I don't have 10 posts yet so I had to post it here, though i've been a application developer for 4 years so I'm not a ''''''''''n00b''''''''''
So Rooting with a Mac is kind of a pain in the ass.
For some reason, I'm sure it's a anomaly, adb and fastboot wouldn't work on a vm.
SO, I'm making this! Introducing....

If anyone wants to help me work on it (it's written in applescript; because I'm lazy) let me know and I'll send you the project, Just when you make improvements and add more, send me updated files.
Beta testers will also be needed soon!!!!!
UPDATE~
I've been working hard on this to get it out ASAP except I'm having a massive problem with trying to run a command and letting the user choose the Unlock_code.bin themselves.
I was thinking of packaging it as just a shell script until I was done with the GUI but if anyone knows applescript (or their way around with xcode, we could make it a bit more powerful) please PM me.
UPDATE 2~
So I made the shell script ready for everyone. try it out and let me know how it works.
1. keep in mind you're doing this at your own risk!
2. this isn't the full program. ALL this will do is root your device! if you want the full program I'd suggest waiting!
I am on a Mac, don't know apple script but I could help out. Tired of using my wifes computer. Let me know what I can do.

any kind of Mac related Rooting, bootloader unlocking or Rom installers im sure would be a welcomed addition. Hopefully people will understand what they are doing to their phone, and that there is always a risk involved.
But otherwise looks clean thus far
Drew
zacgoesrawr, i went ahead and moved here to the development section. Thank you for your contribution.
Should I put in PG's (r.i.p please resurrect soon) ICS firmware for those who'd want to install that while they're at it?
also I was thinking about putting CWM in there too

I'm in! I will have the Vivid in a few days (hopefully), and it would be nice to do everything in my natural OS.
I'm not familiar with Apple Script either but I am a graphic designer by trade so I can help with graphics, icons; or whatever might be needed.
I'm also going to throw this idea out there just for kicks. Maybe change the name to:
Vivid Fruit Root [VFR]. Just a suggestion, I can always call it that in my head. I'm just not a fan of the iNames personally. I am a fan of this project though so let me know if you need some help.

I will start putting a few ideas together. I work continuously, and am a stay at home toddler wrangler, so I will have to piece things together in that elusive spare time, so it might take me a little bit. It should be quick and simple, but not too quick.
As far as the actual app, are you going to just save as an app from within Apple Script Editor? (I am a little familiar I guess). So maybe an .icns package might be needed as well?

I will present a few ideas, we can narrow down, refine, and go from there. I have all the software I need, and developer tools, so .icns are no problem (I change and modify mine all the time). Your more than welcome to some psd's and whatever I create though. I have a few client priorities but will start laying some things out in between projects.
I'm not a developer, but am a Mac user and would love to test this =)
I'm completely sick of having to borrow someone's computer for this.

This sounds good to me, but it's obviously zac-attacks brainchild/passion project, so that's probably for him to decide.
In other news, my wife was in a minor car-accident Friday evening (she's fine) but my spare time decreased even more, so I don't know how involved or helpful I can be, or when.
Also, I got your PM Qberty, and will get back to you soon, things have been a little hectic. I'm not blowing you off; just FYI.
On a positive note, I picked up my Vivid today, and its pretty amazing, can't wait to alter it.

Hey Everyone!!
I am thinking about creating an online kitchen (similar to UOT) but for HTC Sense UI MODs. This includes Lock Rings, Weather Lockscreen Backgrounds, Docks, ability to remove/add time/carrier etc.. In short, a total customization of the Sense UI.
I believe that many users would love this and it would save time for the developers who are constantly creating Lock Rings/Sense Themes etc. As there are so many HTC devices, it is difficult to create the same MODs on all devices.
I'm planning to implement the whole thing in Node.JS + Socket.IO. It can also be done simply with HTML + PHP but then if there is high traffic, I believe the first option would be better.
Therefore the skills required would mainly be knowledge of programming languages such HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript etc.
I have started working a bit on this, but it would not be possible to do this alone and I would require some help. If anyone is experienced enough and able to help me out with this, it would be very much appreciated.
Please contact me via PM or email me at [email protected]
Thanks!

Excellent Idea, if you need any help with a host and setting up a webpage I can get that done for you. You would need to find some other Devs to developed the tools needed to modify the files and I work for a Sports Media Company and we have a department that Develops websites and I can get the guys to set everything up and find a host to be able to handle enough traffic. I will P.M. you my email and if your interested you can email me and we can get it going, I hope to see this up soon.

Yes I mainly need help with a host and the webpage. To modify the files, the tools are there and I've already written most of the background code to use the tools and modify the files. That code is in DOS atm, but i can rewrite in another language if required.
Look forward to your PM and hope to get this website implemented and up soon

Yeah, I'm still working on it alone at the moment. Sticktaylor has offered to help out, but I haven't heard back from him.
But anyways its still in progress...
Really looking forward to this! I am in the beta testing phase of my own personal custom ROM and this would really help it stand out. It is definitely a learn as you go kind of thing. Any ways, awesome idea and hope this does make its way into production. Thanks for all the hard work!
I think this is a great idea. It is a large project though, which will take a tremendous amount of effort and time. If you don't find enough people to help, or even if you do, have you considered joining development on UOT Kitchen? I'm not even sure if they are looking or more help, but, they already have such an amazing product, with some Sense manipulation in it even. It would be great to develop an already great thing to be even better, instead of starting from scratch to reinvent the wheel.
Just an idea...

Help service donation.
If you have your services taken care of already, please disregard. My Apologies... If you need some help with starting up host, data storage, bandwidth reqs. I can try to get donated service up to 4 to 6 months. Usually depends on the devs. idea/project. After donated time is up, the two companies I do regular business with, will usually offer a 10% to 25% discount on all service. Never hurts to try. If you would like me to submit your project, just shoot me off a PM and I'll fill you in.

So, Nicholas Chen, my question, did you really studied to develop ROM/Kernel from your last apologize until now? Why I didn't see your progress yet? I mean positive progress.. Does this is what you're talking about overclocking?

See those picture at Kernel Info, I've done that in April 2012. I've tried many ways to get it working stable, but it doesn't works. If you're still really want to do it and take the risk burning your phone, then you should really study hard and make your progress more than now, not just babbling again and forth...
I'll explain the warning your getting
Consider this sample application I wrote
Code:
//Test Application
int main()
{
//Declare random variables
long *a;
int *b;
//Force Warning
b = a;
/*Directly going
int *b = a
gives initialization instead of assignment
warning , but I spread it out for clarity*/
//Exit Gracefully
return 0;
}
Your confusing pointer or types. (Or at least the compiler thinks your are)
Since a pointer is a a pointer to a memory location theres nothing wrong with setting one pointer to another regardless of type. The compiler flags this as a warning since this is often a mistake on the programmers side. (Usually from a complicated typecast). It can also be intentional if your working with pointer arithmetic hence it being a warning not a error.
You can get rid of the warning by just typecasting the problematic expression to (void*) or by telling the compiler to ignore that warning, but thats like putting a sticker over your check engine light. Leave it as it is, it's not hurting nobody. I think it's left there to tell people working on the kernel so that can be aware of it and not make a careless mistake regarding pointer arithmetic.

Since mostly answered to your question, there is only few ways you can successfully release your kernel.
1. Be honest
2. Drop the "credits: me". You want to look good? Collaborate and listen...
*members who compile kernels or ROMs, they research what to add. Then you "git clone" their work and credit yourself?
3. Show the commits/changes
4. Who's ryuusei? If you didn't actually build this, that's irresponsibility. And you can't release something in Development section you didn't make or no part of.
5. Release something of worth value.
*Don't "Release1: Stock, Release2:added govs".
And finally... Don't claim you have "Google Nexus 4 Test Model". Unless you can prove it, it makes you more annoying and unbelievable.
I don't know what's on your mind, but it seems whenever you post, you want the "WOW" factor. That you start inventing stories to sell. Loose the fairy tale books you have, and start being a man. Age is not an excuse, BPaul is just as young as you are...

Guys, you all can cool down again.
I just approved a preview of the OP post about the kernel he's going to post - no credits taken by him and also contains proper credits and links to the sources - a OP post like it should be.
Also, I would rather like to see you guys helping him instead of keeping on hating. Given proper guidance he will, hopefully, learn and improve along the way. It's clear he yet has a lot to learn about programming and software development.
We gave him the chance to improve, so maybe rejoice and help him to get it to good use.

Aye aye captain.. I've trying to help him and give him a reading book, so first he can learn from it.. We can't help further if he didn't understanding the basic.. Despite his announcement at other forum outside XDA, about [DEV][AOSP][maguro] RevolutionRemix | v0.0.1 | Awaiting 4.2, even Android 4.2 hasn't released yet, but already had announcement about it's development..

Good idea. Without him having at least basic knowledge it's a wee bit hard to help him very far, but taking that effort is entirely up to him. Not much we can do other than to recommend books to read to get the required knowledge.

True, AOSP 4.2 hasn't been pushed into any repo yet.
I don't think we should care about things he does outside of XDA - not of our concern. Let us focus on what he does here. If he would post a Android 4.2 ROM here and claim it's been compiled from source (at this point of time) you can be sure that I would be the first one to ask him "Show us your sources or it didn't happen".
For now he decided to give the kernel he was working on a try, and subsequent release. Let us deal with the matters as they come up.

If you want to know about how "git" works let me recommend you the tutorial thread "[Guide] How to use Github" created by my good buddy eagleeyetom. There you already have your first "reading up" lesson.
I have lurked here for years but recently have decided to get into an android tablet. After two returns of a TF700t....one due to seller dishonesty (selling refurbs as new, but he apologized) and one due to getting a lemon, I gave up on ebay and pre ordered a TF701. Two, actually, as when I first ordered from Newegg they advertised an 11/4 release date then I later saw an 11/17 date. I thought maybe they took enough preorders to fill their first allotment.....possibly....so I asked them and they had no info. So I pre ordered another from excalibur. I thought whichever one would ship first I would keep and I would cancel the other order.
Wrong. Both orders were filled within an hour of each other. Friday.
So here's my question:
Since I have one extra tablet, I would like to see if there is enough support here so we can donate the tablet to a developer. I have PM'd the 10.2 (jellybean) developer for the 700T "dasunsrule32" and he asked if there might be support here to do this. We know it takes enormous amounts of time to to this work so I am looking to see if anyone might care to contribute a portion of the cost.
I paid 453.00 for the tablet. I am willing to contribute 50.00.
We need a developer interested in getting a free tablet, who can write a new bootloader, CWM (or TWRP) and Cyanogen jelly bean or KitKat. I know this is dependent on the
Asus bootloader unlock tool working.
So if we can get a list of ppl willing to contribute, I can send the tablet to dasunsrule32, or if he can't or is not interested, this offer is open to other developers.
I know I am an unknown face, I might propose if we get enough support that we send the developer the money, I am willing to send the tablet without getting reimbursed
for it. But I would ask that its a recognized person with a track record on this forum. When the tablet is received, he/she can reimburse me minus my 50.00 contribution.
Other ideas??
I'm interested, if there is enough support from the community.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Sounds like some kind of Kickstarter project ^^ i would be interested to contribute if we get enough ppl together.
Any news on this?
The only thing stopping me from buying a tf701 is some kind of confirmation that someone will port cyanogenmod
Thanks!

I'll contribute to this, good idea, count me in for 50$. Send me a PayPal address when ready. Cannot promise to install the newly developed quickly, but guess that is not the point here.

I'm no developer or anything like that, but I would be willing to donate a few bucks to the cause.

Good to hear from you. Now we know we have at least one dev on board for CM
I'm looking to buy a TF701 myself and would love to see CM10 or 11 ported to the device. I can only contribute $20 for now, but I could contribute more in the future if someone's actually willing to develop for it.
@pershoot picked up the tf701, so if I can get this one, we'll both be able to bang out this device. At least it's a start

I flashed your CWM recovery and it seems to be working just fine. Finally able to make a nandroid backup. I've been scared to start freezing bloatware until I was sure of a bailout option. So thankyou for that!
One concern: CWM did not recognize my external SD. I didn't see an option to backup to it and going to the mount menu and choosing the Mount USB option had no effect. Card is a Sandisk 64gb mobile ultra formatted FAT32. The TF701 recognizes it just fine, but SolidExplorer for some reason doesn't see it unless i specifically navigate to ...Removable\MicroSD. That was a known issue in previous versions of SolidExplorer that was supposed to have been fixed - I have a support ticket in with them. I haven't tried another card yet.
Oh yeah. I think the link for the CWM recovery at the very least should be posted as its own thread in the development forum. I think a lot of people have been waiting for a working, reliable recovery, and they might not find it buried here.

Settings - Backup & Reset.
You will see the reset options and maybe a name of the backup account.
You need to know the account name and password.
When the N6 is reset. It will ask to sign in with a Google Account that was*previously*synced on this device.
This is the anti-theft stuff of Google.
but it wont revert to stock ROM, only delete the user data

you have to flash a factory image while using fastboot, while in your bootloader. its that simple. if you dont know how, then read/research before you do it. if you still cant figure it out, you dont deserve a nexus.

That was still an insulting and baseless statement. Maybe he just wants a pure Android experience. Saying that if he doesn't understand hacking his phone or want to, then he doesn't deserve a Nexus, is exactly the terrible and snobbish attitude you'd expect from a devout iPhone user.
Don't you find it a bit ironic that you ask HIM why he wants to start an argument, when he's following up on a statement you started that was clearly meant to be derogatory? [emoji19]

It doesn't matter if it was a minute or 100 hours after the fact, two of the comments made were out of line. I was intimidated and afraid I would do something wrong the first time I tried to flash a ROM and I'm really glad I didn't get the responses that taita did or I'd probably never came back.

For me it's only a metaphor.
The point is use fastboot . The utility of Google to manage and flash our Nexus.
Samsung's way of treating this issue is just terrible so the whole dev partnership scam is really off the table. That being said, I can't believe we have the internet in 2018, yet it's just impossible to find this application. Besides, everyone deserves the right to theme their own expensive android phones conveniently. And judging by the garbage produced in their theme store, I wouldn't suppose anyone from XDA has access to the application. So does anyone have any ideas or clues on finding it? I mean how can I keep all this creativity and taste inside me and not see it on my phone? And my dear reader, how could you? So let's start the quest for finding this app as soon as possible. Lol
Ps. I know there are interesting options out there such as theme galaxy or substratum, but they don't really offer the convenience of purely creating themes on your desktop monitor with no side hassles.
What he said ^^ ?%
If someone would share a copy of it, (coming from a background in Reverse Engineering) it wouldn't be hard to bypass the login prompt to use the software for everyone.
The Themes in the Samsung Theme store are HORRIBLE.
99% of the PAID themes I wouldn't use even if they were Free. I'd love to put out good Themes to make all the other Developers step their quality up, but can't do it the "right" way apparently since Samsung rejects most applications (including mine).
Obviously, most, if not ALL the developers who are approved are actually Samsung employees themselves and/or Samsung contracted out theme makes to the lowest bidding company at some point.
If somebody could share a copy of this software with me, I'll personally reverse engineer it myself and keep you anonymous.
Oh, and I can check if Samsung happens to embed unique characteristics that would lead back to you (if you were to distribute it) and remove them.

I've been working for a week off/on removing all the code for the Login screen altogether and/or preventing the program exit when clicking the login window "X", I got bored today and decided to come back to this thread and saw this and all I have to say is UGH! lol
All that time wasted when something as simple as that bypassed it!
By the way, The code is pretty easy to sift through. It's written in C# and not encrypted.
