Hey i was wondering if there were any new gingersense roms that are only 2.1 with no added 3.0 features. as much as i like 3.0 i find all the roms a bit buggy. i think its due to the low memory and big file size of the 3.0 apps
im just looking for a full sense 2.1 rom so i can have the pull down toggles and the new app drawer. any roms out there?
I am currently running the Optimized Gingersense Beta 1 rom. It is strictly Sense 2.1 and is very stable for me. I have been using it as my daily driver since it was released. I know the latest Betas have been a mix of Sense 2.1 and 3.0, but I am waiting for them to become a little more stable.
Good luck.

That rom incorporates bits of Sense 3.0 as well. I think the idea of a 2.1 port would be great!
EDIT: I missed the beta 1 portion, my apologies.
what are some of the bugs in beta1? mms?
yea i dont think it would be to much to change. the lockscreen and weather app are a big bulk of the size i believe
I would also love a stock sense 2.1 rom

Arent all of the Sense 2.1 ports GSM based? Everytime I used a Z Rom or Sense 2.1 or 3.0 (Whatever hybrids they are now) I would get phantom calls, funny mobile data switching, and the like.
If there was a CDMA based port perhaps this would all be moot?
There's a Thunderbolt gingerbread leak that one of the devs said he'd look into seeing if it was easy to port - assuming data worked when he tried. Not sure on his progress... but I too would like to see a stock 2.X rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996193 - link to TBolt leak.
warm z 2.0 ran wonderful on my phone and i had no phantom calls. these were some problems for others i believe. its just hard coming from warm z which was super smooth and going to a 2.1/3.0 hybrid with all that bulk and then getting lag in places i never experienced before
I'm behind this one too. Not saying that the 2.1/3.0 hybrids are bad, rather quite the opposite. They are amazing ROMs with amazing developers behind them. Just the 3.0 features create lag in places and eat just a little too much of our quite limited ram for what I do with my device. Would have made a full stock 2.1 with the new fixes myself except ... lol ... I don't know how.

I would love to see a port right from the EVO Shift...it's cdma and some 2.1/3.0 ports are already floating around out there...nothing it stock 2.1 though.
I think you will find that the 2.1/3.0 Roms have come a long way. Nils ginger sense is getting great reviews. If you have a spare 30-40 minutes, flash Newts Hybrid. He has fixed a lot of the issues. He just found the 720 cam fix and it also fixed the gallery. No lag in lock screen and no Rosie loading issues. Worth playing with.
not saying they havent, the definitely have, i just prefer sense 2.1 everything pretty much, at least for the dinc, only camera and weather do i like @ 3.0

The newest ones are cdma based (evo shift and evo 3d) so the phantom call issue is nonexistent on those

yes we didn't.
The IS was launched just one month before the Desire S, it did not get Sense 3.0 and has been abandoned by HTC because of which this is probably my last HTC phone.

Not sure I get your gripe, the phone is over a year old. It's time for you to take responsibility and flash it.
Let's forget about ICS for a while. According to our sources we have a sense 3.0 rom with 2.3.5. coming in December. I would be happy to grab that. I have a feeling that we are not gonna get an official ICS rom at all.
Don't want to flash. Been there, done that with my hd2 million times, there were always glitches and stupid bugs. Don't want to waste my time, warranty on custom roms on incS. Does a perfect bugfree out of the box like sense 3.0 rom exist for our device? Love the sense ui, so not big fan of cm.

Sense made my phone laggy and have terriable battery life. Why would I want that.
Cm7 is more like an iPhone. Battery is better although not quite as good as my friends iPhone 3gs that has 80% battery left at the end of the day on ios 5.
I agree. Why bother with official ROM's when year has passed - no warranty anyway. I get 5 days of battery life with CM7.

we should be getting ICS update for sure ans some phones listed out by HTC are older versions than ours..also tried the ICS rom by galinet miui but somehow it does not go past the bootup screen..
Using cm nightlies and I don't see what the big deal is about ics... I'm not sure what else I want my phone to do that it doesn't do already. I can phone and text, send picture messages, browse the web, use torrent, watch movies, connect to a printer, feed other devices using the portable hotspot, play snes, nintendo, n64, sega, gameboy, game gear, take photos, record video in hd, use gps and navigation install any app I want and control my bell pvr while I'm taking a crap. What else is it I need?

that's one way of looking at it but i think you are missing the point. from what i've read, ics is supposed to enhance the android experience. in other words, add more polish and improve the look and the feel of the operating system. what you are referring to is hardware capabilities and app functionalities.
if I can have the same functionalities in a more polished package, I would at least want to give it a go.

that's a known bug with the new release. there's a workaround for that: you have to flash the weekly (non-ics) version first, let it boot up, reboot into recovery then flash the ics version on top. or you can just flash the previous release (v1.11.9). it's been flawless for me.

Unofficially, probably after S-Off is released and CM9 is out.

Define issues, and honestly, since a global rollout has yet to occur, I doubt that upgrades >4.0.3 are going to occur. Maybe the regions that have yet to get ICS may get 4.0.4 or later, if those regions ever release an update.
Honestly, you're probably going to have to wait for CM to give you that.
question????
@ Aus_AZN
Why do you think or what have you heard that indicates no Sense 4 for Vivid?
I'm new to the HTC line and reacquainting myself with Android phones. I had a Moto Droid X a few years ago until it was stolen. I was loving it compared to my old VeriZon semi-smart phone. But then it was liberated.
I also lost everything after the loss of a family member. So I really haven't had a quality phone for the last 2 years until I upgraded to the Vivid. I didn't do much research, I just knew it would be upgradeable to ICS. I only upgraded to it because I was able to get it for $49.99 as an upgrade from a Fry's electronics near me. So far it ROCKS!!!!
Also where is a good or great source to learn more about Sense and what it adds to the phone? I have seen very little here or on the HTC site or AT&T either.

Well, the Vivid is definitely upgradeable to ICS, just not Sense 4 ICS. The way Sense 3.6 looks is very similar to the way it looks on GB; you just get the ICS bonuses when you update it.
I for one hope we see sense 4.0 at some point. It's not out of the question. Hopefully after the one line gains some steam they'll update it.

Many bugs on this update like losing reception when entering a train station then having to manually turn it back on when back outside or rebooting. Lost of audio on games which needs a reboot and the constant upgrading android on reboots. I believe we will get an upgrade to work out the kinks. But doubt a sense update but who knows we got beats audio and sense 3.6. HTC is cool like that

I've had sprint and t-mobile att is by far better in pricing. They even waved my activation fees and sold me a top of the line phone for 1 cent. While sprint and t-mobile man enough said. Never had verizon but after walking in and looking at the prices I walked out and never went back that was 5 years ago. What its been 5-6 months, fastest update to the latest and greatest ever not to mention we were the first to receive ICS if I'm correct. I think people are upset about the whole no unlimited data thing. But for what I use my phone for its ok haven't even hit a gig yet. Also lowest cancel fee as well. Haven't really needed support yet so don't know about that but S&T forget it.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
All I meant by that is that ATT has been notorious for only providing 1 major update per device (minor security/software patches aside). We got ICS and Sense 3.6 as the update, I don't see, from history, ATT giving us another big update like Sense 4.0
What pisses me off about all the cell phone companies is that they waste technology with greed. This phone among others have 2 CPUs and a monster gpu yet the current software does not utilize it very well at all. Now quads its truly a waste of hardware. When phones like the Samsung epic still does very well. ICS uses more resources and the following android update will use even more, making capable phones unable to be upgraded do to lack of resources. Now as far as sense 4 goes our phones have enough resource to handle the upgrade to not give it is a waste and a greed move. Also I hate reading a phone has 1gb ram but 300 available, its starting to be a joke. Laptops another mobile device that can receive the latest and greatest as long as the hardware is supported, they should just offer upgrades for a price which would guarantee upgrades as long as the hardware meets the requirements and offer them from the play store. And fixes should stay free.

Really overall the update has been pretty good to me. Some minor quirks here and there but everything works and it seems stable. Sense 3.6 works well just the look of it all gets to me. Coming from a Samsung, touchwiz definitley adds its own look but keeps enough elements that you still know what version of android your running. The way it sounds is htc rebuilt sense from the ground up to look good on the one series but just did some minor tweaking on the updated phones. I still question the call imo. And I don't get why htc feel the need to remove overscroll glow and Crt animations on their roms, very cool effects that SHOULD be enabled! And why is the app drawer so.... Gingerbread looking? And where are the widget previews and why aren't they located in the apartment drawer?

From this article it sounds like 4.0 is more of the same anyway but it's spot on about what bugs me about sense ics
Thanks for the link Cor-Master!!
I may want to back off of Sense and see what ICS really looks like. Who knew HTC was bastardizing ICS so much. Im new to the Vivid so I had no idea what Sense really was. Now I know more and knowing is half the battle!
Yeah and like the author I'm not against custom UIs. In away its what android was all about and it allows manufacturers some freedom in putting their own stamp on Android. But in the case of sense its just too much. A good example is my captivate and it's official gingerbread update. Samsung put their own stamp on I with touchwiz but it still looked and felt like gingerbread. All and all I'd say touchwiz was 80% android. And the launcher wasn't as heavily weaven into the ui as sense so as for me I spent a majority of my time with it on adw ex. But sense is probably 30% stock Android if that. They really went out of there way to make sure android didn't look or feel like android anymore.
I like sense for the most part and the issue is fixable if htc just does a few minor things: #1 kill all the textured menus and use the stock holo theme for everything. #2. Enable all ics animations #3. Keep the notification bar stock. And last but not least #4. Use the stock app drawer. They could keep everything else the same and sense overall would world's better!

I like Sense. 3.6 is a huge step closer to an AOSP feel than 3.0 or 3.5 was. 4.0 looks even closer. Any way I look at it though, I like what HTC did with Sense. I think it enhances the look of the OS, without compromising resources too badly. It's definitely my favorite Android overlay (over touchwiz, motoblur, etc)...and it's one of the many reasons I bought the Vivid, because I like Sense. If I didn't like Sense, I probably wouldn't have bought HTC. Especially one who's development is a little slower than others.
i guess we just have to wait and see what happens maybe att will release an update for it i dont know

CM Roms are AOSP based and will not contain Sense. CM always use AOSP
Kind of funny but I've been thinking about this. 4.2 is almost an update designed to make bare bones aosp android better, and does almost nothing for a phone with a manufacturer skin. 4.1 would be great on this phone with project butter, better notifications, and Google now, but here's the rundown on 4.2 features:
Better camera app: sense 3.6 already has a nicer one than aosp. No photosphere but its kinda of a gimmick "look what my phone can do" feature anyway. The stock camera app has always sucked until 4.2 and the update finally brings it up to par with custom ui's, but does nothing for us.
Improved lockscreen with widget support : sense pretty much has the best lockscreen with shortcut support and notification widgets that appear through sense apps. Custom widget support would be nice but aosp still doesn't have shortcut support.
Gesture typing: yep, we got it on the stock "touch input" keyboard. next
Quick settings : yep sense has that too
Tv out support : while we don't have miracast support, about every htc device post evo 4G has either an hdmi port or mhl support. I'm sure the vivid is no different, but correct me if I'm wrong.
Better alarm clock app : the aosp alarm clock app has always been an after thought until 4.2,however ui's like sense and touchwiz have always had really nice alarm clock apps and the 4.2 app really just brings stock aosp up to par with the ui's
User profiles: this feature is tablet only and disabled on the phones so the vivid wouldn't get it anyway.
I think that's about it. So there you have it! I really kind of believe 4.2 is catered to nexus devices, and I honestly could see a lot of manufacturers passing on this as if they do update, then it'll be little more than a version number change. If you're in the market for a non nexus phone and it has 4.1, then your already up to date.
Just something I thought about. Thoughts?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
And before anyone calls me out, I got a nexus 7, so I use 4.2 on a daily basis, so I'm not just posting on stuff I've read lol.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
I have a nexus 7 also and personally I'd like to see 4.2 on the vivid because I HATE sense.... Didn't realize how much I didn't like it until I played with pure android. But I'm guessing that if we can't get CM10 to work on this phone, there'd be no reason to worry about 4.2 or not!
Sent from my De-Sensed HTC Vivid using xda premium
Yeah I'm not to keen on sense either, thought it was awesome until I got a phone with it and had to use it every day. If by some Longshot we get jellybean, I hope it comes with Sense 4+ and not the underwhelming sense 3.6 that's on this phone now. From what I've seen sense 4 is world's ahead of what we have.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Once cm10 is completed bring 4.2 will be easy as there isn't much difference between 4.1.2 and 4.3 when it comes to making things work
Anyways I love the 4.2 camera...and I think I read others here on the vivid are able to use it on ICS....
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Well I was nearly speaking from the perspective of stock, of course I'd want it for cm, but cm doesn't quite have 4.2 ready yet anyway. I hope you can pull it off, I might keep this thing if I can actually get away from using sense or "desensitized" roms.
Problem is with the development we've had, nothing really seems done. I'm sure there is some way to crack the ril issues, so kudos for not giving up. I know I've complained alot but really the phone is no different on stock than any other phone, it's just development hasn't been so great as the best developers keep giving up on the phone in favor of a galaxy s3 or something else.
From a stock standpoint this is better than my captivate I had before, but I would of hated the captivate if I had to be at the mercy of at&t and Samsung for updates which is where we're at with this phone currently. So best of luck to ya hope you can finally solve the dreaded ril issue!

Lol I feel the same...but since I have the phone and at least somewhat knowledge on this stuff I figured I might as well try my best...that being said I hate HTC and will never get another one...this vivid ruined it for me. Like you say, stock wise this phone is great...but that's it. Once you go into the world of custom ROMs this phone takes a major dive to nowhere :/
And honestly...ialthough I will keep trying I don't think I'll personally ever figure out the ril/mic issue...but since we got h8rift now I think we may stand a fighting chance...he is a real dev, I'm just a contributor...hence our titles

Yeah they can make some beautiful looking phones with excellent build quality but sense hasn't aged well and every post sensation device has been a lot less developer friendly. I almost think they feel insulted that anyone wouldn't want to use sense and feel like their phones are perfect already.
But the one x, one x+, and DROID DNA are all gorgeous looking. Hell really so is our phone. Make no mistake their phones are awesome its just the software that blows.

If the HTC One comes with Sense 5 and runs like a beast why would someone want to use aosp? It seems like you lose a lot of features in the switch. Things are broken as well. I've never come across an aosp Rom that was 100% working on any device I've owned. There always had been troubleshooting I've needed to do, a lot of it. Not trying to upset anyone, just curious about the rationale. I understand getting some features that you can't with Sense but that thought process is vice versa, or can go both ways. Personal preference I guess. Any thoughts, comments? What would I be able to do with aosp that I cannot with Sense? Looking forward to a healthy and productive discussion.

Aosp eventually ran 100% on the Evo 4G and I never looked back.
I always found myself sticking to aosp once 4G was working on the 3D as well and never really missed the 3D feature much. But I see your point. Right now, with how well Sense 5 seems to run and what's currently broke, I can't understand wanting it... Right NOW. But once most things are functioning I can see it getting popular.

I remember gingerbread running pretty nicely on my OG Evo as well. I do A LOT of different things on my phone (as I'm sure most of us do ), but there would always be something I could find. Guess it's just me being nitpicky lol. Didn't you release a Rom or 2 over there?
I love this newest version of sense, miss some of the old sense widgets though. The zoe feature is top notch, and the camera pics are better then any mobile phone camera I've ever used. And I also have to admit, I'm in love with Blinkfeed. Everything right on the homescreen that I want to read, and some things I didn't, but found out that I did lol. All around I think it's a great os. I'm curious to try out some aosp on the One but I don't know if I'm willing to give up those features. I'm also intimidated about the internal data moving around between aosp and sense, and having to manually move it around. That's why to me right now it's not worth the change. Well have to see what's in store for the future.

I suppose the benefits on a device this fast would simply be the fact that its the latest android release 4.2.2 as opposed to whatever android version sense is (currently 4.1.2). Honestly for the enrichment that sense brings I don't see it getting nearly as popular on the one unless klp brings some killer features. Until the next iteration of sense comes out and we get that update....
I'm with ya OP I just don't understand the reasoning. But some people are just purists I suppose and want stock Android for some reason. I've personally always thought of AOSP was kind of moving and meh.

I tried CM10.1 for a few days it's night and day more fluid. If it gets fully functional bye bye blink feed.

I just finished my OG Evo run with Decks Reloaded and everything was great but, it will be awhile b4 I give up this version of Sense. I'm not as jazzed about BF but, I do love the camera and its features and the overall lightness of it these days. I originally learned about rooting due to lack of space on the OG Evo but, those days are long gone!!

Funny, I originally learned of rooting due to wanting free tether on my OG Evo.

Right..I was a junkie for all the things you could when I first learned about rooting, I was reading forums ALL the time!!!
Another thing to add is that Sense 5 is much more transparent to Android. You see a lot more of AOSP in the new version of Sense, like the notification menu, some of the text editing, etc. Personally, I like Sense over AOSP because AOSP to me seems just too basic. And this is a good in between to where I've actually been happy with it. Sense 3 and 4 were just way too in your face, but I liked it because it was Sense. I now see it more because I have the One. At this point, if HTC stays with it's values on Sense 5, and continues to innovate, more people will likely stay.

That's because all AOSP ROMs are a hack. I'm sure it will be as fully functional and stable as any OEM Sense ROM.
The CM Project has some of it's own code. But they don't have access to firmware and they need to play together. HTC and Carriers have access to everything.
People always think open source means Open everything. It's almost always a Hybrid with some propriety pieces that are not released and the "public" code is always lagging in what's released.
Some things done on AOSP are reverse engineered when they don't have source for something (or the latest source).
I've yet to see a AOSP ROM CM have a FULLY functional GPS. Nor have the ## codes ever worked which I find really useful.
By the time they (Sprint HTC CDMA Android phones) are Officially Supported (if at all) it's over a year and the next generation is released.
Unofficial AOSP (CM) is always behind.
To answer Ops question, some ppl like the pure android experience. AOSP Roms are usually the 1st to be updated to the latest version of android. Also, AOSP Roms take up less memory than Sense roms. There are some features I actually miss from CM/AOSP like widgets in lockscreen, 4.2 quick toggles from notification drawer, quick reply to text from notification drawer, 4.2 photosphere, etc. I used to just run CM on all my devices when available but I'm actually liking Sense 5. For me, I'm happy with it and don't see myself flashing AOSP any time soon

I think on dated HTC phones aosp was the way to go because sense was over bearing.. aosp came along way as far as functionality and features. Aosp opened development to things like cm, pa, rootbox, akop with things we never have on sense. Now on the other hand sense 5 is the sweet spot and with the camera features how sense is more incorporated into android opposed to how sense just ran on top and took control. Sense 5 is more like Pippen to Jordan rather than Shaq and Koby both wanting the stardom at one point
Tricked Fauxed Sprint One
Sense is one of the reason I use HTC. I tried a few asop roms on my ol g evo (loved that phone)and never liked them as much.

Has anyone ported a sense Rom for a device from a different brand

I am with the op as well. I use HTC devices because of sense. I would just use a nexus if I wanted aosp. Just a matter of personal preference I guess.

Well right now there isn't much advantage. But when key lime pie lands and then L whatever it becomes a lot more appealing. HTC won't keep this updated for the two years I will own this phone but I will still want to play with next great thing and not be stuck here. Usually bounce between ASOP and the newest sense that gets ported.

I was a AOSP user for awhile on my cdma htc hero and my lg optimus s (AOSP made them less sluggish). But I always had some sort of bug. When I bought the S3 I was excited because the phone is so popular I figured AOSP would run really well and the bugs would be gone....Needless to say it was always too buggy for me (and if you goto the cyanogenmod thread there is always someone reporting a bug). So I stuck with touchwiz but didnt like the look so I themed it and honestly I was pretty content. A large part of why I like cyanogen is because it looks really nice.
The new sense hit it out of the park IMO and is a great base to tweek up even better than touchwiz. Looks wise its awesome and it has many good features. I am now going to root and install a custom rom based off of stock. Stock tweaked rooms seem to be where its at right now.
Im not going to lie if I could choose plain android vs sense I might choose android but the choice between modded AOSP (buggy) and stock modded is simple.
also it's the battery life of aosp roms, usually cm roms easily doubles battery life for me, on the lte i could easily go 1 day and half on my batt when most on sense couldn't make it thru a day being a heavy user, there are pros and cons to sense and cm
I decided to try vanilla Android and brought a Nexus 4 and guess what? Guess they call it vanilla for a reason. It was absolutely the boringness phone I have ever had. I only lasted 2 weeks with the phone before I gave up on it.
