[Q] Not entering sleep mode?

Hi,
I have a issue with my SGS which is rather irritable, my phone won't go to sleep, so I'm expriencing bad battery life.
Right now through the spare parts app, my phone reports the time spent without sleeping is 2 hours and 1 minute since last unplugged.
Android 2.1
Model Number GT-19000
Firmware Version 2.1update1
Baseband Version 19000DTJ3
Build Number ECLAIR.DTJG4
Voodoo lagfix beta4 installed
I figured it may be an app so I did a factory reset but it did not help, so I assumed it was voodoo which lead me to this thread /showthread.php?t=786509
If I apply the Voodoo_3.0_with_stock_JM8_update.zip will my issue be rectified?
and as I do not have 3BR is all i need to do is apply the update through adb recovery mode?

Can anyone tell me how to solve this?

Where in spareparts do you see the sleep time, maybe this is the cause for my bad idle battery life recently.

Spare parts>Battery History> Select last unplugged (when you unplugged it from the charger)> Press on running bar, and it will tell you how long your phone has been running without sleeping. Mine is not sleeping at all, I'm going to disable voodoo to see if it fixes the issue.

Help! Galaxy Tab battery not charge after change the rom (P1000N)

Hi all
It all started when wanting to change my Android 2.2 to 2.3. I followed the steps
but when the installation using Odin, resumed in black screen (But music sounded the beginning), finding no solution tried down again to version 2.2.
P1000NUBJM2 version installed then, this worked, but every time I press the Power button the Galaxy restarts.
then installed a previous version P1000LVJJMA, also works, though now
said to be a P1000L.
Everything was fine until yesterday that the battery is completely drain. When
connect to the charger or usb cable, no load, the icon battery is flashing
after 1 hour is no more than 3 to 5% load.
Any ideas?

I have a similair problem (but then the opposite) .SGT starts charging. After 10 minutes it gives the message completely charged. When I start using it within 5 minutes the battery is empty. I'm still on 2.2 because there's not enough time (battery) to flash it. This happened yesterday at once (only rooted it). I can see what's consuming the power but I can't influence how it's loading.
Could the 'rooting' be of any influence ?
Somebody else this problem ? Or even better an idea OR SOLUTION ?

I suggest you try to install another rom if you are capable of doing so.
one of the ROMs you used (P1000LVJJMA) contains (afaik) a protected bootloader, so what you basically need to do is to find yourself a rom that can be installed on that bootloader (e.g ROTO-JME), charge your battery, patch the bootloader, and update to something nice like overcome with gingerbread or something.
What actually causes the tab to not charge i cant tell you, but i've read on the forums that software is responsible for the charging-mechanism, so if the software responsible doesnt work properly, that can be a reason for it not to charge.

[Q] problem of 4.0.3 ROM German version, unrooted

I have encountered a problem and need some help pls...
I recently flashed to 4.0.3 official rom German version (not leaked version), unrooted. I downloaded the firmware from samsung-updates.com, upgraded the phone, everything worked fine.
However, i found out recently that sometime if i left phone idle, the battery drains really quickly. say if i charged it up to 100% and left it over night, next morning, it will only have 60% left.
firstly, i went to Settings, then Battery, i found out even when the screen is OFF, the is still keep on "awake" -ing, i then downloaded CPU spy, i can see that when the battery drains quickly, CPU was constantly operating in 200MHz, something must be running in the background all the time.
I also downloaded betterbatterystatus, i have checked the wakelocks, everything worked fine.
I wonder if any of you guys have the same problem.
This does not happen often, and i believe restart the phone can "cure" it temporarily, but it will come back you dont know when...
btw, i have turned off google+ services.
please help and excuse my English.

You have Wifi on? Or added a new app recently? I usually reboot my phone when I install a new app since last time I installed a new app there was battery drain issue.

This helped making my phone deep sleep and decreasing battery drain
0.go to settings > sound and turn off touch sounds and screen lock sounds
These steps stop the kernel wakelock 100% problem:
1.turn on aeroplane mode
2.turn off device
3.take out battery for 10 seconds
4.turn on device
5.wait for everything to load
6.turn off aeroplane mode

I had the same issue and solved it by doing the following steps:
1. Allow a charge to 100% to occur
2. Before you unplug the charger, unlock your phone to the homescreen
3. Restart your phone
After doing this, I noticed my phone goes into deep sleep and my battery lasts longer throughout a day.

Mine did that, but I did the charge up, airplane mode, shutdown trick and it
fixed it.
Got a friend on an older galaxy captive, he finally got around to upgrading to GB,
and his was rooted before the update and he forgot to unroot before the update.
After the update, part of the old root program was running all the time sucking his battery down. After he figured out a way to get rid of it, the problem with battery drain stopped.
If the charge, airplane, shutdown trick doesn't work, download something like CPU Spy and see what's taking up the battery. Could be something left over from GB still running.

I was having a heating problem when charging the device (Battery temperature above 46C) and huge battery drain.
This was fixed after following the above steps.

2 weeks ago I finally bought my very first android based HH, GNOTE...currently I'm running on ICS LPF Taiwan unroot, and very love it. one of my concern on this ICS, is the battery drain so much, considering it just sit on my pocket.
i have CPU Spy and BBS Installed, and found that it just Deep Sleep 48% and 200MHz 37 %. Kernel Wakelock is "multipdp" 25% Power Manager Services 21,2% and secril_fd-interface 19.25.
could you please tell me what causing this battery drain so much..?

The best thing that you could do is do a Factory Reset, but with all the bricking problems it's highly discouraged. I don't recognise the processes, but you should make sure that you deleted all the apps you never use, since one of then could be causing the problems you have.

After upgrading to German ICS, also had problems with wakelocks (phone never sleeped)
Done this (posted on XDA somewhere) and it worked:
Turn Flight Mode ON
Turn Off the Phone
Take out the battery for 30 secs
Plug battery back
Turn on the phone
Wait until all is loaded and turn off Flight Mode.
Also, always disconnect from the charger with screen ON and unlocked.
After using this 2 metods, never had a wakelock again (multipdp etc)

i've tried those two methods, and still got multipdp issue...
i also have disabled the fast dormancy with *#9900# command, but still no effect, ...could you please or someone give another way to solve this..

Stop syncing from your gmail account.
The big one is unplugging charger with screen on.

regarding that did you mean that i have to stop receiving email on my Galaxy Note..?? for me that's really important since i bought my note to support my daily job...
is it the main cause..? if yes, i think i should buy another battery as a way out.

I also have encountered the same problem with my galaxy note after the stock ics update in India.
I have checked out the earlier posts on the same issue..
Some users had the problems of deep sleep and some others had other problems..bt as far i have been able to understand this problem...it is associated with those apps which we often use..for eg i had been using apex launcher for so long...and it used to suck my phones battery like hell also coz of the widgets and the other things that it use.
So what i did was a simple factory reset and a data wipe and didn't install the apex launcher again.
I let my phones battery drain completely and charged it till 100% and simply rebooted it and removed the battery too. And its working good now.
Those things which suckedy battery included android system and display...i could do any thing about display but i force stopped may process of android system and results are good.
One more reason for battery drain could be that when we go backs from the apps on stock ics on galaxy note..the apps do not get closed comletely like stock web browser which works in the background too..so might be other reason for so.
Don not install those apps which u dont use often coz they might work in background add unnecessorily suck ur bettery.
Try the battery pull off trick it really works for majority of users.
Force close those apps and processes which u feel unnecessory.
Those whose claim ics doesnt work smooth on their note they pls go the develpers option in settings and enable the force GPU rendering option then it will work smooth like anything...
One more thing which u may already know about galaxy note ics is that now it runs all the tablet apps on ur note! Thats pretty amazing coz u need not root it or do anything...for me it worked with the apps like...adobe idea, adobe photoshop touch and all other adobe apps and some other tablet apps..download these apps directly from 4shared..so cheers!!!
Those who are not happy with their battery pls try factory reset and battery pull off trick...it worked for me and it might work for u too my friend...

if you are entering deep sleep at all then you aren't being affected by the bug where you have to make sure your screen is on and unlocked before pulling it off the charger.
i suffered from this bug after updating to ics lpy, but since following the guide above (flight mode, power down etc.) i've had no issues.
let your phone completely discharge, then turn it back ona dn make sure it turns off again. then fully charge it. i found this increased the accuracy of the battery a little, when i did it it dropped from 10% to 1% in around 20 mins, then i was able to use the phone for almost half an hour on 1% so obviously my battery stats weren't quite right.
if you've done a factory reset, and you're sure the phone is entering deep sleep ok, just go through a couple of complete charge/discharge cycles and see if that improves things

Analyzing is tought on android.
Printscreens of kernel wakelock and partial are better.
Partial is mostly what exactly is keeping awake
Try some of the suggestions from the numerious threads, state them here whicj didnt work and describe usage a little more detail, that way we arent shooting in the dark

i still got this issue regarding multipdp and secril_fd_interface....maybe it caused by unstable network or the fast dormancy stuff...
so i went to nearest samsung center and buy a spare battery... now i have no concern about this...but still keep on eye with l2_hsic...the flight mode on and restart will solve this issue..

I was having battery drain issues myself. Got tired of checking CPU Spy and BBS etc. Worried about bricking and wiping so I...
I rooted the phone.
Installed SpeedMod Kernel 3-3 via mobile odin that didnt really solve it.
I installed Abyss kernel. Wiped everything because its supposed to be a safe wipe kernel.
Then installed Criskelo rom
Then installed SpeedMod Kernel 3-3 again and everything was great with battery life.
You have to reinstall apps and setup your phone basically but its well worth it in my opinion. Now my only battery drain is me always messing with my phone.

is it true..???

I format my Internal 16gb card
& did a factory reset & have done it twice
people tell me i was lucky but i dont think so & it worked for me
workd great now but slugish when im in contacts edit
Battery Life is Great No Issues
If you want can start System Power Saving that helps alot

I would stay away from telling people this is a safe thing to do in ICS, it's been proven many times it is not.
Maybe you have been lucky - so be thankful you're not using a paperweight...

@gayanaji - I use Criskelo's ROM and all the Samsung apps work fine. No probs here. Many of the custom ROMS are based on other Kernels that the Samsung apps do not work with. I am a bit new to this but I believe that is correct. Just make sure to use a Samsung app compatible Kernel if you decide to do it. Also another piece of advice before doing anything read a bunch to make sure you fully understand everything with regards to rooting, flashing custom ROMS etc.

[Q] [CM10.1.3] rapid battery draining with various kernels - help needed!

Hello everyone,
I switched my 16 months old 4x to CyanogenMod 10.1 about 2 months ago, and updated to 10.1.3 about a week after the release. About a week later, I had my first problems with rapid battery draining. I have switched kernels thrice, now running the most recent optimus prime for CM, and have tried fiddling with the values TricksterMOD provides, but I haven't found a way to get any decent battery life out of the device ever since. Last night, the battery drained 50% in about 12 hours of non-use (phone was left with display off in my jacket pocket, and that's not even the worst drain I witnessed in the last two weeks.
I'm running BetterBatteryStats to get a clue about the origin of this drainage, and can see that my device seems to me awake far too long when I'm not using it. At the moment, I'm looking at 44.6% awake, 55.4% Deep Sleep after 2.5 hours of not using the phone once (I was driving home from work half of the time). In "Kernel Wakelocks", I see "wlan_rx_wake" with 21:03 minutes on top, in "Partial wakelocks", the highest value is 20 seconds for "AlarmManager".
I have the usual suspects of communication/networking apps - Facebook (set to 2hr update), Google+, K-9 Mail, WhatsApp, plus AndroidWeather (set to 30min update) - and news apps which are allowed to send push messages. I use wifi, but no bluetooth. I never watch movies, play games or listen to music with my phone.
I have attached a BetterBatteryStats log from the 50% drain in 12 idle hours I mentioned. View attachment BetterBatteryStats-2013-10-17_092335401.txt
Can anybody give me any pointers as to what I going wrong here? I really would like to use my phone without having to plug in the power supply every few hours. If you need any additional information, I'll gladly try to provide it.

u cant flash kernels one after another. there are bugs this way. dont all kernels use the same names for files. leftover files will cause problems. do the whole procedure. go to recovery , format data, reboot to recovery and install new rom

You mean you cant flash Android roms one after another. You can freely flash kernels one after another without wiping anything, Its completely modular.

then explain his situation... he said he flashed kernels not roms. why does he have such a bad battery drain during night sleep ? in his report i didnt see he has any so "bad" app.... (just asking out of curiosity, its good to have knowledge generally)

Not sure about the battery drain, it could be caused by a kernel, but its not because hes flashed multiple kernels.
some background:
Android kernels are packaged into boot.img's (these .imgs can be placed in .zips with instructions on how the custom recovery should handle flashing it) Inside a boot.img you will find a zImage (kernel) and a initrd.img (This stands for initial ram disk, its simply a basic file system that the kernel mounts, containing mainly scripts that handle mounting all the necessary partitions etc, then handing control over to Android. )
The boot.img is stored in a emmc partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p*). When you press the power button, the bootloader is initialized , it then powers on necessary hardware devices, the bootloader than pulls the boot.img from its partition, extracts it and boots the zImage(kernel), which will start initializing less necessary hardware, but mainly mounts the initrd.img and runs the containing instructions.
Bootloader -> Kernel --------------------->
.........................Initrd.img-> ........Android
To move back on track, the zImage and initrd.img only operate within RAM, they only lie in emmc when they are achieved as a boot.img. When you shut your device down, nothing from the kernel persists in the next boot (maybe /proc/last_kmsg ), this is why you dont need to wipe anything on your device between kernel flashes.

Does the BatteryStats log give any indication as to why the phone is awake half of the time?

Dont know, but maybe O Prime is one of these kernel which hides the xmm baseband wakelock.... that would be the missing awake time in your log

Is there a different kernel you would recommend I should try out? I selected the OPrime because it claims to be focussing on stability and battery life instead of raw power.
Furthermore, what would the baseband wakelock tell us in terms of how the fast drain happens?

just to try it one more time: is there any way I can get decent battery life out of CM10.1.3 on my 4x? This is my profile from today, where I unplugged my phone from the charger around 7:30 a.m. and didn't use my phone thereafter until 5:30 p.m. where the phone was down to 38% already (stats taken around 8:30 p.m.) . The governor is set to conservative and the max frequency to 1.1 GHz, which already makes the UI a bit sluggish. The other settings are unchanged from above.
Secondly, if there really is no chance of improvement under CM10.1.3, which ROM (and kernel) would you suggest for my phone, so that I can at least get a full 24 hours of battery life when I'm not using my phone most of the time?

Format SD card and wipe everything before flashing new ROM. When I say everything I mean : catche - dalvik - format system - format sd card (sd card is 11gb internal memory of device and external sd card is your inserted sd card). Try latest liquid rom i have good battery life with its stock kernel.

Try rebooting again after first reboot installing kernel
I'm not sure why but when wiping dalvik and cache the phone has trouble going into sleep
Flash -> wipe cache/dalvik -> Reboot -> Reboot again

well, that was a bust. After spending the better part of a day formatting and installing over and over again, I'm now running CarbonRom [20131023] - and having the same battery problems as before.
I tried LiquidSmooth (2.23), but I never got it to work properly; after installing I always got "application someName was teriminated" every few seconds (while the Play Store app was redownloading and reinstalling my apps, but also when I tried to activate SwiftKey, which calls the settings app at one point, which abruptly quits before I can type in anything. I then tried
ParanoidAndroid (3.99, which I didn't like UI-wise)
and SlimBeam (1.9, where the Google apps I downloaded as stated would install fine, but then not appear for some reason - at that point I didn't spend much time trying to fix it, because I was already fed up with it all)
before finally installing CarbomRom, which worked fine. Thus, after downloading my apps, I tried out my battery again. I unplugged the phone, turned the display off, and went shopping for about two hours, touching the phone just once for a few seconds.
The result is again about 30% awake time during these two hours, losing 10% battery in the process (BetterBatteryStat included). That is pretty much unchanged from my experiences with CM10.1.
What am I repeatedly doing wrong that I don't get halfway decent battery runtime out of my 4x (which used to run fine battery-wise for a year when I used the original LG firmware (which had other issues, but could last 36 to 48 hours, depending on usage? As I don't see hordes of 4x owners throwing the device against the wall in frustration, I must do something other don't. But I haven't got the slightest clue what that might be.
I will try PACman (nightly 20131021) next, but if anyone has any pointers, please please help! I'm running out of ideas.
This was my procedure, by the way:
Reboot into CWM
Format system, cache, data, sd card
flashing ROM
Rebooting
after bootup reboot again into CWM
add the Google apps
reboot again
After bootup, reboot again into CWM
just to be sure, reset to factory defaults
reboot, connect with Wifi and Google and start redownloading the other apps

PACman is even worse. First off all, the UI is laggy as h*ll; sometimes, it takes more than two seconds for a button touch to be recognized.
That would be somewhat tolerable if the battery life was better. But in 2.5 hours of leaving the device lying idly on my table (display turned off), more than 50% of the time, the phone was active. BetterBatteryStats are again included as an attachment; perhaps someone can find out what the problem is with them. At least, this kernel doesn't hide the xmm_baseband wakelock, though I have no idea what that means whatsoever.
This is getting ridiculous - is there really no way to get the phone to last more than ten hours (doing nothing with it - when I use it even for occasional browsing/e-mail checks, it's way less than that) anymore? Why is no one else having problems on that scale?
Typing this post cost 3% of my battery. And I'm typing it on my computer, not on my phone.

When i watch your battery stats its your wifi did your try to install then wifi update of demetris? Try then samething with your wifi off i think it would increase slot of your battery

Thanks, for the info, I will investigate that, though I haven't found this "wifi update of demetris" on first Google try yet, just recommendations what to do with your WLAN router and PC settings.
But I my second-to-last try - where I was out shopping - the wlan_rx wakelock wasn't the problem, rather the xmm_baseband wakelock, where I still am clueless as to what that means at all. I fear that getting rid of the wlan wakelocks wouldn't help my general problems, just the problems I had at home last night in my last try.
Furthermore, if I can use the phone only by carefully switching off and on wlan manually whenever I leave the house, the phone will become pretty much useless to me. Yesterday alone, I forgot switching wifi back on twice. That way, either notifications would go through mobile data connection or not happen at all.
I will reflash my device again this morning - as the PACman UI lags are unbearable for me - and see what I can do about the wlan drain. I cannot reconfigure all the wifi networks I connect to, as some of them aren't mine to configure.

Look in the seccond post your will zee a long story but at then and of that story you see 3 zip files flash then then nvida 4.3+ broadcom driver update by cwm dunno if it solves your probleme for me its great

I don have any problems with liquid rom. Also I flash gaps imidiatly after flashing rom without reboot. Try flashing 4.2.2 android it is better for our prone then 4.3 builds.

I tried that earlier today, and the LiquidSmooth 2.9 (Android 4.2.2) installed fine by your instructions. But it didn't help at all with the battery usage. Phone is running on conservative governor limite to 1 GHz, and I even tried the Broadcom Wifi Update mentioned here earlier (otherwise, I'm on the LS standard kernel).
It all doesn't help, the BetterBatteryStats are still full of wlan wakelocks (even though I switched to static IP as someone mentioned that might help). Result: 10,8% battery drop per hour of leaving the phone with display off on the table.
Before I flash another ROM for the 14th time this weekend, I will collect some results with wifi turned off. Not that that would be a feasible option for me, but I want to get to the bottom of this.
