Had to replace my wife's droid 4 because of a bad radio. Used Titanium Backup to back it up before I returned it and restored on the new one. Everything was going fine until her AOL accounts started giving "Invalid Credentials" and refused to fix themselves - no amount of entering the password worked and it refused to let you delete them.
After trawling the web, asking in IRC and otherwise messing around with my wife's phone, I figured out how to remove the stupid accounts. I'm posting this here in case anyone else has the same issue... and to see if anyone knows of a better method or tweaks.
1) downloaded sqlite3 installer and terminal emulator.
2) cd /data/system
3) sqlite3 accounts.db
4) select * from accounts;
5) Note the id (x) corresponding with the account you don't like.
6) delete from accounts where _id = x;
7) .exit
8) cd /data/data/com.motorola.blur.setupprovider/databases
9) sqlite3 serviceaccounts.db
10) select * from accounts
11) Note the id (x) corresponding with the account you don't like.
12) delete from accounts where _id = x;
13) .exit
That seemed to do it. Then I could go back in and add the accounts. Adding as AOL didn't work, but adding as an "other" account did.
Unfortunately my backup solution of "ditch AOL" was a non-starter.
If you know of an easier way to fix stuff like this, let me know. If not, I hope this helped someone.
Aaaand it broke again. Piece of **** email app. Time to wipe and try again from scratch.

Might I suggest getting K-9 mail from the app store? IMHO it is way better than the stock email app and has a lot of customization options.

How do I remove a gmail account?
I'd be interested in this to. I rooted an NC using my gmail account...but now I'd like to remove that one and just use a different one.
I have successfully added that other gmail, so how do I remove the original?
Thanks!
Go into the settings/accounts menu in Gmail. Create another account (it can even be a duplicate of this account if you like). Once this is done a long press down on the other account will give you the option to remove it.
Thanks! I'll give that a shot.

Didn't work for me. I created another account, so now 2 are listed. Tapping the menu button at the bottom, I get a 2 rows of 3 options (Refresh, Compose, Accounts, View labels, Search, Settings).
I tap "Accounts" and the screen displays the 2 accounts that are now on the NC, with an option to "Add account" down at the bottom. If I press the Menu button here, that bottom tab changes to "Account Settings" but when I press that, the NC appears to do a soft reset.
Am I missing something? Or should I restore and root again?
Thanks!
I get the same thing here.
I have two GMail accounts listed and cannot remove either.
If I press and hold on an account on the "Add Accounts" page, nothing happens. Actually, no matter how long I "hold", when I release, I end up going to the inbox for the selected account.
Further, just like madman390, if I press the Menu button and bring up the bar that only has "Account Settings", if I select "Account Settings", my NC does a reboot of sorts (it doesn't crash back to the home screen and it doesn't go all the way back to a power-up screen, it goes to the "Nook Color" animation part of start-up).
I have the same issues as everyone here. I am giving the nook as a gift to someone else and i need to remove the accounts i used to get the market working. Could someone figure this out? Thx

Ok so I did a little messing around in the /data/ folder and I found the way to do it. You should leave one Gmail account at the end so you don't screw up the market. What you do is go into /data/system/ and edit accounts.db with an editor of your choice. You can even do it straight on the device through root explorer and the sqlite editor it requires. Open the file and delete the accounts you want to delete and then close it. I did a reboot after and the accounts disappeared from Gmail and YouTube and Gtalk. Gtalk now won't launch if you deleted the main account so you need to go into youtube, sign in again, then re-add the account in gmail and possibly Gtalk if it asks again. I had to do that a couple of times to get it to work, but now everything works. I also updated to the new market after thanks to another post

Well, I tried to follow your suggestion and it screwed up my NC where it would loop on the NOOK COLOR boot screen (Autonooter'd). I had to do the 8 reboots to get back to a useable state.

Thats interesting it worked for me without any trouble. The only problem that resulted that I see now is that it did remove all accounts and the everything worked again, but the market now refuses to download anything. I'm sorry it messed your nook up, maybe it only works if you used an older version of autonooter. Does anyone know how to make the market start downloads instead of be eternally stuck on "Starting download"? It is possible that you might need to look around your /data/ folder for xml files and more databases and change everything to the email you would like to use as a main email or maybe you just edited your db file incorrectly.
I always wonder about these posts, and if they are the people selling rooted nooks on ebay, for a profit. There seems to be more and more people selling them on there these days.
any update on this? I'd like to backup a ROM and replicate my setup, do a basic root to a friends nook, then restore with my backup, then setup his gmail. Kinda strange we are bound to the whole thing by an email address..
If not.. then people making ROMs could maybe make like: 1.1FW/1.1OC/Zeam/Gaaps/ROM manager/Astro/Titanium/NC Tools/XDA. you know.. all the stuff we are going to do anyway.ROMs
ops. double post.
No Solution
Has anyone found a solution to this...an easy one?
So, not sure what I did, but my Facebook account has disappeared from my list of accounts on my phone. When I go to add a new account, the Motorola Facebook icon is already checked. If I select it, it says I can only have one Facebook account. So, it both does and doesn't think i have a Facebook account. The icon in the list from the Facebook app does nothing, which i think is normal behavior. I do not get profile pics from Facebook in my contacts, so it is not syncing.
Truth be told, this is only an annoyance. I do not want to reset to factory (I have way too many apps to reinstall, which would be more annoying than this problem). But, if anyone can think of how I could manually convince the system to let me re-add the account, any suggestions would be appreciated.

hi, I have exactly the same problem, so I will aslo grateful for help in this matter
I had the same problem, and I did a trick with SQlite Editor
Install it then,
In SQLite Editor you select: Accounts Storage -> serviceaccounts.db -> accounts -> then you delete the line which have "Facebook" in the column "account_pretty_name"
After a reboot I was able to re-enter a Facebook account in the blur app.
And now it works perfectly

This is an older thread, but I'm having the same problem on my new RAZR MAXX (Verizon, unrooted, stock 2.3.6). I have 2 facebook icons under "My Accounts", one that allows me to put my log in info in and nothing else, the second that does nothing when I click it. I am not able to get my calendar or my contacts to sync with facebook and I'm at a loss.
What I've tried so far:
Rebooting
Deleting the FB account info and re-entering it within the My Accounts settings.
Uninstalling FB app (the unresponsive FB icon goes away in My Accounts), reinstalling and rebooting.
When that didn't work I ended up calling the new Google help and the person I talked too ran me through the steps I had already taken and suggested I contact FB as it appears that the issue is with the app. I am pulling the app straight from Google Play, but it would make sense as that is the culprit since it's not syncing with Calender or Contacts.
Thoughts? Opinions? Seemed silly to me since the contacts sync to google, but now all my new contacts are BA ones and they don't sync properly. Caused a few headaches. Now I've relented and have a BA account, but only begrudgingly

The thing I have noticed is that BA contacts do not get deleted unless you go to the BA website. I also have seen where when adding a new contact it gets backed up to BA but not google. I also have had many duplicate contacts because of this.
I ended up doing away with BA all together. I shut ba off under sync settings then I exported my contacts to my sd card contacts - menu - more - inport/export), deleted all of my contacts - google and BA - using their respective web pages on my desktop, and then re-imported my contacts from my sd card.
On import, you have the option to choose which account you want to import to. Chose your google account and it all of your contacts now reside cleanly in one account/location.
I think I remember reading you can also stop ba by clearing the ba app data. If you do that and then open it, it should bring you to the original licensce agreement. Just quit without accepting it and it won't run.

When you initially setup the phone you can skip the setup process. It's like the first thing that pops up after the "activation" sequence. If you set it up in there, but want to turn it off now, you should be able to under [Settings > Accounts & Sync].
FYI, I've noticed that this process runs in the background even if you aren't using it. Rather than risk deleting it, I used MyToolbox to "Freeze" it. This disables app--without risking a resonance cascade inside your phone because you deleted something important--so it can't run in the background. MT is made by Rerware, the same company that makes MyBackup Root/Pro. I'm pretty sure buying the Pro version of MyBackup (Root version is free) gets you a free license for MyToolbox. TBH, I haven't yet decided that Pro is worth paying for, but Toolbox is definitely worth the $2.
You can batch uninstall/clear cache/clear data/(un)freeze/restore market link/break market link/force close any application(s). The restore/break market link is really nifty. Say, after restoring your backup, you can't update an app because the market doesn't recognize the app as being installed, this will fix that. Likewise, if you install an app and you DON'T want it to update, you can break the market link. This will work on system apps too, if for some reason you didn't want YouTube, etc. to update.

A few days ago I began getting an AOL notification "connection error". This is resulting in no emails or emails cycling to inbox, then removed and reloaded as AOL email tries to load. I tried a battery pull, remove the account, re-add account and went so far as do a reset. In all cases, I still get this notification. Anyone else experience this and is there a fix.
Me too. Not sure what the issue is though.

I had the same issue with Yahoo a few weeks ago. I eventually deleted my two yahoo mail accounts and used Titanium Backup to restore data for all yahoo services. It started working again, and has been fine since.
So my issue seems to be resolved. I have not received the notification for twelve hours now. Here's the steps I took.
1) Go to settings and remove the AOL account
2) Remove battery and wait at least five minutes before replacing and booting
3) Go to settings, accounts, add new account
4) Insert your aol sign on name and password
5) Unclick automatic and choose manual setup
6) Choose general check that sign on name is correct. Click OK
7) Choose incoming server, select imap and input imap.aol.com, username and password are prepopulated. Click advanced; type 993 for port use secure and verify should be checked. Hit Ok hit OK
8) Choose outgoing server and input smtp.aol.com. Hit advanced and input 465 for port. Hit Ok hit OK
9) Select other settings. I chose 25.
Done and enjoy
I had the same problem with my AIM and AOL accounts. Lasted 2 or 3 days with doing reboots and battery pulls randomly. Decided to try out gummy rom but it wasnt working right so i went back to stock rooted n they started working again. Didnt have a problem for the next couple of days then redownloaded and installed gummy and haven't had a problem since.
Thanks!

Thanks so much! It seems to be working correctly now using your solution! I had AOL rebooting my emails every few seconds - it was extremely frustrating! And Verizon had no clue what to do, they couldn't even figure out what I was talking about - they just wanted to send me a new phone. The phone is only a few months old and doing great, but seriously? All my applications and settings need to be redone just for a software issue? Nah, had to be another solution!
Much appreciated!
I get that crap every month or so...seems to go on for a day or two, never any grief with Gmail, always AOL. Seems to be triggered by plodding thru non-Verizon areas. Eventually I just delete the account to stop the infernal notifications.

I have had the phone for a while now but suddenly new contacts I create one the phone won't save the contact name. All other details like phone, email and phonetic name will save fine. When that happens the name is stored as "nullnull". I'm not sure if it's related as I didn't notice it right away but I updated to 23.0.1.A.5.77 a while back.
I use Fruux for contact sync and am using their sync app. In Fruux I can see the contact fine showing "no name" and adding a name there saves fine, then syncing the change to the phone works fine and now I can see the name in the phone.
Things I have done:
-Deleted fruux sync account on phone and in fruux
-Deleted fruux app
-Wiped phone cache using the volume up and power button trick. I did get the three vibrates but not sure that did anything as the phone booted right in quick and I didn't see it rebuilding app data.
-Installed the Fruux app
-Made a new sync account in fruux and added that to the phone, brought in all contacts fine.
-Made another new fresh contact, again the name didn't save.
Looks like it's Sony's problem, I installed another contacts app and I don't have problems saving the name to new contacts.

I confirm, it's Sony problem. (see https://davdroid.bitfire.at/faq/entry/sony-contact-editor-problems/)
Background: It seems to affect all Sync Adapter. In case you are using a CardDav Server (maybe NextCloud or Baikal) together with a CardDav Sync Adapter app (for example DAVdroid or CardDAV-Sync): If you add a new contact using stock Contacts app, the name you enter in the fullname field will NOT be saved. It appears as "nullnull" or empty or others in your carddav server. The name gets LOST, so its useless. (It seems to work sometimes if you add the names in the seperate firstname/lastname fields, but thats not a solution because its easily forgotten)
Seems, it's fixed in recent devices/updates (Tablet Z4 on Android 7.0 works correct). But this will not help owner of older devices (my Z1compact is affected, Tablet Z, Z3compact seems too).
Only know solution is, as mentioned before, using a third party contacts app that IS NOT using the systems "add contact" dialog (!). (many are using the system dialog, than you have the same problem)
I use True Phone Dialer & Contacts. It brings its own "Add Contacts" dialog, fullname is handled correctly. (I'm using SyncAdapter opensync, almost same as DAVdroid, but you can select more than only one adressbook per server (I don't get this limitation in DAVdroid ) )

Here an instruction how to replace Sonys stock contacts app (root needed!):
Choose you third party phonebook/contacts app (as mentioned before I tested it with True Phone Dialer & Contacts). Test that is is not using stock dialog (add a contact, the dialog where you add name/phone/email should look different then if you add it from stock app).
(maybe not needed: go to Android settings -> apps -> Contacts and clear "Open by default" settings for stock app)
Connect to phone by adb (should work in a terminal app too)
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
mv /system/priv-app/Phonebook/Phonebook.apk /system/priv-app/Phonebook/Phonebook.apk.bak
mount -o ro,remount /system
Reboot phone
Stock contacts app should not be visible anymore in app drawer, so you cannot accidentally use the wrong app, choose your new app as "use always" when you are asked next.
In case of problems (and maybe before you update Android), just rename Phonebook.apk.bak back to Phonebook.apk .
I seriously hope they don't still have this problem two years later.
