[Q] IceColdSandwich 5.1 AOKP Kernel Choice - HTC Incredible S

I find that the CM9 kernel does not give sufficient in call volume or speaker phone volume,a switch to tiamat kernel gives it a significant improvement,my question is does the tiamat kernel degrade the new 5.1 rom in other areas i am not aware of.

Im pretty sure it doesnt. I'm using tiamat and prefer it over the other kernels. Then again kernels is a matter of preference and varies from user to user

Exactly.
Depends on you really and by reading about other peoples experience.

Is there any way to see the differences between them? Like a featurelist or something.

IceColdSandwich 5.1 AOKP has built in CM9 kernel and is much stable for daily use. I am using it since kaijura release it on 1st day and it works like a charm. Only problem with default browser or chrome browser that kaijura already aware of it and working hard on it. I really appreciated his work. So you should definitely try it out and use opera mobile/Mini browser till kaijura get rid of browser problem.

Yes i can see that there are different aspects to each kernal, and i am not complaining about any of them .I am so happy with the developers who work to give us such good roms, thanks for the replies and look forward to what new stuff is always ahead..

I've installed this ROM, but you do not activate Varls I had this problem?

I find the tiamat ICS kernel is the best, in my opinion.

Is there a difference in the cm9 and tiamat kernel from a performance point of view ???
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium

Tiamat gives higher quadrant scores bt for 5.1 above cm9 is definitely more stable ie. Less reboots n stuff

Go with tiamat kernel but make sure you download the right one or you will get the evil black screen error lol
if you do not know which one the original post that the developer has states all the info and link to grab it from. I use tiamat kernel and love the improvements it has made.
happy modding.

Sorry but i am not sure what Varls is..,thanks for all of the input on this subject i am not sure where i would be without all of the input from the XDA forum.

IceColdSandwich 5.1 AOKP, rocking CM9 kernal without any issues and great batterylife.
Will use newest Tiamat kernel to have Cameras working well.

Using the new Tiamat.
Smooth and stable as can be.

Yes I am also using the new tiamat kernel and I am not having any issues with it.

Favourite kernel?

This had probably been covered many times previously but due to the kernels being updated so often, I feel the need to discuss it.
The fact that I've tried loads of rims and now mixing it up trying kernels is just a coincidence :-D
So what do people think at the moment?
Im currently on ultimate 5.5 with the latest voodoo sound fix kernel.

Its a matter of preference that's why you won''t get many people to answer you.
If you want Top performance but feel adventurous and can live with slight niggles, then you can use Advanced Voodoo 666 1.2 where you can OC it to 1280hz. Its like being on the edge without falling over
Otherwise, if you want stable and performance balance, then head to Speedmod's Kernel
If you want extreme performance with sacrifice over battery life or stability, head to Super Optimized OC/UV Kernel

All the best!
Since it's not so much a hassle to flash new Kernels now

Stock rom or cm7

Hi I'm currently running topogigis rom but was wondering if there was any real advantages or disadvantages if i moved to cm7?

I like CM7 best. I have found one stable one for me and it got all I need. Its snappy and fast and drains little battery. Topogigi is really good too but I just like cm7 so damn much.

nightlies !
stable release is nothing else than a nightlybuild considered stable, but outdated at the moment, since it´s over 2 weeks old and a lot of new commits are in the new nightlies ...
Cool ill try that. Now if only i could stop the vibrate in recovery... :-(

strange problem ... i guess nobody knows whats causing this only for some people ...
Ok installed the latest nightly just a couple of quirks
Camera video performance is really poor must only be recording at 10 fps
SD card write is very slow 5mbps and they are mounted the wrong way
no voodoo sound overclocking what's the best kernal to try?
Also the apps icon is missing in the dock how can I put it back?

I'm sad no one showed any miui love. I tried cm7 and got tired of trying to keep up with nightlies and different versions with its own set of problems. I tried to change kernel and got bsod and so on.
Then I learned about miui with tweak pack thats in this forum. Pure awesomeness. Even the setup is so easy.
1) backup your current setup for safety
2) rom manager go to miui.us and get latest version and wipe all data and cache and install it
3) boot into miui once at least then reboot into recovery
4) in recovery flash the tweak zip file and reboot your phone and your done
You have a badass kernel with tweaks added on miui and it is smoooooth like silk. I personally like miui because it has built in apps for file manager and network monitor and all those basic things that you expect a phone to have now, I hate having to download third party apps for basic things and they come with ads and look nothing like the phones interface. With miui now I have a phone that I can show my friends and it looks nothing like an iphone or an android. Its the best of everything. Not just good looks but inside its tweaked to perfection and proper battery usage along with overclock. No need for setcpu and those battery apps.
Hows the camera on miui as I use the camcorder alot with the kids so unless I can get the camcorder functioning correctly ill probably go back to topogigi

Im currently using the "semi-official 2.3.4" rom from jboxer, which is stock based taken from another LG phone with the same hardware as the G2x. and it works perfectly, faster than stock 2.3.3..
only issues i have is the camera, stock android camera on G2x is no where near as good as the stock LG 2.2 cam. you can flash the LG cam V3 that is floating around, but then you compromise the functionality of the FFC, and that really takes a toll on the gtalk video chatting (which is the main benefit of using any 2.3.4 rom.
GPS locks on really fast too (big plus)
hope this helps you with your decision making
I would like to prove many rooms, but I use FM radio a lot, so for now, I cannot move from TOPOGIGI room

I replaced the camera in miui with the cm7 one with the fancy high bitrate and stuff. There's a tweak pack where forum user higsy has posted the camera from cm7 that you can use to replace the miui camera

does this tweak pack work on any Rom? specifically the jboxer semi-officail 2.3.4 one?
if so can you provide a link, I cant seem to find it, did a search but had no luck
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263311
This tweak pack is only for miui and includes a kernel. You need miui + tweak pack and thats it.
The kernel on its own is called swiftextreme and that might work with other rom's I am not sure you have to post on that thread to get reply for the guys who make it.

Milestone rom reccomendation

Hi guys, I myself am a G2 user, but months ago I loaded cm7 onto my friends milestone, while he does enjoy it he mentioned to me he has a lot of random reboots/freezes etc. It has cm 7.0.0 on it, I'm assuming it wasn't very stable then.
What I would like to ask is what rom would you all reccomend for speed and features? Myself I'm a huge cm fan, but don't know much about the milestones limits. If someone could confirm the newer ports of cm7 work better? I see 7.1.0.2 is here.
Looking forward to your guys thoughts and advice on the matter.
Cheers!
Edit. Or if there's another rom you'd recomend!

Try MIUI
I am using Miui 1.10.21, built on Gingerbread 2.3.7
Its a superb ROM, except, it is overclocked to 1Ghz.
I will not recommend overclocking as a safe practice.
Except that its smooth, beautiful & works perfect

very snappy!
haha good one, I have a G2 also and using some times the milestone.
I'm running froyomod 2.9.2. In my humble opinion, its kind of slow... I never really use the milestone with the stock rom, so I cant compare. But if I compare with my G2 with unity rom, the moto is slow @ 800 mhz.
But at least froyomod is ultra stable and has a good battery life.
I'll maybe try this week miui, I'll see.

I am using the original from Miui.
It support ota update.
I copied over all the file in init.d from DannyDroid rom.
Everything run smoothly. Memory ~70mb
I really love MIUI too. Fresh install of MIUI is fast but after some time it becomes a little slower than others roms.
Is MIUI gpu accelerated?

I don't face this kind of problem. Is there a lot of background process running?
Normally, i will kill off the facebook, whatapps and other unrelated process when not using them.
Thnx for the help guys, I flashed the latest cm7 kang for him since he was accustomed to cm7 already, since 7.0.0 it has come leaps and bounds, very snappy and he's getting a full 18 hours of heavy usage. He's happy, I'm happy. Thanks for all the input, tho I don't regularly frequent this device forum its great to know it contains helpful users just like my g2/dz forum. Thanx again guys!

No. Won't work because of the different KGSL drivers (this is the only change anyway).
For what reason did you want to try this?
Till now pretty smooth and rock solid, hardly any fc's.
Only problem i found is the render glitch, which makes browsing and maps and gmail almost unuseable.
So if you need the features like cam and previous stated, i wouldnt recommend it. Remember its an alpha and not a beta or stable

Was interested to try this as I much rather prefer your own aosp Alpha 2.1,rather than the cyanogen mod port.Would be nice to get hw acceleration, but nvm.
Something I am very looking forward though is the 4.0 & sense 3.5 hybrid, especially when we consider we could de-sense it and still have stable, camera working Rom.

I've been using St.Matt's ICS Alpha build for a couple of weeks now and have enjoyed the ride so far.
With the latest release and the native HW acceleration, I am willing to forego the omission of a camera.
There is the rather annoying Browser rendering issue and a couple of glitches with the graphics sometimes but it works amazingly otherwise.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
I think it works great it is smooth but there are some glitches. but having said that the glitches and not having the ability to use my 8mp dual flash camera..... lol, is not kind of a pain in the butt. so i will be waiting for htc to release the camera kernal so we can fix this bug and begin our journey onto the ICS platform.
This is just my person opinion some others may disagree and say that the camera bug is ok and they are willing to forgo this problem and use it anyways. Me not so much but like i said i am eagerly awaiting the fixes and cant wait to see what the amazing devs can conjure up in there magic pots lol.
hope this helped you.
I agree with the above... but it was nice to give it a test run. koodos dev team

Well from all the roms I've flashed the fastest ones I've dealt with is the DX OS and CM 7.2 release that just came out. I prefer DX OS but for me MMS was a big problem. I couldn't receive any through the DX messenger and had to use the default messenger to receive them. Besides that I loved it. CM 7.2 just seems a lot more stable and less of a headache if you want something simple and easy to use. Haven't had any problems so far with the OS. But at the same time I've tweaked it a lot more then any other ROM so far.
cm7.2 by far.
if your looking ics wise, i'm not trying to toot my own horn here but the aokp port i added is quite snappy, fun to mess around with. if you try it, see if youtube works! i havnt had anyone verify for me, i know it works for me though.
sense wise, definitely zero hero from matt and dastin
supercharger v6 script goes a long way with our old phones, use compcache and cut out bloat that you know you absolutely wont use
