thecubed's restore to GB from ICS - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Quick question to the vivid folks, does thecubed's restore work? (the one from ICS to GB). I was reading through some of the questions and it seems like some people had trouble working it out. Has anyone had success with it? I dont want to end up like the guy who had his radios deleted...

I can't directly answer your question. If you are stock and un-rooted the update through ATT works really well. I had no issues whatsoever with the update..
My issue with ICS right now is there no voice dialer when using bluetooth. Other than that it is really fluid and works well.

im on the pre rooted ics and i dont really like it. I'm going back to GB.

never used thecubed's method, but i have installed holiraider(gb) rom after ive installed pgs rumfloat(ics) with no problems
just flashed the boot.img through fasboot then flashed the rom zip on cwm
and everything worked fine
hope this helps

^didnt know you could do that. hmm. I might just do that...

I can only assume that when you say "that guy" you mean me, but that method works, but it won't downgrade your radio back to the gb radio. what you thought was deleted radios was a result of swapping out RIL files so the rom didn't know what show in the info because the files are different and can't be swapped out like on other htc phones such as the inspire 4g. and the reason i was playing around with that is because i believe it's what causes people hearing their echo back when i talk to them while i'm on speakerphone.
with that being said, good luck to you. let me know if you have similar issues otherwise ur stuck on ics

I can vouch for this as well. I flashed back and forth between ICS and GB ROMS. Just fastboot flash the boot image and do not try to reflash any HBOOT to go back to GB or you will likely brick your Vivid.

I used thecubeds' GB restore 2x: #1 went from ICS RUU.52 to GB then did the OTA to .56 and #2 my wifes phone got an error during the .56 OTA install. I just pulled the battery and put in my EXT SD with the PH file and went back to GB then did the OTA again with success. It's pretty simple and worked perfectly both times. Glad I have that file. Thanks thecubed!

From Froyo back to a Custom Rom?

I searched around quit a bit and couldn't find this info.
If you go to one of the Froyos, with/without radio, is it possible to just flash it back with another custom Rom over that and all is good?
Just wondering if there are any gotchas like if you put the radio update on etc...
Thanks
how about using search!!!!

One person in that thread claimed, with an unlocked bootloader, that he just put the old radio and custom rom on the card, and did the usual wipe and flash and it worked fine.
Others that posted were all over the place, including some convoluted approach that pretty much wiped everything on the device and SD card to get it back to stock..which I don't care about stock. I just want to be able to go back from 2.2 to my Modaco R21 if necessary without any gotchas.
Yes you can just flash any ROM like you normally would. I've done it a few times now in the last few days. I did the old radio and all.

Thanks.
So I got the original radio, plus my R21 and intersectR kenerl setup I know is good.
Looks like you just flash the radio, then the Rom and kernel and setup again...
Thanks for the reply.

Quick information needed

I'm waiting for a replacement on my bricked Vibrant and I am running my G1 right now. I figured I would update the rom since I'm going to be using it for a little while. Now I am running CM 4.2 and the last time I flashed this on here I had like 20 steps to do and needed a pc. Now with the use of clockwork recovery and everything else available I'm assuming I can get away with flashing away from home and the use of a pc. I notice some newer roms with custom kernals available which is what I'm aiming for but I am not sure if I should grab the latest available CM or if other devs roms are more updated. Will I need anything else other than CWR since I'm already rooted? What are the steps I need to take to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance

you should be able to just get cm 6.1 and its gapps then do a full wipe of your phone and then flash cm6.1 then the gapps and you should be set from there
What's gapps? Do I use cwr for wipe and flash?

I see some roms have "requirements" as that frozo rom has requirements for SPL, radio and ext4 partion. I'm pretty sure all this is out dated on this unit and I don't think I'm on ext4 partion I don't remember converting any data when I flashed cm 4.2

[Q] non-noob noob needing some help lol

ok, so im not a total noob...or at least i dont consider myself one lol im "hip" to the whole rooting/flashing/modding thing (OG, eris, dinc, evo, & now...lg revo) but this is my first LG/4g device ive encountered n ive now come to a point where i must ask for guidance lol
ok, so when i got my revo from my roommate, it already had the gb update, so i used: [One Click]Updated!!! LG Revo All in One Pkg for Root, CWM 5.0.2.7, and Unroot - to downgrade n root, then "flashed" the de-crapified (i think thats the name) rom. shortly realized i hate froyo, used ^above said method to unroot n return to stock i hopes to update back to gb, then work from there. upon attempting to do the gb update via verizon, i get the "update failed or incomplete" message. oh, n lastnight, i flashed RevoltRom1.5...
now, my question is; what am i/have i done/doing wrong?
...and/or what do i need to do to be able to have gb & root?
...or if nothing else, how can i return to bare stock? with or w/o gb...idc, cuz by this point, im prob selling it lol
(if it helps...) my phones specs:
-android: 2.2.2
-kern: 2.6.32.9-pref [email protected] #1
-build: RevoltRom1.5
-SW: vs910zv6

Just to elaborate a little what happens is when flashing a froyo ROM over gingerbread the radio causes issues including not being able to connect to mobile network I'm not sure about wifi I never tried also you will get bootloops kicking you into cwm recovery and it's the same for the opposite gingerbread to froyo.. the easiest way to get out of that bootloop is to flash a backup of the Android version you were on before you tried to put that ROM on your phone... if you were on gingerbread flash a gingerbread backup if you were on froyo flash a froyo backup but this phone does not like to jump Android software versions via a custom ROM. Of course if you find yourself without a backup the .tot files will fix your phone and the going from inner Android version to another via flashing a custom ROM has been tested throughly and has a 0% success rate. It will flash and should boot but that's about it.

Tried going from 2.2 Andrometa3 to ICS ROM 4.0.3. Houston we have a problem.

I used AdamOutler 's guide to root and put a custom ROM on Captivate 2.2 found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012769
And everything went swiftly. AT THIS POINT, I MADE A NANDROID BACKUP
I then wanted to step up to an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM, which was the main purpose of my rooting in the first place. So, I downloaded the ROM found in this forum, as it is the most popular amongst the forums, so to seem. I found it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363760
Well I downloaded the ROM straight from my phone on the browser, then put it on the Root of my internal memory.
I booted into recovery, Factory Reset/Wipe Cache Partition/Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Went to install .zip from SD card, then clicked on install the ICS ROM.
Began to seem as if it was updating, then the phone shut off, started bootlooping.
No big deal I thought, just boot into recovery, right? I booted into recovery. It went from the Red CWM that i had seen before, to a Blue one.
I selected my nandroid backup, and it gave me all sorts of errors.
Got to the point where CWM was acting as if it could even find where it was supposed to work from?
Now I have the Phone>!<Computer on the black screen when I try to turn on.
Anyone else ever had this problem, or could someone tell me what went wrong? Not in a huge rush as this is just my development phone, but do I need to go ahead and use the Odin3 One Click to do a full complete restore or is there any way of saving what I had?
Thanks guys, God Bless.
LOL OOPS thought i was in the dev section.... ignore..help below.

Different kernels have different colour recoveries. kernels change with rom.
Different CWM version recoveries are incompatible.
Almost anyone that has flashed a samsung galaxy phone has seen that screen, and it is correctly written " Phone /!\ PC " (you can choose to underline the /!\ if you want to be fancy). it is called the "soft brick screen" hint hint.. go search.
yes
yes. restore with same kernel you used to back it up.

Very good responce...however after odin3 one clicking back to stock 2.1 eclair, I lost my clockwork mod folder that was on the internal SD, of course. Rookie mistake, I should've definately copied it on to the external SD card. Thanks for informing me of proper terminology. Also, after downloading rom manager and flashing, booting recovery, I can only access cwm through the rom manager, the three button fix doesn't work.
Why was this moved? I posted in general..
because you have a question/problem
rom manager is only used with 2.1 (for captivate). doesnt work on 2.2 or 2.3.X or 4.0.X
in all newer versions of android we "bake" cwm into the custom kernels we package into the custom roms. so there is no stock recovery and you dont need the update.zip.
dunno why you would flash all the way back to 2.1... EWWW.
in the dev section there is a sticky called odin master collection. use a newer stock rom. the master collection also has stocks versions, pre-packcaged with a custom cwm kernel so you can skip a step of getting it after going back to stock.
Do we know why this happened in the first place? Incompatible kernel? Is there a guide somewhere for moving from GB to ICS?

I thought you had to have GB bootloaders before you flashed any ICS roms ? I know I've read that ,then again I've read 10,000 threats and sometimes it becomes mind numbing.
Do you not have to flash back to 2.1 after having these problems? Right now my phone is at the soft brick screen, no button combo working. Not recognized by the computer either. I'm heading out to radio shack and make a USB jig in a bit. I'd love to just flash straight up to a gingerbread ROM if I can possibly get this thing in download mode. Anybody help a brotha out!
Edit: the sim is not activated, I just run it off Wi-Fi because big red is my carrier. This is my development phone. So I can't just KIES update to whatever the newest is.

Any firmware should work, no need to go all the way to eclair...just flash gingerbread.
Don't think its been mentioned yet but when going from 2.2 to ICS, you have to flash the rom twice to get out of the bootloops. Sounds like you were at that point but when you flashed your nandroid instead of the ICS rom again, your phone must not have liked it.

Not all ICS ROM's require GB bootloaders. I ran THS, and am now on vibranturk's AOKP and I came straight from 2.1
I think the issue was you're supposed to flash them twice. Well that fixed it for me. I dkbhave the gingerbread boot loaders now though
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
I went from bone stock Froyo 2.2 straight to THS ICS with no problems whatsoever. So some ICS Roms doesn't need GB bootloaders.

I'm on the same situation as the original poster: I'm on andromeda3 and now I want to upgrade to ICS. Right now my captivate has cwm 2.5.1.2 can I flash any ICS mod from there or do I need to do something else?
See this.... TRusselo's "Guide..." that is a Stickied Thread in the Q & A Forum.
I believe u will need the Gingerbread Bootloaders...

[Q] No Recovery?

hey everyone i found some threads about this ( well similar but nothing like it) i just got my vivid and had to root it and get a new rom so i could overclock it and get all the goodies. i came from the inspire and before that htc winmo phones. ive always rooted and flashed roms so im no noob but im so stumped here. i rooted it and everything went fine ( even though i felt it was a little more difficult than rooting my inspire) then i downloaded a rom and tried to flash the same way ive always done it with my inspire and my GFs samsung fascinate and her thunderbolt and it successfully flashes then it bootloops. so i tired another rom. same thing. so i reverted back to the stock att rom. then out of nowhere i cant get to recovery. through hboot or anything. i then installed rom manger and installed cwm. still nothing i cant get to that either. so i cant flash roms and cant get to recovery. i really dont know whats going on. can anybody shed some light on the situation? thanks in advance.
You can flash recovery ...just see the super guide thread
