So now that AT&T FINALLY released gingerbread, is it worth the update? I've been running V20C for a while now and I think it's great. After reading a couple of threads, no one really addressed if the update is better or not and I've also seen people mention that they've been having ghost call issues and what not.
Thanks in advance!
Is it worth it???? Looking at it no, not if you are trying to gain something in 20P that 20c doesn't give you unless you want the ATT APNs and their custom applications.
I thought it had fixed my ghost calls but after 3 days I found I had one.
Maybe I missed it but what is the difference between V20c and V20p?

Mainly service provider custom software and apns.
There are meant to be some fixes in V20P but I haven't heard what they are.
V20P has a slighly different baseband where some customs roms will not give you a signal.
In short V20C putout by Rogers, V20P is put out by ATT
Also AT&T changed the way Bluetooth is toggled, so many ROMs that support V20P will have problems turning it on.

Lately I've been dealing with some ghost calls on V20C with AT&T so would there be less if I used V20P?

Does your rom work fine with that in your 3.1 update?

Hi will this work on the captivate?
http://m.pocketnow.com/android/how-to-get-wifi-calling-on-your-t-mobile-nexus-one
Assuming you start at step 7 skipping the cyanogen mod flashing.
And yes I am using a Captivate on T-mobile. My data plan does not allow for the usage of T-mobile branded Android phones.

Really?
What's wrong with those instructions? It seems as though it just adds certain functions to the kernel for the app too call on.
Sorry I am just trying to figure out how to get this working because I am in a no reception areas for about 5-7 hours a day. This would really help allow me to get service and possibly save on battery life so that the phone isn't searching for a signal constantly.

There are some people who use the Captivate on T-Mobile. A few people have asked if it's possible to still add this feature in the Cognition thread and I have not seen an answer yet.
To answer the OP I'm not sure if it would be as simple as that since you're also flashing a kernel.

Has anyone tried?

if you read the instructions, you clearly need a modified kernel.
we don't have a kernel source to modify. on top of that, for the people who *can't* use it, it would just be a source of potential trouble. if you're on t-mobile and want to use t-mobile features, I suggest buying a t-mobile phone.
until we get sources, we likely won't see this on captivate kernel (as for a vibrant kernel, it's possible, but that has it's own source of issues)

Hey, come to the cognition IRC... I have some stuff you can test, I can open the app and such, but I am not on tmobile, so no way to test it beyond that.
Yeah when I get out of class ill gladly test out some stuff for wifi calling. Ill also have to figure out how to use Irc again. Any helpful guides? Wont be out of class until another 3 hours.

As an update, me and designgears tried several different combinations to try this out. So far I flashed a full Vibrant rom onto my Captivate and got the Wifi Calling to work. The keys were a switched because of the Vibrant Kernel but it was definitely working. Now if only we can port this feature over to the Captivate roms.

are you serious about this? what other quality benifits are there from flashing the full vibrant rom? i'm using simplemobile which is a sister network to tmobile. If you can post a link to it with instructions on how to install it I would be glad to experiment with you!
I literally just flashed one of the custom Vibrant roms in the Vibrant section using Clockwork and it worked just fine. Just some of the buttons were misassigned due to it running a Vibrant kernel.
Did anybody ever got wi-fi calling to work on unlocked captivate on T-mobile network?
Flashing vibrant ROM sounds interesting, but I would prefer to keep captivate rom on captivate.
I wonder if any roms have implemented this yet. I've been looking but found nothing. It would be a great feature. And to all you smart asses that keep saying "get a vibrant," I'll gladly swap your vibrant for my captivate. No? Well this is the phone I have and that's what I'm modding. So keep it to yourself.
Wow, I'm on a 'pay as you go' plan on T-Moblie with my captivate. I would love this if it worked!

So ... I have the Captivate and TMobile and need wifi calling. Can you help me? THanks.
Can I flash LG Optimus 3D roms on my phone? How do I tell if I have a thrill? What's the difference why is there two different sections!? WHATTT????
The Thrill is the AT&T branded version. The only physical difference is a small AT&T logo on the back. The model number is P925, vs the Optimus 3D is P920. You can see the model number in the About in Settings. They run on different bands, so O3D ROMs will not run on the Thrill. If you put a O3D ROM on the Thrill you only get 2G, the "4G" from AT&T does not work.
So they will work but I would get a 2G connection? Could I use their rom manager ways and etc? Is there a way I could just flash the Thrill's radio back onto it after installing an Optimus Rom?
I have not seen anyone pull the radio from the Thrill yet. So far Thriller is the only Thrill based ROM. I think once the GB update comes out we will see GB ROMs. I don't think many devs want to take time tweaking FroYo when GB has been promised by year end (and likely long before that). The O3D was released months ago, the Thrill has been out for less than a month.

Quoting AT&T: "Soon"
"Hi, you can turn your frown upside down soon! No specific dates to share at the moment, but we promise to keep you posted here on the wall with the latest news. This maybe a bit of a noob post. But I was wondering if the hardware is similar enough that I can run an Optimus 3D rom on my Thrill?
I was wrong, ramblings deleted, see below for correct answer.

Yes absolutely you can run O3D roms. As was mentioned before you wont get 4G out of the box without some tweaking and you'll also need to change some apn settings for mms. But overall functionality is there. The different radios arent a factor with the roms since radios arent flashed in that way. Its just that O3D roms dont have ATT's carrier settings by default so you have to add them in. If 4G isnt that important to you (in my area I get the same exact speeds on 4G Thrill roms as I do with 3G O3D roms so I could care less about 4G at this time), then literally all you need to do is change the apn settings for mms and you're good to go. Of course if neither of those things is important to you then you can just run any O3D rom as is.
Being nobody has any problems with it... i would like to start compiling some of the o3d roms that i have tweaked with mms and 4g fixes... but i have to ask for permission first...

I was reading somewhere sometime ago that flashing ROMs on the thrill 3D was wiping the 4g baseband (or something like that), and after that you could never get on 4g again. Is this true?
Would the O3D Rome have the 4G band in them? And above all else do the roms for O3D (stock or custom) have CID in them?
I ask because AT&T is willing to exchange my thrill for another phone due to my concerns of CID. I however don't want an sgsII. I like my Thrill... I've flashed my cappy many times so I'm not ignorant, but I'm worried of loosing 4g.
I flashed Doomed for thrill on mine, and all is working GREAT!

I see there are multiple versions of the Thrill. Mine isnt really a 4G (at least not LTE). Mine is a LG-P925. Will I be able to use the ROMS in the dev section of this forum?
Just want to make 100% sure I dont mess up my phone.
Thanks!

All O3D roms.
Its the same phone.
Most devs on the O3D forum include att apns in their ROMs so its really effortless to install. I would even recommend flashing the V21E kdz rom. This baseband fixed the ghost call issue that still plagues ATT customers today.
