witch ics rom?? - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

any suggestions on a good ics rom for the touchpad other then the CM9 nightly?what do u suggest?
thanx

I've been using AOKP myself with no real complaints. It has a lot of extra adjustments in the settings panel as well. I've never used the nightly roms personally but from what others have said there's the chance of a bum rom once in a while. Cyanogen seems to be the most stable, but plain. Classicnerd roms are smooth with nice graphics, but for me it was wifi issue city. Their first run with evervolv was very stable but was before the hardware acceleration and HD youtube was corrected. Cherrykang gave me sleep of deaths but I believe the issue has since been fixed. I personally didn't like the solution as it ate up battery while sleeping heavier than I cared for. Never tried the cornerstone rom. And the bricked rom didn't do anything special for me.
I've also been using the upgraded driver pack for the video as well as the wifi with this AOKP rom and its super stable. Try em out. You'll find something you like.

What's the upgraded pack?

If you look through the rootzwiki forums for the touchpad you will find them. I was browsing and found the alternate wifi and video drivers both in flashable zip files.

I flashed the alpha2 and the improvement pack, things look good at moment . If only I could reduce the battery usage on standby would be great .

I recommend the latest nightlies, it has a few decent fixes plus the home screen grid is better on different dpi settings.
Also, you can reduce standby drain by changing your wifi setting to "on when charging" so your device will sleep.

best rom for droid 1

I am curious what the best rom yall suggest is for the droid 1..
i have heard bugless beast is pretty good... any other suggestions
Try miui with a slayer kernal... you can find the download for the rom at code.google.com/p/d1-miui

Ultimate Droid 1.0.0 is by far the smoothest and quickest ROM that I've run.

Huge fan of Cyanogen 6.0... just switched to the latest nightly and it's even better. That's just my .02
My buddy wants some help rooting and wants better battery life, any suggestions? (Im on an evo so im unfamiliar with droid roms)

I like Cyanogen nightlies. They're fast and work. Not sure if there is a big difference in battery life. I just rooted a couple weeks ago and keep trying different ROMs, Kernels, Themes, settings combination, which tends to keep me charging.
Id definitly have to say UD 1.0.0 or MIUI for droid. UD for speed, smoothness, stability, and themes. And MIUI for speed and just plain aesthetic appearance

I just can't give up the features and customization. I've just loaded nightly build 160 and the new features in it rule. There are a couple of bugs, but that's because it's not in its stable release yet.
As far as themes - I make my own and just Morph them in. It's never a big deal and they work with any version of CM because I'm only changing PNGs. All of the conflicting text colors can be modified within CM Settings.
Android: it's whatever you want it to be.
ShadowRom v.0.2.1 P3 of 1ghz Kernel. Fast as you need it smooth as can be and battery life is amazing! Smoked glass theme is a nice touch on top of it all.
cant go wrong with liquid frozen yogurt 1.71 frg83 2.2.1 froyo... fast and reliable.
i have bugless beast now
i am trying to get cyngnamod but its not liking me... it wont download
id go with ud 1.0.0. for battery life. simplystunning 4.9 for rediculous speed. i used chevyno1 1.1ghz kernel for both roms
Shadowrom v0.2.2 best battery life and I have tried all roms sorry but IMO shadow rom tops them all with battery life and settings. Only down side to shadow rom only kernels you can flash are p3's but it fast and very stable

Best ROM IMHO
I present to you sir, a ROM that is fast, stable, and has tremendous battery life. What more can you ask for? The ROM that I speak of is called Charity, and I have supplied you today with a link to such a ROM.

With this, I am running 1.1 GHz with a promise to go higher using chevy1s kernels. It has bloatware removed and I ran a 1400 on my benchmark today. It is excellent on battery life, I use it from 6am to about 10pm, with texting all day and music playing for 3 hours of the day, and mild browsing of internet.
Just try it, its magical! *-*

CM7 or MIUI ?

Hey so I am on Simple Honey JVB right now and I am looking for a change
So which one should I go for? CM 7 or MIUI? I am mainly concerned about battery drain, because I use my phone quite a lot during the day.
Thanks
I recently switched from darky to Cg7 and the battery drain got a lot worse.
There's currently issues with cm7 about battery drain (see Google code open issues) so you should wait until a stable cm7 is released

CM7 - new nightly was released yesterday - battery life looks much better than before. But if you are concerned wait for stable.
I using MIUI and its really fast and amazing custom, I'm worse only on battery drain, but all are working good
battery on both CM7 and MIUI are comparable as miui is mostly based on CM7. Nevertheless, new releases have improved battery life and keeps getting better!
Worth a shot!

Whats the best rom for now?

Hey,
at the moment im running nightlies latest version.
But im searching for something more stable, and maby faster.
Its hard to folow witch one is the best there are so many different once.
So Someone who tried most of em? With one is the best
Tnx allready!

Hi I'm using Gueste 2.1 (with SR1 kernel, Go Launcher and the ICS theme from the subforum). Overall it's a great ROM, the battery use graph says i'm using it for 4 days (2G, 45min wifi, 25min calls and some photos) with 1 charge . That's insane, i've only managed to get 1.5-2 days with stock. Speed is better than stock, but it is not buttery smooth in Settings menu. I'm waiting for Gueste 2.2 with the new kernel, developer says it will be smoother. Hope i helped!
Well, instead of running cm nightlies you could try CM7.2 kangs those are better than the nightlies and also more stable.

You people that have the option to turn 3g off are lucky my network forces it so if its switched off i lose network coverage, they only allow 2g switch if your not in a 3g zone which is rare so my battery gets eaten in a day.

Hello!
Define best rom!?!
It is last but not least a question of taste.
All the latest ROMs (CM7.2-RC0-KANGs, MIUI 12+, custom roms based on stock source V20m and up) seem to be pretty stable…
All have their pros and cons.
MIUI has a UI concept similar to iOS – if you like that – go for it…
CM7.2 has a more vanilla approach of gingerbread…
…or a stock source based rom (i.e. Gueste2x) with the look and feel of the original LG stuff, but with more speed and less bugs…
All these latest roms will do for everyday use.
I like CM7 most but that is just my cup of tea.
oke peaple tnx for your reactions !

[Q] CM9 - 20130310 Nightly - Bad battery drain

Hey guys, I am running CM9 20130310 nightly on 4 different touchpads and the battery life is bad on all of them. I was running CM9 20121223 nightly and was very happy with the battery life and overall performance. Am I missing something regarding what kind of battery life to expect? Oh and with the current ROM I can only use the HP Power Charger where before I could charge with anything that plugged in. Can I go back to the 20121223? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks for all the hard work and development you guys have done, it is truly amazing what has been accomplished. :good:
Try a CM10 build
There is a low sleep power draw fix that has been implemented in SGA's CM10 ROMs. I'd highly recommend that ROM, I've been using it as a daily driver.
If you want the same power fix in a CM9 ROM, try this:

Is that a full cm9 rom or is that just a fix for it? Ive been using nightly cm9 for a long time now and dont want to switch but would like this fix. Do I just wipe the cache and install in recovery?

Its a full ROM with the fix integrated. Since your already on CM9 you could probably just flash this over what you have after clearing cache/dalvik.

I've spent many many hours over the last year or so trying to find the cause of the extra battery drain during deep sleep.
I finally found the cause in February. I then spent 2-3 weeks developing and testing fix(es) to take full advantage of the
lower battery drain during deep sleep (I had to make some changes to how the wifi driver worked, for example).
The result of this work was first released to the public with my 20130304 CM10 preview release.
My fixes for deep sleep power drain were quickly copied by others.
The link to the CM9 ROM above points to a build I made to test the fixes with CM9.
I plan to merge these fixes into the CM9 "nightlies" soon.
How do I measure/ track battery drain. What kind of battery life should I expect/get playing games, surfing etc? What about having to use the HP Power Charger only, any advice?

Battery Monitor Widget is good for checking battery drain.
Drain can vary greatly depending on what you are doing.
My best suggestion for reducing drain is to turn the screen brightness down to the minimum.
It's best to use the HP AC Charger or Touchstone to charge.
Battery Monitor widget works great and uses hardly any resources. Here is a screenshot of the stats it generates showing the low sleep power draw on my Touchpad:

[Q] the best galaxy i9000 rom

i tried cyanogenmod 10.2 but it has no fm radio i said ok . but it does not support network connections over edge , 3g. i want to know which rom is the most stable and fast and good looking and has no bugs or at least few known ones for my galaxy s i9000. and thanks.
Edge and 3G working well with CM 10.2. For FM radio you could try SpiritFM.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
try the
Mackay 4.4 is one of the best i tryied!
;D
When I tried CM 10.0 & 10.1 (stables) the roms functioned oké, but terrible battery life with their own CM-kernel. That was fixed with both roms after changing the kernel to Semaphore which gave much more batterylife. (I never use FM, but with Semaphore manager among others FM can be switched on and radio worked on my SGS1 tested with Spirit FM).
However each time after trying new CM I tried latest stable Slim Bean (which has Semaphore-kernel included) and never looked back. For me Slim Bean blew CM totally out of the water concerning performance and batterylife. (Stability both good by the way). And very nice options in rom such as Real Dark Slim.
Now I am strongly concidering trying Mackay 4.4 (instead of SlimKat bèta). Not only because I want KitKat on my i9000. As it appears to function better with our low RAM. Especially the very alive community around it tickles my curiousity.
Anyone has experience with both Slim and Mackey? How does performance, stability and batterylife differ between them? And which of Mackey's function better? Omni- or CM-based?

I don't know with KK (yet) if also working, but CM-JB with Semaphore kernel instead of CM-kernel and Semaphore Manager one can switch on FM Radio and use Spirit FM. Most likely there is a thread for KK.

Even though best rom threads arent allowed on xda, ill post my reply: cm10.2.0- superfast, only slight lags while gaming, good battery life, no bugs that i can see.
just moved from cm11 with semaphore to cm11&mackay kernel. best descision ever. great battery live (8h of no big use/79% battery left) and pretty fast too - depends on mackay settings. :victory:
i am useing mackay rom 4.1.8 (from 04.01.14) and the phone is amazing, it was never as fast and good as now (android 4.2 and 4.3 were complet garbage for the sgs)
even though i will buy the xperia Z1 compact in a few weeks, i will keep the sgs for my workouts in the gym
i'm using Mackay CM9 and is working very good
My SGS has had almost all possible roms. After 3 years of changing roms. I've go back to almost Stock version of 2.3.6 XWJW8 with semaphore kernel 2.7.4. with smart launcher 2. It is fast enought.
And what is most important it works more than few days without update.
So i if you need stable phone I suggest to check this setup
You can't just say what's the best rom because every rom it's different just like the users and how they use their phone. But if you wanna know some quick facts here we go:
Stock GB has the best battery because it lacks feature and with a good kernel it can be pretty fast.
Now talking about custom roms :
ICS, in my opinion has better battery than JB or KK. Free ram is pretty high, second place, first is KK.More features than GB not so many as JB or KK
JellyBean : not much of a big fan but i can say that 4.1.2 was by far the best from all the versions. The battery and resources consumption was fair and has more features than the precedents.
KitKat is my favourite. The battery consumption it's ok and it has more free ram than any other android versions and the features are just great.
As for kernel i'm a big fan of Stratosk's Semaphore kernel. No matter what rom i use the kernel is the same.
If you wanna try custom KitKat rom you can try these ones(these are the only ones that i have tested like 2 to 4 weaks each)
SlimKat - Very very smooth just like all their custom roms.Nice features like TRDS, SlimPie and others. Ram usage is good but the battery is draining a little fast for me but this is just my case and maybe others have different experience.
Mackay's Kitkat - This is also a very nice kitkat rom.it's smooth it has good features but just like the one above, i don't like the battery and after some time it became a little laggy.
C-Rom - This is the last one which i'm using right now.I love this one.Ram usage is good , i like the battery( i can get over 19 hours) ,it has great features.Never felt my i9000 so smooth.
My test where done with 3g/wifi on all the time, more than 3 hours screen time, music for 2-3 hours, facebook, whatsapp and others(daily). Some of the apps are greenified and some frozen.
Hope this helps you !

Sounds interesting to try C-Rom then. SlimKat 3.0 Official runs good and smooth here, but indeed battery life (not idle/sleep, but) when using is wildly guessing at least about 33 percent less than my favorite JB before Slim Bean 4.3.1 last stable/official. Music/podcasts for instance at least two hours less battery time. And in every KK thread you read about bad battery life.
On a site note. My 'modern' Nexus 7 2013 with stock Android also performed better on JB than KK. A clean flash of factory rom and factory reset didn't help. For example battery life (active with screen on time and/or playing music/podcast) JB 4.3.1 was 12-13 hours. KK 4.4 had 8-9 and now KK 4.4.2 does 10-11 hours. The contrary of media srories about KK being better optimized and lower on resources and Ram. And I read a lot simular experiences around the net.
So I was considering on SGS1 going back to JB, but first try Mackay's ICS 2014. Perhaps I'll give C-rom first a chance. And perhaps if it arrives meanwhile newest SlimKat stable. When still battery life not as good as JB before, definitely ICS 2014 or Slim Bean again.

dear masters, im looking for a custom rom that works with the voodoo sound app from playstore.
ics, jb or kk will do.
im currently running on cm10.2-20130826-nightly-galaxysmtd build (first sgs phone i have), it says on my voodoo app that it has a built in voodoo sound but i cant really hear the improvement (weak volume) over my other sgs with gb 2.3.5. + voodoo sound app from playstore (another sgs i bought from an online store).
some of the forum i visited says there is a tab for the wolfson dac on the dsp manager but i have non on my sgs running a custom rom.
i also tried installing a semaphore kernel but no luck, my sgs says that
no need to load module
built in kernel voodoo sound: v.0
"device or kernel not suppported.... "
any recommendations?
