[Q] Best Micro sim card adapter/ cutter to buy for Bionic - Motorola Droid Bionic

Hi all,
I am buying an ipad and want to use the bionic sim card in both devices (obviously not at the same time...)
While I am pretty sure that it will work, I would like to find out which sim card cutters/ adapters work the best to get the job done.
I will be moving the card back and forth pretty frequently so a good adapter is important. (all the amazon kits seem to really suck- being too thick, if anyone has experience with the noosy let me know.)

Do apple devices even use sim cards since they are not 4g? I dont know cause I despise apple products. Which ipad are you referring to...ipad 3?

The sim card isn't exclusive to the bionic, as all the LTE phones use it.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA

All verizon 4g phones have one of two sized sim cards, micro and regular which can be cut to micro.
Important to note is not all adapters will work with all phones, slight tolerance differences in thickness might make it work in some phones but not others. If available I would like to hear some success stories out there.

I used a French knife to cut my bionic SIM to fit my Gnex and a Swiss army knife to cut another old SIM to use as an adapter to put the now Micro sized SIM back in the Bionic.
I am a pastry chef and used to working with knives...it works perfectly!

I feel like a thread necromancer here, but in case anyone's still looking at this, I just got one of these delivered to me:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/stainl...adapters-for-apple-ipad-iphone-4-41275?item=6
The adapters are cheap plastic slips, but the cutter works great. I tested it on some old dead GSM SIMs I had just to see, before I used it on a live SIM. Worked perfectly each time. The edges end up a little rough, but a quick pass with a nail file or even just rubbing them takes that out.

D3 or Charge?

My wife has a Droid 1 that I gave to her when I upgraded to the Charge.
I just used her upgrade to order a Droid 3.
Not accounting for 4g which I don't really care about for myself, which of the two phones would you keep for yourself? All I need to do is swap SIM cards if I decide to go with the Droid 3 for myself.
Well, it's not quite as easy as swapping SIM cards with those 2 phones, since the D3 has a global 3G SIM and the Charge has a 4G SIM. I had to take the two phones into a VZW store when I did the same thing last month.
As for which one to keep, it really depends on what you want out of your phone? Fan of physical keyboards and dual-core processors? Go for the Droid3. Fan of 4G, SAMOLED displays, and unlocked bootloaders? Go for the Charge. Fan of both? Well, now you're in a rough spot...
Honestly it's a tough choice. Both are very worthy phones, and I second-guess my decision to switch to the D3 to the Charge pretty often, because I loved the features of both. But I'm certainly not un-happy with my D3.

Did Verizon charge you to do the sim swap when you went to the store?
And yeah, I'm a fan of both so I can't make up my mind lol.
Well, after talking to my wife, I think I'm taking the droid 3.
She will need the extended battery my Charge has to make it through the day in her building.
Cheers everyone.
Nope, they did not charge me for the sim swap. I was adding a new line of service though, so I'm not certain if that's just something that they'll always do free of charge.

I have been into the verizon store multiple times because i switch phones all the time, they have never charged me for the sim swap.
tbh you dont need an extended battery with the droid 3, I use my droid 3 heavely and havent had a problem making through a day. if you got a bad d3 that I guess would make a difference.
Yeah, I know I won't need one. But she will. even her Droid 1 has problems. She is in an old school building with thick concrete and steel, so she searches for a signal constantly. So she gets the charge with the extended battery, and I get the new hotness with dual cores. I think we both win.

Nexus 4 vs ATT Optimus G

I just returned my ATT branded Optimus G after I got my Nexus 4 and I have to say, I'm kinda missing the OG.
Two things right off the batt are of course 25 meg LTE speeds and plenty of storage.
The Form factor of the N4 is nicer to hold as is JB but the OG had some really nice SW tweaks that made it kinda like JB.
No Google Now of course.
The OG also had a louder external speaker as well as the ear speaker was louder too.
This is my first experience will Stock Google, so I do like the clean setup, but I knew no LTE and 16 gigs of storage was going to be an issue.
The OG was very slippery to hold, yes the N4 is too but it has the tapered edges. The cases for the OG were crap and nothing really out there too.
I'm not taking any LG phone into consideration, not now, and not in the future, even if they become the leader in phone market. Those retards want to charge us the nexus 4 in non-play store countries in europe 500~600 euros... around 640$ to 770$.

It's amusing you said that. I was in an AT&T store last night getting a Micro SIM for my Nexus 4 and I played with the LGOG and thought, "I could never deal with this skin," and was a little put off by it.
Keep in mind, too, that people on T-Mobile and other international HSPA+ networks have comparable 15-25Mbps speeds without the LTE.
Edit - By the way, the folks at the AT&T store had NO CLUE to do with my request just to give me a Micro SIM card. One guy was like, "BUT THE PHONE MIGHT NOT BE CONFIGURED TO WORK WITH OUR NETWORK" and I had to reassure them that, yes indeed, I knew what the hell I was doing.

Just a bit annoyed

China gets an SD Card slot, but none in the US? WTF HTC? Get with the program, I want to upgrade, but also want to stop lugging my almost full 60GB iPod around...
Arrgh. It's all about me, and I want a damn Sprint phone that I can put 60GB+ of music on, as well as have room for photos, videos, apps, etc. FWIW, Streaming isn't always an option with the areas I travel in.
When will Sprint get this phone with a reasonable amount of storage?
They also dont have the unibody design. Att has an exclusive deal for the 64. Everyones moving to the cloud bro. Storage options are just gonna get smaller. Hell even the new chrome os laptops only launched at 32gb

Samsung isn't and neither are most manufacturers; and look at where Samsung is now. Sure their build quality and design is not up to par with others but their phones are packed with features.
When you are competing in a crowded marketplace, it helps to have every feature that is possible to attract the widest range of customers.
Cloud services only work as good as the data connection and Sprint is the worst when it comes to data connection.
OP is just one of many who won't even consider the One because of lack of a SD card. There are countless others who won't complain or post their opinions or give any consumer survey; they will simply shake their head and walk to the next model.
I was one of them and I had filed away the One under my 'not preferred list', however the low, low, price that I had to pay for it, plus the USB OTG support won me over.
And HTC has shown that it is possible to include an SD slot in it, so why the hell not?

Pretty much this. And while your bandwidth may not be acceptable in some areas, 32GB of storage for this phone is more than enough to put most of your favorites on just in case you aren't in an area with 3G or LTE. If expandable storage is what you're going after, you might as well jump ship and pick up an S4, or downgrade to an EVO 4G LTE (which is still a pretty relevant phone considering it'll be getting an upgrade that puts it at Sense5).

Their unibody design is one of their main selling points. Thats why they released videos of the manfacture process. I rely on the cloud for everything. So the unibody+no sd slot was a nobrainer for me. And if you look at technology as a whole, the focus is on the cloud. Phones not as much but the stance is growing. The recent Google I/O basically boiled down to "Google glass lololzors Cloud EVERYTHING"

Admittedly, I'm on a SERO plan, but the fact of the matter is that Cloud for everything will end up eating a lot of data and result in data throttling eventually. I prefer to use my unthrottled speed on data that I don't already own

I'm on SERO as well with very spotty LTE and just all around bad 3G. There's never really a time that I've run into not having data when I need it, unless I was in BFE North Florida in the middle of nowhere. And data throttling has never happened with Sprint, and so far has not been hinted at ever happening, at least not in the foreseeable future.
I used to want to carry ALL my EVERYTHING all the time but I grew out if that.
Don't see the point in trying to cram dozens of gigs of stuff into a device that I will likely never access. *Shrug*
I have a friend who wouldn't get anything without an sd card because he had "8 to 9 nand backups" and I said "wow, that's excessive and has no reflection of a fault on the design of the device but of your data hoarding practices" he almost seemed offended.

USB OTG will solve those issues of local storage without streaming. Once you get used to it you'll be spoiled. I tend to carry a lot of development around on a phone and I still havent missed the sdcard. I rarely use OTG but I know its there when I need it. And since the OTG adapters were like 1.99 I have one everywhere so I don't ever think about carrying it with me, due to having them stashed all over the place. And the option is there for a lot more space than an sdcard.

There's a SIM card slot in the unibody design; surely it is possible to include a SD card slot somewhere on the periphery?
All B&N Nooks have a SD card slot on the periphery of their devices.
With millions of $$ being spent on R & D by HTC, surely they could have found a way to include it in a unibody design?
The CEO has famously stated that he will resign from his post if the One turns out to be a failure. While it may not be a failure, shouldn't he be aiming for 'wild success' instead of 'mild success'?
Lack of an SD card may not bother many, but it is a no-no for a few. Shouldn't HTC target all those people too, especially when they are lagging in the market?
If they were market leaders, I can understand their doing this but not when they are struggling.
I upgraded to the One despite my reservations about the SD slot, the low price tempted me into buying it. I love the design, the construction and they way it works. But the lack of an SD card irks me. I plan on using the OTG support for an external reader but it is not the same.
The issue with finding a way to incorporate an sd slot in the unibody design is the fact that they literally ran out of room to the point that they had to INJECT moldable plastic into the device.

As much as I hate Apple and the iPhone/iPad/iPod, their non-removable battery and absence of the expandable storage has shown over the years that people get by without it. Sure, a MicroSIM slot was added to ALL of the phones, but it's pretty much necessary to have it. Regardless of whether we want to see an HTC One with expandable storage or not on Sprint, unless Sprint says "make us another EVO with the specs of the One and the added SD card slot, it's probably not going to happen." This is pretty much becoming the standard across A LOT of manufacturers, and whether Samsung takes that road or not, they're not winning that many people over just because of that "feature." Only a small percentage of people want it to keep EVERY song they own, or a movie library, or every app that Google Play has to offer. To the rest of the buyers, it's just the fact that it's a beautifully designed piece of hardware that's capable of getting them through the day.

It's probably Sprint that went for the no SD Card Slot Option and HTC just sold it to them as requested.
I would gladly have paid an extra 100 bucks for a 64gb edition One on sprint. Sigh, hopefully next year's phone will have that much storage on Sprint

Too bad HTC didn't say we want this phone to be the "One" with the most storage. We are going to put 128gb on-board and fulfill all your storage delights for the year setting the bar for other phone manufactures to follow.

Possible overheating caused by poorly cut Micro Sim.

Hi
I was listen a lot peoples talking about Nexus 4 have some problems with overheating, and I can be include in this list too, but my problem with overheating was solved when Orange give me a real micro Sim, before this I cut myself the old Sim to Micro Sim but I don't do this right, but with the real microSim my nexus are much better cold and the battery life.
I hope this information help can somebody.
Hmmm sure why not, it could possible. if the self cut micro SIM was dated and possibly made it tougher to transmit anything due to it being old and not fully "4g capable" thus causing the phone to strain more.

Wow, when I did a terrible hack job on my sim card, I didn't even think it would work as I accidentally cut into the gold metal strip. Not only did it work, I didn't notice any difference whatsoever in heat or battery life. Placebo maybe...??...
Needs more science no speculation please.

It is less likely a poor cut job and more likely a faulty sim card to begin with. I do notice that the harder the radio has to work, the hotter the back glass gets. You may have not noticed your sim card was not up to snuff with your previous phone because it didn't have a back glass that heats up like the N4.

Even my SIM cut with a SIM cutting tool gave me some problems which were extremely unusual and i thought my phone had a bad radio. Swapped SIMs and life seems good again.
Worth mentioning maybe that the gold circuit on my sim was much much larger than on newer SIMs. It was almost the entire micro SIM size. My current micro can be chipped down to a nano without losing any circuitry.
I noticed no difference when moving from my hand cut (without a template) micro SIM and a factory produced micro SIM.
You know the sales person at the T-Mobile store I go to said they don't sell micro SIMs, so he has to cut a normal one if I want a replacement. I wanna compare a micro to a cut sim but it looks like the store isn't helpful. And do you guys know if current customers have to pay for micro sims?

Simple trick
Bad sim cutters generally leave slivers on the edges of the newly cut sim. A simple trick is to take a nail file and file the edges smooth. Make sure ur sim now sits flush into the card tray of the phone.
Slip it in.. Problem solved.
Hit thanks if this helped!
The thing is that there are actually different types of SIM. I had an old one... about 5 years old.. that didn't allow my lte to work, swapped for one of the new ones and lte worked.... this is with doing the lte hack of course... but I don't think it affected the heat from my phone. But every phone is different and there are "older" SIMs that could be a factor. Not like this is going to go anywhere since nobody is going to experiment this theory anyways lol

I bought a Nexus 4 on the 22nd June. The store guy used a cutter to cut my sim into a micro sim.
From the very beginning I noticed that the battery was draining very quickly even when I would not use the phone at all (for example one night it was 75% when I went to bed and morning it was below 50%). I had no apps installed and all data connections (WiFi/3G) were turned OFF.
The max life I got out of the battery was not more than 18 hours! (1 hr screen time)
I installed Battery Stats Plus and found that the Sim Toolkit was the top of the list in the wake usage. I was surprised and then came across threads like this and figured it might be an issue with the micro sim.
I got a new micro sim from my carrier (Vodafone India) on the 29th June. On comparing the two SIMs, I found that older cut SIM had one of the edges at a slight angle instead of being perfectly straight. This allowed some play of the sim in the phones sim slot. The new sim has no play what so ever.
With the new sim, the battery life has improved significantly. Average time is close to 1day 6hrs (with WiFi ON most of the time and a few calls).
I'm now strongly inclined to believe the micro sim should be either cut to perfection or better to just use a new one provided by your carrier.
I'll attach a few screen shots later (I'm at work).

[Q] Stylus and Sim Card Question

I found an Elago stylus on Amazon and I was wondering if I can use it with the HTC One? Since I'm a new user here, I can't post links. The stylus I'm referring to is titled elago Stylus Slim for iPhone, iPad and Galaxy. There's no mention of HTC so I want to know if I can use it regardless.
I'm coming from iPhone 5, and as you may know the iPhone 5 uses a nano sim card. I read in one of the discussions here that I can use my nano sim card in the HTC One by using a nano to micro sim adapter. I searched on Amazon and I found Nano to Micro/Normal SIM Card Adapter for Apple iPhone 5 4S 4G 3GS 3G. Can someone please let me know if this will work?
Thanks in advance!
