboot.
This should work. If not, try PC companion or Sony Ericcson Update Service.

X8 Can't boot to flashmode

Hi guys, i don't know what happened but since the last time i flashed kernel, i can't boot to flashmode anymore.. I'm using nAa ICS 2 kernel and MiniCM9 3.0.1 by nAa.. I want to flash to nAa-ics-3 and then update to 3.0.2 but can't boot my phone to flashmode.. It just doesn't respond while I'm holding the back button.. Tried installing the LATEST version of flashtool, tried removing and reinstalling usb drivers, rebooting pc several times but nothing helps.
Flash tool just says that the phone is connected but usb debugging is off.. But when i boot it back into normal state, debugging is on, kernel and software is recognized and everything is working as it should..
Had the same problem using the latest version of FlashTool!
I then tried v 0.6.9.1 and it worked flawlessly, so try this version!
Still nothing.. Here's the output from the FlashTool
Code:

I just can't figure it out.. :/
1 disconnect your device
2 in flashtool click on the flash icon -> flashmode -> select what you want to flash -> click ok
3 flashtool will say you to connect the phone while holding down the back key. do it
you need to connect the phone after flashtool says so, not before (according to the log, you connected the phone and then choosed file to flash)
Put on the stock rom (the one we get from the Sony) or backup u have of your stock rom.. then try to flash it..
You can get stock rom by using PC companion and update o repair or a ftf file from our own XDA...

Try it only when there is no other way out...

Use SUES to revert back to stock rom/kernel and reflash from there. Also had this problem a few months back changing kernels.
With nAa and Alfs for cm7 kernels u dont have to hold back button it boots to flash mode automaticly when powered off and u plug the cable.
@sidhart The phone is recognized by PCC but as X10 not X8 xDDD So I'm afaid to revert to stock flash/kernel over PCC..
@Pipi14 I'm using nAa ICS kernel ( 02 ) for CM9, you think it might be the same?

Yeah i have used nAa kernel from the beginning and all his kernels automaticly boot in to flashmode when turned off and plugging the cable. I used MiniCm9 3.0.2 for two days reverted back to MiniCm7 2.2.0 cuz Its kinda slow for me still. But maybe next release of MiniCm9 will be my daily rom.

[Q] Xperia V LT25i: Problems Flashing Official 9.1.A.1.140

Hello guys. Here is the problem i'm facing.
A while back i decided to apply CM10 to my Xperia V and i went thru all the unlock/root steps necessary.
Well, after a while it started to freeze on screen rotation so i wanted to go back to to STOCK.
I downloaded some FTF i found (9.1.A.1.140 Nordic), and tried to flash via flashtool.
I do the volume down thing when connecting to the pc, but it just doesnt flash and stops at:
14/004/2013 17:04:06 - INFO - <- This level is successfully initialized

It connects and after a minute or so, it disconects.
I couldnt find a way to unroot my phone but i tried relocking the bootloader but that just kinda bricked the phone until i unlocked it again.
So, how do i reflash the stock firmware? anyone has an official firmware packed as zip like the customs? any other tool i can try other than flashtool?
Did you install the driver correctly? same problem with me, i changed with my laptop from my computer it works perfectly. U have to test with the other computer
first just dont connect ur device to pc
open flash tool and select ur stock fw and hit the flash button
after "Preparing files for flashing" in ur flash tool it will automatically asks u to connect ur device then connect in watever mode it requires and it will start flashing.
yes u can download the stock deodexed rooted firmware of XV in .zip

Hard Bricked Z3compact

Hi evryone.
I was trying to install cyanogenmod on my phone, but after getting the root acess, when i tried to to install it, it said that there was some kind of problem because the nightly rom i had on my Sd wasnt the right one for my model.
I wanted to place the links for the cyanogenmod rom i downloaded and the tutorial i followed to install it, but since this is my first post, XDA doesnt allow me to place any outside links.
Now whenever i boot my phone it stops on the Sony experia screen and it doens do anything else. No other menus. Just the Sony screen. The only command it receives is the Power and Vol up to turn it down again.
Please, is there any solution? Is my phone 100% bricked? Is there anyway to connect it to the pc and place the Xperia original files/rom manually??
I sent an email to sony even tough i know my warranty is voided. I have had some other problems with their assistence so i dont expect much help.
I just cant afford another selfphone and my mother´ll be super mad if i tell her i bricked it.
Thank you.

It is only a soft brick DO NOT WORRY - I have also done this, and seems most common with older versions of TWRP
Download flashtool and download a .ftf file from HERE (anyone will do they are all the same)
now open up flashtool and it will tell you to move files from *folder* to *.flashtool folder* also place the .ftf file in the new folder
now click the lightning symbol - flashmode
click the firmware you downloaded
and click flash
now on your device hold down the POWER + VOLUME buttons until the device vibrates 3 times (this will turn it off)
hold the VOLUME DOWN ( & nothing else - make sure the phone is off for this) while holding vol down, plug the phone into the computer. You should see the led turn red then green/blue
flashtool will now see the device in flashmode and flash the firmware (when the firmware has been read by flashtool)

I am now downloading the files. Thank you so much for your help.
I think it is important to mention that I have formatted the internal storage. and wiped the data and user cache. The error message saying it wasnt the right rom appeard after e formatted it. Is this still a soft brick? :/

Yep, from experience I don't think it is actually possible to hard brick the Z3C (I might be wrong)
If the device still reboots when the volume buttons are pressed, your phone is recoverable <--- Soft Brick
If the device is on a black screen and it won't reboot, the phone is not recoverable <--- Hard Brick

I think important and useful steps and tutorials like these should be gathered in a FAQ thread and be sticked. All frequent problems and solutions are all over the place and we need such tutorials an solutions in an easy accesible place.
I think I really hard-bricked my Z3C... flashed a recovery with TWRP, which got a custom theme with extra features (able to flash .img files) made by @z31s1g. Now my device won't reboot nor enter flash mode or fastboot mode - just red LED is blinking when connecting to USB, screen is black (no Sony logo or anything). When trying to boot it vibrates one time, but doesn't do anything...
Any chance to get it working again without sending it to Sony?
Edit:
Sony sent me a new phone, did not have to pay anything, as it seems they couldn't repair it and weren't even able to recognize that my TA was deleted... So got it as a warranty "repair".
What?!?! Ive been reading it all wrong, i can get a new phone for making a problem, as they dont care about their own faults
btw how did you brick it? just curious for developement

Same thing happened to me. I downloaded an older version of flashtool (0.9.18.6) because I couldn't get the newer versions to work and I flashed a stock kitkat rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706 (Specifically the "23.0.A.2.93 - Unbranded - USA (1289-7524)" version - make sure you get the right version for your model). With this process, you don't need to turn your phone on. Just make sure you know how to use flashtool correctly.
That's all I did. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Did it complain about not being able to find drivers for your device? That's what it says when I plug my Z3c in. And I've attempted to install drivers using the drivers tool in flashtool/drivers/.

I created an account to say that this method works. However, using flashtool (using windows 10) can create a small problem because on mine (at least at the start) the drivers would not load. The workout involves going to advanced startup and getting windows to boot without driver signing. I'm sure that you can download something that permanently disables it, also. Using that, I was able to install every driver without a problem. Just be sure to reboot normally or you might run into issues when flashing (I was unable to flash properly until I restarted).

Thanks! This worked! Any idea on how to avoid getting stuck in this loop while rooting the phone?
Hi Guys,
Unfortunately, I think I'm closer to the subject title: HardBricked
My compact Z3 is completely bricked ... due to severe, numerous & disorganized flash.
- No boot at all: backlight but no display.
- No more access to fastboot or TWRP recovery
- FlashTool and its flashmode seem to work: I manage to block / unblock the bootloader,
- But flashing does not work.
I'm under Gnu/Linux, but I'Ve tried with Win7 (drivers Ok) with the same result.
Here is FlashTool log:

I read this somewhere but did not believe it:angel:

Hi
Can someone suggest a way fwd, I have an z3c I was trying to press back into life with an OS new enough for messenger etc.
I was following the instructions from LinageOS 16, got thru unlocking and into fastboot, all going as described until it said sideload the package. When I did this the UI on the phone said the package was for z3c and that my phone was a ".".
Part of the linageos instructions were to wipe parts of memory and cache, which I think is why when I reboot the phone now, it just sticks on the logo, I cannot get back to the fastboot UI either.
Using the flashtool on my PC I can still connect and load the stock fw but it makes no difference.
I did backup a couple of sections, with TWRP, I thought to the sdcard, before I started, but I cannot see them on the card now, could they be hidden?
Or have I done the impossible and really bricked a z3c?
Chris

softbricked z3c

hi!
first off all thank you all for contributing to this forum, you guys really rule!
i have a problem....
as the title say i softbricked my z3 compact trying to flash MM on it.
i forgot to click the "allow unknown sources" on the phone before he procedure
i know, i`m stupid. my bad
but now when i tried to flash even stock kitkat on it the flashtool errors in one moment sayin "for flashtool unknown sources has to be enabled"
going thru the forum i saw a thread about the usb debugging mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2778437
he fixed it with using an older version of flashtool, but when i install an older version it asks to connect by pressing the back button not the volume down to enable flashing mode...
so i have 2 questions...
is there a way to flash without having the unknown sources on?
i installed the adb all-in-one but not successful to implement the command using the terminal
how to enable flashmode by using an older version when i dont have a back button? (its not arc s )
1. You don't need unknown sources enabled to flash
2. To flash hold down the volume down button while plugging your phone into the computer
Click the THIS LINK to my thread about a bricked Z3C

Do you have the the Sony drivers installed?
Did you install the ADB drivers (run the exe in the drivers folder within Flashtool folder). If you have Windows 10 this last step is difficult, you have to restart the machine in safe mode and disable driver signature checking.
You must have your phone turned off completely before you start (power button and volume up till you get three vibrations), leave it unplugged from the PC
Start flashtool and select which ftf you want to use, Exclude TA, press build. wait for the invitation from flashtool to plug your phone in. Then hold the volume down as you insert the usb plug, you can let go as soon as it starts doing something
There is a guide to the flashtool here, beware it's a powerful tool capable of bricking your phone
