Hi everyone,
I'm new to XDA and this is my first thread. I have been using WRE 1.5 on my Sensation XL with great pleasure; even though ROM is amazing the only thing missing for me, was HTC Beats.
I've tried searching XDA forum for a way to install Beats to WRE but to no avail.
Fortunately I managed to do it myself; I pulled out htc.music and htc.beatsnotify apks from ICS + Sense 3.6 and installed them both on my WRE 1.5.
I have attached both apks as a zip file.
Do not try to install them as you do with normal apps as they will not work.
You could use root explorer to add both files in /system/app; don't forget to reboot.
Alternatively you can use adb.
A short tutorial to use adb:
Connect your phone to your pc (make sure debugging mode is on);
Open command prompt and navigate to android-sdk tools folder. (e.i. cd C:/Andoroid-sdk/Tools)
Then type in command prompt:
su
adb remount
adb push com.htc.music.apk /system/app
adb reboot
Do the same for com.htc.HtcBeatsNotify.apk
I tried this method and worked absolutely fine; I have Beats and Beats Notifier on my WRE.
Hope you'll enjoy it.

Below are links to my dropbox to download both apks:

Do not try to install them with any file explorer as will not work.
Instead you can use adb.

Brilliant work! Put [MOD] in your thread title mate. People will come here then. Also maybe PM the Forum Moderator who could move this for you.

Thanks for your suggestions; I've changed the title and PM the moderator.
Also I have attached a zip file as the links to dropbox weren't working.

Adb push commands listed are same as using root explorer and copying apks there. After reboot it should be fine. If you can get apk signed then will install as normal apps do without need for push via Adb or root exp. Drops apks into /system/app then reboot is same as adb push /system/apps. Same thing done differently

Thanks for that. It makes sense now as I've tried root explorer myself but possibly forgot to reboot. Will edit the post so people will know that works with root explorer.

Connect phone to computer. Make sure its on charge or sync. Take htccamera.apk and put in tools folder of Sdk on hard drive of computer. Go to start and type in the search field cmd. Go to the tools directory of Sdk while in the command promt. Then type
Adb remount
Adb push HtcCamera.apk /system/app
I think that's the name of the app LOL
After that the app should be in there. I don't know if it will work on that rom though cause I believe its a senseless rom. But best of luck

Hi danger rat. Im alittle new at this. How do I do that. And if I do what else will I lose?
Is there an original keyboard apk that I can just install?
Very much appreciated
If you don't know how to restore a backup, you probably didn't make one...
The keyboard has more than just the apk to it, so it's a bit more complicated than just switching the old apk back...
Ask in the keyboard thread, because I'm sure you're not the only one.

reflash the rom that you are using. and, since you are kinda new to this, ALWAYS make a nandroid backup in recovery. one da it WILL save your ass
...or you can do that, too. xD
Might wanna back up your apps and settings first, with Titanium backup.

Or save time and flashing just adb push old latinime and the lib.so back in and reboot.

Hi ilostchild. How do I go about doing that. Thanks everyone!
If you got android sdk installed you can do it . But if you don't its best to titanium back up everything you need and reflash your current rom
You can also do it with Root Explorer, or Terminal Emulator...

I was gonna say terminal but then I thought if he did it would probably fc soon as he did. Root explore would probably be the easiest way to go
I do have terminal and also sdk.
How would I go about it in terminal and or sdk? Thanks a bunch
Get a copy of your existing ROM.
Extract the following files:
LatinIME.apk
libjni_latinime.so
The apk goes in /system/app
The lib.so goes in /system/lib
You'll have to remove (rm) the existing files...
It will be far easier for you to do in Root Explorer.
Reboot when done.

Ok Sdk way
Adb shell
Su
#mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtd3block /system
#exit
Adb push latinime.apk /system/app
Then
Adb push lib.so /system/lib
Adb shell
Su
#reboot
And there you go got stock back..works both ways too if want to push gb kb
but to do this make sure Adb is in environment variable
If not gonna have to put all files in sdk folder where Adb is at

Stupid question....
Surely re flashing CM6.1 would restore to stock so to speak?
(I took a nandroid so no worries if it would not )
Can't it be as easy as someone giving me a .zip of the stock nexus kb and installing it from recovery?

Indeed. Just tested that myself whilst having a break... Gotta reflash the kb now lol, I like it...
So I found these sounds from a Windows Phone 7 system dump. They are now in OGG format and are ready and named to be used as lock and unlock sounds. These sounds fit nicely in with HTC Sense as they sound somewhat like the quietly brilliant jingle. Now these currently are not for the faint of heart, as they will require some quick ADB magic. Enough blabbing, on to the instructions and the download link.
Instructions:
Download both files from the below directory
Make a nandroid or backup the lock.ogg and unlock.ogg files somehow in /system/media/ui/
Run the command "adb remount"
Run two more commands "adb push [lock.ogg] /system/media/ui/" "adb push [unlock.ogg] /system/media/ui/"
Reboot and make sure lock sounds are enabled
Download:
download.cpcookieman.com
(why yes, this is a perfect opportunity to try out my brand new server)
the link to the server is not working please fix. Thank you for your hard work
Root explorer is much more simple.
Link doesn't do anything, and i agree that Root explorer is waaay easier.

Does anyone currently have a flashable version of the multitouch keyboard that works with Edify and is compatible with Comm Rom? I recently updated to the latest Clockwork recovery and it seems that all the ones I had are not compatible with Edify. I really miss it.

Just push the apk and the lib file via adb.
Drop the files in your tools folder in sdk (if you don't have sdk installed...shame on you )
Then open a terminal and enter the following...
adb push LatinIME.apk /system/app
adb push libjni_latinime.so /system/lib
then reboot and you should be all set.

I'm trying right now, but turning on USB Debugging seems to be causing my phone to completely lock up until a battery pull. Grrrrr, I hate ADB. I can already see this wasting hours of my time tonight. Thanks, though. I hope I can make this work.

Shouldn't be doing that comrom has debugging enabled by default it also mounts the system partition as rw. Did you change kernels or something?

Hi all,
Was not really sure where to put this apologies if its the wrong place.
I recently created my own analog clock, I'm using CM7 RC0, I simply replaced the clock background .png in the original desktopclock.apk, renamed it, signed it and then installed it through filemanager.
Now, it works fine! I was very happy, until I rebooted my phone today, got back onto the desktop and it had reset to the original anolog clock! Tried it again and sure enough everytime I reboot I have to reinstall the .apk!
Anybody have any idea why on earth this would happen?
Many thanks,
Sean
This was originally brought to my attention with the HTC_IME mod by Jonasl. I installed a themed version over the top of the one already installed by default in /system/app and on reboot the original (quite frankly ugly) keyboard was back...
for some reason I do not know, you have to manually un-install the previous version. Don't know why...
use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644909
to un-install the original apk for the clock, then push your app into /system/app using adb. reboot and it should all be sorted... I hope.
Great stuff, thank you for your help. Now I wonder how to do this using linux, I will look into it, at least I know what the problem is

I'm on linux right now, and I did this to remove my stock messaging app not 3 hours ago...
Just open up your terminal and use adb, assuming you have the androidsdk on your computer...
If you don't it's going to be a little harder, you're going to have to find a root exploring file manager and delete the analog clock app from /system/app and then you're going to have to put the new one there AFTER rebooting.
If you want adb just ask and I'll tell you how to get it.
1. download the android sdk from http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r12-linux_x86.tgz
2. open up the .tgz and extract it to /home/-your_user_name/androidsdk
3. open up terminal and type
su
PATH=$PATH:/home/-your_user_name/androidsdk/tools
adb
adb devices <-------(make sure your device is connected and in debug mode. If that fails just boot into recovery)
qiuness said:
adb shell
su
cd /system/app
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm -r analogclock.apk

4. install your new, themed app
abd push /path/to/your/app.apk /system/app
5. reboot.
Brilliant guys thank you very much, its all sorted, easy once you know how
