My G1 is being a REAL B*TCH!
Firstly, the root method I followed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098899
I've loaded the CM, FBL, FCS and GS roms and each ends about the same way...first boot always goes right to the android and the login and what-not.
However, restart my device and it hangs on the G1 splash screen. What gives?
I'm tired of having to reflash a ROM every time I need to reboot.
power on holding camera or back - write down everything it says. you have amon ra recovery correct?
Yes I was running running amon ra recovery, but I guess we'll never know since I've already rolled it back to 1.6, I'll try again and see what happens.

Restored to 1.0, update to 1.5...pretty much the entire procedure over again, plus the FCS ROM install followed to a t. Same exact problem. Here's what it says:

Is the G1 splash screen supposed to be there for like...15 mins?
At this point I know I didn't miss it twice.
Must be a curropt emmc, not too common on a g1. Either that or something very strange is going on that I'm missing here. It could be some setting that is anabled on boot such as some overclocking. Sorry I'm not going to be much more help other that suggesting a 1.6 rom say super d and stick with just the danger spl and radio. Worth a shot?

I keep trying to load the ROM but they don't seem to take so I just get stuck with the ROGERS logo loading screen and nothing else after that.
I can access the system recovery utility, I am using the CyanogenMod v1.2 + JF. After I apply sdcard update and reboot I get stuck on the ROGERS logo.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
are you waiting 15 mins? after flashing it takes upto 15 mins.
15, 20, 25, 30 minutes...
have gone by, with nothing happening.
Ok, If you can access recovery and spl then you aren't bricked.
What ROM are you flashing?
Is your card partitioned or is it a single fat32?
EDIT: sorry didn't see you radio and spl versions in first post.

I've tried several different ROMS haykuro, hacheroski, rogers, etc...
Card is partioned as a single fat 32
Many ROMs require a second partition--EXT2/3/4. One Fat32 partition won't get it done for these.
Find Cyanogenmod 4.0.4 on google and use that, It doesn't require a second partition. In fact I think only Hero roms require multiple partitions.
Just downloaded "update-cm-4.0.4-signed"
Loaded the update with recovery utility and now I'm almost 10 minutes into watching the Rogers splash screen, again.
My version of CyanogenMod v1.2 + JF recovery utility does not have a selection for backup recovery. I have the option to make an nandroid v2.1 backup. But how do I do a restore?
since your phone is rogers and rogers phones are special, did you do all of the fastboot commands
How bout a good ol' fashion wipe
Wow, I must have overlooked the fastboot commands, I'm not exactly sure what that is. I think I've found myself in a complete quagmire trying to read through the threads. The blur between Rogers Dream and Tmobile G1 instructions for this process has confused me. Quite frustrated now. Thanks for the help so far though. Cheers!
How might one upgrade the recovery utility from cyanogenmod 1.2 to 1.4 if I cannot do anything besides doing a power+home button OR doing a power + camera button? I am basically stuck since the device just rests on the Rogers splash screen all the time.
here is the link to the rogers thread for rooting it, you will need to do the fastboot commands from it with the gimme root file from it.
I apparently screwed some things up in my attempt to upgrade to Cyanogenmod 4.1.99 so I can move to 4.2.3. . . anyway, I now have the HTC bootloader up with fastboot, the standard Android recovery, and HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83 firmware installed, and its up and running. I don't have root, and I am completely lost as to how to get root back, get cm-recovery 1.4 back, and from there, I should be ok...
I do have DREAMING.nbh on my sd, and when i go into fastboot(pwr+camera) It gives me a list:
Parsing. . .[DREAMING.nbh]
[1] BOOTLOADER
[2] RECOVERY
[3] BOOT
[4] SPLASH1
[5] SYSTEM
[6] USERDATA
[7] RADIO_V2
Do you want to start update?
<ACTION> Yes
<Power> No
This is where I don't know if I should do anything without advice, as I don't want to brick my G1 any further
Anyone care to help out?
if you messed up like i did a few months back , and lost root because you flashed the htc recovery image and didn't flash cyan's rom on top of it then...i can help. i'm assuming you lost root on your rom because of that, and when you rebooted it took out cyan's recovery image as well, so you can no longer flash anything else into your phone. Alright! first thing's first, is we need to have a look at what spl you're using, take out that dreaming.nbh file from your sd, you won't need it, instead, put on a recovery image like cyanogen's 1.4 or amon ra's 1.2.3 (i suggest the latter)
anyways , you're gonna have to have the hard spl/ engineering spl/ or the haykuro "death/danger" spl installed on your phone. I'm going to assume you have at least one of these, because if you don't and you have the stock spl that's a different story. If you have the stock spl for some reason, you are gonna have to downgrade your phone like you did when you first got root. Research the forums , there are loads of guides on how to downgrade your phone, go to the section that specifically talks about using the bootloader to restore the dreaming.nbh file.
if you do have either the hardspl, death, or engineering's spl,
you need to search the forums on how to use fastboot and adb
you're gonna need to push the recovery image file (cyan's or amon_ra's)
into your phone and wahpow!
you're in the green, once you have the recovery image back in the phone, you can boot into it and flash w.e the hell you want

I know that I had HardSPL on at one time, would everything that has happened somehow remove it, and how can I check if its still there?
I will likely use Cyanogen's recovery. If possible, link me to a good "howto" on loading Cyanogen from Fastboot.
alright, to check what spl you have, turn off your phone and hold camera and the power on button,
you'll go into your bootloader, and it will display what spl you're running
it's been a while since i remember what numbers belong to what spl, but as long as you don't see the multicolored spl, and you see like three little android bugs on the bottom, you're good to go
uhm i kinda saved random links to things that i used, you're gonna have to read all these documents and learn all about adb, it's worth it in the long run, and there's no better time to learn it now since it's your only hope of getting root back.

Thats all it gives me, but there are 3 Androids on skateboards at the bottom, and its a all white screen.
I cant seem to get the SDK to work, let alone install on my PC here(Damnit Vista, I can't wait for my copy of Win7 Pro to get here!!!!) so I might just let it charge up overnight, check here in the morning and give it a whirl on my laptop with XP. Hopefully, I can get this all taken care of. You have been a world of help so far. Just keep an eye out for some updates here tomorrow.
SAME HERE wow, couldn't get the damn sdk to work on vista either
GO XP
that's what i did, worked instantly, find someone with xp and ask them to let you borrow it for about an hour
----
you have an appropriate spl btw, it'll be able to fastboot correctly
in the meantime, i'd read up on those links i sent you, especially the last one,
and you'll be good!
goodluck!
ok, looks like I got the SDK to work on here, and I have it updating right now. Its first update was the USB driver. If anyone has some time, and wants to send me a IM over AIM to help me out with this, please IM me.
I am going to let this update, and then hope that I can get it to flash cm-recovery back onto the phone.
cm-recovery 1.4 is BACK! OK! AWESOME
god this had me abit scared.
Ok, back to the prior task at hand. at this point, can I update to CyanogenMod 4.1.99 then update to 4.2.3, or can I update this directly to 4.2.3?
ok, you cant update directly to 4.2.3 XD
Ok, awesome, ive got cm-recovery 1.4, and Cyanogenmod 4.2.3.1 up and running. Time to give Cyanogen some credit. this firmware is FAST!
Also, I want to thank everyone that has helped out with my issue. you are all worthy of a beer...I just aint got any money to pay for a beer for you all right now XD
So I'm not an expert at this at all, which is why I'm coming to you guys for help. I'm trying to flash CM6 on my girlfriend's G1. So I rooted her phone, flash Amon Ra and then Flashed Danger SPL. Now 2 things have happened.
First, and more importantly, I cannot boot up the phone. It hangs on the G1 screen for as long as I leave it on (I've tried for 2+ hours)
And second, for some reason the recovery has changed back to JF1.42. I don't remember flashing this. Was it the Danger SPL's doing? Anyway, what do I do? Someone told me to just flash CM6, but Amon Ra is recommended so I'm afraid of bricking my poor girlfriends phone =/ Help me out guys! Pleaseeeee! I can imagine my girlfriend's face if I tell her that her phone is broken. It breaks my heart
Bump! Please help =[
Can you boot into recovery?( power off phone, then turn on by holding home and power button)

Oh you should go to youtube and type in "how to root and install cyanogenmod 6 on g1" and see if u did the right steps when you rooted the g1 and follow their instructions on how to install cyanogenmod 6.
This is what I did when I first rooted my phone and installed cyanogenmod6.
Sent from my COS-DS using XDA App
I have a rooted G1 and installed the latest CM6 but it completely messed up the phone. ADW force closes and I can't open anything. I can't use Wi-fi because it gives me an error, I don't have data on the phone so I can't install anything from Rom Manager either. I used Superwipe and tried to install some ROM's but it keeps saying that the process has been aborted. The only rom it will let me install is the CM6 that is broken as hell. What can I do? I don't know what's wrong with the thing. And like an idiot, I didn't make a back up.
What SPL/hboot do you have? I thought that CM6 required a different SPL?
I don't know what an SPL is. How do I check which hboot I have? I can still go into recovery, but the phone was already rooted when I bought it and had CM4 or whatever.
Turn the phone off, hold down the camera button, and the press power (camera+power). There should be some numbers at the top of the screen. That will contain your hboot version.
Also, FYI! CM6 might not be a good ROM to use. Those are the symtom that happens to me. And don't even try using ROM Manager on it, it could give you a soft brick.
Suggestion to use one of the ROM here at XDA, there are GB, Froyo, ASOP with different build.
And recommending updating your SPL/HBOOT to 0013d, and your radio to either 27.08 or 28.25. Since most of the new ROM required those. Make sure you do radio then SPL, or you could brick your G1.
This is exactly what I see:

I've tried installing the ROM's from here but it keeps saying "Installation Aborted" and won't let my install ANY room not even the original CM4. Ok after applying the update (from holding the camera button+power) it installed the original android OS that came with it. Now, knowing the information I gave you above, what is the best ROM I can install and what are some steps I need to take to ensure that it will install properly? What do I need to do first? Everything in this section is a little wish washy and kind of hard to find.
There are requirements for the ROMs and most if not all of them required current radio/SPL as I mentioned.
Here is the instruction from ezTerry's 2708+ enabled kernel [14MB ram with radio 2.22.27.08/2.22.28.25 & hboot 1.33.0013d]
Warning: Please do this at your own risk. This is not the safest method for doing this. It is much safer to flash this with fastboot. Although there are lots of good reactions in doing thid. I am not responsible for damage or even bricking your phone - Do not skip anything here, please follow everything on this post.
Today I am going to teach you how to flash the 1.33.0013d/2.22.28.25 combo in Amon RA recovery! Like I said, this is not the recommended method, but it works, when you follow EVERYTHING on this post.
WARNING:
1) flashing a 2.22 radio via recovery if you have a 3.22 or 1.33 radio via recovery *will* brick your phone
2) flashing the 1.33.0013d spl with a 1.22 radio via recovery *will* brick your phone
So, first off, you have to be rooted.
When you are rooted, you have to have Amon_RA recovery installed. On how to do this, I have a tutorial for it here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623954
Now, you have to upgrade your phone to Danger/Engineering SPL. It's called like that, because it has a danger of bricking your phone, and it enables fastboot - a tool, that gives you the oppertunity to flash ROM's and such from your computer.
It's like a recovery, but from your computer. To do this, click here:http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Dream:_DangerSPL
After you do THAT, you can finally start to flash the 1.33.0013d SPL and 2.22.28.25 Radio. This will produce 14 mb of extra RAM for you, but won't be able to play 3D games, like Temple Run. But the 14 mb of RAM really makes a difference. Also you won't be able to use CyanogenMod ROM's, although you can temporarily switch back to Danger SPL. Just look in the EzTerry thread.
You can find the links for those down below:
HBOOT: http://code.google.com/p/g1tools/downloads/detail?name=HBoot-1.33.0013d.zip&can=2&q=
Radio:
http://rapidshare.com/files/43135125...22.28.25_S.zip
Now, put all file to your SD-Card, and reboot into recovery. *TIP* If things go bad, please make a Nandroid/BART backup before you do anything. And one thing, make sure that your phone battery is full, as in green LED, before you flash any Radio/HBOOT, or simply plug your phone into your charger. Now, go to the wipe section in your recovery, and just wipe everything, like press every option you have and wipe. Or simply use Oshaka SuperWipe. Oshaka SuperWipe is reccomended, because it wipes some things, that your recover does not.
After your wipe, go to install zip form SD-Card, then pick your Radio file (update-2.22.28.25 blah.zip and install it. If it reboots or goes to a unpack a MyTouch 3g screen for 3 minutes or so. WHILE YOU'RE DOING THIS;DO NOT IN ANY WAY INTERRUPT THIS; THIS WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE; IF IT STAYS FOR 10 OR SO MINUTES; YOU MAY DID SOMETHING WRONG AND YOU BRICKED YOUR PHONE , SO DON'T BE IMPATIENT BY PULLING YOUR BATTERY! After that it reboots and goes back to recovery. Then go to Flash zip from SD-Card and choose the HBOOT-1.33.0013d.zip file. It will install itself and remember, dont be scared by long waiting times. Now, if you did what I said, power off your device and press [POWER+CAMERA] . It says:

I said that they have a choice between fastboot and recovery and i reccomended to use fastboot. It is a choice, for me it's much easier to use recovery. fastboot is a little too much for me, so that's why I did this. Also, I think you have a stock spl/radio, you have higher risk to brick your phone. It's in the warning section.

Quick question about 28.25 radio. I've already read the post of differences of 27.08 and 28.25. But I can't seem to send MMS. I can receive but when I send it says sending, and stays that way, could this be fixed by updating to 28.25?
