I am new to trying to root my LG Revolution after the VZ8 upgrade...Can anyone help me with step by step instructions...that is how new I am to this...before the VZ8 upgrade I used SuperOneClick and that was easy enough, now, I am trying to understand some of the new stuff, but am afraid it is somewhat over my head.
Thanks in Advance...

"USB debugging" is greyed out with ZV8
I thought I would share some bad news that I've already found in just 5 minutes with ZV8 installed.
#1, TOP OF THE LIST ... Under Applications > Development, you will find that the "USB debugging" is greyed out so it can't be clicked anymore! (Same as the tethering function).
THAT, I recall, is key to the rooting process.
HELP! Can one of you "rooting experts" help out some LG Revo guys with ZV8 installed?
Thanks!

Were you plugged into the computer when it was greyed out?

When you have your phone USB mode on "Internet Connection" it greys out the development options. You have to turn them on before you enter Internet Connection mode.
I have a brand new revo with zv8 (plugged in to pc) and i do not now nor have i ever had that problem

Silly question, but did you read the instructions on the one click root thread?
one click
yeah i went step by step on both "one click" methods... neither got any future the "super click" just kept looping even when i dissconnected un-checked debug re connected and dissconnect and re-checked debugg.
That is weird. Are you on stock? Try flashing back to stock and root the phone.

Hi All,
I just purchased my Captivate yesterday from Costco (Expecting to still get the 2.4 Eclair) but unfortunately I got the Froyo 2.2 on my new captivate.
I tried rooting it using superoneClick and it just gets stuck on "Waiting for Device". I have drivers properly installed on my windows 7 64 bit machine (because I can use the phone and access its internal SD card).
Can anyone have suggestion or faced similar problems?
I have tried disabling/re-enabling usb debgging while it says "Waiting for the device"
Search the forum. There are a few threads floating around on different ways to root the stock froyo build. I don't know why the superoneclick wont work in your case but a search will turn up some info for you.
thanks. I will search the the threads and will post my results here in this thread for someone like me struggling with the same problem.
If you were planning on flashing a custom ROM after rooting anyway, you could use Odin one-click from download mode to flash 2.1 eclair, and then go from there.
Are you sure you are enabling debugging? I just used superoneclick on my phone last night after I flashe dback to stock.
First thing I do is change the phone in settings to - Ask on Connection, then I enable debugging.
Also you could try a different USB port on your computer and also make sure you have all of your necessary drivers installed.
I hope you get it figured out!
PeteSeiler2010: I haven't tried different USB port yet. I will try tonight and see if it goes through.
For usb debugging, I tried that as I mentioned. Let me just conform what I did. When it says "Waiting for device" for several seconds, I disconnected USB cable from either phone or computer (because it says that if you are stuck on "waiting for device", disable and re-enable usb debugging) because without disconnecting the cable, phone didn't let me disable the USB debugging..
So looks like I am missing something here??

want a much easier method? install speedmod kernel using odin, reboot into recovery, advanced features (not the CWM version), and choose the option that says something like "root phone" and choose the "simple" option. congratulations, you are now rooted and running a custom kernel with CWM that can install a custom ROM.
next time, please do not post this in development as this has NOTHING to do with development. Q&A or general next time, please.
How did someone with no posts, post a question in this section? I thought you had to have a minimum of 10 posts to post in here.
I am sorry if I have missed that rule for the new posting but I am new (just two days old) into the android world and for the xda forums as well..

thats when I just registered.. I will be the active member now as I officially own the android phone.
I really appreciate all of you guys work and I didn't mean to offend any one by posting the thread here.
I already apologize for missing the rule for the 10 minimum posts on forum before posting.
I rooted my device successfully by using odin. Thanks all of you for the suggestions.
Hi, I am struggling to root my tab, I have searched the forum and tried superoneclick and z4root. Both fail - z4root indicates that I should turn on USB debugging, but this is greyed out and I can not set it.
Kies still works and can explore the cards, but no root.
Can any body either suggest how to root or enable the usb debugging?
cheers

usb debugging is greyed out when it is connected.to the computer.. disconnect it first.
but z4 doesnt work after the update that was pushed out. (at least not after the vzw update)
what is the issue when you try superoneclick?

SuperOneClick can get it here http://shortfuse.org/?p=13 and make sure before you connect that you have USB debugging selected, then once that's done just click root and few moments later happy days!
brilliant, thanks for the help and pointing in the right direction, all sorted now. hitting the learning curve!!

wrong Forum mate, ask in SGS 3 forum
I am considering rooting my LG Optimus 2x (P990), running Android 2.3.4, using SuperOneClick which I have installed under Windows XP on my laptop. When I connect my device to the laptop running SuperOneClick should SuperOneClick recognise it in any way or should the window stay blank until I click 'Root'?

mate,
try using the search function.....you have a complete sticky thread in the developers section///I am giving you the link....but there is no need to start a new thread for something already there,,,,,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037751
superoneclick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953182
Thanks for the understanding
Hope this helps you
SuperOneClick is the root method for froyo (despite the confusing "gingerbreak" name), and you can find the gingerbread root method thread in the thread that is listed above.
Thank you both for trying to help but I had already read those links and they didn't answer my original question which was why I posted it.
However I can now answer my own question - "When I connect my device to the laptop running SuperOneClick should SuperOneClick recognise it in any way or should the window stay blank until I click 'Root'?"
The answer is that SuperOneClick shows no reaction when the device is connected i.e. the window stays blank. I decided to risk it anyway and clicked 'Root' using the SuperOneClick default settings. The result was a rooted device. Very easy.
