Hello,
I've done a lot of searching on this topic, but I'm not sure what information is outdated and what information is current. I had an i717 on LTE (AT&T), and am switching to N-7000, and need help making sure the transition is smooth. I'm also new to droid so pardon the noobness.
1. Network - can I just swap the sim over, and use APN restore? I've seen talk of having to input APN's, or calling AT&T to make sure you're on the 'correct' 4G data plan instead of LTE, and stuff about provisioning with IMEI's?
2. Root/rom/kernel: I had saurom and dag overclock on the i717 and it was very simple to root and install...it seems a lot more complicated for the international note? What are the easiest steps to get it rooted, in plain english?
3. Once rooted, with CWM, can I just flash roms and kernels through CWM, then restore through titanium backup as before?
4. Do I have to use different APN settings for different roms? I'm currently interested in Rocket Rom and Franco/Darky kernel - any other suggestions for stable/fast rom/kernel combos?
Would appreciate your help, thank you!

The answer to the above is yes.
As for APN settings: I never had to do a thing about it after flashing roms. Everything would automagically work. Don't know if it'll work the same way for you (I'm in Europe).
Appreciate the input =)

Been a long time iPhone user and have been really curious about Android. Then I came across a deal for a refurb SGHi987 for $199 and the time and price was right so I picked one up. I can jailbreak iOS with my eyes closed but am a complete noob when it comes to android.
A few questions.
1. What is the best tool to root?
2. Can rooting be undone in case I want to exercise my warranty?
3. Flashing custom ROM such as Overcome ROM v2.0.0 BETA 2, will I be able to revert back to AT&T's original firmware?
in my opinion, rooting can be undone if you backed up your tab before doing something screwy with it. not sure though if it would work. never tried it myself.
Superoneclick using the rageagainstthecage option has a root and unroot process that many reported success with on some na p1000 tabs.
It seems getting back to stock after flashing can be easy, complicated or impossible,
depends on if you have a proper backup of your original tab, the stock rom, etc.
Rotobackup would backup and recover basic flashes but I dont think he is making roto roms anymore. The newer roms and kernals seem more complex.
Im interested in reading replies here as well about clockwork etc.

So for us Verizon (CDMA) tab users, What is our options for flashing a rom? I mean I keep reading but nothing really sticks out here. Can a whole buch of you guys suggest a few roms out here or there that I can flash?
Plus whats the deal with clockwork? I installed bootstrapper and it jacked up my tab!!! Thought I bricked it... I went ahead and did a backup or I think a nandroid backup went into recovery mode hit restore backup and I got stuck. Any one have answer for that? As to why that would happen?
So once again, How many roms do us verizon tab users have to flash? Plus how can we get a working Nandroid backup? Any links provided would also be greatly appreciated.
Thankl You for your time.
So no one here has a Verizon Galaxy Tab running a different rom other than stock?
Hi im new to the forms an i have a few rooting questions. I have an HTC Hero CDMA, but it's running on metropcs (which leads me to belive that is has already been rooted). I want to root my phone yet i dont know if i can because i think it is already rooted. If i were to "reroot" my phone will the careier information be deleted? Is there a way to backup my curent "stock" rom? And if i can backup my curent rom will my carier information be saved as well? I also wanted to know if i can somehow set my carier info manually, in the event that after rooting my phone it doesn't connect to metorpcs.

Rooting Won't Mess up Anything...
A Quick way to see if your Rooted is to Simply Install a Application that Requires Root!
Next if you Do have Root Install Tomorrow Manager and Flash a Recovery and Make a Nandroid Backup of your Current Rom, this way you can Always go back if something goes Wrong!
I've got a CDMA Hero 200 running on the MTS network here in Canada. This may be a stupid question, but if I flash the Cyanogen Mod to it so I can save apps2SD and wipe the cache/settings as it seems I'm supposed to do, will that wipe all the programming from the phone that connects me to my network? It's CDMA so you can't just pull the SIM card b/c it doesn't have one.
In other words will I have to get the phone reprogrammed so it will connect with the mobile network for voice/data or do those settings stay in the phone even if you wipe it before flashing the new ROM? I'm guessing my carrier likely frowns upon rooting and flashing third party ROM's so they probably wouldn't be interested in programming the phone for me if it wipes those settings. I guess I just don't want to flash a ROM in the hopes of making my phone more useful only to make it useless by eliminating the programming and data connection.
If any of you seasoned vets could help a stupid noob out I'd appreciate it.
upgrading (and i mean upgrading lol) your phone from stock to cyanogenmod will not touch any of your network settings.
the only thing i can really think of that doing something would wipe your network settings would be a rtn reset, or an ruu stock rom flash which you wont even be close to doing.
flash away i say, cyanogenmod, ics and zero hero are way better than the stock rom
Just do a backup of your current stock ROM in case anything goes wrong.

I'm an MTS user, if you use a rom like Cyanogen7, it is slightly faster then most roms but it will say SPRINT on the lockscreen and pulldownbar, that is tough to get rid of, I like ZeroHero cause its awesome!!!

That's actually very easy to get rid of.
Push this eri.xml in /data after a factory data reset (before reboot). Change cellular south to your carrier...

Like Dastin1015 said, backup then install the any rom to your hearts desire.
Try the Zero Hero Sense based rom. It's pretty snazzy!
Okay so I've got everything ready to go with the ROM on my SD card, but I'm wondering when I click to flash the ROM in ROM Manager do I just select the .zip version of the ROM from my SD card or do I have to unzip it first?
Thanks for all the help. I can't wait for my phone to be useful again.
to my knowledge...
nothing will mess with the modem of your phone unless you somehow flashed a GSM HERO rom.
but i don't have a canadian hero cdma :/

Don't unzip.
I always reboot into recovery and install zip from there. You can format and wipe after making a nandroid. I've never installed a zip from rom manager... but thats just me.

But when I am on LTE my download and upload speeds are so low. I have updated APN settings and tried different ones with no luck. I had no issues with 4G LTE before so I'm wondering if maybe I missed a step or something. My download rate is .56 Mbps and my upload is .42 Mbps...which is awful. I really am at a loss right now as to what to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
So.....
So noone has any advice? I've searched and searched. Apparently no one else is having this issue or they just don't realize it yet.

My only suggestion would be to delete the ROM slit and start over. I haven't heard of anybody else having this problem on the GPE ROM, so it sounds like it might just be a bad flash. Try again and let me know what happens.
Also list the steps you went through when you flashed the ROM, then we'll know if you missed a step.
No luck,
Here's the steps I took:
Downloaded safestrap, i9295 ROM, MF3 and camera fix.
Installed the latest safestrap.
Installed recovery
Booted to recovery
Created ROM slot 1
Installed i9295 ROM in ROM slot 1
Installed mf3
Installed camera fix
Rebooted.
Hopefully there is something I am missing or maybe I should just call at&t and see if its on there end. Wifi and Bluetooth work just fine.
Do you get normal speeds on your stock slot? If yes then it's definitely a ROM issue, if not then it's an AT&T issue.
The steps you are using are correct so you should be getting the same speeds as your stock slot.
So if I was a genius and flashed over the stock slot to begin with? Would that be the issue? Does 4G LTE require the stock rom to be there?

Oh boy. I've seen people doing that in the Verizon and AT&T threads, but you may be the first person who's done it on the S4 Active. I personally haven't done it so I don't know how much help I can be. According to the other threads you should be fine and everything should work properly, so I'm not sure what happened. My suggestion would be to Odin back to MF1 stock and make sure that you are indeed getting higher speeds. Then flash GPE to a ROM slot and confirm your speeds once again. If they both are working as expected, then try flashing GPE to your stock slot.
I've have GPE in ROM slot 1 right now and I'm getting the same speeds that I do on my stock slot. Other than basically starting from scratch I don't really know what to tell you. It might be a good idea to look through the Verizon and AT&T threads and see if anybody else has your same problem.
It may be of help
Are you on ATT network? If you are, i would flash "Hyperdrive ATT Compatibility patch" , you can find it in the Verizon S4 "Hyperdrive Rom" tread in the forum. It works great on other roms too.
Or make sure that you are not over the limit on your phone monthly internet, ATT wireless data plan, because if you are , they will slow down the speed for you until the end of your current billing cycle.

I had this problem on my att s4. I337. I noticed it while running GE rom. Then flashed cleanrom. Same issue. Then it seemed like my stock slot was having issues too. So today I reflashed the stock rom and removed safestrap. The phone has been working normal again. I don't know if it is root related or safestrap related. Maybe something about GE rom messes the modem up somehow. what version of safestrap do you have?
I have the newest version of safestrap.
Tried installing the hyperdrive att compatibility patch...sent my phone into a boot loop. So that's a no go. Guess I'll just have to live with it till I get a new phone.
