[Q] GinderDX v023b & busybox 1.19.4 - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I've read in the gdx thread that they reverted the busybox to 1.15 to avoid soft bricks in stock kernel.
The question is if after i've installed v023b, i could update busybox or it would damage (soft brick) my phone still ?
The problem with busybox 1.15 is that it don't have 'lsusb', which i need to find my wireless keyboard name.
Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately you can't update busybox if you use stock kernel. GDX is using old Hackdroid files system, which we're trying to update. If you want newes busybox consider using custom kernel or wait for future releases.

thanks man!!
appreciate the quick answer! xD

[Q] CIFS support in gingerbread kernel?

Hi guys, today tried access my pc shares by sgs, and it looks like my current kernel doesnt have cifs module (cf 3.2).
My question, is there any kernel for jvh with cifs support available? or can I add cifs module to current kernel, if yes how?

Try this kernel module: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12997697&postcount=123 (also linked in one of the first posts in chainfire's thread, IIRC).
thanks. it worked.
slow-work.ko + cifs.ko for JVZ (2.3.6)?
about five days ago, i flashed stock JVZ firmware to my SGS. so far, my experience has been excellent: smooooth(!!!), quicker browser, no battery drain, stable.
rooted it with CF root 4.3, works fine.
i just need new CIFS kernel modules - anyone know where to get compatible slow-work.ko and cifs.ko?
i am aware of this post/thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761414. they used to work on my previous JVP firmware, but none of the modules shown there can be loaded in JVZ. insmod slow-work.ko always returns "exec format error".
or, if anyone cares to explain to a non-developer (but a power-user) how to compile them myself...in plain ENGLISH please ;-)...i'll make some and post them here. sorry, all the threads i have found here so far regarding self-compiling kernel modules assume reasonable pre-requisite knowledge, which i dont have... :-(
thanks in advance!
Do you have any progress with the issue, damazta? I have same problem: slow-work.ko + cifs.ko for XWJVZ (2.3.6) on SGS. No compiled modules for the params.
thanks already.
Yes there is. I am using alliance rom's base release jw6 right now.
It is very close to stock samsung FW, runs super smooth, fast and stable AND includes a pre-compiled cifs.ko module, which works like a charm!
Highly recommended. Great forum over there with idiot-proof installation instructions. Go for it!

What firmware do you have?
If gingerbread you can flash the voodoo kernal
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975349
This will give you clockwork and will give you an ext4 lagfix
Hopefully Done It Now
I've done it (finally i think),
my kernel version says:
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #Dark_Core_1.0
Build number is: Darky's v9.5.xwjs8
But as i switch the phone on it come up with Darky's v9.4 ?????
Hopefully i will get used to this, if you can could you please let me know if all the info above is right and whats the best rom for 2.2.1?????
Cheers Madant2011.
looks like you installed Darkys rom instead of what you wanted hehe....
rom
when i had rom manager i just downloaded what ever darky's rom that was on there.lol.
Just woundering what is the recomended rom for sgs 2.2.1 ?????
Cheers madant2011
The boot animation for darkys 9.5 does display 9.4 so don't worry about that. The darkys Rom is very good but you could upgrade your kernel to dark core 1.4 or use speedmod k13e kernel
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
kernel
Just wondering how do i update the kernel to 1.4, i already have voodoo speed mod (I Think).
download it from the darky rom site and if you get the cwm version, just flash it with your recovery
also visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756 for information on speedmod kernel, that is what i used when on 2.2.1, very fast and good batt life
Thanks
Thanks for all your help. just reading the link and it says it wont work because i used the one click root (I think).
Cheers madant2011

BTW I'm now running GingerXperia v10 with stock kernel.I hope somebody can explaine and help me.Cause I like Chainfire3D.It help me to run game smoother.

[Q] Bricked w8! :( Reason - v6 supercharger or busybox installer??

i was using w8 with PrimeHD 6.0 on stock kernel , installer busybox new version through buzybox installer , install v6 supercharger and ended up bricking my phone... now who out of the two is responsible n please help me in installing v6 supercharger i really wanna experience it
What version of busybox did you install? Because if you installed the latest version that is what caused the brick. It has been mentioned in the supercharger thread that it is not compatible with newer version of busybox. So you have to have an older version of busybox( I don't remember which one probably 1.18 or below) and then install supercharger script.

If your busybox is below v1.16.2 you should use v8 supercharger which can be found in the same thread where you find v6 supercharger..it should work for you..but I have used v6 supercharger for several months when I was on GDX v22- even on stock kernel which have busybox v1.15.3 and worked like charm..but don't try the kickass kernelizer script on that version of busybox which will brick your phone for sure..but of course it may have a different result on yours but as I say "It worth to try"..but as I suggest try v8 Supercharger script for a safer result..

MiniCm7/Minicm9 supercharger work perfectly No Softbrick.
zeppelinrox has mention that if you phone doesnt want boot,
Pull you battery out, on again.
Atleast 3 times. If it was still the same problem.
Then IDK. LOL.

This was probably a wrong section to post. I opened a new thread at Q&A about Unbricking Teclast P85 after installing busybox 1.19

[Q] Bootloop after busybox install.

Hi.
I have an xperia x8, with gingerdx 028, stock kernel.
Today I try to flash a newer busybox to it, cause the superuser not works properly (sometimes didn't ask for permissions).
I've installed one from the market, after that I stuck at bootloop.
No CWM recovery, only adb, can't boot to recovery with adb reboot recovery, so I don't have root permissions.
My question is, that is it possible, to change the busybox, without recovery and root?
ONLY ADB WORKS!!
Thank you so much!

Use Sony PCC and Reflash stock rom using 'repair your phone' option. Do not install the busybox from market agan. It's known to unroot and give bootloops on x8/x10/w8. download x8toolbox.final from here and root. everything should be fine from them on.

HIT THANKS IF I HELPED!!!
You aren't suppose to update busybox on your own..
Also , I don't think it was a busybox problem causing the bug..
Next time , simply do a full-wipe and reflash your ROM.
You shouldn't touch busybox on stock kernel because it will brick the phone.

I have the same problem with Busybox bricking my phone. I followed this tutorial to install SuperCharger and when I install BusyBox (1.19.4) and reboot, my phone gets bricked.
EDIT:
I have GingerDX v30 and stock kernel.
It seems that Busybox above v1.15.3 bricks the phone when you have stock kernel.

You cant update busybox while you are on a custom rom.
use the busybox zip provided in the supercharger thread
Lots of missinformation about updating BusyBox while on stock kernel.

The culprit is not the kernel, but the ROM(s). As I said elsewhere, there's at least one ROM for stock kernel in which updating BusyBox brings no problems: MiniCM6. And, of course, any ROMs using it as base, such as AtiFroyo.

No. It will still cause a bootloop in GingerDX.
really? AtiFroyo did not get bricked?
Because FroyoPro did.

Anyways: STOCK rom does not brick by updating busybox as well....

Busybox NEWER than version 1.15.3 (the version we ship by default with the ROM) does NOT work on Stock Kernel. Simple as that.
Contrary to what you said the culprit is kernel and not rom.
On Alfs you'll be updated to Busybox 1.19.4 once you install the Alfs AddOn, but as said above there's no way to update on Stock kernel - it will simply not work and brick the boot of the ROM.
Believe me, we tried everything.

this is what B.Jay had to say. So now if you know more than B.Jay then tell the OP that there is no problem in updating busybox or else donot pass on wrong info
@CnC-ROCK - Have you read what prezident36 wrote? He's on GingerDX v028 on stock kernel. The zip from the Supercharger thread won't work.
Also, B.Jay is wrong in this particular case. And as elderduke has pointed out, you can update the stock ROM on stock kernel without problems, hence the problem does not lie with the kernel.

Don't quote me on this one, but I'm guessing that the problem stems from the hackdroid base. Both FroyoBread and GingerDX use it... as well as kuyaDROID. And I wouldn't be surprised if GingerCruzt used it also, but I don't remember trying to update BusyBox in it.

Well, I believe you. You probably can't update BusyBox through a market app, I haven't it tried it tho. But you most definitively can using the zip file from the Supercharger thread. As long as you meet the requirements.
