I am sorry to say but since u dont ve recovery u need a pc...
Yes you need a PC and software like odin/heimdall to flash some FW or at least anything containing a working CWM recovery. As soon as you get CWM recovery working you can go from there and flash to whatever you want.
can anyone recommend a rom to flash in the format for odin that contains cwm with the install

I recommend the good old 10.2 Darky Ressurection Edition, just follow the instructions in the OP:

My Tab is rooted and it says I have the correct recovery, yet I can't flash roms/backup current roms/get into Clockwork recovery. Everytime I try to flash something it gets aborted but before that it says Installing MICS failed or something similar. I'm familiar with flashing roms yet I don't know what's going on.

First, download ROM Manager and reflash clockwork mod.

I've done that a few times, still fails.

is you TAB GSM or CDMA? if you TAB is GSM you should use this tutorial . The Kernel it has already the CWM recovery, also will convert your system to Ext4 ..... Did you applied the patch from here . I believe you have a protected bootloader....
Thanks for the info. I'm not by a pc but it seems I don't need the secondary link, it seems I don't need the patch because it already is patched. And I have a gsm tab.

I just wanted to chime in to say that I'm having this problem too. I've rooted using the the proper steps and installed tom manager and downloaded the lastest cwm. I tell it to reboot and I get the aborted, signature cannot be verified blah blah.
I tried everything step over and over again and I always get that error so I cannot get into cwm.
Like the OP I have a t849 tmobile galaxy tab.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I figured it out
OK so this may sound stupid but when I first flashed the recovery rom using the adb push method for the recovery image and tmobile_zImage I did not have a micro-sd card because the SGT-849 has 16GB of built in memory. I just tried it again but this time I popped in a microsd and used adb to push the recovery flash files, ran recovery, rebooted, ran ROM Manager and told it to boot into recovery and ClockWorkRecovery Mod worked
So if you havent used the method if implementing an ADB bridge to push the tmobile flash files you need to do that WITH a microSD apparently.
My boot screen changed from the boring Samsung Logo to a Galaxy Tab + Samsung Logo. Which boot logo do you have?

I dont have knowledge in adb because I'm never on a pc, but I ordered a 32gb sd card so i'll see what happens.

flash any of the kernels based on ICS through recovery and then reboot recovery.. don't reboot the phone, just the recovery and then flash the ICS rom you want..
personally I am using semaphore kernel but there are others available like Glitch, Devil, Midnight etc..
what do you mean by reboot recovery... i just tried to flash the teamice but failed with an error (bad)
flashed a cyanogen nightly and up and running but cant import my contacts from my microsd card
would rather get teamice runing as i hear good things about it

in the CWM recovery there is an option to reboot recovery..
the cyanogen nightly you installed is CM7 or CM9?
was cm9. all fooked again now. tried to recover to stock that i had backed up but stuck on splash screen now and when i go to cwm i get a whole list of unable to locate **** come up.
plan now is go back to library tomorrow and reflash the stock GB rom i have and go prepared with an ics rom
so question is how do i avoid the (bad) error i got with the last time i tried and also had a fail with 2 lines quoting signing errors
cheers everyone
its a ball ache for me having no pc and having to go to local library

Have u checked whether signature verification type thing is on, I think you can change that just before you chose the zip from SD card, it should be one of the options, you reboot recovery by going to the advanced option and clicking reboot recovery.

The unable to locate **** is because ur from is on the wrong boot loader, that's how I understand it, the only way to fix that is to reflash stock gingerbread with boat loaders using odin, I used a android soul guide when I had that problem after doing the same thing as you. I don't know if xda has a guide but the android soul one was simple and easy to use, just Google how to flash gingerbread 2.3.3 GT-I9000 the android soil and u should get the guide, remember u want the one with bootloaders.

I was on cm9 latest build and wanted to try cm10 preview. so, I went into recovery to take backup with the latest 6.0.9 cwm but back up failed and later on I was on not able to see my sdcard and emmc in the recovery. when I tried booting the phone, it was infinately stuck on samsung boot logo.
I updated to stock firmware using pc odin and use repartition using pit file. odin update was completed successfully and the phone got past the samsung boot logo and after that its pretty much stuck on that and no home screen is loaded.
Can any one provide their inputs on how do I bring my note to life.

Yes, it was full stock including kernel (DDLP4 Indian version). it seems there is some problem in emmc. Through stock recovery also I am not able to see internal memory or sdcard.
Right direction for me was to go to service center and claim warranty and I did that.
Hi XDA im new there i was looking for this issue everywhere but doesnt seems like its somewhere
when i installed Jelly bean i had fully working device but i pressed lock button and there it started when i want to unlock it i have screen like this
dl.dropbox.com/u/55724162/DSC_0885(.DOT)JPG
I used 3 versions of CM 10 JB
Still same issues and my Recovery is CWM 6.0.0.8
Thx in advance
Cant use link but i think its important to see it so please be nice
What specific tab do you have?
Edit and what rom
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I have P7310
Tested these jelly beans:
cm-10-20121111-UNOFFICIAL-p5wifi
cm-10-20121025-UNOFFICIAL-p5wifi
cm-10.1-20121222-UNOFFICIAL-p5wifi
and in everyone i got this issue right after first attempt to unlock from sleep mode (via lockscreen)
same AOSP_14-01-2013_Beta-14 P5wifi
Well your picture doesn't look good, can't do much on it can you? Does it only do it on the cm10 roms? I'm not sure what to tell you but I'd try fixing permissions in your recovery.
What recovery are you using and how did you flash it. Factory reset, wipes, etc
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Bassicaly i did all wipes then instaled rom then Gapps and then rebooted
Like i said my recovery is this Clockwork_Recovery_6.0.0.8_GT-P7310_alternate
And if you flash the stock rom it doesn't do it. You might try that to rule out hardware issues
Edit: found someone else who had a similar problem. There is an issue with the boot loader. If you odin the stock rom and then flash the cm rom. That fixed it. You'll of course, have to reinstall your recovery and root.

Just tried one stock rom and it says
Finding update
Opening
Installing
Inslalation aborted
// I got that its ok to moment when i push lock/unlock button . When i had it on Charger i saw the battery ok but after i pressed lock it goes scattered/distorded like i show u picture. I really dunno what this is but im going via backup back to my gingerbread *SADNESS*
Where did you get the stock rom? Go to sammobile.com for it. You have to register, but it's free you'll download a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file from it. Use that in Odin, PDA.

I have this problem with my P1000.
I did a restore from a backup with TWRP but on startup hangs on SAMSUNG logo.
The same backup I had restored a few days ago without any problems.
I tried to make the restock with Heimdall but continues to hang on Samsung logo.
I can only start it in download mode.
How can I fix?

Couldn't you just flash a stock rom from samsung from download mode?
Use odin of course.

I tried reinstalling the stock rom with odin, same problem, stuck on the Samsung logo.
I used the stock rom GB.
What was your initial problem that makes you want to restore?
Something that is due to application won't install or data that don't go away?
Maybe you have a broken NAND.

I had no particular problems, I had installed the rom OmniRom 0703 but I wanted go back to 0626 because I was working better.
My fear is that it is a broken NAND.
Is yours P1 or P1L/N ?

I think I once has similar thing. Restock has no error but didn't boot. I don't care though. I only need the restock step to get my repartitioning.
So I continue with odin, putting the cwm kernel (in my case overcome 4.0).
Then using it to flash the custom rom.

I tried to install the kernel overcome 4.0 after the restock but continues to remain stuck on the Samsung logo, even if I try to reboot into recovery.
I'm no longer even sure how much the battery is charged, is charged even if the indicator is stuck?
I have made several tests, always with the same result, stuck on the Samsung logo.
I tried installing different versions of the stock rom, the kernel Overcome 4, the kernel CM11.
I've used both Odin and Heimdall.
I also read how to install roms on the external SD but in all cases it is necessary to reboot into recovery mode which to me does not work.
Does anyone have any other ideas on how to solve my problem?
The boot loader can be damaged? Where can I find the original boot loader?
How can I check if they are damaged MoviNAND or OneNAND?
