Optimus touchscreen not as good as apple? - LG Optimus 2x

I've noticed when scrolling down pages etc that occasionally the touchscreen seems to miss a spot, like it's not sensing any movement in that particular area of the screen, a "deadspot" if you will..
has anyone else noticed a similar occurance? On my Iphone 3GS I noticed no such issues.
The basic concept behind a capacitive screen is that it has a grid dot array, and senses current change between any multiple "nodes" and then registers your input accordingly. If you look at your screen under the sun you will see this grid dot array, with many tens of dots splattered around the screen..
However, I noticed my old iPhone 3GS had a LOT more of these dots on the screen. I'm wondering if it's just my screen protector interfering with touch motions, or if its the fact that the grid array isn't comprehensive enough.
TL;DR
Does anyone notice dead spots on the touchscreen of their Optimus 2X?
Also, I notice I need to aim slightly above my intended target when pressing links and such, does anyone else have this issue?
Thanks.

No deadspots that I can register, potential culprit could be the kernel you are using.
As for the aiming slightly above issue, I agree with you, if I use my thumb I really aim a bit higher, but if I touch with my pointer finger, it is dead on
I cannot compare this touchscreen to iphone because I've never owned one, but responsiveness and precision is as good as on Galaxy S which my brother currently has

I have noticed no deadspots or lags (despite of some leaked roms with this particular known issue..)
Compared to my friend's Iphone 4, noticed no difference..

Iphone4 displays are LG displays..so apart from the resolution, everything is same..!!

Apart from the resolution, the screen, the digitizer and the screen size? That would seem very different to me.

Well its a 3.5inch in an iphone so yeah the size is def different..
Do i have to spell that out as well :-\

Lol. Anyway it seems the issue isn't the screen but rather just some apps seem to have this dead spot.

Can't it be checked if its a hw or sw issue by just flashing ur Rom n in case the prob persists flash ur regions stock Rom ,unroot n go to service centre :-\

It smells like a hardware problem. I never had it and I never heard anyone have it. Send it to service.
Actually our touch its pretty good. 10 points of multitouch.
What I remember is that with gr1 rom from modaco if i recall correct some raws on the right side were dead so you couldnt hit "p" easy but that was roms problem. CM or stock are fine.

I think you got a bad apple (no pun intended)... I upgraded from iphone 3gs/Xperia x10 to optimus, had the three of them side by side for some time, and the o2x's screen responsiveness is, at very least, on par to iphone 3gs. X10 with wolfbreak's rom was a little bit less responsive, but no compaints about optimus 2x. A dead spot issue looks like a hardware fault.
And sorry for my bad english...

Youre lucky, my friend dropped it from 2 feet and it smashed to bits

Apple invests a huge amount of money in marketing, because they are supposedly the best in every activity they are involved, which of course is nonsense!

Yeah, I meant the display felt less responsive/precise, not considering the dual/multitouch capabitities, bcos wasn't the focus of the discussion...

What ROM are you using? Maybe you're running some bad kernel with the touch-bug? For example Pauls r23 have it. Try neoblaze. Or if your running a stock rom, what version is it? I think there is one stock with the bug also, not sure.

No touchscreen unresponsiveness here

My touchscreen is as good as apples too. It's very responsive!
Every person saying it's not as good as apple have a bad firmware or a hardware problem, I think.

Still, google did say that the tablets are still 'under testing' and should be getting a few more updates before released to us. Hopefully one of those will fix it
I'd be interested to know if any of the members here have encountered this issue?

Edit: Corroboration and comments. Are any of you seeing it in daily use? Etc.
Probably just from the bad batch

Ha. This figures. I have a Prime and have had numerous display problem, along with many other Prime owners. Take a look in the Prime forums if you're interested. Asus uses crappy displays.
I'm sure if this was a big problem there would have been a lot more complaints by now.
Mine doesn't seem to have this issue, it does have a slight flicker though, but I'm hoping that will get sorted out with a newer build.

Did you test that image?
Well, I have to say I have never taken my prime, set the screen to max bright, left and image static on it for "several minutes" and then checked.
Seems like an odd thing to do in day to day use.
my prime display operates & looks fine. way too early to associate this with prime issues. I hope this nexus forum doesn't get influenced by negative assumption driven mentality and the consumer version of Nexus 7 isn't even released yet.
way to soon to jump the gun on a reported issue. I see I may need to create Positive Nexus 7 thread also...lmfao
lets not become divided in this forum like prime one. it was the ones whose primes worked fine vs. those with issues. SMH. it got ugly in there, especially in the beginning. I thought I would be escaping the madness by this being a Nexus driven forum/device.
This is NOT a problem, ghosting is a common occurrence for all IPS displays. Just a quirk they have, don't leave the display on full brightness on a static image for 5min and you will be fine.
Hi,
my Nexus 7 has this problem.
I don't think it's a common "ghost IPS problem", because I get it also if I leave the tablet for 5 minuts in stand by (so screen off). When I power it on the screen is white and it takes about 1 minute to get normal.
The Ars Technica review suggests that the ghosting issue gets better over time. Fingers crossed.

My G2x has an IPS display and doesn't ghost. This does however remind me of people going Max brightness in a dark room to test for "screen leak" and complaining when they find it under such drastic conditions. Yes, the article above does say even under automatic brightness but the fact that they tested with Max brightness made me chuckle.
I don't know... just not really worried about it. If it seriously ghosts really bad I'll return it, and if it doesn't I'll keep it.
Definitely jumping the gun on this one. No one has even seen a production model afaik, so just chill until you actually get yours.
Thanks OP for bringing the issue to our attention though.

My Prime had serious screen bleeding in a dark room, no wonder what the brightness was, so dont write off all the people who experienced screen bleed..That being said, and like others have mentioned, it is way too early to lump the nexus7 in with the TFP...although I did have my reservations about the nexus7 because of Asus's track record with tablets

got my 16G Nexus 7 last night and experienced the exact same problem as yours, the washout took more than 5 mins to disappear
Ghosting, washout, flicker
I got my 16GB yesterday and have all three problems. After I close Chrome, for example, I can still see (faintly, but legibly) my tabs, the URL bar, the URL even, etc.
I have a slight flickering problem.
I definitely have a washout problem - and it changes, too. Sometimes it's severe, sometimes not so bad.
I'm going to give it another day or two and if it hasn't resolved itself I will probably return it for another one.

[Q] Optimus 4x HD vs One X. Any hardware defects?

Hello fellow XDA users,
I know there are a lot of threads about asking if someone should choose a 4x HD. My question is though, does the 4x HD have any factory defects that you guys have come across?
I have a One X currently and I just got it back from a repair centre for fixing the wifi problem that has been a plague on the One X. Not to mention the other horror stories around the One X with faulty yellow screens, bad unibody allignment and the freaking camera that is sticking out the back scratching the whole lens on my One X.
I know the cons and pros about each phone, but I am just worried that my phone will get more defects. Should I wait for the Jelly Bean update for the 4x HD with the unlocked bootloader (love flashing ) or wait it out for a new phone?

I myself don't have any real defects and think the phone is great.
But issues that exist and I read about are:
- Dust under the screen/glass
- Broken SIM card reader/modem
- Constantly rebooting phones
- Screens with visible brighter lines/'space' in between the pixel rows (more background light getting through the rows of pixels)
But those are really a few phones here on the forum. Most of them just work flawlessly.
I've just seen the 4x HD in the store and I must say that it is a damn nice phone. I like the chrome edges and feels just a bit better in the hand. And I like the colors on the screen. It's nice that there aren't that many defects.

Yeah, compared to my sister her S3 the P880 does feel better in my hands. The back cover also adds grip.
It has a LCD panel, so no screen burn-in. Brightness is so great I have to set it on 25% to not torture my eyes xD
And for it's price it's a 'bang for the buck'. The S3 is more expensive for about the same specs.
There do are some things to consider where an S3 or HTC is doing it better:
- The LG 8MP camera isn't that great (more than good enough for me though)
- The home button is a soft touch key, while typing I often touch it accidentally
- The phone does get pretty hot
- Battery life seems to be not so great compared to a S3, but I can do 1 day with ease and 2 days at most on one charge
- Speaker sucks
- Audio quality is very good, but not the best out there, though for me it's better than I expected
- Firmware misses some basic functions like: default video calling (you have to use third party apps like Skype), no USB OTG, HDMI over the USB port, ...
Camera and heat is my only problem. The camera is really bad on indoor shots...

Well it sounds like the phone is the one I am after. The design is just beautiful, the One X is nice too but the design is just not my taste. And I don't really care about the camera quality. Plus side is it is in the case itself, unlike the One X which is outside of the case damaging the glass.
I think I've set my decision on selling my One X and get 4 x's .

What can you tell me about the xperia z

Hi guys. Have gone back quite a few threads in here so apologies if this has already been asked.
I am coming up to the magic upgrade date and am very keen on the xperia z. I have been on xda for nearly 2 years now and know that this community is the dog's and you guys can help me out. I know it all comes down to personal preference, but seeing as you have had the phone for a few months now can anyone give me any comments, likes or dislikes or reviews on the phone? I am asking the same question in the HTC one page as torn between the two, but keen to mix it up with Sony for the next few years. Your help is much appreciated.
Peace out.

first tell us what do you want most out of your phone? battery life? esthetic? what do you do with your phone? movies? text? games alot?
I own the Z and I dont feel its a substantial upgrade from the S3, limiting battery life from a 7000mah battery kinda sucks too.
I assume you are using a HTC Incredible S, according to your signature.
If that's the case then my experience may reflect yours.
Previously i've a SE Xperia Arc S. It was incredibly fast coming from my old motorola milestone, the screen was better, had HD recording etc. However after the ICS came it became sooooooo slow and choppy, i couldn't stand even touching it. Luckily i had an unlocked bootloader, so i could install CM/AOKP. The major bottleneck of the phone was the low RAM. 512 MB onboard, 380 MB usable due to the Exmor sensor. The battery life was poor, so was the quality of the arc (plastic cover breaking, cracks, scratches on the display, chrome parts loosing their color etc.)
Finally, after 2 years i replaced it with an unbranded xperia z. Oh god, where should i begin? The look and feel of the phone are outstanding. The build quality is top notch (it fell off a table 3 times, surviving without a single scratch). The display is incredible, very very crisp, natural colors and good brightness. If you are used to oversatured colors then you might dislike this one. Perfect perfomance in my opinion (coming from a single core 1,4ghz cpu ), rarely any hiccups or slowdowns. Sure the HTC One might have a snapdragon 600, but whats the increase on paper? 15%? You wouldn't even notice the difference in everyday use tbh. The development is also really fast. I think the first working CM10.1 was out before the phone was actually released.
Anyway, i'm in love with this phone, and if i had the chance to exchange it with a different one, i probably wouldn't do it.
I personally have a xperia z love it battery life is good screen excellent as I had a Samsung galaxy note 2 and traded up to the xperia z. I send text make calls listen to music I use the sat nav software very quick phone can't fault it even with stock rom.

Good point! I don't have the time to play games on it and when I do I'm straight on the xbox. The look and build quality of the phone is important to me that is why I have never gone for an xperia in the past and not considering the GSIIII. Camera and video is important as I have 2 kids... for my sins, as is battery life and speed of the phone. This will be my first quad core. Support is also important. My ICS is rooted and flashed so I may do this with the new phone. For all these reasons I'm looking at the Sony.

If you are not a photographer or dont have photographer eyes the video and photo are "good" (low light is bad) battery life- will you be around wifi alot? if not then my typical usage is 13 hours standby and 2.5 hours screen on no wifi. speed is good no lag with NOVA launcher slight lag on xperia launcher if you have alot of widget like me. support? like dev? not alot lol...I think you should go with S4. Well I traded my S4 for the Xperia Z and I am not looking. Back. I mean I do not like that I can't change the battery but that's about it battery life on this device seems far superior to everything I used yet. I also didn't like that the xperia has software buttons and take away a good amount of realestate from the screen but there is hack that makes it possible to get the whole screen back. I am personally using this hack. Now I have really 5 inches of beauty. Anyhow besides that the experia z is a great phone. By the way it wasn't a one on one trade. The S4 I got 550 for and bought the xperia z for 300 so I got a better looking better battery somewhat worse camera and 250 on top for pretty much the same thing plus u still can use the normal mhl plug in and don't have to buy the special Samsung S3 S4 mhl version. I like that. So to sum it up. Besides the non removable battery and the not as good camera I think the xperia z is a even match to the S4 in some stuff even superior to the S4.

The main issue with Samsung phones is that the screen always burns in after a while and that it has when u have a black background those visible black spots on the whole screen they look like black drops and also it has a very bad black pixelation when watching movies with a lot of dark in it. That's just the amolad screen tech. Not that good when it comes to burn in and black.

I own the S3 for a year (since it release), this never happen before, are we talking over a 5 years time span? who own a phone for that long? this isnt a TV. The black is very very nice black Samsung did alot of study with this IMO, they know the consumer love saturated picture and thats what they incorporated, for photographer this is a nightmare because we stick to "true color". In the end, they are doing this to make money, I guarantee you they make more money with their AMOLED screen then Sony with their true color TFT screen. Also people complaining aobut the weight of the S3, isnt weight was a big deal for a phone in recent years? the fact that they make the phone plastic, so its as light as possible just doesnt satisfy some people. if you want a device that is not plasticly then you gotta have an aluminum body which create more weight. I dont think Samsung did it to be cheap, just what the masses want. A phone that is bigger than the iphone and yet weight less (or the same) is a win in my book.
Just have a black picture or a black background and u gonna see some black bleeding issues. I had this with all Samsung phones and there r a lot of postings and also videos about those black clipping issues on amoload screens. It is a known issue.

Here's why the Nexus 4's touch still doesn't feel like the Galaxy or iPhone

In the recent 4.3 update, the Nexus 4's touch screen was revamped, and obtained much increased responsiveness. The same responsiveness you get on a Galaxy or iPhone device. But something still didn't feel right to me, it wasn't AS responsive (on the home screens) to me as a Galaxy Note 2, or an iPhone.
It's because when you swipe, there's this initial, miniscule, 2-3mm delay before it chooses to swipe. Similar to that 1cm pinch-to-zoom delay, which I believe is a feature to prevent accidental scrolling. Try it yourself: Swipe your finger for around 2-3mm, and you will note nothing happening. I think that swipe delay is also a "feature" to let your finger move a little when holding the home screen for the menu to pop up, so I believe it can be fixed, because the touch software otherwise should be on par with other devices. LG/Google should get rid of these delays altogether to be honest, the majority doesn't prefer them anyway.
I feel it's more like the dead zone has been increased, I don't like it what ever it is.
Gone back to the 015 driver from initial 4.2 pre release.
I don't mind nor really notice it.

In the recent 4.3 update, the Nexus 4's touch screen was revamped, and obtained much increased responsiveness. The same responsiveness you get on a Galaxy or iPhone device.

I really couldn't see the difference from the previous version. The "dead zones" feel exactly the same as they were before. Good thing it's barely noticeable and not too annoying unless you're paying attention to it.
Yea but is there anyway to reach out to them so they can just take out this delay? It'll become Galaxy-like smooth..everybody wants that. No one cares really about their featured 'delay'
I'd rather my phone not pick up a touch that I didn't want it to than have to deliberately touch something twice. Just my 2¢

hope some dev work on it a fix it..
My sister has an iPhone 5 and I had an S2 and personally I haven't noticed any difference between them now that I'm on 4.3.

Nitpicking a near perfecting device won't get you any closer to "winning"

I hadn't noticed this, and tested your 2-3mm claim on a stock, rooted 4.3 using the stock launcher with a widget on the homescreen... I still don't notice it! While there is a certain 'delay', 2-3mm seems vastly overstated. Having used galaxy s4, HTC one and iPhone 5 I see little discernible difference, and I'd be very surprised if they all do not feature some kind of touch recognition delay.

+1. I haven't updated yet, but if this resolves the issue of accidentally selecting an item rather than swiping, then I am 100% all for it.
I never understood those problems people had with touch on the Nexus 4 apart from the pinch delay. Thats the only difference I notice from my brothers S3

Nexus 4 feels just fine in my opinion. Don't notice any delays.

i'm wondering there are so many top dev working on this device but no one can't (or don't want) solve toch and pinch zoom problem..

I loaded CM 10.2 and don't see any issues so far.
It's difficult to notice any delay when you're used to something that has it. For example, my friend's TV has a lot of TV lag when used for gaming. If I hit A for jump in the game, I will have to wait about 100ms for it to show up on the screen. My TV, however, does not have lag as bad as this. Mines is about 30ms so for FPSs it is much more responsive. He doesn't notice this because his screen is already slow but when I play on his TV I notice a substantial amount of lag. When he plays on my TV he doesn't notice that it is very much faster. This is because it is harder to notice that something is slow when you're used to it.
This is a similar to phone responsiveness. My ipod touch 4th gen (which I had before my Galaxy s2 and NEX4) probably has a very slow processor but the software/hardware is optimized so there is no touch lag. Even with my nexus 4's beast quadcore processor, the touch performance is still better on my two year old ipod. I notice this because I have come from a faster device and I can notice the lag. You guys who haven't gotten used to more responsive devices may not notice the difference, but I and many others do. It's not just us being nitpicky, touch response if a very integral part of a TOUCH screen. I find myself having more difficulty typing on my nexus 4 because the sensitivity is just not high enough. I can type at a much faster pace on my ipod touch because the touch sensitivity is a lot better. In this regard, sensitivity makes a substantial difference in the user experience. I have had many mistaps and retaps on my nexus 4 when my taps did not register properly and I had to hit the same button over and over again. Swipes and other things are also slower than on my itouch.
If you play fruit ninja, for example, when you drag your finger on the screen you can see the cutting line trail behind on the nexus 4. On my itouch, however, the cutting line remains right below my finger and I cannot see the tip. This is the 2-3mm the OP is talking about.
just thought I'd share my opinion.
I sure hope it wont! Because I feel the touch responsiveness and accuracy on any 4/4s/5 iphone device is really through the floor.
Dont really feel any difference on the s3 compared to the new nexus 4 though.
I've noticed this delay too. Is there a kernel that allows you to adjust touch sensitivity for 4.3?
i've no problem with this delay.. my issue is pinch zoom problem.. i have to pinch at least 2 times to zoom enough..
it's software issue.. 'cause Mozzila Firefox doesn't have this problem..
It's not a "problem" or something that can be easily "noticed". The thing is, it's there. I can just feel that the Galaxy Note 2/S3/S4's swiping between home screens is instantaneous with the finger, just as the iPhone's is. The Nexus 4, is right up there, but I can see just that initial delay. It doesn't seem like the touchscreen doesn't recognize your finger, but more of a software "feature" where it won't recognize it on purpose.

HTC One Camera and overheating questions

Hey guys I'm about to buy an HTC One .. I'm a student and it took me a lot of time and hard work to get the money ... I need an honest advice from you guys plz
1. What's this problem with the Camera having a purple/pink tint ?? Is it a wide range problem ? A lot of users have it ? Or just some faulty devices ?
2. I heard that it overheats a lot .. is that true ? And if yes then when exactly does that happen ?? Games ? Or just excessive use ?
Thanks in advance to everybody who will answer .. much appreciated !!

I don't have any problems with my device.the camera is great for taking pics with it's wide angle lens. (You can get so much into a single pic) my phone had become hot sometimes when I was on 4.2 but since upgrading to sense 4.3 (leaked) I had not had any problems with heat whatsoever

Hi,
1) I (we) don't really know, software or hardware issue... , I have not this issue personally (HTC black), maybe take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507 for more info...
Even after updated to Android 4.2.2, custom kernel, etc... I never had this pink tint...
2) No overheating here... It's clear that play an heavy game while charging and yes your One will overheated..., ambient temperature plays its role, overclocking too...
Browsing in 3/4g in sun or while charging is the same thing (even without sun/charging LOL, same thing for all phone with a beast of CPU), quadcore at 1.72 Ghz, simple... It inevitably heats but ther is a different between heat and overheat.
There is a difference between the "overheating" you feel and the real temperature of both CPU/battery checked by an app. Without any real temperature report the overheating is subjective... With stock or custom kernel I never had temperature issues.
In any case there are some overheating protection (thermal throttling) and with a custom kernel that allows some thermal settings, you can increase the thermal throttling so less heat... and even undercloked/undervolted and that can help a little...
Maybe I'm lucky and I speak, maybe, only for me, but I have no issues as above for my One (black HTC One from June)...
EDIT: ok it's not about the HTC One, but generally about overheating for a quadcore (S4). It's about the LG nexus 4 known for overheating:

After all that it depends of your usage, the One is an awesome device (I came from a Galaxy SIII and I've always my Nexus 4), but depending of your use maybe there is better. I think about pictures... In lowh light the One is far better than a Galaxy SIV, but in "normal" use... Maybe not. It's like the screen, the "formfactor", the "overlay" (Sense vs Touchwiz), etc...
I think I've been around, at least for me

I live in a very hot state in the U.S. and I browse while in the sun and listen to music as it does get hot no more than I suspect it would, in face less than expected. My sgs3 would get to 125° on the regular with the same situations, the HTC One got to 122° so far. No camera issues for me either. I say go for it, play with it for a while heavily in the conditions you're used to and make your final decision before having your 14 day (or whatever it may be for you) grace period gone.

I have no issue with the camera so can't comment on that.
The phone frequently feels warm in your hand and that's because of the aluminium body; this acts as the heatsink for the internals so the heat is transferred to the body which is actually a benefit you don't get on a plastic body. Although it can feel warm/hot in the hand a check of the temperatures will show it's well within safety limits. It can overheat doing things like gaming whilst charging or running a nav program whilst charging but in severe cases overheat protection will kick in to prevent damage.
I have a camera with purple tint issue and it is not because of heat.
Until now the issue is not resolved by HTC. Some users got a perfect camera when they bought it, but a few months later their camera became defective without any reason.
So, if camera is a main point for you, you better rethink again. Also don't forget to check after sales service in your country. In my country, it is terrible. Been waiting camara's part for almost 3 months, still no news.
You can also check purple tint thread in this forum for more info.
I have this phone for a couple of months now and I am satisfied with it but there are some things to consider.
1. The issue with the camera is difficult in a way that it is subjective, and it takes a little bit of trying to replicate. So there might be guys saying they don't have it because they simply haven't noticed it. However looking at the poll in the widely know post about that issue, clearly tells me it is a general thing, even taking into account guys that deny it. Our best bet now is that it is due to sensor overheating.
When I first saw that thread myself, I have tried what the guys were saying. Was covering the lens, was shooting dark photos and I came to conclusion that mine camera is fine, but it either grow on me or the sensor got damaged over time as now I can clearly see the issue.
2. I am using GPE rom on it and while it is very nice and all, now when I think about it - the phone is as good as the software on it. If I was living in the US and could buy Nexus 4 for that cheap I would definitely choose Nexus 4, and then with saved money update to another Google device. Here in Europe the difference in price between Nexus 4 and Htc One is not that big. That being said, if you are going to use GPE rom on it and value your money, Nexus 4 is a better option in my opinion.
However if you want better specs and want a device that will last you a little bit longer then Htc One is perfectly fine.
3. If you are not going to use GPE rom but the stock Sense one then I gotta tell you that it is very solid. It is so much better than TouchWiz that this is crazy.
4. The quality control at HTC seems to be low. If you want a perfect device with no gaps with no recessed buttons, with the display that is perfectly aligned with the rest of the body, prepare yourself that this might not happen on the first try.

Hi there,
It does "overheat" but still stays alive.
Also when u make over 500 pictures in a very short time (I did 5x 100 quick burst shot pictures) my phone heats up very much and I get that big purple dot. Goes away quick after cooling my phone down.
I also have not experienced any problems with my camera. I guess the ones that have a camera that's okay don't feel the need to comment on that thread, making it look like almost everyone has it.
And yes, it does get warm at times. It shouldn't get any hotter than, say, a Galaxy S4 (same processor, but slightly higher clocked), but it is possible that it's easier to feel because of the aluminium design. If you wouldn't feel the warmth, it'd mean all the warmth stays inside the device, which in turn is bad for the processor.
