Hello,
I originally am on Fido/Rogers Canada and now I am in Paris, France and I have *no* service for some reason. The Droid 3 is a quad band GSM phone and no matter what, I can't get any signal. Anyone else have this issue?
Do the T-Mobile/AT&T hack.

Hi all - I plan to use an unlocked bell i9000m on the att network. so i chatted with att tech support to make sure that my account was set up in a way to handle an unlocked phone.
We got into the following exchange about '3G markers'
Joe Goodson: Also, as that's an unlocked phone it won't get the 3G markers either. *Only AT&T 3G phones get those.
.
.
me : what does it mean 'does not get 3g markers'
Joe Goodson: The system provisions every 3G phone with certain flags. And that basically means if things get busy on the local towers the system will only allow AT&T phones to access 3G. Unlocked phones will be pushed down to 2G only.
.
.
me: is there any way to getthe markers on unlocked phones ?
Joe Goodson: Only if you have an AT&T 3G phone. *Once we update the device type the system adds the markers in.
So my question is: is anybody using imported bell samsung galaxy in VERY BUSY att coverage (ie San Francisco) and can report about this 'get dropped down to 2G if you do not have the att 3g markers' business? is this somehitng that i should worry about if i plan on using the phone in commonly considered crowded markets?
thanks and cheers!
there are several guys here in XDA using the Bell model on AT&T
but i do not know if they are in a busy area or not, perhaps they can comment on this
I do know they all like the fact that the 3G on the Bell model works great and they don't get tracked, as the model can not be identified on the network.
basically they will never get over the monthly quota if they had a small data plan
thanks allgamer!
anyone with a bell i9000M on at&t wants to chime in ?
dont know what a busy area is.. works fine in boston... or along the i93 corridor.
thanks for the update on boston. can anyone from the bay area (san francisco in particular) with an unlocked phone on at&t comment? i would really like to use the bell version on at&t but am afraid that i would be constantly dropped to 2g speeds (see comments of att tech rep) in notoriously overwhelmed att sf market...
anyone can confirm or refute the story of the att tech guy?
Has anyone else been having issues in regards to service for the past couple of days? My internet speeds on my Hero have dropped to double digits (for download...upload is still ~400-800ish as it has always been). At first I thought it was my ROM (I was using AOSPCmod), but then i flashed to a different one (LiquidSense) and I'm still having the same issue. It shows the roaming indicator on LiquidSense. On AOSPCmod it says something about International Data Roaming.
My roommate claims to be having issues with his Evo 4g too so I'm hoping it's something on Sprints end, but I just wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing the same thing.
Don't know. Have you already contacted customer support to confirm?
My service has been fine. I'm north in the wells branch/mopac area.

South by southwest brings in lots of people. Bet it just bogged the system down is all

Yep.. Downtown in areas I usually had service, I had no service or was roaming.. Data was only 1x on my hero.. It's all been much better this week. Unfortunately, I am stuck w/ an Airave at my house, but a new tower has gone up right across the street from me, and it's Sprint -- so just waiting for them to activate it.
Hello fellow members, I am browsing about information for network coverage.
Upon my research I found from the official Motorola website that there is no band coverage for Europe. But on other websites. I found that there is? Can anyone please shed some light?
Thanks in advance

If there is going to be a international version, i think it's gonna be called Milestone 4.
The Droid 4 hardware has GSM capability but it is currently disabled in the firmware. Verizon announced a couple months ago that they plan to release an update (timeframe unknown) to enable it. I think the problem has something to do with the LTE to GSM handoff or something like that.

Why would that ever happen? Or will it actually allow us to hop onto GSM networks in the US?
The reason for it being disabled was mainly due to the 4g network not being enabled for voice calls. I suspect the update to allow gsm will come with the ICS update in the next 6 to 8 months.

I have a Bionic I've been using on net10 with the att compatible sim. It was a HW C version of the bionic. I've recently acquired 2 of the HW A versions. Connects to tmobile no problem after nv edits and build.prop edits. My question is to the others who've been using a tmobile sim with the bionic... has anyone gotten better than edge in an area where they've updated to 1900mhz? I'm in Lexington,ky and came accross a couple of tweets from tmobile customers with new phones claiming to be running on 1900mhz here, but I'm still only able to get edge. I have no way to confirm that the network upgrade has really started in my area though, and tmobile isn't being forthcoming with their upgrade schedule. You'll hear about a few cities being added here and there, but I've been unable to come across a complete up to date list of cities that have been upgraded. Anybody having any better luck yet?

I have 2 HW As working on T-mobile with 3g as the icon. The bionic is build for WCDMA so 3g is all that will appear. I just did a speed test and got 4480kbps down and 1588kbps up with 121 ping. I am in Dayton Ohio where there is spotty upgrade areas. It might be in specific areas where it works, and not cover a whole region, at least that is the story for me.
That's encouraging then. Im about 12 miles south of the area where those tweets were sent from in lexington,ky. Maybe i should have went closer into town to really test my tmobile sim, but if faster than edge data is going to be that spotty I'll stick with my att sim. So are you saying that even after their upgrade is complete the bionic still won't get 4g on tmobile?
I am sorry to start a new thread, but this is sort of an emergency.
My Lady Susan upgraded to an LG-G2 on Verizon a couple of months ago, and we were assured it was a World Phone. We called Verizon Tech Support, got transferred to the International Travel folks, requested it be unlocked if necessary for use in England and Scotland. They assured us over and over that this phone is not locked in any way and all she would have to do is obtain a sim from some provider like Three in London and put it in and set up the APN as necessary for the LG-G2 to just work over there.
They warned us to pull the Verizon sim out before turning it on in the UK or she might incur international roaming charges - tried to sell her some kind of plan to mitigate that possibility in the process, but admitted that it was unnecessary if she was careful to not have her Verizon sim installed while the phone was powered up in the UK.
She got over there this morning, found a Three store in London, and they told her her Verizon LG-G2 was LOCKED to Verizon-only and could not work with any other provider at all.
She is currently without data or even a UK cell number. Was Verizon wrong about the LG-G2 being possible to use in the UK, or was the guy at the Three store wrong ?
We are not concerned about LTE speeds, most of the area she is traveling through is 3G only at this point anyway. She needs data though, for Hangouts if nothing else.
If the LG-G2 is useless over there, maybe she can buy a pre-paid phone for the two weeks she is traveling. Any suggestions ?
I have told her to find another Three store, or an O2, or anybody that might have a clue, but I fear it was Verizon that was clueless when they told us it would "just work". I use only Nexus devices myself, and my Nexus5 would not have this problem !
To be clear, this is a stock Verizon LG-G2 with the recent LG stock KitKat firmware received and applied via OTA. Not even rooted.
Both Vodaphone and Three shops in London have told Susan today that her Verizon LG-G2 is carrier-locked by Verizon and cannot be used in the UK on either Three or Vodaphone. So, for the next two weeks she is on WiFi only. They both tried to sell her a phone and plan for about $100, so she would have something to use while traveling.

Its not locked, they are incorrect... I don't know the UK market but couldn't she just get a prepaid SIM and set the APNs herself (Verizon global mode phones are notorious for not getting APNs from the SIM)?

She could, if she could...
I told her she would need to set her APN up and change her network mode to GSM instead of CDMA/LTE, but she got That Look in her eyes, so I told her the nice people at the shoppe would be able to help her. And to get a prepaid for mostly data and call me over Hangouts.

Very odd. When I was in the UK a year ago, I used my 'carrier locked' Verizon S3 just by buying a sim from Tesco (major grocery retailer) and upping my balance when needed. Was fairly pain free. And that was when phones were more locked down, and all new phones claim to be global in that sense.

I know, right !
I think she just got a couple of nincompoops at the shops she went to yesterday. Maybe she will have better luck today in Edinburgh.
There can't be anything that wrong with the LG-G2 that it won't work on a GSM sim in Europe. When we were in Italy last year we used both Wind and TIM Sims in Verizon World phones set to GSM mode, worked fine even for playing Ingress.

Just a thank you update...in Edinburgh this morning she was able to find a competent shop clerk and now is busy hacking Ingress portals with cheap and functional sim data ! She kept trying based on your advice until she found someone not trying to sell her a prepaid phone.

All Verizon LTE phones are SIM unlocked, it's part of their deal with the FCC.
