Yes I am running ics on the att vivid but all the steps I show in the video can be used for gingerbread such as installing recovery, the kernel and the rom. I just didn't go over how to unlock the bootloader thru HTC dev because it's pretty comprehensive. And updating the hboot is only if your coming from gingerbread and going to ics

Noob To Phone

Hey All
My GF has just brought a galaxy mini so i was planning on rooting it with this method:
Universal Gingerbread Root & Unroot 2.3.3 -> 2.3.7+
------
However i have a htc incredible and if you are only rooted you need to flash the boot.img in order to get a rom working. Unless you are S-OFF then you can boot a rom without flashing the boot.img and you can change radios etc.
How does it work over here with the galaxy mini?
Basically i want to;
root the phone
install CWM
Install a rom with decent battery life
If anybody can give me help on the above that would be great

On mini its much easyer then on htc phones! Just install cwm with odin or install squads cwm touch with stock recovery then install custom rom with cwm recovery! Almost all custom roms are pre rooted so no need to root when you want to install custom rom!!
Good luck buddy happy flashing

So are you saying I don't need to root the phone. Just cwm and custom roms are the only 2 things I need to do?

Yes exactly!!

That's ridiculous. To root my HTC I had to downgrade my hboot, create a gold card, unlock the bootloader then install cwm and roms. As well as numerous commands on CMD fastboot!

haha that's really it buddy.. it's so easy on the mini.. fastest way is to flash CWM touch by squadzone via stock recovery, choose a rom and flash it in CWM..
And if you wanted to just root the stock rom, you just install an update.zip (for rooting ofc) file from recovery and thats it. Samsungs are much easier
that why galaxy mini IS THE BEST..ALSO CHEAP PRICE ..

How do I update from gb to ics when I got custom kernel and custom rom

How do I update from gb to ics when I got custom kernel and custom rom because my friend rooted my fone and I am new to this stuff. And I cant update. And I want a sense 4.0 rom. Please someone help me

You need clockwork mod installed. Then you can flash.
Follow lynts guide in the development section except you can flash any Rom you want not just cyanogenmod.
Are you s-off or just rooted?

What phone do you have? If your signature is correct and you really have a Xperia Arc S, we won't be able to help you
If you have an incredible S, can you turn the phone off, then turn it on by holding power and volume down at the same time
It should take you to a white screen, and post what it says at the top
Should say something s-on or something s-off
That would give us a good start, because flashing roms with s on or s off is a bit different
Then use the volume buttons to highlight reboot and select it using power to get back into android

Download an ICS ROM! (and a radio). Not a big stuff! NIK Projekt X is great!
AOSP much better than Sense 4.0! But not so beatifull and less stable!
So give a try IceColdSandwich 8.2)
Thanks guys I've done now!!

Bell hardware vs rogers hardware?

My wife and I both own raiders, originally from rogers..I s-offed both phones and we've been running the dark raider rom since about version 1.2 with no problems..still using wcx recovery as I haven't had any issues with it.
Our friend liked our phones enough to jump ship from blackberry and went and got a used bell raider running official ics. I unlocked his bootloader successfully, s-off worked like a charm, but here it gets weird.
It boot loops after trying to install ANY custom rom..! I tried 3 different recoveries, all of which failed on kernel install.. tried the old way and fastboot flashed the boot.img and still got boot loops or crash to recovery..I'm not new to these procedures..even had hyuh from juopunutbear irc remote in and try his hand at it with the same results.
I restored from bell ics ruu - phone boots normally. What gives? Did bell modify the hardware??

My buddy has the Rogers Raider (and I have the Bell) and I've done the root/s-off etc. on both of them and there was no difference in workflow needed.
BUT - I think you may have to flash an "insecure" kernel just once to allow your recovery to successfully flash kernels during the ROM install.
Below is the thread where you can download kozmikkick's insecure (aka "stockish") kernel. It's mentioned in the first post of the thread below. Give that kernel a flash (It looks like it is in a ZIP format that you can install via your ClockWorkMod recovery?) then try to flash your desired kernel. If you want to flash the stockish kernel manually, look inside the zip. There is a "holiday.img" file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572015
Also - Not sure if this matters, but I have been using ClockWorkMod v5.5.0.4 recovery and I have been able to flash many roms (and their respective kernels during the rom install)
Good luck!
So, since he's already s-off now and whatnot I can flash the "stockish" kernel you mentioned on his stock rom? Or will I have to try flashing a custom rom along with it? And if so, coming from Bell do you have any rom recommendations? I'm a fan of the dark raider rom personally.

Sorry bout the link.
I'm not sure if it will work with stock... my assumption would be yes because its called "stockish"... but I dont know. I say wait until you're ready to flash a custom rom before you try it. So - flash the stockish kernel (i prefer via fastboot), then reboot right into recovery, then flash rom... and see if it all went ok?
You have the stock Bell RUU, so if anything goes wrong, you can fall back on that.
Right now I'm on the Pure Velocity rom... loving it.
Omg..ok tried the method u posted with kozmik "stockish"..but got looped at boot... But the rom I was installing had an option to install an unsecured at&t stock boot image and that, of all things, did the trick. What u said made me think to try it.

So... after you got that going, were you then able to flash a rom with a custom kernel (all in one shot?)
Yes. After flashing the kozmik "stockish" kernel, then the custom rom, booting and getting as far as "android is upgrading" before boot looping I figured why not flash the entire thing again this time with the proper kernel and it went perfectly. I was using cwm5.5.0.4 for the record..which I'm told is still the best. My friend was happy, and I was just glad it worked this time..I was so confused why the Bell version wouldn't take the software..!
As always, I found the answer right here on XDA. Thanks again!

(help) Updated to htc one version 1.29.651.10

Hello Everyone.
I updated my HTC One to the latest version and now I want to unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM. My question is can I still unlock the bootloader on the latest version or did they break the unlocking process?
I want to put a custom ROM on there but obviously I do not want my phone bricked. I am NOT new to custom roms but this is my first HTC device.
Thanks for your quick replies.
