[Q] Going from aokp to cm9 latest nightly - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I first got my touchpad the other day the first ROM I put on it was aokp. I now want to put the latest cm9 nightly on it but think I'm missing something in the procedure. From cwm i did factory data reset, wiped cache, data, system and dalvic then installed ROM then gapps. Booted to moboot and there is a listing for both aokp and cm9 and neither will load, just goes straight back to moboot. What am I doing wrong here?

Try using acme installer 2

Acme installer 2 or acme uninstaller and then start from scratch? Is there something I did wrong or should have done differently? I assumed what I did would've wiped out aokp and installed cm9 over it.

There is a zip file you can flash in clockworkmod available in the classicnerd.net icsbeta feed called tga_removal or something. I've been using that when ROM jumping between installs along with clearing user data, cache and dalvik. It pretty much removes everything except moboot I think and gives you a clean partition to play with.

[Q] CM7 Nightly Won't Boot

Hey Guys,
I'm having trouble with my NC and CM7. I decided to upgrade from the most recent stable version cm7 to the most recent nightly (149 I believe) I am installing to emmc, and using the clockwork bootable SD to do the install. I have wiped the system, data, cache then installed cm7 then Gapps. I go to reboot, and pull the SD it will get to the cyanogen mod boot screen and says loading... under the cyanogen logo. I figured first time it was booting it would take a while, after 15+ minutes of the same screen I realized its not going to work, so I tried an earlier nightly (146) and same story.. Is there something I'm doing wrong that would be different from how I installed stable to how I install a nightly? I can't see how it would be any different, but I could be wrong.. thanks in advance everyone!
Did you try to power it off, then power it up again?
Sometimes after a install it does not complete the first reboot.
If you just do the upgrade, then why you wipe /system and /data?
Wipe /cache is enough.
You know if you wipe /system & /data, then you lost everything and you have to redo the whole thing, right?
Not sure why you went through all that when you can just update through ROM Manager. In any event, did you wipe the Davlik cache?
As a data point, I installed n149+gapps this morning, wiped Dalvik only, all via Rom manager, and I'm running just fine.

[Q] SD Card Removed???

Ok, so I went from Classicnerd to CM9 Alpha 2 to the CM9 Unofficial Nightlies and I am having an issue with the latest update. It seems that when I upgrade to either the CM9 Official Nightly or the most recent Unofficial Nightly, I am getting an SD Card Removed error. It seems to be linked to the upgrade from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4. All the apps that have been moved to my SD Card partition are not accessible. Anyone know why? I haven't wiped completely, because I am happy on 4.0.3, but I just wanted to see if there is an answer for this?

It sounds like something got corrupted. If you have a good backup, restore it, then wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache and install the latest nightly. That should do it. If you don't have a good backup, try wipe delete factory reset, wipe dalvik cache and install the latest nightly. You'll have to restore your data, but that's what you get for not having a nandroid.........
Good luck.
Edit : Rereading your post, I think you'll have to do a clean install of cm9. ClassicNerd uses different source. If you have a good backup, you can try advanced restore > restore data, or Titanium.
Yes, he's right.
When going from one release to the next in the same style of series (Alpha2 => Nightlies => more nightlies), you can get away with just a wipe of the /cache and the Dalvik cache. If you go from CN => Nightlies or Nightlies => CM, or any other combo that isn't the same series, you are best set to do a full backup, then a full wipe and start fresh. You can try an Advanced Restore, but be aware it might not work.
I too am having the same problem... it first occurred with the upgrade to 4.0.4. I wiped every thing restored cm9 backup and wen I'm instcalling apps and moving them to sdcard after about five apps my sdcard is removed and will not mount. So I reverted to cm7 (got to have headphone jack) and after moving some apps the samething occured again...

Since we are talking about wiping, I would just like to chime in and ask how that is done on the TouchPad. The only other Android device I have ever owned is my Droid X2 that I use now. And when I want to wipe that, Motorola has a method of doing it to where it sets you back to stock factory settings with a file they provide. Since the TouchPad isn't an official Android device and all, what do you use to wipe it and start over? A link to a thread that explains it would be helpful. I'm sure there is one. I will look.
for an answer to the OP i found this on rootzwiki....dunno if ok to post link but ima do it anyways...remove if frowned upon:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13277-cm7-fixes-for-sdcard-issues/
to fix my sdcard issues i AMCEUninstalled android and did a clean install of the latest moboot, gapps, clockworkmod, and cm9 A2. As for fixing the sdcard issue it also fixed alot of other things....no more Google maps constantly opening and wat not....much more stable.

Use ClockworkMod to wipe data/factory reset

[Q] How do i flash a custom rom?

I have been searching around and can't find out how exactly I should go about flashing a custom ROM on the Hero. Yes, before anyone says it, I am a noob at this, and this will be my first time flashing a ROM(if i could ever figure it out). I have the latest stable version of CyanogenMod 7, which i believe is 7.1.0, and the GApps package to go along with it. Both are on the root of my SD card. I rooted with Z4root, downloaded ROM Manager, and chose the setting to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery. Should I flash using ROM Manager, or should I boot into CWM Recovery and flash from there? If possible, does anyone have a video that could help me along with this? The video posted in the video thread for this device is down. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks!
Boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery and flash from there.
BTW, I'm running the latest release candidate for 7.2. Works perfectly for me.
I ended up finding a video on how to flash through CWM. I also later downloaded one of the CM 7.2 RCs, believe RC2. Now my next question is, do I need to wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache if I update to a newer version of CM, like a newer RC of 7.2 or one of the early beta versions of CM9?

Wipe cache etc. when flashing a later version of CM7 over an earlier version. Do a wipe data/factory reset when flashing CM7 over CM9.
It has always been a safe route whenever you flash a new rom to just wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik.
Yes.

I would do a completely clean install. Run acmeuninstaller, then in webos, run 'remove android'. I f you don't have it, download it from preware. If you don't have preware, install it using WOSQI. Then install cm10 using acmeinstaller3. As long as you're at it might as well upgrade cwm and moboot. They'll install with acmeinstaller3. Here's the link for recovery :http://goo.im/devs/jcsullins/cmtouchpad/recovery
Use the 12/15 version. Here's the link for acmeuninstaller and acmeinstaller3. http://goo.im/devs/jcsullins/cmtouchpad/tools
Here's the link for the gapps: http://goo.im/gapps
Use the 4/29 gapps for cm9 and the 10/11 for cm10.
There are several good how to's here and over at the webos nation forum. Just follow one and you'll be fine.
add one more thing::
backup the cm9 you have now.. my daily is cm9.
AFAIK, it will be complete when dorregaray is satisfied w/ his gyroscope..which i dont really care about acuz i dont play any of those games.
who knows when its fixed, i might play something tho.
i do have a current working cm10 installation backedup ..
there are couple things i want to see fixed before i make cm10 my daily..
I assume you can restore app data by backing up to titanium backup. I use it with my phone when changing ROMs.

I just installed CM9 using acmeinstaller 3 and moboot 0.3.5 and new cwm. Do I still need to do a clean install as described above if I want to try schizoid?
Can I just do a full erase data, /cache, and Dalvik Cache partitions.... and install schizoid zip via cwm?
This is pretty comprehensive: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/31548-ho...with-sound-camera-microphone-updated-1302013/
After this, just use CWM to flash new rom.

I would recommend you to use CWM6 and moboot 0.3.8 at the very least. If you just want to check out the speed of cm10 for a little while, I would suggest using Oat's one off CM10 Christmas gift. I was mixing CM9/10 CWM5/6 boot.5/.8 and I had to webOS doctor it eventually. So be careful
Oats ROM is good because it could work even over a ACME2 instance

[Q] cm10.1 Nightlies not booting, kinda

I'm want get the current cm10.1 nightlies to run on my n7000. I'm using cm-10.1-20130511-NIGHTLY-n7000.zip with 20130301 gapps package but the furthest I can get is the welcome screen. Selecting my language will freeze the phone. I've tried re-installing wipe cache, wipe data etc.. even retried to whole install a few times but nothing works. Any ideas? Sucks cos I just finished a mod on my p7510 to display now playing in status bar and want to port it over.
that is an unclean install,
on cm kernel on its recovery format system, data, preload cache an dalvik and reinstall. also make sure you have latest gapps for that version

Heres what I'm doing:
Flash abyss kernell (I have emmc bug and have had to recover from it twice now),
factory reset,
Flash cm10.1 in order to install kernel and recovery a reboot recovery,
Now in cyanogen mod recovery:
wipe cache,
wipe dalvik cache,
wipe system
wipe date,
wipe preload,
re-install cm10.1
install gapps 20130301 (the latest gapps)
what can be going wrong?
thats pretty thorought. I would recommend not abys but cm kernel instead.
tried it with both
Then I dont know. What gapps version are you flashing?
I havent read it being an issue with latest cm, maybe bad download? md5 matches download?
Also try on stock gb rom (for your phones csc), if none of above, if with emmc brick check app some sectors are damaged. Thats what I would do. If damaged, or still weird lags check warranty.
Using the 201301 gapps from goo.im. Downloaded a few times now same issue, its probably my phone as partitions are a little strange from emmc recovery.
