Just lime the title says... I'm looking disable the CDMA radio in my old Droid. I was thinking I could just load the Milestone radio but I thought I'd ask first.
Sent from hell.
Put the phone into airplane mode. Wifi will still work. However, I don't think bluetooth will.

What's up everyone.
I just got the G2 (nice) and so my 3 year old is getting his first smart phone. Issue is, I don't want him to actually have call capabilities... so in a nutshell I need to disable only the cell radio on my G1 but want to leave WiFi and BT on.
I've seen several posts on this subject but generally the answer is to set up one of the power management apps or yank the SIM card (already done.) I want to make 100% sure he doesn't end up accidentally calling 911 though and it seems to me the most thorough way to ensure he doesn't is to cut the radio altogether.
I just downgraded from CM6 back to 1.6 (DRC83) but will root/reinstall if needed.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.

What if you remove Dialer.apk? That would eliminate a possibility of calling anywhere
Let us know if it works, I've been dying to do that to my old G1 but never get around to actually doing it.
first post and epic fail for me!
FYI, I rooted and flashed multiple droid phones to GB in the past with no problem.
I followed the wrong instructions and flashed my Galaxy Tab 7 in with the rooted kernel (i have the wifi only version)
I am unable to get into download mode or boot up. When i hold down the power and volum controls, I get the LCD backlight turned on, but nothing else.
Same thing with the power button alone. Once i release the button, the light goes off.
It doesnt look like windows or Odin is even seeing the device when connected. I think I'm boned

It does sound like it is bricked, if you are interested I can un-brick this for you send me a PM if you are interested.
well, fortunately for me, i just got this today and called up circuit city saying "uh, i think my uh...ipad type thing... galaxy something is broken" lol
put on the old "i r dumb in tech" routine and am getting a new one shipping for next day service (for free)
Appreciate he offer though, however, I do have a question.
Does this work at all for wifi only? Or is this strictly GSM?
I thought the rooting files were optional and THAT part was GSM needed
nope...you can only flash roms that are made for Wifi only models...GSM roms will not work on Wifi only models due to differing infrastructure....furthermore wifi only model has downgraded CPU as well as GPU and Bluetooth

To answer your question if you got the wifi only version, then thats it.
GSM version are T-Mobile and AT&T and also has wifi as well and
CDMA version would be Verizon and Sprint and wifi.
There are several different reasons to root:
1 - Installing a different flavor / version of Android
2 - Enabling cellular phone dialing
3 - etc, etc
Just be carefull when you root

yeah, i screwed up.
I dont mind the weaker cpu and junk as it is a gift for my brother (he is the best man at my wedding), but I wanted to root, get rid of bloatware and throw on GB (gb is rockin on my droid), then throw on launcherpro and some other things. You know, but this nice and smooth and junk.
But I killed it. Wont happen with the next one as it doesnt seem like there is any type of gm rom for the wifi only model
Just upgraded my phone and Droid still works, are there any ROMs developed that don't have the radio? I want to be able to use WiFi and Bluetooth, but I don't want it draining the battery looking for cell service that doesn't exist.
Or is there an app or something I can use to disable checking?
Thanks.
I've been using Airplane mode. Still able to use wifi. Bluetooth starts up, haven't tried pairing with anything yet, tho.
Running both Steel Droid and MIUI.

I would also be interested in anything else out there! Currently running Gingerbread 2.3.7 and would like to hand this thing down to the kid to play games on. Therefore, no cell radio (only WiFi), no BT, etc... I know Airplane mode would probably work OK, but, I'd prefer just to not load them to begin with.
Is there a stripped won ROM out there that would suffice? Hate to see this thing sit on a shelf once my Nexus comes in.
Thanks!
I did the same for my kids. The Droid lasted about 3 weeks before the touch screen failed.
I would not let a little kid touch my phone o.0
Hello all,
I have an old Samsung Captivate laying around that I have turned into a media center remote control. There is no SIM card in the device and there likely never will be in the future. I have loaded Slim ICS (gotta love ICS!) on it and it runs great, but what I would like to do is COMPLETELY disable the cellular radio. I have no need for it and I know that having the radio active, even if it is not connected to an AT&T network, is still draining battery slightly. I want to know if there is some modem out there that I can flash that will be able to shut the cellular radio off totally, or at least give me the option to turn it off. I know this may sound dumb, but please bear with me. I basically just want to eliminate unnecessary hardware. I would also like a way to physically disable GPS if possible, but that's another topic for another day.
Thanks in advance to anyone who even takes the time to read this thread

You can use airplane mode.
Or can't you just delete the modem?

Here is a ROM that was the same idea.

A guy on the last page says he just uses TiBu to freeze all the MMS and Phone stuff in Sliim ICS.
Just deleting modem will probably disable the wifi. That rom listed above had the basic idea. You could just use airplane mode and have working wifi.
I just upgraded to the One M8 and due to my phone being pretty beat up I am not going to be re-selling it. I am toying with the idea of letting my 6yr old have it solely for playing games etc. Is there a way to turn off the cell radios so that he can't turn them back on? Maybe a rom that breaks the cell or something? Any help would be appreciated. If this has already been answered i attempted to search and my skills have failed to probue an answer.
