[Q] Galaxy note and Clockworkmod - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear Readers,
I think i have a problem with Clockworkmod
I had flashed with succes ICS Stunner 4.1 and wanted to flash the new version of ICS Stunner but when i try to update trough CWM it keeps trying to update system but it does ´nt go any further.
Then i can restore trough CWM a GB version and after that the Criskelorom ICS v01 then the phone works again so i think CWM is broken how can i fix this ??
Could you give me some detailed advice
Thanks in advance

No but i have to reinstall CWM not install
Thanks

can you confirm your root is intact?
then flash CWM with mobile odin OR Initial root flasher.

how to prevent your note from hardbricked

when you flash any new rom you are taking a risk to cause EMMC Bricke, so the solution for this is before you flash any rom you have to keep a copy of Abyss Note kernel on your external memory card, then restart your phone in recovery mod and flash the kernel after that make reboot in recovery mod again then follow the new rom flash instructions
Note:
1- when you flash the Abyss Note kernel you have to be sure that really you want to flash a new rom other wise your phone it will not work until you flash the new rom
2- no need to flash this kernel if you need only to update your currant rom

This is only applicable to stock ics roms and custom roms using stock ics kernel (don't think there are any anymore). Emmc is not triggered by flashing but by wiping which is done in menu, dialler, recovery, by changing csc or flashing a full wipe ics rom.
All gb kernels are safe from emmc, abyss is a gb kernel, so the same goes for any gb kernel.
Just to clarify.

I want to flash LQ2 over itself to stop root as unrooting isn't making the fact it has previously been rooted to the Sky Go app. Can I just flash LQ2 using Odin mobile and not risk the brick bug?

Use CWM to flash zips.
Use pc odin to flash tar files... Just wipe cache and flash it..
Using jbroid kernel script before flashing is perfect in CWM.

Depends on the kernel..Don't wipe with stock kernels which comes from Samsung officially...Flash a safe kernel first then Do wipes...
so flashing to the abyss is the safest way to upgrade then....great

Yet Another Question About Flashing

Hey Guys
I Know you get quite a few people ask what I'm about to ask and yes I've searched but since the touch version of CMW has been declared dangerous at the moment I thought I'd ask.
I'm Currently on "N7000CPWLP5" Stock ICS and I want to install "KingDroid ICS NoteMania v7.3"
1. What recovery is safe to use to install?
2. Do I need to flash a different ROM or GB before going to "KingDroid ICS NoteMania v7.3"?
3. Can I just Copy the ZIP over, boot into stock recovery, use some zip of CMW, reboot recovery, do a Nandroid backup, wipe data/factory reset, install from zip, select "KingDroid ICS NoteMania v7.3" then install? Or is it different on the note (Previously knowledge from previously owned ZTE Blade)
Thanks

DO NOT use that temp recovery, best is first root using new method in dr.ketan's thread and then flash custom ICS kernel using mobile odin, it will also install cwm recovery to your device and then you can flash Kingdroid using cwm recovery.
You can also root and flash cwm recovery together by flashing custom kernel using pc odin if you can handle yellow triangle
Thank you I Will now try it!
I've used it before it was unknown to damage/brick but luckily I was safe!
Thanks Again

After rooting via flashing a custom kernel of your choice, you can download Triangle Away from the Google Play Store to get rid of the yellow triangle, if you cannot bear the sight of it!

Need a bit help on custom time installing for note ics

Hi to all expertise,
I currently have a note with stock ics 4.0.4,
it use to be on gb 2.3.6,
I use Dr ketan method (thanks) to upgrade to ics 4.0.4,
by stock gb > install custom kernel to get cwm > wipe data > wipe cache > wipe del cache > install stock ics using odin > install cwm.zip at stock ics recovery > install super user to root
Now,
I heard that if u wipe data, wipe cache, wipe delcache on stock ics will brick your phone,
so,
I can't use cwm.zip to install custom rom,
am I right?
Can teach what way should I use to install a custom rom for ics?
Thanks in advance.

Stock gb > Use PC Odin to install stock ics > install custom kernel for ICS like Philz or hydracore using PC Odin (you will get CWM & root)
Once you instal custom kernel for ICS like Philz or hydracore, you are safe to wipe since these have the eMMC_CAP_ERASE disabled.
Restrict the use of CWM.zip.
if you are not rooted, use the Philz kernel, and install from stock recovery. It will autoroot your phone and its a safe kernel and has best CWM ever built
I did a root using the cwm.zip last time till now, can i direct use the method u said or do I need to do something else 1st? And after the kernel flash by ur method, I can direct flash custom time like cm 9, right?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
i guess you are rooted as of today. Right ?
if yes what kernel are you on ? In on stock, immediately move to Philz kernel. you can use Mobile Odin to flash the kernel if rooted. if not then use the stock recovery.
After installing this kernel, you can directly flash any ROM you want
I'm still under root today, since that day using cwm.zip to root it.
My kernel is on stock ics LR2.
Baseband is LR1.
Can I direct use the stock recovery method to install this kernel u said, without unhooking the previous root?
Oh, and I didn't install mobile Odin since the day I rooted my note, just for reference.

PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR2-OLB-v2.7.signed.zip
Is the the correct kernel I need?
And so, I will following the step bellows even though I have done the root by using CWM.zip till now:
1.put the signed zip file to the root of extenal sd card.
2.go to stock recovery, not cwm.zip recovery.
3.flash safe kernel zip.
4.reboot.
5.all set to flash custom time.

[Q] Help . n700 brik

Hi guys,
I have a big problem and hope that someone can help. Today i rooted my note and i proceed in updating my kernel(used GL_HYDRACORE_v7_STD with mobile odin pro). After i flashed it my phone won't boot i can only see samsung galaxy note and that's it.
What can i do?
Thanks in advance.
You have to be more specific and give details.
What was the rom and kernel when your phone was okay.
How you did the rooting.
Did you confirm rooting.
Did you try to flash any other rom or just kernel.
Are you able to go to recovery and/or download mode.

Phone was on stock 4.0.4 i think, haven't flashed any other rom.
Root was oke rooted from recovery with Root_SuperSu 0.95
root was confirmed with root checker
i can go to recovery vol up + home + power
Until now brick isn't confirmed here. Think positive.
Alternatives:
In recovery: restore a backup - if you made one.
In recovery: install philz kernel, reboot into recovery, install a Custom Rom
In download mode: install a Stock Rom oder a prerooted Rom with PC Odin
Then we continue with analyzing - if not already solved then.

i am new to android so i need a detailed tutorial on how to do these things.
Didn't make backup.
Well there are very detailed guides here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1346&nocache=1 Just take your time.
1:- search for speedmod kernel (as Philz needs information to match your ROM), connect your Phone to PC and see if you can put that zip on SD card. then boot your phone in recovery Vol up etc and flash that zip.
reboot recovery and wipe data Factory reste and dalvik. reboot phone and hope it works.
If not then from same forum find a suitable ICS/GB rom and flash it using PC Odine. detailed giud and downloads are in same thread.
BTW. This galaxy note I have is my first Android phone and I have not only soft bricked it once and recovered, but also have flashed 7 different roms my current rom is 4.1.2 JB. And I did all this just by reading these forums. you check my post count. So my suggestion is take your time, search for correct threads and trust me there are more than enough people here to help.
You are right. I have flashed several ics and leaked jb custom roms and note is my first smart phone. Believe me, not even a soft brick. All because reading in details of this forum, before doing anything.

[Q] Downgrade CWM from 6.??? to 5.???

Hi
I updated CWM to 6.??? to try a KitKat ROM but I want to go back to a Gingerbread one. I don't know how to downgrade the CWM to 5. When I try and install a CWM 5 zip file via CWM it gives me lots of errors.
Is it possible to downgrade the CWM?

You can either flash stock rom via odin on comp and reroot, or download and install mobile odin ported to our device. And then flash the odin flashable cwm.tar file through mobile odin.

You cannot downgrade from android 4.x to android 2.x. That's because 4.0.4 and higher roms have a different bootloader. So don't try to flash gingerbread over kitkat, but if you tried and your phone didn't bricked let me know!!!

I know well what CWM stand for and what it is. I know he was asking how to downgrade from CWM 6 to CWM 5 but he was asking also for a downgrade from KitKat to Gingerbread. I just said that it could brick the phone.
For the CWM downgrade you must:
1) reboot in recovery mode
2) install the latest PX recovery for galaxy ace
3) reboot recovery
4) install CWM5
5) reboot recovery
6) done!

Actually downgrading from KitKat to Gingerbread will not brick the phone as long as you flash it through odin. Then again flashing any Gingerbread custom rom will not brick your phone as they are made to work only on CWM5. Hence flashing Gingerbread custom rom through CWM6 will only give you errors. Its always safe to install Gingerbread stock rom using odin. Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin along with all firmwares and drivers (check "Preparations" section),
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin/
Once installed, go to recoverymod and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace,
How To Root and Unroot Samsung Galaxy Ace?

Also if you still want to use KitKat, then you can use the KitKat version flashable through CWM5 by @Salim El Yabouri. Here is the link,

About your remarks:
1. cwm 6.0.4.8/philz edition did not work. a) it has mount problems; b) it prevented android 2.3.5 from booting.
2. You, before editing, said recovery is independent of the rom on the phone. If this is the case, then why all cwm 6 versions are in trouble with /system on my phone? and why mardon said that won't work with stock rom?

Cwm 6 or 5 cannot mount /system /data or /cache bcoz cwm cannot handle samsung's filesystem rfs used in galaxy ace. This problem has no solution except changing to custom rom or using cfroot kernel which has ability to change fs type to ext4.also it is quite better than stock kernel. Proceed with caution. Also i think you need android 2.3.6 for cf root kernel. You can download official android 2.3.6 from sammobile.com and cf root kernel for s5830
from Google. Also do try cwm 5.0.2.6 once it can work.
And btw flashing 2.3.6 will wipe data cache root everything.
If you choose to flash 2.3.6, try cf auto root kernel. Cm roms use ext4 by default with quite better kernels.
