Ever since installing a Rom on my Vivid, I wasn't able to get any wifi without having a network to connect to. I've also been unable to send or receive multimedia messages.
I was told this had something to do with APNs, but I am clueless on the whole subject.
Anyone kind enough to help me resolve this?
edit: Never mind, I just selected a random APN and it worked ^^.

Hi, gang. I've been surfing the forum silently for a little while and got my G1 all rooted and hacked the other night. It's been awesome and thus far I've been able to resolve any issues I've had in the process.
This one is throwing me off but I know someone has run into it before. Sometimes when someone calls me, they say that it rings twice and then goes to voicemail. I never get any missed call notification or anything. It's like the call never existed. After testing, I found that data transfer is taking precedence over voice data when they both try to come through at once. It's really annoying!
Does anyone know of a way to reverse the importance of these 2 things? Obviously I want to receive my calls if they happen to arrive when data is transferring. My phone constantly accesses some sort of data throughout the day (only texts and email).
For reference:
- White T-Mobile G1
- ROM: OpenEclair v1.2.1 BACONWEAVE
Thanks in advance.
No one else has run into this? A friend said I could try a wipe and re-flashing the ROM and see if that works. I'm thinking of going back to Cyanogen and seeing if the problem occurs with that.
Roaming in Citrus Springs?
Check Settings/Wireless & Networks settings/Mobile network settings/Data roaming. The choice is to connect to data services when roaming. This should not be selected.
Regards
David,
I totally overlooked that setting. Before my phone was rooted, I apparently had disabled this but failed to do so after modding. I just tested it by loading a website in the browser and making a call to it while it was loading. The call came through without a hitch!
Thanks a lot. I had searched high and low but no one ever mentioned this. I thought I had already tried it actually, but I was wrong. Much appreciated.
Okay, apparently it was only a partial fix. If wifi is enabled, the web browser just defaults to using that (obviously). When I disabled wifi and loaded a webpage while calling the phone, the call went to voicemail after 2 rings and never showed up on my phone.
I've never had this happen before. I've only seen this after flashing everything required to root the phone. It's not a huge deal but it baffles me. I guess when you're not on 3G, it only allows data through if both voice and data are trying to transfer at the same time.
For the past month or so I've been having issues where I don't receive a call or a message even though I have full signal. Same happens with outgoing calls and messages. I'll try to text somebody and the phone will indicate that the text could not be sent.
This happens almost on a daily basis and randomly. Usually rebooting the phone fixes the issue.
I'm assuming there's a problem with the radio?
Phone is completely stock, no roms were touched, it's a rogers phone, locked, etc.
Anybody have a clue as to what the issue might be?
Thanks
Make sure your APN settings are correct.
Contact your service provider, Ive had that problem before with T-Mobile and they were able to troubleshoot it.
Worst case scenario, your phone has a hardware issue.
Thanks for the advice!
I used the following settings that I found thru google since I don't have time right now to be on hold for 45 minutes with rogers.

Hopefully it fixes the problems!
Legend221, I'd like to thank you! Your tip solved my issue and I am getting proper service with my phone now.
Cheers!
Hi,
I have a Samsung I9000 Galaxy S device running Gingerbread 2.3.3 (Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVH-CL184813) and I can't seem to send or receive any MMS.
I don't really know exactly when this problem started because I just recently had to use MMS and noticed it was broken. I'm sure at some point it was working correctly.
When I receive a MMS I get the notification and in the message there is a "Download" button. Touching the button it give me a notification that the download failed.
I've checked the apn settings over and over again.
I don't have any other issues with my phone.
Please let me know if you had encounter this problem and if you have any solutions.
late reply - saw this while trying to find a solution to my new problem.
could not send or receive mms on my i9000m without using telstra wap apn (not ideal as not on a data plan, only prepaid talk/text).
finally got a prepaid data plam\n so all was good til today when suddenly lost ability to mms again - send or receive. trying to play with apn options again but now also find that i can't delete all the existing apns and start from scratch. the 'default' telstra ones...mms and internet, obviously not working and i can't get rid of them...but can start a new one.
wonder if i can delete them via root explorer, but don't know where to find them in there. will keep looking and update if i resolve this issue.
bummer.....
I don't use MMS often, so I can't say for sure root had anything to do with this, but I haven't been able to send or receive MMS messages for a few weeks now. I've looked around for a bit, and the only solution I see is to make sure your data is working and your wifi is off, both of which I've done. If anyone else has been having this problem recently and has been able to solve it, please let me know.

Yes I have this same issue. The only thing other than root that I did was disable CarrierIQ as outlined in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2774730
I can't receive group texts or any MMS for that matter.
My APN is default.
Same problem. Really bugged me bc I usually HATE 3rd party message apps. Gave Chomp SMS a try though and I love it. Made it my default and it is much better than the stock messaging app.
Had the same problem. Was running Textra, and after root, no MMS. Once I deleted AdBlocker, no more issues.
Has anyone else on T-Mobile have trouble sending/receiving MMS messages over cellular? I'll get a notification that I got a photo to download, but it just sits there spinning. If I tried to send a photo it just sits there on the sending part.
However, if I get on WiFi it's fine. Just cellular. On Android Messenger. Anyone else having this issue?

Hey TJK..........
Did you use the APN settings mentioned here? Scroll down to "Android APN settings". If your settings don't match those, then create a NEW APN and copy over everything EXACTLY as written on that site (which is OFFICIAL T-Mobile btw), then Save, then restart your phone to be safe. Then ask someone you know to text you a pic (aka MMS) and if you receive it, you're good. You could also try sending that person a pic if you like, but I bet if one works the other will too.
Note: For the APN Type line, make sure you have NO spaces after each comma.
That's weird about it only happening on cellular, but anyway, try all that and let me know what happens.
Good luck!
I didn't have any issues when I was on T-Mo. I have quite a few contacts that refuse to use anything other than standard texting, so I end up with a lot of MMS messages.
