[Q] - Help with Hard Reset - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

The device is a Motorola Droid and it is completely bare bones STOCK. I wasn't "allowed to play" with this one! It is my fiancé's old phone and she wants to sell it.
Problem - I've tried both the hardware and software methods to hard reset it. Both methods get stuck on the black Motorola logo splash screen. I've attempted both methods numerous times with the same result. I have searched xda and google, but haven't found an answer. I've found similar threads, but they relate to rooted phones and the update.zip seems to be the fix.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...thank you for your time.

Did you check droid forums on how to do a hard reset?
I would also try updating the phone cause that could be part of the issue. If you are worried about personal info like pictures and contacts being taken you could possibly try rooting it and plugging your phone into the computer and wipe all the information manually in windows explorer. I do not know if a root is necessarily required though. Also try contacting the carrier or manufacturer.
Cheers

Orange TyTN II troubles

Hi there folks. Appreciate you having a look here, and bear with me while I try to explain everything as I am unsure what on earth is wrong with my phone.
Firstly, I have read pretty much everything that the wiki and stickies and various other posts have pointed me to before making this post, so I am going to utterly hate myself if you guys point me in the correct direction within a couple minutes. I don't think that will happen, but none the less!
Secondly, as the title says, I am running a UK HTC TyTN II with boot SPL 1.81.0000. I have Radio 1.27.14.35.
I only got my phone on Weds of last week. After reading various bits, I tried installing HardSPL, and got the white screen of death. I didnt have time at that time to find the answer, but have subsiquently located it. Shortly after that I located and installed KaiserTweak, and then Resco explorer. Now, both these programs were installed, but I made no changes to anything with them.
After a little bit of searching I found the white screen fix. Great I thought! So went ahead and downloaded the files and stuck them on my PDA. When I tried to run them, they would not run. The error tells me that they are not signed or corrupt.
Ok, so I thought I would try and fix the signiture issue as that is most likely the problem. So I try to run KaiserTweak. No joy. I try to run Resco. No joy. Neither program will do anything. Next I try to re-install either of these. Nothing. Wont work. Either tells me the same thing as the SPLs do (invalid signiture or corrupt) in the case of KaiserTweak, or tells me the installs have failed in the case of Resco.
Now I have tried to install anything and everything since this, and not one thing will install. Nothing. It wont let me change anything or get to anything. I have tried hard resetting the phone, nothing changes. The phone still acts like it did the day I bought it, and as most Orange users will know, they have destroyed any useful software that HTC has used in order to rebrand it with their OS. I would dearly love to get another cab on there, but I am at a loss as to figure out how to get past this stuck phone?!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Small problem

Hi,
I have tried several ROMs, all of them work just fine until (after a period of time that may range from hours to days) and when I soft-reset my device, it acts like if I hard-reset it; goes through the setup, contacts gone.. etc. Anybody?
I do flash ROMs following the the steps in the related threads.
I've tried to search threads for anything like this, but I couldn't find any. (I hope I didn't miss any post, I know how annoying it would be for more to ask for something that was asked before).
Ah, and this is my first post! I'd like to thank all the devs for their outstanding work.
Thanks.
How do you reset the device from the back of the phone or from the software.
If you do it from the back of the phone, it should only do a saft reset not eraase anything.
If you do it using software on the phone, It maybe written to do a hard reset, I advise to check with the maker of the software or ROM what type of reset it is suppose to do.

Returning a bricked phone

So, I have successfully bricked my phone (not by choice). I am a long time WinMo user and I have never even come close to bricking a phone. Today was exactly one week from when I bought my first android phone and I bricked it.(not blaming android, I love android)
I have tried EVERYTHING, to no avail.
My phone is on the phone++!++computer screen.
So, first thing tomorrow morning, I am headed to the AT&T store for replacement (I will act dumb and get the phone).
My questions are -
1.Will my information (contacts, emails, etc.) on the phone be checked or in any way violated?
2.If they do find out that I had rooted the phone, after I have already walked out of the store, can they do anything about it?
1: Yes, the contacts and all other data on the phone itself is still there, and will all still be there when Samsung / AT&T *un-bricks* the phone.
2: They "could", but I am not knowledgable enough to know if they "will".
Or, save yourself the hassle, and the negative moral karma, and read here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
I've intentionally (with much failure), tried to "break" the phone so that I'd know how to fix it.
The above linked post will not only recover you from your "phone++!++computer" issue, but actually works so far as the dreaded "orange hex dump".

I have tried everything. I don't want to return this phone, but there is no option left.
None of the methods work and I am pretty experienced in this stuff. So, its not that I am messing up on the methods, its just that there was a batch of phones that had the key combos disabled.
Once you get the new phone there is nothing they can do because they have already agreed to replace it. All they do with it is send it off to be refurbished and it is completely wiped clean. I agree with the others that you have not tried *everything* because I have yet to read a post on any forum about a legitimate bricking of this phone.

I can tell you that by flashing ONLY the pit file in odin another user and myself were able to succesfully make the phone unresponsive to all buttons, all methods and all pulls of the battery. it literally turned into a brick...then again i would call this an illegitimate method after realized how simple it is now. as long as i can get power to the phone thou i have to agree ive been able to save it every time now

Seriously?
I was up for six hours last night trying to fix the damn thing. I don't want to replace the phone just because I want to beat the system. I have never ran into problems when I am modding. I always figure it out, but when the phone is absolutely unresponsive to all keys, what am I going to do?
Anyways, this thread can be closed now.
That same screen (http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/8420/hum1e0.jpg) happened to me yesterday. I thought I had tried all of the key combos but I missed one.
Try the following: (I know you said you tried all of the methods, but I thought it was worth mentioning just in case)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 (Method 3)
I hope if you have not tried that yet, that it will work for you and save you the hassle of going to ATT.

seems pretty complicated to flash this phone. My last one-Nokia N900- is very easy to work with. It never get bricked.

I tried that too, nothing. I got it exchanged. No hassle.
AT&T store rep just said the phone will be factory reset and there is nothing to it.
Anyway thanks for the help folks, really appreciate it.
Lets hope, I don't bust this one because the phone I just got is also impervious to key combos. I tried getting into recovery (just for the heck of it), it didnt work with the keys, had to do it with "adb reboot recovery".

[Q] Black screen after Flash

So here is what I have. One of my friend's girl friend attempted to flash here T849 T-Mobile tablet. I do not have any info on if she attempted with Heimdal or Odin but the result was that it would not turn off. They brought it to me and I ran down the battery and recharched it, I was able to get it into download mode and have attempted several firmwares via Odin. All have passed and installed fine. When I turn on the tablet after the flashes it still has the black/blank screen. I hear the boot sound and the soft buttons at the bottom light up as normal. Its like the screen is dead. I do not believe it is though. Any suggestions?
I have attempted the power+touching screen trick to reset. It resets fine but still no response from the screen.
Like the other ten people posting about a black screen, you have a protected bootloader.
I have been part of this community for about 5 years, I read alot on here dont post alot. I have read all the threads pertaining to that problem but have not found a solution that worked to fix it, or else I would have not posted. So rather than post a smart ass response trying to expose me as a lazy xda newb asking a dumb question how about suggesting something that I have not tried.
As stated in the first post I have done complete stock rom reinstalls and can not see an image on the screen so I can not turn the apk to unlock the bootload. So still no love. Do you have a suggestion?
Also, I have nothing on the screen at all. most of the protected boot loader stuff I have read at least has the phone exclamation triangle computer graphic up. I have nothing.
I gave him the answer and he complains about it.

Ok, you stated that other people have had a similar problem. The ways to avoid it are in several places in the galaxy tab forums. The ways to fix it I have yet to find. If you are as helpful as you are suggesting would you be as so kind as to give a tip on how it could be recovered? This is not even my tab. I would not have had this problem in the first place.

[Q] Bricked during reinstall of backup

Hi. I've messed up and seriously need help.
My phone is stuck on the startup-screen showing "GALAXY S GT-i9000".
3 key combination VolUp-Power-Home just swiches that screen on and off.
3 key combination VolDown-Power-Home brings up the Download screen, but can that help me?
It don't seems to be contact between the phone and my Windows 7 PC.
I've found some fixes involving special hardware, soldering and/or resistors. I don't have those things or any experience in soldering.
Is there any way I can save my phone without doing hardware work?
If you have download mode it's not bricked, just flash a rom using odin corresponding to version you already had installed. If you had 2.2 flash 2.2 if you had 2.3 flash 2.3. search youtube for tutorial on how to flash using odin.

remove the battery for 2 minutes. put back the battery and go to download mode..
If it was bricked fyi, you'd get no response from any combination
This happens sometimes when you restore a CWM backup, it means ther kernel did not retsore correctly. Just go into download mode and only flash the kernel you where using in your rom, or even one of the kernels like semaphore. Your phone is fine, not bricked.

I used to be in your situation. I tried re-installing and installing every possible drivers and the computer still wouldn't recognize my SGS. I guess there are ROMs that you can't restore backup from the Recovery Mod. Odin would not recognize your device no matter what. I sent it to a couple of SGS local experts and they said they couldn't do more because they said the damage I did was too major and they have no guarantees that my phone wouldn't get worst after they tried fixing. So they recommended me to Samsung Service Centre.
And this is what they tell me. Your SGS is actually not going to operate anymore unless it is revived. So Samsung will have no idea what happened to it. Blame it on Kies and if your SGS still has warranty, you will get your SGS fixed for free. Cheers
Thanks
Thanks all of you guys for your replies.
I was way down when I wrote the question. I'm new to this sort of problems.
BUT after a lot of hazel I managed to save my phone. I also experienced a bootloop, but flashed a new ROM and came past it.
For a newbe like me its a lot of information out there. To much really, to be able to find what your looking for...
My humble requests to all of you making tutorials:
- Don't expect that everyone knows where to find the files and programmes you refer to. I spent a lot of time trying to find the the ROM I needed.
- zoom in so we can see the file names you are using.
Besides that: Thanks to all !

As a beginner, you're right: it's a ton of information to absorb, and sorting through the endless tutorials filled with vague terminology you can't even begin to piece together is a frightful journey—especially when you're doing it while your phone sits beside you semi-bricked. But I'm glad you sorted it out! It's an adventure alright. Just make sure you learn more than you lose.
