Can't send text - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I can receive texts and make calls fine, but I can't send any texts.
I tried toggling data connection on and off, but that's a no-go.
Any suggestions?

Hi, I also had the same problem when I first inserted my SIM into HD7. It used to receive messages. Make & receive calls but not able to send messages.
HD7 actually tries to get message center number from SIM.
When I inserted the same SIM in Nokia E72, I figured out there are 2 center nos.
1. Message Center No.
2. SIM Center No.
HD7 took the SIM center No. & was not able to send messages. I changed it to Message Center No. and voila... I could send messages easily.
You have to go to Messaging --> Settings & check which number it had accepted. Either you can try to insert into any nokia phone & see another number too or else you can talk to customer care to get your message center no & change the no. in the SMS Center No. in your HD7 --> Messaging --> Settings.
I am sure your problem will be resolved.

@badboy70; Is your problem resolved after the given solution?

I'm sorry for the late reply, I haven't tested it because it was a friend who tried to use my phone, because he wanted to use WP7 for a week to decide if he was going to buy a Lumia or not.
He's changing to the same mobile service provider as me when he buys the Lumia so it should work fine.
I'll see if I can try it out anyway.
(And even not being able to text, he's thoroughly conviced about WP and will buy a Lumia)

Cant Send text Messages

I was trying to fix something on my connection settings and I guess I moved one of the settings by accident now I can only receive text messages and not send them. Can anyone tell me what I might have done wrong and how I can go about fixing it. Would a Hard reset fix the problem?
just to make sure.......are you sure its a settings problem and not a problem with you operator?
I didn't want to call them saying they messed up my text settings when they might not have, plus I don't know if my connection settings are any different from a standard Tilt since I put different software on it. Should I give them a call any way?
the only setting that i know of for text messaging is the center number which i think is stored on your sim. try popping your sim into another phone and see if the problem is still there
I put the sim card in another cell and was able to send and receive a text.

I received this message once when sending an SMS from an area where texting worked but voice/data did not. In my case, all I had to do was tap "Tap here to retry", and it worked.
Just to eliminate any 3G issues, you may want to force the phone onto Edge and try again.
I get this sometimes, usually right when I'm getting a message from someone else. I guess it's kind of a collision thing.
Anyway, just tapping "click here to retry" works but sometimes it does take three or four times to go through.
Sorry this isn't more help.

do you have your messages on threaded mode or normal mode
if its on normal (hacked by registry or other tools) this could be the problem because i experienced the same issue when i shifted (temp) to wm6.1
best wishes,

Definitely a well written post (I'll be taking que's from that from now)! Seems my problem is low signal strength, incoming sms's jammed (seriously, how stupid is that??), *and* wm6.1 I'm about to switch over to a 6.5 device, so we'll see if 6.5 is any better than 6.1.
*edit*
I have noticed that the whole messaging system locks up sometimes if I can't send out an sms, and a reboot will fix it with a rush of incoming messages that should have happened when i was trying to send out one. Is this common?

Unlocked Tilt cannot send SMS

Greetings,
I purchased an unlocked 8925/Tilt over the weekend and had great success using it immediately on the TMobile network. This morning I noticed my SMS messages would not send. I could receive messages, but got the dreaded "Your text message cannot be sent." dialog.
I've checked the SMS Service Center number (via Settings / Phone / Services / Get Settings) and from what I can find via google it appears to be right.
I last used the SMS yesterday about 7 PM and it was fine. This morning at 7 am it gave me this message and has continued for the last 4 hours.
Anyone have any thoughts??
Thanks!
UPDATE: As it turns out the phone WILL send the SMS messages, but only when I have connected to a voice call.
Did you try a soft reset?
SMS not sending
Thanks for the reply.
I should have stated... I have performed a soft reset as well as a hard reset. I have verified the SMS Service Center number is correct as well.
Anyone else ever run into this?
Here's a stupid question, sorry if it offends: Have you tried multiple recipient numbers, i.e. perhaps the one that is failing is due to the number you're sending to, not your device?
cannot send SMS
Not a stupid question. I've tried numbers on different carriers with no luck.
I've called TMobile, and they want to me to try my Sim in another phone which I will have to try later this evening.
Just thought it was strange that it worked fine, I went to bed, and it quit working. Perhaps the Sim card went bad. I've had it a long time.
Tilt cannot send SMS away from home area
After days of testing, hard resetting and scanning this board I appear to have come up with the solution.
I installed "Advanced Config", adding a button to the Comm Manager for 3G and disabling 3G. Not an issue for me as 3G isn't available on TMobile in my area.
If I continue to have trouble I will try replacing the phonesettings.dll and changing the phone band as mentioned in this thread.

HELPPPP
I've been having a similar issue for the past 4 days. I'm using dutty's 6.1 rom. I used to be able to send/receive sms and mms messages. One day, mms messages wouldn't work anymore so I did the auto connection setup in the settings panel and it corrected the mms problem. However, sms messages can't be sent out anymore. I always get the message "Your text cannot be sent." I can receive sms messages but cannot send them out. I've tried searching the forums and it seems like others are in the same boat. There is a thread stating that I should turn off 3g in my comm manager, but it is already disabled. I've tried sending the text message with 3g on and off. It doesn't work no matter what. I've also trying to setting the band of the phone for gsm 1800 like another thread had instructed, but that doesn't work either. It isn't a sim card problem because I can put it into another phone and send and receive them just fine.
Some one help me, please!
anyone have ideas?
figured it out. changed the setting back to gsm mode. i must've changed it to gprs somehow.

[Q] Can't send text messages

I have my W8 installed MiniCM7 2.1.6 and nAa kernel-08, everything seems fine, but I can't send text messages.
I can receive messages, but get an error when sending.
Can anyone help?
Bump for answers.
It happened to me once
- Turn off the phone
- Remove yout Sim card
- Put another Sim card of the same company
- Turn on the phone
- Try to send a message
- Turn off and put your Sim in yout phone.
Thats it!!
I tried several SIMs, some could send but some couldn't.
The mobile company person told me that may be a problem about wrong "text messaging numbers". But I can't find anywhere to configure that.
Still don't have answer...

How to change message center number

My phone started acting up yesterday anytime I tried to send a message. I keep getting the red exclamation sign and message not sent error. I have tried the Google messaging app but same issue persists. My operator told me to look at the message center number and change it. Problem is I can't find it in the message settings. I have an N950U running oreo. The option to change message center number was there in nougat message>settings>more settings>text messages.... None of the tutorials online covers how to do the above in oreo. Kindly help.
I have an unlocled carrier branded device, It runs on 7.1.1, for some unknown reason the service center number for sms got erased somehow the option to enter it is present in settings, but grayed out, a carrier employee told me that the only way to fix it is with a factory reset, but as I really dont use sms, as almost all The people Iknow, I do not intend to do a factory reset
You may try to use the automatic configuration offered by (most) providers. Through their sites usually you can get configuration SMS, which I presume also sets the message centre number.
You can take your device to the local high street retail shop and ask them to fix it for you.

On my Note 8 N950FD: Open the phone app-->tap the three buttons on top right-->Settings-->Voicemail Settings-->Voicemail number. Is that what you meant, or is there a separate "message centre" number?
Op is talking about the service number used for sending sms, voice mail number is for incoming calls not picked up, two different things

Ok that's what I thought but wasn't sure. Thanks
So in that case, I checked and am able to change it as OP described: Open the messages app-->tap the three buttons on top right-->Settings-->More Settings-->Text messages-->Message Centre. Not sure why this doesn't work for OP, but it did on my N950FD running latest version of Oreo (not greyed out or missing, I can change it). Maybe it's CSC or carrier related?
I have the same problem you have. Did you get yours figured out without shipping it off? I've been trouble shooting for ever and on the phone with str8 talk now. The n950u doesnt have message center. They even asked me to configure it.
Thanks
Thanks for the information bro
