lag on scrolling V20N - LG Optimus Black

hi guys , is there any way to fix the lag while scrolling on stock 2.3.4 v20x? i have this kind of lag on contacts menu , settings menu and others... on 2.2.2 froyo there was no lag on scrolling , also in cm7 the same , no lag. But i dont want to flash this ROMs again because cm7 is very buggy has sound problems and camera lag. So is there any way to fix this lag on stock 2.3.4? Thanks in advance

If you wanna stay on stock rom i suggest you flash v20e. If you insist on europe version i suggest you flash v20o. These are latest stock roms. And i think this is the quickest and the best solution to your problem. Rooted ones can be found here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480392 (look at the latest pages)
If you are open to using custom roms and if you are all about performance knock on Huexxx's door and install Zeus v6 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1454274
If you are all about looks then look for the achyut's roms Prada, Sapphire. There is also a great ROM, tantrum's Marvel v6. I gave you a sneak peak. Rest is in your hands. Look for them in the forum make up your mind.
And for a future referance a friendly suggestion: Questions should be posted at Q/A section.

I had both german roms, N and now O, and there was no lag in any menu... maybe your problem is elsewhere, a bad app or maybe too many messages (SMS)??
Try to install WatchDog and look for a bad app... too many CPU cycles...
I have more than 800 contacts... (From '97 and it's still growing), including facebook contacts, a vast array of apps and games and there is no problem, no noticeable lag! The new Gingerbread is way faster than Froyo, so it's a little awkward that you have lag problems.
If you have badly cracked apk's that could be a problem too (try to buy them, google has a very good discount policy), or different add oriented apps, because a lot of them are running constantly and it's no wonder that your phone lags! I had the same problem with GLU's Games... all run in the background and are impossible to stop... STUPID if you ask me!!!

i have lag on the contact list too, froyo was noticeably much much smoother.
its so weird, i havent found a solution yet so i'll be waiting for further new LG firmwares.
(tried both v20n and v20o)

its the same on any rom even zeus v6 , marvel , and v20x its just a 15 fps lag on scrolling , and i dont like it , it isnt smooth enough ... maybe there is a fps cap?

I agree with u guys I have lag too, the only Rom I used without lag was cm7
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA

so is there any way to remove this 15 fps cap ? it would be nice if is a way

The lag everyone refers to the RFS file system and how it affects the phone by slow degraded performance over time; this effects the phones ability to do simple tasks like open applications or run smoothly (a lot more than just the UI and launcher).
Getting a new launcher (like Launcher Pro) will 'cover' the effects of the UI smoothness since Launcher Pro just feels smooth but after awhile, the RFS file system will just barf and degrade your phone to a crawl (if it gets that bad).

Just read around the forums and you'll be well informed

[Q] Need help finding this (smooth) ROM, please!

Ok, a few days ago (or was it last week?) i was reading random posts at this forum from my phone on TapaTalk.
I clicked a topic, and read about a dude who had a really smooth rom running on his SGS.
Some ppl doubted him, so he filmed when he was surfin the standard browser on heavy pages, lots of windows, and switched between em, scrolling and zooming, and it was just soo smooth.. he uploaded and linked the movies to youtube.
I have searched like crazy(!!) and can't find this post, or what rom/kernel he was using.
Anyone here knows what tread it was, or who it was?
I wanna know this because my phone is just so damn slow and lagy, i have tried a few different roms (JS3 only), kernels and lagfixes but nothing helps.. appdrawer (ADW Launcher EX) is lagy. Dungeon Defenders almost unplayable, even in single player. Hell, even the Storm8 games, like iMobsters and Racing Live is lagy when i scroll down... never seen an SGS this slow.
Please, help me..
Thanks!
No one seen this tread? =(
I've heard that JPY is faster/smoother than the one i'm currently using; JS3.
Can anyone confirm this?
Please, feel free to recommend a SMOOTH rom!
I hate this lag ...
I'm kinda new to Samsung (coming from an HTC Desire) so i don't know about all this Odin, Kies stuff.
I rooted via One-click, flashed a Speedmod kernel so i would get CWM.
Flashed Darky's 9.1 rom (JS3) over my JP6 rom that i had from start, original.
I did a full wipe before flashing Darky's.
Ever since that i had these lags... tried Doc's rom, ultimate, insane... etc etc..
Same with all.
Where did it go wrong?
Dont know what i should try next. Either find that smooth rom i was talking about, or get my phone back to original state and hope it gets better? :S

How should your phone perform after mod? 2.3

hi all i just modded my phone to gingerv20
and after my phone now looks better with 2.3 but feels weird ...
- my apps are unresponsive ...i keeps getting app that is not responding and after closing it / rebooting my phone i still is unresponding forcing me to redownlaod the app again
-the camera has extra feature like the fixed focus and the timed function but after clicking it , it still has no effect
-the memory always seems to be very low ( 20mb usually) making me constantly needing to task kill it
-mx player don't seems to be working =(
-the messanger seems to be pretty bland all white only ..is this normal?
-system seems to be little unstable ...a little lag sometimes ~
- the MARKET IS FREAKING LAG!!
++++
+with the dsp manager my sound output is very good and darn clear! love it!
+the phone looks gorgeous
+album is gorgeous
does these all happens to you? share your experience
because of the laggin market and unstable Os imma considering of xrecover to my 2.1 ...should i?
Well, the unresponsive apps don't occour with me.
But most of those things are normal for me.
If you don't like the Messaging app download GO SMS.
Down-Grade to the old market to get rid of lag.
For me the Settings are fine.
If you don't like themes you can always get one for theme chooser. (Preferably ICS by A-Chep)
Leave a thanks if I helped!
And NO, don't downgrade to 2.1.
Just if you need help, ask or PM me.
I felt the same as you when I first got GingerBread.
I was 'll like "what it ", "hmmm" and so on.
I'm over 1 month using it and its GREAT!
The reason some apps are bland is because doixanh wanted a smooth and fast version of GB.
Also, 20-26 mb of RAM IS normal for me.
I have an app called "Speed Booster Lite" from the Market.
It clears cache. And I usually get 40-60 free memory.
If you're lucky, maybe even 80!!
I have about 35 market apps installed at the moment.
Leave a thanks if I helped!
hi irish!
imma try out the app now ~ but my android market is no joke...very very very lag..my phone gets lag when i open the wifi but from the benchmark test i improved from 441 to 951 holy goodness ...but can't feel much different ...and which 2.3 mod do you use?
unlock boatloader and flash custom kernel and your phon will fly and benchmark with alfs kernel in atuntu 1750 min
xrecovered to my 2.1 ...my god the market app just crashes non stop ...so much till i point the finger at my phone ( really pissed!! ) i think i will download a more stable mod maybe a month or 2 later ...gonna rest my mind from modding ...too complex...anyway can bootloader be used on an unmodded phone? and i heard it's very very risky , seeing the guide make me go ??? so complex ...what is kernel anyway? ohoh 1 last question!! is Jit same as bootloader?

Worth getting ics?

I'm currently running 2.3.6 xxjw4 (rooted) and I rather like the official stock Samsung roms and I was wondering if there was a room that was kept as close to stock as possible for galaxy s and if so would it be worth me upgrading, what are the biggest improvements?

i asked there same question, search for debate. I use slim 3.7 with semaphore, I get 399 mb ram, its very fast, multi tasking is awesome, very solid, only downside is gps is not as good with ics. Take a nandroid backup and try it, you'll love it

just curious.
multitasking for what?
I currently use stock gb jw5, and use at the same time gps+navi, music player and phone calls or text, with some background utilities (tasker, avast) with no problems at all.
btw, what's the use of multitasking with a small screen?
you cannot have several apps running on foreground at the same time. sgs is not a tablet, go figure a pc.
can you pls specify what kind of multitasking and in which way it is better than gb?
Does it have the tw launcher? And the big Widgets at the top of the status bar like a stock Samsung Rom?

After encountering bugs in a few ICS rom's, I ran back to the more stable GB custom rom's. I've also noticed that battery backup is better on the GB rom's.
I'm open to suggestions and also willing to try if anyone here can recommend stable ICS rom's to me.

multitasking is the ability to run (or appear to run) more than 1 program at the same time, the SGS is generally restricted by memory meaning when you run a new app, another app has to stop in order to free up memory. ICS has more memory than GB (399mb) meaning more apps can run at the same time, meaning its better for multitasking. multitasking doesnt mean apps are running in the foreground. ICS also runs a lot faster and has more features. Take a nandroid backup and try it!

thanks, but
1- I know what multitasking is...
2- I tried quite any available flavour of ics.
my point is different. On my pc at work as a finance employee, I have lotus notes, bloomberg, matlab, 2 or more excel istances, and who knows what running at the same time. At home, as a photographer, I have the browser, photoshop, lightroom, music player and who knows what else running at the same time.
this is useful multitasking. Not multitasking for the sake of having something you can tell friends. Oh, my phone does multitasking! By saying it has more memory so it is better for multitasking means nothing, sorry I do not want to sound rude, but... better for what, I mean, in real user experience?
On my phone if I browse the web, I don't need to have a photoshop batch running at the same time. Or a time consuming routine under some statistical app. Well, I do not feel I NEED it. If you check out your friends' status in facebook, you're not texting a friend on your sms app.
So my question was: what do you really need multitasking for on your phone with a small screen? Me, I have navigation and music player up while I'm driving, and all services needed to have a phone and a messaging system. bluetooth to communicate with car audio system, data mobile for navigation, tasker to control the settings a bit... but this can be done smoothly and fast with gb, so... exactly in what ics multitasking is better than gb, I am not talking about specs, I talk about real use. did you experience any fc in gb that you do not get in ics? or what? Can you give me some examples where you can take advantage of multitasking in ics better than gb?
this could be a potentially good reason to try ics once again.
More memory so you can run more stuff, its faster, so stuff runs better, more stuff being developed so more options, thats it dude

I know the specs. Don't be generic. "You can run more stuff". Such as?
What kind of PRACTICAL advantage you have in ics vs gb regarding multitasking??
can you provide examples in your daily use?
can you provide any info about your actual improvement?
How many apps do you run at the same time? Why?
How many apps are you able to run smoother and faster at the same time compared to gb?
Gingerbread xxjw4 is better than any ics rom. Trust me I've used cm9 , aokp , weui, and slimics.
Only if your feeling bored and just wanna play a bit you can try out ics. Its nice and different. But don't expect same functionality and stability as gb rom especially xxjw4.
And if you like the touchwiz features like swipe to call etc.. you'll be disappointed.

agree 100%
while stock gb (jw5 in my case) looks like it perfectly fits sgs, imho the same does not apply for ics, so far. The reason to me is straightforward, stock sgs roms are hardware specific since they also include closed source drivers, as far as I know.
but of course, you'd better try and decide by yourself, ics is free!
last time I tried cm9 - a couple of weeks ago - I got some random reboots, but maybe I messed up things, I do not know, and maybe newer nightlies or other ics roms are more stable.
Hi.
I'm on ICS333 1.1 for two days now. I tried nearly all the other ics roms, but this one is the best, in my opinion. everything works fine.
I can't tell you if its possible to use an external sd-card (within ICS) because i'm not using one. But the rom is fast and smooth. gps, wifi, hspa, cam etc. is working without issues.
The only thing to mention is, that when locking the phone, you got access to the notification bar if you got the std lockscreen on (swype to unlock). so i'm using patternlock.
backup your efs-folder ans try it out.
greetz, andi. sry for my bad english

My phone is SLOW. (I'm on Sammy's JB leak). What can I do to speed things up?

I actually use my phone to do stuff... not only tinker endlessly with it. I have Skype, Whatsapp, FB, Twitter running on the device at all times.
Last time I checked, when I boot my phone I have 768 MB in use! So when I open Chrome, or Logmein, it takes.. .forever. Even opening the dialer takes a couple of seconds. The phone itself is smooth - opening apps is what chokes my phone.
I don't overclock my phone (on JB it's impossible, anyway). But I don't think it's a GHz issue. I think that if I had 2 GB of RAM everything would be fine.
Anyway.
Should I get off JellyBean for the time being and go back to ICS? Or, would CM10 be faster and lighter?
I can't believe that when I got my Note a couple of months ago I thought it was blazing fast, and now it seems turtle-like when comparing it to my wife's Optimus 4X
In Cm10 or 10.1, ram usage is low and apps open fast too.
There are several things you can do to speed it up and lower the RAM usage. Easiest method would be to flash a tweaked ROM like Ultimate or Alliance, which already come with various optimizations. But what I found best regarding RAM usage was to install ROM Toolbox Pro, and tweak the settings under Memory Management. I use the "Advanced" or "Aggressive" profile.
This is, of course, if you want to stick with Samsung ROMs. Otherwise you could try CM/AOKP-based ROMs, some are much more lightweight than Samsung. The best in my opinion are SlimBean and Jellybam.

These is a mod for Google now on ics too
You should try Cassies Xtra lite 11.1 LSA (there is slight difference between LSC so dev didn't make a ROM that's based on LSC)
Than flash LSC kernel if u want and use V6 superecharger from zepp and your antutu will be somewhere near 10000!!!
Thanks tu CF,Zepp,Thering1975,Adam Outler,Eybee1970 and Philz.
Try this Ram Optimizer Pro...has different profiles to choose from....

Also if you wanna OC to 1.6gHz here ya go..just install the apk then load the module then set your speed..

All the possibilities above are good alternatives to you, friend.
I use CM10.1 cause I'm always looking for good battery and smoothness.
As I'm too lazy to install and tweak those RAM optimizers, I always try custom ROMs.
Btw, Jelly Bam is trully great.
