A few days ago I began getting an AOL notification "connection error". This is resulting in no emails or emails cycling to inbox, then removed and reloaded as AOL email tries to load. I tried a battery pull, remove the account, re-add account and went so far as do a reset. In all cases, I still get this notification. Anyone else experience this and is there a fix.
Me too. Not sure what the issue is though.

I had the same issue with Yahoo a few weeks ago. I eventually deleted my two yahoo mail accounts and used Titanium Backup to restore data for all yahoo services. It started working again, and has been fine since.
So my issue seems to be resolved. I have not received the notification for twelve hours now. Here's the steps I took.
1) Go to settings and remove the AOL account
2) Remove battery and wait at least five minutes before replacing and booting
3) Go to settings, accounts, add new account
4) Insert your aol sign on name and password
5) Unclick automatic and choose manual setup
6) Choose general check that sign on name is correct. Click OK
7) Choose incoming server, select imap and input imap.aol.com, username and password are prepopulated. Click advanced; type 993 for port use secure and verify should be checked. Hit Ok hit OK
8) Choose outgoing server and input smtp.aol.com. Hit advanced and input 465 for port. Hit Ok hit OK
9) Select other settings. I chose 25.
Done and enjoy
I had the same problem with my AIM and AOL accounts. Lasted 2 or 3 days with doing reboots and battery pulls randomly. Decided to try out gummy rom but it wasnt working right so i went back to stock rooted n they started working again. Didnt have a problem for the next couple of days then redownloaded and installed gummy and haven't had a problem since.
Thanks!

Thanks so much! It seems to be working correctly now using your solution! I had AOL rebooting my emails every few seconds - it was extremely frustrating! And Verizon had no clue what to do, they couldn't even figure out what I was talking about - they just wanted to send me a new phone. The phone is only a few months old and doing great, but seriously? All my applications and settings need to be redone just for a software issue? Nah, had to be another solution!
Much appreciated!
I get that crap every month or so...seems to go on for a day or two, never any grief with Gmail, always AOL. Seems to be triggered by plodding thru non-Verizon areas. Eventually I just delete the account to stop the infernal notifications.

I'm new to the mobile phones using windows. But untill now i'm almost compleetly happy with the TyTNII.
The problem i'm having is that emails older than 3days are suddenly gone missing in my inbox . I can't seem to find any setting dialog where i can change this. Mayby i have to set something in the registry but i don't know what . So i'm hoping that someone can and will help.
I've tried to delete the account and after rebooting creating a new one but the problem still remains.
If you are using push or imap it is a settign in your server config for how many days of email to show.
No i'm using pop3 in both cases.

There's a setting, it lets you choose how many days of email to keep on our phone. It's default to 3 or 4. Thissetting applies to any POP or IMAP mail accounts, whether you are using push or on-demand email retrieval. Go to your email account on the phone, and select menu|tools|options or soemthing like that. choose the account, and edit the settings for it (it like a few pages into the "setup wizard" for the account)...
Go to Start-Programs-Messaging-menu-options-tap on your email name in the box-next-next-next-next-next-and finally the drop down menu under Download messages.
First of all i would like to thank you for your advise but i've been looking for such a setting myself and could not find it. Not even under the advanced button!
the only setting witch has something with day is :
Download messages from the past xx days or all messages.
As i understand it this has to with downloading and not with messages already downloaded right?
That is the setting. Perhaps it's poorly worded. but if you say "download emails from the last 3 days", then it will remove emails from your phone that are older than 3 days. So as time goes by, messages that download one day will be removed from the phone 3 days later. They don't get "deleted" from you rmail system, just removed from your phone.
It's a strange way to name a setting like this indeed. But i think i get it now and i'll go for the setting all messages than. I want to controlle the way wich email to keep and wich not!
Thank alot for your help
Hi
My Tilt automatically deletes emails on its own. After hitting send and receive it gets the new emails and then the old one get removed and the are not in the deleted items folder. Please help.
It does not delete the emails but does not show them anymore, they're still available. Don't know if this is a setting or default.
I am new here sorry. So where do the emails go. I called ATT and spoke to HTC as well they said device was defective. This is my second device this week and it still does the same. ATT, HTC says they never heard anything like that before.
It's not defective. It's a setting. If you use mail from an external ISP you do the setup of your account. In outlook on PC (I presume you use that) there is a setting to keep a copy on the server. If that is not flagged, you send and receive mail on your device, but as soon as you do send and receive on your desktop it clears the files from the server and puts them on your PC. If you then again do a send and receive the mails are gone from the server and automatically removed from your device.
EDIT: Why not using exchange instead. Then you don't have this issue at all.
Yeah, it has to do with over how many days you want to download emails to your device. The default is typically 3 days, at least on mine, so if an email is older than 3 days it will be removed from the phone. It will still be on the main server though, unless you manually delete it from the phone in which case the aforementioned setting to keep a copy on the server is selected. So, in other words, if you are downloading Gmail, for example, if you log in to the Gmail website your email will be there, just not on your phone if it's older than 3 days. Obviously, changing that cutoff date will add or remove more emails. BTW, you change that by opening Messaging, go to Menu > Options, and pick the account you would like to change. Then go thru the wizard, and when you get to the panel that says "Download Messages", change the setting in that panel.
Re
Did you checked your e-mails with your pc as well? Your PC downloads the from the server, your tytn show them only.
so if you connect after you've been busy on your desktop, their gone and can be found on your desktoppc
Thanks Everyone I think i understan what you guys are saying. I am used to a blablberry where that leaves it on th BB until i delete them. Thanks
Is there a setting where i can leave them on both computer and phone at the same time?
not really, just increase the download time in the email settings, but none will stay permanently. (Unless there's a keep all emails option, I don't remember ATM and the girlfriend has my phone). It's a memory saving function.
Enter the messaging screen, tap 'Menu' then 'Tools' then 'Options'. Next, tap on the 'Storage' tab at the bottom, you will then see a dropdown menu for 'Empty Deleted items'. Select 'Manually' and your problems will be solved.

It is not working on Kaiser. Is there any solution for keep emails on pocket outlook when they gone from inbox on sever?
The one solution what i know is move email to the other folder ('draft' or created one) beacuse mails are deleting automaticly only from inbox folder in pocket outlook when it can't be find exacly the same copy on server.

This is not SOLVED
Here si the fix on the HTC and disappearing emails
1 start/message/click email account/menu/tools/options/tap email account/edit account setup/next/next/next/next/next/download message 3 pls days/advance setting/keep them on server/next/ finish
Do this for all accounts
Now go to your computer and outlook tools/email accounts/view or change email account/next/change/ more settings/advanced/leave copy on server/ how many days is up to you
You must do this for all you accounts on that computer. then do the same to all the computer you use to get the same e-mails.
I am actually having the same issue as the person that started this thread. It only started 2day. Ive had my phone for over a year and it was with WM 6.0 and my gmail on the phone was working fine....if i pressed send recieve it got my emails....i left them in the inbox and when i pressed send recieve again 30 mins later for an example my old emails still stayed while the new ones came in. Now i upgraded my phone to WM 6.1 last night and now when i press send recieve to get my gmail the older emails automatically erase/disappear from my phone. Anyone understand why? And yes its still on my regular gmail account...it doesnt disappear from there!
I recently flashed my kaiser with the latest duty rom. After that i try to setup a imap gmail account.
The problem is that i can recieve mail, but when i try to send it gives the error :the message(s) could not be sent.Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again
I checked / dubbel checked the imap settings from gmail, but nothing seems to work.
(if i try to setup pop3/smtp everything works fine)
Is there anybody who can help me ?
I think it comes because WM6 wants to automatic set some settings.
Try the following:
Create a new imap account.
By the email adressfield put something like. [email protected]
Fill in all the other fields but remember to select imap4
When finished go back and edit the account with the right settings.
I had to do this with my own phone to get it working
have you enabled imap within your gmail settings at mail.google.com?
have you set the SSL settings to yes?
Tom , yes i enabled imap on the gmail setting, and yes i checked the ssl setting ( i cant change anything, only set the V )
@AAthesource : i tried this already, this is the only way to setup gmail with imap, otherwise the setting are automaticly set tot pop3 etc

I've had this problem with WM6.0 (Dutty's RTM4). The issue seems to be the ssl certificate than GMail sees fit to change every now and again. The SMTP info doesn't seem to change in the registry. Even with account deletion and re-add with the same name doesn't seem to fix this. I usually have to delete the account and then add with a different name.
Does anyone know where the fsck Pocket Outlook et al store the account information and especially cache certificates and passwords?
James
this would be nice if there's a solution !Hope to see it soon
I think you might be using the wrong information. The server isnt mail.google.com, its imap.google.com .
WM6.1 will automatically fill in settings, so you have to start off by making the address [email protected], then after you are done you can go back and correct that address. Here are the details from google's site. (remember to put the wrong address the first time around)
1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail account settings.
2. Open the Start menu and select Programs > Messaging > New E-mail Account.
3. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') in the E-mail Address field.
4. Uncheck the box to get settings automatically from the Internet and select Next.
5. Select Internet e-mail as your email provider in the drop-down menu.
6. Enter your name as you want it to appear in sent emails.
7. Enter a descriptive name for the email account and select Next.
8. Enter 'imap.gmail.com' in the Incoming Mail Server field.
9. Select IMAP4 as the Account type from the drop-down menu and select Next.
10. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') and password.
11. Select Next.
12. Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' in the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server field.
13. Make sure that the Outgoing server requires authentication box is checked.
14. Select the Advanced Server Settings link.
15. Make sure that the Require SSL box is checked for both incoming and outgoing emails.
16. Select The Internet as the network connection from the drop-down menu.
17. Select Done and then Next.
18. Select how often you want your phone to send/receive emails from the drop-down menu.
19. For more download options, select the Review all download settings link.
20. Select Finish.

My notes on these steps:
1. Ignore
3. Use a made up non @gmail.com adress the first time.
4. There is no check box in 6.1
12. I used imap.gmail.com for my outbound and it works great.
21. Menu > Tools > Options > Gmail Account > Fix Address to correct @gmail.com
@Pops_G it works for me now thanx !
i replaced smtp.gmail.com with imap.gmail.com and it works
is this a long term fix?
@ the cosmic gate & pops_G, is changing from smtp to imap.gmail really a long term fix?
I've found that erasing and re-creating the account will work until they change certificates again.
Going into my options and just switching outgoing to imap.gmail.com didn't fix it for me.
I had to erase my account from the phone and enter it again to work, using imap.gmail as the outgoing. However, I'm not convinced this fixes anything since re-doing it with smtp.gmail also would work until they change the security again.
So, will that not happen if using imap.gmail for outgoing?
Or does any of this really make any difference at all?
@Dishe, I really doen't know if this is a long time fix.But at this moment everything works fine for 1 month.
The only problem is that sometimes its not possible to send a mail.
It's really strange, but for example if you wanna send 4 mails, just 1 e-mail (adress) gives problems
I had it working fine in this 1999 rom but didnt seem to work with the hybrid. I also dont like how imap deletes the mail from the server when u del it off the phone. I just set it back to use pop. Only problem I saw with pop before was everything sent ends up in your inbox.

That's silly. You can set it to move trash to server trash instead of delete off server. Then, the message still exists on the server in "trash" until you empty it.
Also, at least with gmail, "delete" only removes it from the inbox. It still exists on the gmail server, but its not in any folders, they just sort of float around until you move them into the trash folder or assign them to another folder.
You can see this by viewing "All Mail" and filtering out the inbox, etc, to just show you messages without any category.
The only real reason to use POP these days is if your mail server does not support Imap. Imap is superior in every way...
It's not silly I don't want want my phone moving or deleting anything. I just want to view new emails. That's what gmail is about. Archiving mail and not having to delete anything. If it moved it to the archive I would be fine with it. I also don't my message in limbo with the "deleted" status.
it works for me for 3 weeks now, but sometimes there's a problem when i try to reply.
If i made a reply to some adressses, it says that its nog possible to send (something with network coverage).I know for sure that the mail adres is 100% okay .
Someone with the same problem ?Or maybe a solution?
is there nobody with the same problem ?Or somebody who can help me ?
nope, works fine for me. Sounds like you have a totally different problem. Ask google support or perhaps someone on their forums.

how come gmail imap in 6.1 does not auto sync like it did in wm6? i have options like manual and different intervals as an option.
Some oddities I notice with Gmail and the new AT&T ROM for me.
The first is that in order to disable the automatic download of messages, I now have to pretty much click through all the account setup screens for the Gmail account. With the stock ROM, it was only a couple/few clicks to undo that setting. Just a little annoying.
The second is that two or three times now, removing the automatic downloading of messages didn't seem to 'take'. I'd uncheck that box and click "Done", and a bit later, my phone will alert me to new messages, and when I check the account settings, that box is checked again.
Weird.
Also, lately I've noticed that when I go into the Wireless Manager, Microsoft Direct Push is briefly on, but 'grayed out', and it turns to off as the menu finishes loading.

I have just rooted my phone to Gingerbread, and I just LOVE it. I was able to set up the gmail accounts easily, so I have two separate gmail "labels" on my phone, each one for a different gmail account. I still cannot get the message count to show up on my notification bar, however, but that's not the reason for this post.
I am trying to do the same thing for my yahoo accounts (I have two of them). Yes, I can download the yahoo widget/app and that puts yahoo pretty much live on my phone - but I'm not looking for that. I'm looking for the shortcuts, like Gmail, so I can click on them and it takes me to a brief list of emails etc. I don't want to have full access to yahoo on my phone, but just the shortcuts.
When I try to set it up, this is what I do:
1) put a shortcut to the Email icon on my screen and name it.
2) When I try to configure it, I put my yahoo user name (xxx at yahoo.com) in and password
3) the message that comes up is "Mailbox access is not supported for some times of yahoo mail accounts" etc. I click on OK
4) it tells me setup could not finish as there is an incorrect username or password. I am 10000% certain I enter the correct name and password.
5) if I try a different yahoo email account, I get the same error message, plus (530 Access Denied: need SMTP privileges to access this server).
I used to have yahoo email shortcuts on my phone before I rooted - and they were great. I had two icons, and the message count showed up in my notification bar. When I rooted first (to I guess AOSP 9.9.2, before gingerbread), I could get the yahoo mail icons to work, no problem. I was not able to add an account in the "accounts and sync" - that only offers me "google" or "corporate" (which I guess is exchange). It's only with gingerbread i am having this problem.
I am VERY basic when it comes to using the phone, so if anyone responds, please pretend I'm about four years old, so please explain in basic language what I need to do. Anything complicated, and I might not follow (sorry). Still a newbie.
Thank you everyone.
This has been a problem for me on some roms too. Including aospCMod, some will let you set up a yahoo account and others will not. I first noticed this when I switched from cm6 to aospmod awhile back. Cm6 would let me sign in to a yahoo account but aosp would not. Then about 2 updates later on aospmod, I could all of a sudden sign in.
So this leads me to believe its an internal setting that the dev can modify to fix this. What it is idk, and when it'll come for or gingerbread roms idk, but take comfort in knowing your not the only one who has come across this.
Its kind of weird really, hopefully someone else knows why this happens out how to fix it.

Try using K9 mail, it is free in the market and much better than Yahoo mail app. I am sure you will be able to get emails and such, but not sure how much it will help with the other widget type problems.

Yahoo doesn't work any more :-(
Strange. yesterday, I set it up and it worked like a charm - IMAP and smtp, changed the server settings (did it all manually) - worked very well yesterday and today was working just fine. Hadn't checked my emails for a few hours though - just tried - and it tells now incorrect user name or password. I deleted it and tried to add the yahoo account again - first it tells me unable to open connection to server. Tried again (making sure all settings were correct) and it just says incorrect username or password.
Under IMAP server I have imap.mail.yahoo.com, port 143, security type none - exactly like I had it yesterday and this morning, and it doesn't work. incorrect username or password.
I haven't changed a THING with my phone - not a single thing - or downloaded any new apps - so I'm mystified. Thoughts anyone?
Thank you
