They all come with warranty so really does it matter. And just becsuse one phone is in repair does not mean the ither factory is better. All products can suffer defects no matter where there made and no two phones are equall regardless where there made

I heard that those in Vietnam are the best ones. They don't have problems with the screen rendering.

Seriously I don't understand peoples obsession with Korean made Samsungs and Finnish made Nokias and such
no matter where they are made they have to adhere to the company guidelines and quality checks so it doesn't really matter does it ?
why would the companies deliberately create sub standard products ? Won't that hurt their reputation and goodwill if they do so?
I understand that cheap products made in China aren't often Upto standards but you are taking about the flagship device of a giant electronics manufacturer , Samsung does have some standards
But for your piece of mind I suggest getting an insurance on top of the warranty

not really, had note made in vietnam and had those problems ;D
IMO, Vietnam would produce something better compare to the China but I believe we can trust Samsung to it.
I completely agree with itsrijo... Where ever the product is manufactured the machines and instruments used for manufacturing and calibrating are made in one place and by only one vendor. For example a die for making outercase will be manufactured by same vendor that we cannot indulge two for big investment like this ( because cost of a die worth upto millions). And we cannot get the similar output.
The only difference is people who manages the output quality ( initial quality study also called IQS) may have different level of standard which may result in different Level quality. I own many Chinese manufactured products (branded) and most of'em working good without any trouble.

Mine is Chinese and works great and never had any issues, we'll it did have an issue with the Franco Kernel but that was due to hardware revisions.
Several years back I had simular situation between VW Golf's, I Brazilian made or right next to it was a German made one. I chose the German one. Wasn't much of a choice though since at the time, all TDI motors and transmissions were German made. 220K miles later, it was a good choice.

Mine also is white. And my feedback would be: color banding in skype, xda app and other app are 100% software related because i have ics and no banding at those app, with gb i had color banding in skype, xda. Talking about black color clipping, hmmm hard to say, i had black note made in vietnam and it had huge black color clipping and now i have white made in korea, black color clipping isnt so visible. In shinny days it is impossible to see black color clipping, at night you can see a little clipping but it doesnt bothers me btw my old one black note had much bigger black color clipping
Here in India i have compared all the makes from china vietnam and korea but vietnam is comparatively performing better.china had overheating issue, koreans had bluish tint on the display but vietnamese has only these clipping and banding issues which also exists on the the other two,i guess its a software concern and samsung will be addressing the issues with ics update.and ya guess what i found is smoled might have great contrast ratio but the display on htc one x is a stunner, you must see it to believe it.it was a bit more costly so i went for note

I've noticed when scrolling down pages etc that occasionally the touchscreen seems to miss a spot, like it's not sensing any movement in that particular area of the screen, a "deadspot" if you will..
has anyone else noticed a similar occurance? On my Iphone 3GS I noticed no such issues.
The basic concept behind a capacitive screen is that it has a grid dot array, and senses current change between any multiple "nodes" and then registers your input accordingly. If you look at your screen under the sun you will see this grid dot array, with many tens of dots splattered around the screen..
However, I noticed my old iPhone 3GS had a LOT more of these dots on the screen. I'm wondering if it's just my screen protector interfering with touch motions, or if its the fact that the grid array isn't comprehensive enough.
TL;DR
Does anyone notice dead spots on the touchscreen of their Optimus 2X?
Also, I notice I need to aim slightly above my intended target when pressing links and such, does anyone else have this issue?
Thanks.
No deadspots that I can register, potential culprit could be the kernel you are using.
As for the aiming slightly above issue, I agree with you, if I use my thumb I really aim a bit higher, but if I touch with my pointer finger, it is dead on
I cannot compare this touchscreen to iphone because I've never owned one, but responsiveness and precision is as good as on Galaxy S which my brother currently has
I have noticed no deadspots or lags (despite of some leaked roms with this particular known issue..)
Compared to my friend's Iphone 4, noticed no difference..

It smells like a hardware problem. I never had it and I never heard anyone have it. Send it to service.
Actually our touch its pretty good. 10 points of multitouch.
What I remember is that with gr1 rom from modaco if i recall correct some raws on the right side were dead so you couldnt hit "p" easy but that was roms problem. CM or stock are fine.
I think you got a bad apple (no pun intended)... I upgraded from iphone 3gs/Xperia x10 to optimus, had the three of them side by side for some time, and the o2x's screen responsiveness is, at very least, on par to iphone 3gs. X10 with wolfbreak's rom was a little bit less responsive, but no compaints about optimus 2x. A dead spot issue looks like a hardware fault.
And sorry for my bad english...

Yeah, I meant the display felt less responsive/precise, not considering the dual/multitouch capabitities, bcos wasn't the focus of the discussion...
What ROM are you using? Maybe you're running some bad kernel with the touch-bug? For example Pauls r23 have it. Try neoblaze. Or if your running a stock rom, what version is it? I think there is one stock with the bug also, not sure.

I have/had a white one... On mine there were no probz at all.
However, i didn´t test it that crazy... No banding and no abnormal pixelation of the blacks atleast.
Atm it´s in for service... Had a complete crash... Maybe that will be the white version faults
^ What about the issue of faint horizontal and vertical lines especially on a white background at minimum / maximum brightness?
I have a white one as well. no problems at all

Have a White G NOTE ... no problems with the display!
^What is the Month of Import?
the white ones suffer from the same problems as the "blue" ones! seen two of them, both had the "classic" faults: one had a very strong tint which got worser on the right side of the screen, the other one was considerably darker and had a yellowish tint over the whole screen! both had the black clipping issue and cut the gamma test at 4 (in standard mode)!
VERY IMPORTANT:
i had a LOT notes so far, all of the screens were faulty to some extent. only 2 out of 14 had a correct (or at least much better) gamma calibration/value, but both of them had other severe problems (one side tint, unevenness)!
also to notice the "blotch errors" you have to display a black picture, go into a complete dark room, let your eyes accommodate and see for yourself!
AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO COMPARE YOU WONT BE ABLE TO TELL IF YOU HAVE COLOR TINT (only if its really dramatic), I THOUGHT A FEW TIMES MY SCREEN IS NOW REALLY GOOD IN TERMS OF COLORATION, BUT EACH TIME I WAS ABLE TO OUTPERFORM IT DRAMATICALLY WITH AN OTHER DEVICE!!
SO: IF YOU THINK YOUR SCREEN IS FINE: DO NOT COMPARE!!!
otherwise you WILL get worried!!!
just my 2c...
have a white note from movistar in Spain and has the display and camera problems.

I think you are looking for a more objective reply rather than a subjective one, I recommend you stop your search for now and probably wait a few batches later.. Maybe 4-5 months from now? If the S2 was a sign of things to improve it really did after 6 months.
I'd figure since new models are set to release, Samsung must have already addressed the problems in the newer Note sooner than it did for the S2.

I was able to check 3 brand new white colored galaxy note from 3 different local shops and they have the video issues the same as mine which the store rep confirmed after we sent the file over and had them test in their storage room, which is my primary concern.
With just a quick glance, I can easily tell those units still show lines, dirty grey renderings and yellowish/greenish bottoms on the screen, this is with an objective result, subjectively the lines are not visible when viewing pictures of anything other then grey or browsing websites with brightness not lower than 2 notches.
I dont think they can or will address this as fast as the common screen issue everyone has is very subjective to the user and only those that are noticeable get returned, some insist on using a higher brightness just to cover it up.
Boycott Samsung 'till Further Notice, LOL
Sad to say, even the latest S2 display is better than the Note. The latest S2 batch corrects a lot of the problems that existed in prior batches. I've seen it myself; thats to easy to appreciate. Too bad Samsung doesn't give a damn about their own flagship products.
EDIT: @EarlZ, not a personal question, question to Samsung, Why would I want to conceal the problems that exist by decreasing the lifespan of my product; raising the display brightness will in turn reduce the lifespan of the AMOLED Screen, lol.
Its been like 3 months or less since it came out from the market so its a given that it will take a while to improve.. give it another 2-3 months more.

On a subjective side, you dont need to do anything special just use the phone how you would normally do and if you dont see anything that bothers you or any image abnormality then simply the issue does not exist on the phone, If your a new buyer just perform the things that you normally do and might do and from there draw your own conclusion, Like others I do not know the exact ratio of good to bad screens/phones but subjectively a majority of the phones should not have any issues on the screen.
If you want to perform something more objective you need to be more open to the methods, there like 3 active threads about it you can easily read up there.
I have a white note for the last 3 days, and due to a few threads about display and other problems, I have been especially looking out for them. but so far I cannot find a single problem with the display or any of the other problems that people have been complaining about.
It was bought from Amazon Germany and shows:
Android 2.3.6
baseband n7000xxla4
kernel 2.6.35.7-n7000xxla4-cl886827 [email protected] #2
build gingerbread.xxla4
If that is of any help to anybody.
But I'm not looking at it with one eye on the screen and one on a spectrometer
just my ol eyes, which to those it looks and works fantastic.
and also my 25 year old son, his eyes should be better than mine also says it looks fantastic to him, and will be getting one soon

Hi everyone. I did search the forum for Make of Samsung phones but the ones I could find were the V/S or differences etc between Made in Korea/Made in China.
I have read (here and on other forums too) some people praising Made in Vietnam Samsung phones and some bashing it with the color banding issues (and no other issue). Whereas couldn’t find much hate for Made in Korea. Although majority had Korean versions.
All I want to know is that which make out of the two is better, in terms of the one which doesn’t have many issues. I do understand that the company has strict policies and all factories have to adhere to it to make the products uniform. Having said that, but not to forget, Samsung has also mentioned that their Vietnam factory gets the least number of returned phones.
People who have owned and have experienced the two makes, please respond here.
I expect people who own neither of the two, not to respond, as bashing will do no good to anyone. Although positive criticism is always accepted.
Thanks.

I have tried the s-pen myself with 2 units. What I found was that you need to hold the s-pen in, say between 45-90 degree angles. If you hold it too low, say somewhere around 20-25 degree angle, the pen won't work properly. (As in it won't be accurate)

Hi,
1) I (we) don't really know, software or hardware issue... , I have not this issue personally (HTC black), maybe take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507 for more info...
Even after updated to Android 4.2.2, custom kernel, etc... I never had this pink tint...
2) No overheating here... It's clear that play an heavy game while charging and yes your One will overheated..., ambient temperature plays its role, overclocking too...
Browsing in 3/4g in sun or while charging is the same thing (even without sun/charging LOL, same thing for all phone with a beast of CPU), quadcore at 1.72 Ghz, simple... It inevitably heats but ther is a different between heat and overheat.
There is a difference between the "overheating" you feel and the real temperature of both CPU/battery checked by an app. Without any real temperature report the overheating is subjective... With stock or custom kernel I never had temperature issues.
In any case there are some overheating protection (thermal throttling) and with a custom kernel that allows some thermal settings, you can increase the thermal throttling so less heat... and even undercloked/undervolted and that can help a little...
Maybe I'm lucky and I speak, maybe, only for me, but I have no issues as above for my One (black HTC One from June)...
EDIT: ok it's not about the HTC One, but generally about overheating for a quadcore (S4). It's about the LG nexus 4 known for overheating:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372733
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2214629
Read all...
After all that it depends of your usage, the One is an awesome device (I came from a Galaxy SIII and I've always my Nexus 4), but depending of your use maybe there is better. I think about pictures... In lowh light the One is far better than a Galaxy SIV, but in "normal" use... Maybe not. It's like the screen, the "formfactor", the "overlay" (Sense vs Touchwiz), etc...
I think I've been around, at least for me

Browsing in 3/4g in sun or while charging is the same thing (even without sun/charging LOL, same thing for all phone with a beast of CPU), quadcore at 1.72 Ghz, simple... It inevitably heats but ther is a different between heat and overheat.
There is a difference between the "overheating" you feel and the real temperature of both CPU/battery checked by an app. Without any real temperature report the overheating is subjective... With stock or custom kernel I never had temperature issued.

After all that it depends of your usage, the One is an awesome device (I came from a Galaxy SIII and I've always my Nexus 4), but depending of your use maybe there is better. I think about pictures... In lowh light the One is far better than a Galaxy SIV, but in "normal" use... Maybe not. It's like the screen, the "formfactor", the "overlay" (Sense vs Touchwiz), etc...
I think I've been around, at least for me

I don't have any problems with my device.the camera is great for taking pics with it's wide angle lens. (You can get so much into a single pic) my phone had become hot sometimes when I was on 4.2 but since upgrading to sense 4.3 (leaked) I had not had any problems with heat whatsoever

I live in a very hot state in the U.S. and I browse while in the sun and listen to music as it does get hot no more than I suspect it would, in face less than expected. My sgs3 would get to 125° on the regular with the same situations, the HTC One got to 122° so far. No camera issues for me either. I say go for it, play with it for a while heavily in the conditions you're used to and make your final decision before having your 14 day (or whatever it may be for you) grace period gone.

Hey guys I'm about to buy an HTC One .. I'm a student and it took me a lot of time and hard work to get the money ... I need an honest advice from you guys plz
1. What's this problem with the Camera having a purple/pink tint ?? Is it a wide range problem ? A lot of users have it ? Or just some faulty devices ?
2. I heard that it overheats a lot .. is that true ? And if yes then when exactly does that happen ?? Games ? Or just excessive use ?
Thanks in advance to everybody who will answer .. much appreciated !!

I have no issue with the camera so can't comment on that.
The phone frequently feels warm in your hand and that's because of the aluminium body; this acts as the heatsink for the internals so the heat is transferred to the body which is actually a benefit you don't get on a plastic body. Although it can feel warm/hot in the hand a check of the temperatures will show it's well within safety limits. It can overheat doing things like gaming whilst charging or running a nav program whilst charging but in severe cases overheat protection will kick in to prevent damage.
I have a camera with purple tint issue and it is not because of heat.
Until now the issue is not resolved by HTC. Some users got a perfect camera when they bought it, but a few months later their camera became defective without any reason.
So, if camera is a main point for you, you better rethink again. Also don't forget to check after sales service in your country. In my country, it is terrible. Been waiting camara's part for almost 3 months, still no news.
You can also check purple tint thread in this forum for more info.
I have this phone for a couple of months now and I am satisfied with it but there are some things to consider.
1. The issue with the camera is difficult in a way that it is subjective, and it takes a little bit of trying to replicate. So there might be guys saying they don't have it because they simply haven't noticed it. However looking at the poll in the widely know post about that issue, clearly tells me it is a general thing, even taking into account guys that deny it. Our best bet now is that it is due to sensor overheating.
When I first saw that thread myself, I have tried what the guys were saying. Was covering the lens, was shooting dark photos and I came to conclusion that mine camera is fine, but it either grow on me or the sensor got damaged over time as now I can clearly see the issue.
2. I am using GPE rom on it and while it is very nice and all, now when I think about it - the phone is as good as the software on it. If I was living in the US and could buy Nexus 4 for that cheap I would definitely choose Nexus 4, and then with saved money update to another Google device. Here in Europe the difference in price between Nexus 4 and Htc One is not that big. That being said, if you are going to use GPE rom on it and value your money, Nexus 4 is a better option in my opinion.
However if you want better specs and want a device that will last you a little bit longer then Htc One is perfectly fine.
3. If you are not going to use GPE rom but the stock Sense one then I gotta tell you that it is very solid. It is so much better than TouchWiz that this is crazy.
4. The quality control at HTC seems to be low. If you want a perfect device with no gaps with no recessed buttons, with the display that is perfectly aligned with the rest of the body, prepare yourself that this might not happen on the first try.

Hi there,
It does "overheat" but still stays alive.
Also when u make over 500 pictures in a very short time (I did 5x 100 quick burst shot pictures) my phone heats up very much and I get that big purple dot. Goes away quick after cooling my phone down.
I also have not experienced any problems with my camera. I guess the ones that have a camera that's okay don't feel the need to comment on that thread, making it look like almost everyone has it.
And yes, it does get warm at times. It shouldn't get any hotter than, say, a Galaxy S4 (same processor, but slightly higher clocked), but it is possible that it's easier to feel because of the aluminium design. If you wouldn't feel the warmth, it'd mean all the warmth stays inside the device, which in turn is bad for the processor.

can you plz tell me where did you buy your phone from and when ?
Hey guys,
I started noticing bit of red tint on lower half of the screen.
I am aware viewing angle make difference, but no matter which orientation/angle I look from it is still there.
Anyone else having similar issue?
Also, if this is a defect, is this the kind that retailer usually replace for consumer?
It is giving me headache looking at the screen for a prolonged period even though the tint is not severe.

Its very, very slight on mine. Nothing that would make me consider returning it though.
Also, screen tint shift based on angle is a lot more frequent than my s3 (i9300). I tilt note4 by even 5deg and I see colour shift already, but nothing like that on s3.
Can someone confirm this please.
Thank you.

Yes, my phone does this. However I've checked a lot of shop display units and have noticed many are better and some are worse than mine. The sad fact is that there seems to be a bit of a screen lottery going on and it's luck whether you get a good screen or a bad one.

So you reckon retail wouldnt replace it.

You can try it. If they have a display unit that is obviously better than your current one and they can see that. Problem is you might end up with a replacement that is just as bad or worse!

Thats been the case since the Galaxy Note 2, even my note 3 has a slight reddish tint on the top part of the screen.. most if not all the units ive seen either has a red tint or a more warmer color tone at a certain part of the screen. People have accepted this as a norm.

Yeah funny it is a norm for Note series when it is not for S series when both using same display technology

Agree. My old s5 was much better with colour shift and tinting. As are the new tab s tablets. I'm disappointed with the note 4 screen.
Have you tried setting the display to photo mode?
I am still wondering if we talk about the same phone, my Note 4 has no red tint and no color shift at all, no matter how much I turn the phone.
Also looking at a totally white/red/yellow picture, I can't find any part of the screen that is warmer. Some people also reported that greys look terrible, I can't comfirm that for my display.
Coming from the Nexus 5, this display looks so much better in all aspects, I am still stunned after using the phone for 3 days now.
There seems to be quite a disparity between phones. Some are good, some are bad. That tends to be why people are having different experiences.

It was the norm for the S series up until the S4 came out. The S4 was the first Samsung screen since the Note 2 that had a very nice and even screen.
S1, S2, S3, Note 1, Note 3 all suffer from poor screen uniformity. Guess you can add the Note 4 to that too.
This worries me as I'm planning on skipping the Note 4 for the Nexus 6. Samsung will already be giving Motorola last years Amoled tech, and stretched across the bigger screen the unevenness will be even more obvious.
Especially now that Android Lollipop will be mostly light grey everywhere! Amoled's worst nightmare.
red tint?
What red tint, is this when the screen is on? off? I haven't noticed any red tint but now I'm worried...

Wow, if you do not notice it - do not find a reason to notice it. Be happy with your device.
My display is a very slightly more blueish/pinkish towards the top half, specifically the top right. It's only noticeable on white content. It's subtle enough that I won't go through the hassle of getting a replacement especially since the replacement could be even worse... At least my display has been brightness and no banding or anything. Overall though, this display is simply phenomenal. Hopefully these slight display issues will improve as time goes on, although the screen on my S4 was very uniform, doesn't even come close to the performance of the Note 4 screen though.
Seems like the problems are much less pronounced that the typical uneven backlight of LCD?

Yeah trust me, you will end up paranoid and find a reason to dislike your phone (even if you never noticed the problem in the first place). Like they say, ignorance is bliss! Enjoy the phone.
