Please help. Advice and direction are all I am looking for. I have searched and searched for a solution but have only gotten more confused. I posted to a thread that I thought was relevent, but was quite ridiculed. Its been a while since I rooted my phone and feel like i am a noob all over again.
So when things were fine on my phone I was running cyans 4.2.1.2 (i think right around there). Wasn't fast enough, so I tried Super D's rom. Took a while, lots of wipes, but I got it up and running after making sure I had the right spl and radio files installed. But browser wouldn't work.
I am not trying to fix Super D's rom. Here's the thing. I went back to cyan, but still no browser. Wipe, wipe wipe, redo spl and radio, cyan. Still no browser, but now lost market. Nandroid! Back up restored. Browser back but no market.
Solutions I am looking for. 1. A way to fix these without a full revert. But where do I find working source files?
2. How far back do I have to go to get a rom with these included? Back to Stock 1.6? Where can I get it from?
3. I know I am only wiping from cyans recovery. I don't know how to wipe the ext, or the dalek as someone suggested rudely in another thread, and I think this might also be a fix.
Sorry to ask such a specialized question. I didn't see a how-to for reverting EVERYTHING back to stock including my Gapps. If there is let me know!
Also, if I do have to start over, is there a way to save an app I currently have? I still have the Sense version of Beautiful widgets (I never updated it after the legal mumbo jumbo from HTC) Is there a way to save it? I know if I lose it I will only be able to get the Non-Sense version now.
Thanks for taking the time to read this! Any advice would be a huge lifesaver!
It will be way easier if you update your recovery. Go to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
and get Amon-RA 1.5.2 and follow the directions to get it installed.
Once installed, boot into recovery and wipe from there. You can wipe everything from his recovery.
Word! Thanks for the tip. I tried yesterday but I guess I didn't follow the directions right. This time I did and was successful! Now I am wiping through amon's, and re-flashing. Lets see if that works!
Once you are done, stick with Super-D for ease of install and the new version of Beautiful widgets is nice. Lots of skins for the flip clock.
sweet. Actually had my old apps too still on my sd card until I noticed the apps2sd wasn't working. Then I repartitioned. Everything running but lost the old widget. Oh well, thanks for the big save- that was easy! Market, browser, like a brand new phone only better! Thank you thank you thank you!
Hey guys,
I'm brand new to this stuff, and I've searched the forums to the best of my abilities and I don't see a fix yet.
I just flashed the new Cognition ROM and used Titanium Backup to "restore all apps with data". During this process, it went through my apps one by one, and asked me if I wanted to install them or cancel and not install them. I picked and chose which apps I wanted to keep and which to discard. As an aside, the apps in question were things like games/puzzles for my kid to play with, and games and such that I had downloaded from the Market to try out but forgot to uninstall.
So, after everything was restored, I started to test stuff out, and everything works...except incoming calls. I get the "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. please try again. force close"
Is there any fix for this besides going back to stock and retrying the new ROM? If there is a solution to this a link to the thread would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for posting this, I am having the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, what is the best way to go back to stock?

So I use ODIN to go back to completely stock and try the ROM again, but use the "restore missing apps with data" option?
You should click restore missing apps + data. That should fix it
Sent from my phone
Maybe I'm just picky or don't trust TiBu completely, but I always restore my apps individually. Never had a problem. I've been back and forth between Cognition and darkys ROMs and (of course) stock on my AT&T Cappy.
Yup restore back to stock... and if you had issues with doing a TiBu restore with "Apps and Data" I would recommend just using "Apps Only" option in TiBu.
BUT... I would test the ROM out before doing the restore to ensure it's not a ROM issue first.
If you do not wish to go back to stock, there were quite a few suggestions in the Cog 3.0x thread on this issue. A few people in that thread simply had a bad flash. One just needed to do a good solid reboot to fix it. Another suggestion was to clear the dalvik and cache using ClockWorkMod Recovery (red version). Lastly, lots of people FC'ing with the phone process were experiencing problems due to the ogg files in phone.apk being compressed when they should not be (reportedly) and was fixed by disabling the "Call Status Tone" in settings/call settings/all calls/call status tone. One of these could be your problem.
If you wish to just try again the simple way, it would probably be your best bet to Odin back to stock, do the master clear (it seems to be a topic of debate if this is the best thing to do, but it is mentioned in a few different tutorials), and flash again. Then TiBu to restore your apps+data (as mentioned... no system data, just app data) again.
If you wish to try to fix the problem, one place to start might be a fixed phone.apk in the Cog 3.0x thread in the Development section for Captivate. It is posted by Andrewk_77 somewhere between page 85 and 90, I think (sorry, I've been trying to keep up with the reading of that thread for days in order to head off any problems I may run into with Cog 3 and it's kinda blurring together). Otherwise you'll have to try to search out other solutions in that thread.
Edit:
Found that post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10685612&postcount=861
I know that they don't seem to be describing the exact same problem, but might be worth a shot.
I reflashed Cog 3.02, didn't use TiBu to restore anything, just set it up myself again. Phone works fine now.
Though I do have a question about flashing back to stock: would I just put the stock ROM (in this case Rogers 2.2) onto the SD, and flash it using CWM? Or do I need to use ODIN, in which case I would get the AT&T ROM? Thanks for helping a newbie out.
I have rooted my nookcolor that was running 1.0.0
how do you get to the dern menu in apps?!
i know it doesn't have all the hard buttons of regular phones so what is the technique..?
once rooted is there a way to update my nook to something above the 1.0.0
any other little tidbits would be helpfull
ok, i found the softkeys, but the other questions stand
mainly what is the technique to installing the quickie-900mhz.zip?
and how do i get to more advanced settings besides the lame nook color stock ones
Take a look here regarding the 1.0.1 upate on a rooted Nook.
For the 900MHz over-clocking, see this post in the thread for that modification.
I would suggest that you take the time to read through the rest of the topics on the portal as well. If you are new to all this (as I recently was) you have a lot of reading and experimentation ahead of you.
Then, before posting your questions to this forum, be sure to read the stickies at the front of the lists and then make use of the "search this thread" feature. Actually, I find I have more luck doing a web search and adding "xda-developers" to the key words.
Example search: update rooted 1.0.0 nook color xda-devlopers
i'm failing to find anything on how to get to regular settings instead of the dumbed down nook ones.. or how to flash the quickie-900mhz.zip... im willing to believe that that is because i fail at finding them but please i need the help.. also i unrooted and it didn't unroot.. all the way.. lost superuser etc. but it still has my apps and isn't refreshed..
I think you are looking for NookColorTools
You should upgrade to 1.0.1 before you try to do anything else. The easist way to do it, in your case, would be to just trigger a factory restore and go back to complete factory 1.0.0 then apply the 1.0.1 update.
Then run Auto-Nooter 2.12.25 again and start from there. I personally have my Volume keys remapped to Back and Menu instead of using Softmene keys, you can try that too.
Because the NC is running a custom build of Android, it doens't have all the options visible. You can still access them by using tools such as NookColorTools, which will be installed automatically when you use Auto-Nooter and/or you can get a program called Spare Parts.
As for the quickie-900mhz kernel, once you are on 1.0.1 and rooted, you will need to get ROM Manager and install the CWR mod. Then boot into CW Recovery and flash the .zip file.
Since you don't seem to understand much about the NookColor, I would suggest you do more research and understand more before you attempt to flash a new kernel first..

Do a search for the NookColor Tools app. Once in the app, tap the "All Settings" button. Bob's your uncle.

What did you use to remap the vol keys? btw. thanks got it updated, rerooted, and custom romed.
I've seen a few threads on this topic but no real solution.. every diff rom ive used i cannot login and ergister with my google account.
my wifi is connected
i have internet access.. but it is like the device is trying to use phone data or something..
any ideas?
If you used Auto-Nooter... you should have skipped signing in when booting up for the 1st time! Then enable Location Services when asked..
Once you are back to the interface, start YouTube and go to my channel and login with your gmail account. That's all you need to do to get Market, and everything else working. Then, get Titanium backup, and wipe data on YouTube, because it will just close the next time you tried to open it.. Once data is wiped, never sign in again..
To rempa your Volumne keys.. do this:
http://www.nookdevs.com/NookColor_Remap_volume_buttons_for_back_and_menu
I got it up and running. However, even after getting the proper usb drivers. and using the tool shown here on xda.
adb devices doesn't show the nook at all
i cannot find the nook to connect.
Hey Guys I put together a Q&A thread for this rom to prevent tons of new threads about rom Spicific questions from new users.. Please feel free to post any questions here.

No question is too noobish, But please look for your answer first.
Now for the info needed to help. In your post make sure to included the version of the rom you are using, modem, kernel, ext...

Great idea Zel, I am here to help.
I will try to answer the questions the best I can and then have a list of FAQ in this post so people can easily access them.
FAQ
How to flash FireFly? (Method one)
BACK UP!!!
Flash to stock (FTS)
Wait for your phone to reboot and then re-enable debugging
Hook phone back up to pc and Master Clear (MC) using Odin
Load Clockwork update.zip (DOWNLOAD)
Load FireFly_X-X.zip to phone memory
Remove sim and external SD, and unplug USB
Boot into recovery and reinstall packages (You may have to reinstall packages twice to get to Clockwork recovery)
Once in Clockwork recovery (Green Text), select install zip from SDcard
Next select choose zip from sdcard
Scroll down to FireFly_X-X.zip and select the file
This will run the script and install the ROM to your phone
After this is done, select go back and then select reboot phone
This may take a while, so leave your phone and go grab a snack!
How to flash FireFly? (Method two) - the one I usually do
Load ROM file onto phone
Boot into recovery
Select ROM and flash it
Reboot, wait and enjoy
Wash, rinse, repeat!

ok..lemme do the honors....quick ques...am flashing firefly 2.2(downloading it now)....i flashed back to stock JF6...do i need to flash to some base ROM for firefly 2.2 to work??
I'm asking cause i was on darky8.1, then flashed directly to 9.3b1 which resulted in incorrect orientation(i9000), then i read the instructions which expected me to flash to base(resurrection), then flash a captivate fix and then flash to 9.3b1...!!!!
You should be able to flash directly as long as you flash FF 2.2 full not the update package.

Nope, you can download the FF 2.2 from the site. LINK
Pick any one of the mirrors. This will get you FF2.2 with the clock in the status bar.
If you want to remove the clock, you can flash the no clock package.
EDIT: Spaz beat me to it. Thx Spaz.
ok cool..thanks!! lookin forward to enjoy this ROM
..its really irritatin to have to flash to base ROM's and then flash to the updated ROM's....

I flash to FireFly 2.2 and its looks awesome + I've been looking for a ROM that had the fix for when I connect the AUX cable to the car radio I can talk to anyone on the phone and hear them on the car speakers... This ROM has that fix finally, I love it... no more Blutooth head sets. But I have a big issue and is that when I make my 3rd or 4th reboot my phone freeze on the "F" boot logo. It does that vibrating action once and then twice like when there's an error. I have flashed my phone before so many times and had no issues and I have been using all FireFly ROM's ever since It came to life. This 2.2 ROM I have flashed like 4 times and I keep having the same problem and I don't want to flash any other ROM only but this one. What can be the reason for this problem? Please Help!

That is quite a strange problem.
Lets try to troubleshoot it.
Did you install any third party app that needs to load at startup?
Did apply any themes?
Glad to have this open since i cant post on the original thread yet

Q: is hsupa enabled on this rom? also i'm in australia using 850/2100 wcdma could there be any issues with this modem?
thanks, i'm super excited about ff..... it will be my first flash.
haven't even recieved my phone yet but i'm already obsessed!

Not sure! but the only one I can think of would be "Launcher Pro", but I have always used it, and this problem has never happened. When you install it, you need to reboot again in order for Launcher to take effect. I do need to point out that before this flash I when to stock with Odin. I never have the need to do this cause I use too flash directly from "Rom Manager" but lately I was noticing that when I flash using ROM Manager It wasn't taking me to the green menu, it was taking me to what I think it was the stock menu with blue, yellow and a red letters where red was an error message,so that's why I decided to go to stock and then I did all the steps needed in order to flash a New ROM using the thread from the development section then I flash FF 2.2 and ever since when I boot like for the third or fourth time it freezes. I hope for a solution... I'm only digging FireFly right now cause lets face it...
Thanks a lot for your attention...
Several Questions
I've been using Firefly since it came out and upgraded to 2.2 last week. I do have a couple questions after having used 2.2 for awhile.
1. Why were the dark apps removed (gmail & market)? It seems like Firefly has a darker theme and using the modified apps as default makes sense. Maybe a CWM zip containing all the dark apps would be an option or links to the forum pages? I was able to find dark versions of Gmail, Voice, Gtalk, and the Market by searching, but I think it would make more sense from a theming sense for these to be included by default.
2. What's the best way to remove the Samsung Apps? I flashed the zip and messed around with it a bit, but realized I don't need it. You can't uninstall it like normal apps so I was thinking about removing it with TiBu, but I don't want to mess something up. Suggestions?
3. I searched around the forums, but I haven't been able to find a simple answer to this: does this rom support call recording? Is this a kernel issue or simply a rom feature that Firefly hasn't implemented? If this is something simple to do without losing theming, I have no problem with that, if not consider this a feature request.
4. Not sure if this is a Firefly issue or an ESPN issue, but since flashing 2.2 my ScoreCenter app keeps reverting to the user Tron98001. I don't know who this is or how it got on my phone, but it keeps changing all my settings. Everytime I delete the app and wipe the data, it defaults to that same user when I install it again. If I change the user and settings, within about a day it reverts back. Again, I'm thinking this is an ESPN issue, but I was just wondering if anybody was having the same issue since I didn't have a problem until upgrading to 2.2.
You can always try different modems, to see which one works best for you.

1. There were too many bugs involved with the dark apps. I decided that it is best to include stock and let users decide based on their preference.
2. I will have to create a CWM zip that takes care of this. It is not as simple as uninstalling.
3. This ROM does not have call recording. It is considered illegal in many states, to record calls without consent of the other part. I just want to stay away from the mess. Users can install that option on their own.
4. That definitely looks like an app issue.
I believe my ROM is more toward the neutral side and I dont wont to force themed apps (that are buggy) or features that can get them in trouble.
I am just being honest.
Let me know if there are more questions.
As FF is rogers based, can it support usb audio out through the car dock? I downloaded the rogers car dock app and no joy. Changed the kernel to FB2, which should have the fix, and still no joy.
Thanks for the amazing rom though!

I did run into this problem when I flashed Fire Fly 2.2. The only way around it was to uninstall Launcher Pro and then install it again. I am not sure what caused the problem but this did solve it for me. The one downside of this is that all the screen setups that I had got removed. But that is minor to me since I move things around all the time any way.

That fix is still in the works in Xcal's kernel. We will have to wait till it is implemented all around.
Thanks for your quick response. I'll wait for the CWM zip to remove the Samsung Apps. I understand the legallity of call recording and it is something I just wanted to try out, anyways I have a follow up question then: if I apply the phone.apk and libs I found (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938860) would I lose the theming of the dialer that comes with Firefly by default? Do you know of any reason why this wouldn't work?

As I'm reading about installing HC, Froyo or CM7 on eMMC, I'm curious about "saving" my current stock eclair rom in case I want to put it back...
If I make a CWM Recovery microSD, boot off that, do a backup... Can I just restore that if I want to get back to the way it is now? (assuming I just install something like Froyo to eMMC)
There are a few threads for stock recovery (check search). That will put it back like it was when you took it out if the box.
It's easier than trying to capture the partitions and data when someone else has already fine to all the trouble if doing it.

Thank you, I understand there are a few threads over in the developer section on how to get back to "out of the box" type stock, and I have read them and they all talk about using the done by someone else "images" or "roms."
They don't seem to apply as I've setup eclair pretty much the way I want to... so I am not looking for how to get back to "stock like out of the box"... but rather to the eclair as I have it setup now.
i.e. if I want to got back to eclair, I don't want to have to reconfigure everything all over again.
KidJoe,
Yes, you can do the backup like that, save it on your PC or something and restore later when you need it. I did that before.
